I have chosen the Cleveland Clinic and I chose it mainly due to self-interest in the educational research and care they provide. Cleveland Clinic is one of the largest and most respected organizations in the country, with 10 regional hospitals and 18 full-service family health centers bringing in around 7.14 million patient visits yearly. Cleveland Clinic welcomed its first patients on February 28, 1921 and its mission was clear “Better care of the sick, investigation into their problems and further education of those who serve” (Cleveland Clinic, 2017). Their objective is to carry out the mission and foster the group practice of medicine by providing efficient access to affordable medical care, exceling in service and developing, applying, evaluating and sharing new technology. The founder’s vision was clear “Striving to be the worlds leader in patient experience, clinical outcomes, research and education” (Cleveland Clinic, 2017).
Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit multispecialty educational medical organization. It’s divisions of research and education institutes are among the largest graduates of medical education centers in the nation (Cleveland Clinic, 2017). The Cleveland Clinic has large and busy research and educational institutes. Lener Research Institute is Cleveland Clinics home to all laboratory-based and clinical research, providing more than 1,200 scientists and support personnel to uncover the mysteries of disease. Their wide range of medical research involves helping patients with anything from heart and bone disease to neurological disorders and more.
The founders believed these practices were the cornerstones of excellence in patient care. Clinical trials are performed to extend their research and find answers for different treatments on different conditions and diseases. In May of 2012 Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University combined education and research in an innovative program to create a medical school dedicated to teaching and mentoring physicians and scientists. Cleveland Clinic has been a medical innovator and the discoveries made there have saved a tremendous amount of patients and many of these innovations have become a standard practice in medicine.
Cleveland Clinic believes health care access is important and is committed to helping the communities by prioritizing the health and well being of their residents (Cleveland Clinic, 2017). They provide this by building Family Health and Service Centers to ensure better service and care delivery within primary care, specialty services and outpatient surgery. Doing this has allowed the organization the growth of improved medical services for patients receiving health care at outpatient centers within the local community.
