27. EXTREME UNICYCLING: HISTORY,
ORIGIN AND WHAT´S ABOUT.
This is an unusual sport that consists in ride a unicycle in places that are very dangerous to go
across or to stay there, like cliffs, rainforest, steep mountains… This sport of adventure is very
difficult because we don´t have two wheels like the bicycle, and we don´t have brakes and
handlebar neither, so we have to stay in equilibrium.
The unicycle was invented in 1869 by Frederick Myers (UK) when it was called single-wheeled
velocipedes, but the fist time that it was used was in the circus of the Italian Battista Scuri, in
1881. Its design has developed until its invention and there was different type of unicycle such
as the “giraffe”(it measure 1,5 or 2 m) or the seatless unicycle. In the 1980s, some people that
practises sport get interested in this object and they started to practice new sports like the
extreme unicycle, street unicycle, trials unicycle...
28. EXTREME UNICYCLING: TIPS TO TRAIN AND
MECHANISM. INFORMATION OF THE
COMPETITION
The unicycle is composed by two pedals, one thick wheel and a set of gears.
To learn who to use this object you just have to train five days(it depends in the age and in the
physical condition), there are a lot of methods, but the best is to try to stay in equilibrium fixing
your sight in a spot. You have to put your right foot in the right pedal and then the left, push
yourself and now you just have to stay calm and in equilibrium.
Riders compete in the UNICON and in the regional championships, here there are few
modalities of the unicycle riding, like the artistic, the track racing, marathon, muni… Each group
is composed by three riders and 1 support person. You have to start the race when the bell ring ,
if you start before you´re out of the competition. This competition occurs every two years.
31. origin of sport:
Boxing chess is a sport that combines the two modalities. It`s origin
, estimated, was in 1978, when boxer James Robinson, also a fan of the
chess sport, formed a Chess boxing club in London.
The following year, that discipline appeared in the Chinese kung-fu
movie "The Mystery of Chess boxing. " The club closed without fame or
glory.
In 1992, the Serbian comic cartoonist Enki Bilal, who knows if by his
own inspiration or based on the predecessor ideas, captured the
concept in the comic book "Frío ecuador". Many people consider Bilal
was the father of the idea. But if there is a great precursor, this is
the artist Iepe Rubingh, an amateur of both sports, who in 2003
decided to create the first world championship of chess boxing.
Rubingh was champion of the first edition and is currently the
president of the World Boxing Chess Organization (WCBO).
