2. What is Third Culture?
Third Culture refers to
individuals who spend the
majority of their childhood in
one or many cultures that
are not the same as their
parents.
John and Ruth Useem first
coined the term "Third Culture
Kid" or 'TCK' in the 1950s to
describe Americans living
abroad
3. This results in a new culture that does not
correlate with any single country
Because of this lack of "cultural identity"
Third Culture Kids form a brand new culture
relatable only to other Third Culture Kids
Individuals who experience different cultures
as a child no longer identify with their parents
culture
4. Okay that's pretty cool... but what's Multiculturalism?
Multiculturalism is the
representation of many cultures
in a single body. In other words,
when your daily life involves
aspects of multiple cultures
you're multicultural!
Some examples:
5. But being multicultural can
extend to a society as well as
an individual.
When a society includes many
cultures in it, we may describe
it as being diverse
6. Multiculturalism goes can be seen in many
aspects of our daily lives.
Many popular songs today such as
Despacito and Bailando heavily rely
on the themes and ideals of
Spanish speaking countries, yet

Multiculturalism and Third
Culture are not mutually
exclusive. You could have
two parents born in a
foreign country, but also be
influenced by multinational
aspects in your local society
