Techie 12 Research Paper
If fishing is your thing, but you want a paddle board that is a little smaller than the Dragonfly 13'6",
then the Techie 12' is a good choice. While previous paddle boards from Dragonfly could be used
for fishing, the Techie has been specifically designed for the hard–core angler. According to
Dragonfly, the purpose of the board is frill–free fishing, but this doesn't mean that they skimped on
features.
What makes the Techie special is the fact that it is hand–crafted using vinyl ester resin with bi–
directional fabric. It also has a 30–inch beam and beaded foam core. Dragonfly included two cubic
square feet of forward dry storage in the twelve–foot hull and a small circular well in the aft. The
forward storage is insulated and the aft well is compatible with an optional pump. Also on this board
you'll find three flush–mounted rail systems and how you customize it with camera mounts, rod
holders and other accessories is up to you. Also of note is the unique water shedding deck and ocean
grip padding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it has a removable fin system and drain plug. Don't let the light weight fool you as this
board is able to float about 320 pounds. Dragonfly Boatworks is known for the quality that goes into
their products and this can clearly be seen with the Techie 12'. If you are a fishing purist and want a
reliable paddle board that does everything you need it to do out on the water then don't miss out on

To Paint A Water Lily Essay
Mother Nature takes a deep breath, and she sighs a breeze. Her feet are planted solidly in the
ground, and her tap–root toes dig deep into soft soil. Her eyes are storms; but, behind the eyes, her
mind is a pond. Nature's mind has a visible surface, but also an entirely hidden world of the
unknown "water" of subliminal thought. In To Paint a Water Lily by Ted Hughes illustrates the
intricacies of a pond to depict an understanding that nature is complex than what is comprehensible.
Moreover, Hughes argues that in order to create an accurate portrait of one aspect of nature, such as
a water lily, one must understand its environment.
Hughes begins the poem by distinguishing the water and the sky, thus in the opening line the author
has already complicated nature's depiction. Water and sky become "two minds" of the same woman,
the pond. The personification of the environment sends a message immediately: this image is not a
landscape, but a portrait. Just as a well–made portrait captures the subject's personality through the

Sixteen lines of this poem are dedicated to describing creatures that "alight" the subject of the
painting, delicately perching for a brief second before humming away. If this much detail is required
to understand the water lily above the surface, then there must be something to say about the waters
below; however, it is through the exclusion of the details of the water that Hughes makes his most
powerful comment on nature. The water lily balances delicately between what is known about
nature, the "dragonfly" so to speak, and "whatever horror nudge her root," the uncertainty, the
unconsciousness, the yet to be

Memory E. B White Analysis
I believe E. B. White was successful in creating a piece about memory. The use of his descriptive
sentence structure throughout the piece transported the reader to that very lake in Maine he wrote of.
Furthermore I felt as if I was there watching it happen in front of me. He thoroughly described each
setting in such great detail that I recalled memories of my own with my father. We would go
camping and fishing on a lake in South Carolina much similar to the one E.B. White described.
These trips took place in the month of July when the heat was at its peak, mosquitoes abound,
crickets and frogs sang in unison, the smell of DEET smothered all over my body and the late
evening thunderstorms which brought wind, rain and lightning. These were some

Adapting to Survive
Adapting to Survive Animals live in all kinds of different places around the world ranging from
desert, rainforest, savannas, and tundra. Some of these areas aren't best fit for some animals to live
in, but they adapt, but what is adaption? Adaption is what helps the animals stay alive in the current
surrounding and situation. Animal's adaption can range from the shape of its mouth or beak, the
thickness of its fur, or even the color of the animal itself. For example camels have adapted to
survive by their camel hump, they use the hump as sustenance when there isn't any food around for
them. Camels evolved to develop their hump because they live in a desert where there is a lack of
food for them to eat. These adaptions didn't just come from camels though, adaptions may have
come from animals that are extinct. Some extinct animals may look somewhat familiar to the
animals we see today, that's because a lot of animal evolved from the same creature, but adapting to
different areas. An example would be that a rodents live in one place, and some separated to another.
Two of the same rodents now lived in different ecosystems, so they adapted to them differently than
the other. One rodent evolved into a tree habitat so it developed flaps so it could glide to other trees,
similar to a flying squirrel. The other rodent evolved with similar flaps, but the rodent was smaller
so it could hide from its prey easier in the bushes. Animals do not always change the way they look

