3. HOW ARE FIREWORKS
MADE?
There are three basic types of fireworks-
Firecrackers,sparklers and aerial fireworks.
1. Firecrackers consist ofa gun powderand a fuse
wrapped tightly.
6. 1. The fuel is charcoal and the binder is usually
sugar or starch.
2. The fuel and the binder are mixed with water
and poured into a container. A wire is dipped
into it.
3. When it dries, this is ready to light.
COMPONENTS OF A FIREWORK IS:
FUEL, BINDER AND WIRE
8. INVENTION OF FIREWORKS
• Invented during the 7th Century in China.
• Fireworks were made to scare away Chinese
demons.
9. WHEREARE THEY MOSTLYUSED?
• Celebration
• Christmas Eve
• Soccer matches
• Music events
• In movies
• Grand openings.
10. The colours that you see in the sky are determined
by metal salts that are deliberately added in very
small amounts to the stars when they are
manufactured.
11. As the stars burn the metal atoms absorb
energy, become excited and emits a specific
colour of light.
12. IMPACTS OF FIRWORKS ON THE
ENVIRONMENT
1) CHILD EXPLOITATION
Children employed in firecracker industry, sit
late into the night making crackers
13. • HARMFUL EFFECTS
i. Children burn their hands, legs and eyes.
ii. Many children get maimed for life because of
the harmful chemicals used to manufacture
crackers.
14. 2) AIR POLLUTION
A heavy smog hangs low in the air on the festival
night and a few days after that, resulting in the
increased levels of sulphur nitrates, magnesium,
nitrogen dioxide which are injurious to our
respiratory passage.
15. 3) NOISE POLLUTION
Bombs leads to noise pollution, and a
prolonged exposure to such high levels of noise
can lead to permanent damage of the
eardrums.
16. 4) GARBAGE
Approximately 4,000 additional metric tonnes of
garbage are released in Delhi alone, and twice the
amount in Mumbai.
It comprises of chemicals like phosphorus, sulphur
and potassium chlorate and tones of burnt paper.
18. 6)EFFECTS ON ANIMALS
Fireworks are also a problem for animals, both
domestic and wild.
They get terrified by their noise, leading to them
running away, often into danger, or hurting
themselves on fences or in other ways in an
attempt to escape.
19. The actual frequency range of animals is 67 Hz to 45 kHz,
which is 'unheard of' to the human ear's high range of 20
kHz.
Obviously, firecrackers of even lower decibels, then, can drive
the animals crazy.
20. In many areas people play the most inhuman game of
tying firecrackers on
dogs and donkeys' tails and letting them loose,
watching the fun while the
animals run around panic-stricken and ultimately
burn themselves
23. RULES FOR USING
FIREWORKS
1. Age limit should be 18 years to buy fireworks.
2. Buy sparklers with other fireworks in retail
fireworks packages.
3. Follow he manufacturers instructions or each type
of firework.
24. 4. Light in wide and open area away from
anything that could catch fire.
5. Keep all unlit fireworks in the bag until you are
ready to use them.
6. Dispose the firework which do not light for the
first time.
25. FOOD FOR THOUGHT
• Before youlight fireworks think about others.
• Fireworks are noisy- consider your neighbour’s.
• Fireworks produce garbage- keep the environment clean
and safe for the future.
