Through Hanshin-Awaji (1995), we realized the importance of
information sharing.
In Japan, many prefectures already implement disaster
information sharing system using GIS.
However, in many cases it does not work well.

Through actual disaster response, we organized the
requirements of activity maps (knowledge) required by each
agency, which is generated from thematic maps (Information).
We developed an NIED disaster information utilization system
that satisfies requirements for generating activity maps.
We used the NIED system for disaster response in the
northern Kyushu heavy rain and confirmed its effect.
Future tasks
It is necessary to research the thematic map (information) and
activity maps (knowledge) requested by each institution more
widely, and advance the research and development of a
system that can be used autonomously.