Dragonfly Research Paper
Now that we have covered what exactly an arthropod is and why they (specifically the uniramians
class) are so successful, we can focus on one specific organism and look deeper into how they
evolved to be so successful in the environment they are in today. The organism that we are going to
be focusing on is the dragonfly. The dragonfly has been around for 300 million years and has
manage to stay alive and thrive in its environments. Back then an ancestor of dragonflies roamed the
planet, its name was Meganeura. Meganeura is a genus of extinct insects from approximately 300
million years ago, they are related to modern–day dragonflies. In this group one member known as
M. permiana was first described be researchers in Kansas in 1937 as having a wingspan of over 2
feet or 0.6 meters long. It is still considered one of the largest insects ever to be alive on this planet.
To better understand why prehistoric dragonflies were bigger than modern ones we must go back in
time to take a look at what potentially happened and how the dragonfly evolved into what it is today.

The wingless insects first appeared approximately 380 million years ago. The evolution of insects
happened in four stages but for the dragonfly it appears in the second stage so we will only be
looking into the first and second stages. The first stage is called the Apterygote stage, this term
broken down basically means "without wings." During this stage the simplest forms of insects were
developed. They had no wings, or developed leg/ body parts. They also did not go through
metamorphosis, instead they went through something known as ametabolous development.
Ametabolous development basically means that the immature closely resembles the adult except for
the presence of

Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily
The poem "How to Paint A Water Lily" by Ted Hughes is a beautiful piece of work. Just like a
painter would put very fine details with every stroke of the paintbrush, so does Hughes with each
stanza to build this beautiful poem. Although the poem's title makes the reader think the poem is
about a water lily it is really about the environment around it. Hughes uses personification to
describe the scene the speaker is witnessing in comparison of the water lily.
Ted Hughes used personification throughout the entire poem. Most of the personification in the
poem is based on the world around the flower instead of the actual flower. In the fourth stanza,
Hughes describes the eating habits of the dragonfly by saying,
"First observe the air's dragonfly That eats meat, that bullets by."
This means the dragonfly is eating insects that are flying by and is describing the flying insects as
"bullets". Another example of personification in the poem is in the thirteenth stanza. The thirteenth
stanza says,
"Which, deep in both worlds, can be still,
As a painting, trembling hardly at all."
In this stanza Hughes is describing the still sitting water lily in all of the chaos around it by saying
the flower is not "trembling" in the water as if nothing is happening at all.
Ted Hughes may not mention the flower many times in the poem but he does mention it at the
beginning and the end. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker starts to describe the leaves on the
bottom of the water lily.

Endangered Animals
Endangered Insects
The term "endangered" is used to describe a species that is at a serious risk of extinction. The
amount of species that are considered at risk is continuously increasing. Because of pollution and/or
global warming, multiple different species have become, and are becoming, endangered; thus also
causing issues in their environments. The purpose of this essay is to shed light on the current
situation of endangered insects. It will be focusing on bumblebees and Hine's emerald dragonflies in
particular.
As small as they seem, bees are a crucial factor in human life. This is because of the simple fact that
bees pollinate our plants. Bumblebees, in particular, pollinate from spring to late–fall. Many plants
cannot produce food without insect pollination, such tomatoes, cranberries, and peppers. The bee
population is extremely important because no bees means no food. Yet, within recent years, several
bee species have been officially added to the US endangered species list. Their decreased numbers
are due to multiple factors; such as climate change, pesticide use, and disease. "Bees are dying out at
the southern end of their range because of the rise of extreme heat waves."[1] For many other
species, as climate changes, they move. However, bumblebees are not doing the same. "Many North
American and European bumblebees are failing to track warming by colonizing new northern
habitats."[2] Thus, the bees are simply disappearing from southern areas. Besides climate

there are insufficient SEI strategies, the instructor uses a graphic organizer such as four corners,
which is excellent for ELLs, however it lacks differentiation instruction for the varied levels of
student learners in the classroom. The Levels for English Proficiency indicated from beginning to

