This work of BSHS 422 Week 3 Discussion Questions 
comprises: 
DQ1: Discuss some of the reasons for the over-representation 
of African American males in prison. 
DQ2: Discuss the issues related to the problems facing Native 
American youth who leave the reservation. In contrast, 
discuss the problems of Native Americans who choose not to 
leave the reservations. 
Health Care - General Health Care 
Assess your team’s cultural competence. Each team will 
select one cultural competence assessment tool to assess the 
level of cultural competency of yourself and your teammates. 
Search for an appropriate instrument in the UOP Online 
Library or on the web. (Use key words in search engines to 
find assessment. You may need to modify the assessment to 
fit individual persons as many are written to assess agencies ) 
. Each team member is to complete the assessment chosen 
by the team and evaluate their own cultural competence. 
Each team member will also submit their completed 
assessment for instructor review by Saturday of Week 3. ** 
Do not assess the agency a team member is employed by for 
this assessment. Agency cultural competence will be 
assessed in week 5 ** 
Prepare a 3-page (does not include title page or reference 
page) paper on your Learning Team’s cultural competency
based on the results of the assessment each team member 
completed . 
Include an evaluation of each team member’s assessment 
results based on your responses to the assessment taken 
(**Hint**You may summarize these results but please 
provide a few specific examples of responses that show your 
level of competence based on the assessment taken i.e. Sally 
appears to be culturally competent in xx based on her 
answers to the assessment when asked xxxx.). ** The paper 
should also contain specific recommendations regarding 
increasing or assuring greater cultural competence for each 
team member based on the areas of weakness identified in 
your assessment results. ** 
Format your paper according to APA standards and include a 
copy of the assessment used 
Register for classes as soon as you are able to. Sections fill up 
rather quickly, most on a first-come basis. Procrastinating 
may cause you to lose out on the classes you actually need to 
graduate. Work with your advisor to plan semesters ahead of 
time, at least loosely. This will make the registration process 
even simpler....