This strategy is used to determine the student's knowledge and culture background as to what they
would see on a farm when going a field trip. "Anticipation guides stimulate students' interest in a

Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes
Ted hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water lily
painting looked like. In all of his works, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make the reader
understand it by using nature as the key. The task in this poem is presented by the title "How To
Paint A Water Lily". The reason he wrote this poem, was to describe nature by decorating the spirit
of the environment around the lily. The two literary techniques that will be discussed in this paper
are imagery and alliteration.
Ted Hughes is using his words to inform the painter in a way that describes everything else but the
lily. The painter is on a mission to create a painted depiction of a water lily in a pond. Ted Hughes is
very fond of nature as he mentions various aspects of nature to create many images in our minds.
However, the main aspect of the poem is surprisingly not the flower; it was the dragonfly. The
dragonfly appears for the second time in stanza 3. "First observe the air's dragonfly That eats meat,
that bullets by" . The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2–7 because of its role it plays on the
environment. The reader and the painter may wonder "What does the dragonfly have to do with the
water lily?" but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem.
The first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique
found in Ted Hughes' poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help readers visualize
the work better. While Ted is describing the environment around the lily, he describes the action of
the dragonflies as "Rainbow their arcs, spark, or settle." which makes you visualize the dragonflies
arching their backs as if they were about to fly full speed, seeing a spark happen from the light
reflecting off of their shiny wings. The part about "settle" is about how the dragonflies probably fly
away or land on the lily when they are done fighting. The details that were just described were not
stated in the poem, it's just what was visualized after reading these words. There are many other
examples of imagery in the poem. The first stanza says "A green level of lily leaves Roofs the pond's
chamber and paves The flies

Animal Tats Research Paper
There are lots of amazing types of body art for ladies, but animal tats are being among the most
popular. A lot of women feel a particular link with one animal. Sometimes people call this pet their
totem canine. This is somewhat of an misnomer just because a totem animal is similar to a family
group crest or a flag. Totems usually signify a family group or group you are an integral part of. For
your tattoo though, nearly all women want something that represents them; in the end, a tattoo
decorates your system.
Animal tattoos for ladies are personal. You might have a design idea all chosen predicated on your
sense to be attuned with one dog. If not you might examine these popular canine tats and what they
suggest usually.

Why Is Vegetarianism Wrong
Vegetarianism: Because Killing Plants is OK How could a seven year old possibly make a
difference? How could a seven year old possibly make a decision for herself? How could a seven
year old survive without enough protein? These were a few of many ignorant questions that
bombarded the ears of my proud parents. Throughout my young life, I always had a deep
appreciation and passion for living creatures. So much so, that ants, crawling along the sidewalk
would captivate my attention; snakes, slithering through the sludgy, green creek water would
fascinate me. Due to my intense love of animals, the thought of harming them deeply saddened me.
At the young age of seven years old, I became a self proclaimed tree–hugger, peace–lover and no
meat–eater whom by the way, did receive enough protein. As a young child, I became a vegetarian
due to one single, overwhelming reason: animals and I are the same. We breathe the same air, we
walk among the same ground, we have complex and very real feelings and we have families. I
realized this whilst spending an afternoon in my favorite creek–spot in my hometown. I watched
frogs, jump from rock to rock, crawfish scatter around the creek ... Show more content on

Becoming a vegetarian simply solidified what I already knew about myself and what i already
believed in, whilst also making a difference in the world. I knew that I cared deeply about all living
creatures and since I would never hurt them, I definitely did not want to support an industry that did.
The label, vegetarian, describes a human who does not consume animal meat. In my case, being a
vegetarian is much more than what I eat, or rather, don't eat. It is what I believe in. I believe that
animals are similar to humans in such a tremendous way, that harming an animal is equivalent to the
harm of a human. This belief, engraved in my core, leads my way as a religion would with some
people. It is the moral code in which I live

Another good way to gain knowledge about the dragonflies is through reading the book called "Are
you a Dragonfly?" by Judy Allen. Through reading the student can expand their vocabulary and a
better meaning of the words. By reading the book it not only helps them with their vocabulary word
but it also give them information about the dragonflies. The assessment method that I chose was to
ask the students questions about what they have learned about the dragonfly. I also feel that another
good way is the have them share what they have learned with their fellow classmates. Lastly
reviewing the chart that we did together as a class will also reinforce what they have learned and
will give the teacher an insight of what they have learned. We as teachers needs to make sure that we
include comprehensible input. This is important because it makes sure that the students complete the
assignment and understand what they have learned. In order to make sure that this is done we may
need to offer them the materials for this lesson in their native language that they can use in class and

The Lyrical Novel Border Town by Shen Congwen
A lyrical novel has unique features such that its words are directed to the reader, appealing to the
reader's emotions and feelings, while depicting a story which complements these emotions that is
induced upon the reader. The idea behind a lyrical novel can be said to be a contradiction–novels
focus on the explanation of the story plot, while lyrical novels are more about moral decisions, the
expression of themes and how the surroundings can be integrated to show the character's mood.
Hence, it can be said that it is the character's emotions that drives the development of the plot.
Shen Congwen's Border Town can indeed be considered to be such a lyrical novel. Border Town
was depicted to be a 'dreamlike' town, with its citizens enjoying peace generation after generation,
like the flowing water in the river next to the town. The white pagoda stands tall, unwavering,
symbolizing peacefulness and tranquillity. Border Town is widely considered to be a utopian–like
story, with an interesting love twist, where two men are after the affections of the lead character.
There are several features that resemble those of a lyrical novel. In the beginning of the story, a
passage depicts the peacefulness of the town by the use of the setting of the town, with objects that
are normally associated with beauty and serenity. Such was seen in, 'there were peach blossoms
there was sure to be a home, and walls of yellow earth and pitch–black tiles...in harmony with the

Descriptive Essay On A Rare Bird
A quiet bird. One that lived deep inside the forest. One that was barely seen when wanderers passed
the green and brown of the trees, and the underwood, the grass and the leaves. All they've seen was
the sunlight filtered through this army of leaves above their heads and in height of their eyes,
caressing their faces as they pass through a void of never–ending emerald. The tears of a bygone
night moistened their cheeks and they'd ignore the mourning. Footsteps sunk deep into the velvet
ground covered by moss. They sank so deep that the strollers were afraid of being locked into this
green hell forever. Dragonflies and other winged insects rose with the last remains of mist that told
the story of a lonely, rare bird. The strollers stopped walking ... Show more content on

containing biotic and abiotic factors, which aimed to sustain life without contact with the outside
world throughout a period of six weeks. For the procedure, the ecosystem was to be observed over
this time. The experiment began when a one–quart mason jar with its contents was sealed on

rationales behind them (italicized) included: ● Water from the middle pond filled to the 600 mL

One cycle that was visually observed was the water cycle. Shown in the "Amount of and

droplets, most of the time the condensation was much like a mist, having just evaporated and not yet
condensed. However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got bigger, they
would rain down in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated, as shown by the
graph. Another cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the carbon and oxygen
cycle. In order for the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was trapped in the jar,
producers supplied the animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae throughout the observation
period. In addition, since the algae survived and appeared to have grown, the organisms must have

The rusty bumblebee is named because of the rusty–colored marks on the backs. The rusty
bumblebee is the first wild bee to become endangered. The bee was commonly found in the midwest
and northern territory. They are key pollinators and help pollinate all the crops. If you find a
bumblebee just leave it alone, the bumblebees are not aggressive and their nest only last one year .

27 November 2014
Introduction
In this project, one looks at a successful social media campaign. The ALS ice bucket challenge is an
example of a successful campaign that brought millions in donations and thousands of participants.
Using the Dragonfly Effect, the campaign will be analyzed and then recommendations would be
uncovered.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was started by two people, former baseball player Pete Frates, and
Pete Quinn from Yonkers, New York. Both are afflicted with ALS. ALS stands for Amyotrophic
lateral sclerosis or better known as Lou Gehrig's disease (Friedman & Friedman, 2014). By July

In the bucket challenge, the use of celebrities and the related philanthropy of playing along with a
humorous event can induce others to do the same and also donate more. It is like enlisting a group of

since most people are not going to participate if it is difficult or dangerous.
One of the most important principles in the dragonfly effect is fun. The bucket challenge must be
fun if one wants to keep the involvement of the masses. Besides that, tailored acts that tap into
people's unique advantage can help spread the campaign. The audience must feel that the bucket

Urban Sprawl Analysis
Approaching an unknown frontier, I was suddenly surrounded by sprawling foliage and vast
forestry. In the midst of towering trees, I walked down a dirt path longing to find my individuality.
The rustling of leaves warned predators of my oncoming approach. I reached the swampland, filled
with new layers of fresh algae and marsh. The surface does not budge like a Venus flytrap, mouth
open waiting for its next victim. However, the most interesting thought is the peace and quietness
that is so long forgotten in today's urban sprawl of the twenty first century. With the constant rushing
of one place to another, one forgets the elegance that comes with the solitude of being in one's own
company. The buzzing of dragonflies and mosquitoes awoke me ... Show more content on

I scan the timber and bog for new signs of life like a curious birdwatcher wading through the depths
of the Amazon. My curiosity is suddenly sparked by a cluster of dragonflies. They are just a speck in
the universe, yet so important. Following the ideologies of Thoreau, one must look at an object
indirectly or through one's peripheral vision to fully understand and contextualize the presence of its
being. The dragonflies glide through the air like a flying squirrel prancing from tree to tree. With an
unmistakable arrogance, they strive to fulfil their symbiotic role in nature and play their part in an
unforgiving environment. Like many of us who are constantly striving to find ourself in today's
world, the dragonfly plays an important role. With eyesight as good as as a ravaging eagle hunting
for its prey, a dragonfly's carnivorous appetite rids the environment of mosquitoes as well as aphids,
a type of tiny insect that destroys crops. This insect, which may seem negligible to some, greatly
impacts our daily lives in more ways than some can even envision. This relationship sets off a
complex domino effect and you never know which side you will end up on. Nor will you realize that
the individual impact you will have on others depends on the decisions you make throughout your

Dragonfly Population
It is important to consider what certain species contributes to an ecosystem before assigning a
monetary value to it. Everything from insects to large animals holds immense value in their own
unique ways. It might be easier to put monetary value on animals such as grizzly bears or bald
eagles because people will not only pay for their protection, but they also go to national parks to
view them (which brings in billions of dollars each year.) Insects that pollinate are also easily seen
as valuable because they help crops grow and crops are crucial to many economies. A dragonfly
population may be more difficult to assign monetary value to. They have a myriad of uses. Though
they do not pollinate, they help ecosystems by eating mosquitoes

The Monkey 's Head Of The King
The dragonflies roared around the monkey's head. The king's cousin flew through the nose and
delved into the brain. Massive armies attacked through the ears. The lord's most trusted followers
zipped in after him, maintaining their ranks. The glorious king commanded majestically at the head
of the army, in the battle, where he could be wounded. The sunlight glistened off of his wings as he
soared through the regiments. It was vital that he be here for this moment, for this was the last of the
primates.

"Oh no! That will not be necessary, Your– oh, I mean, uh, Iudraicor."
The Dragon King laughed and smiled genially.
"Let us get started. Our target is eighteen fly metes at the left wing." He spoke to the crowd of flies
now. "Vovin, Arach, and Ormr, take your regiments around to the abdomen of the beast. Sarkany,
Naga, Khoth, and Volante, loop yours around to the right wing. Lindworm and I will take the left.

The flies whizzed past him. His regiment stayed put, waiting for his word. He waited only because
his journey was by far the shortest, and he did not want to give away their presence by arriving
early, then dying because of lack of reinforcements.
Once all of the other flies had gone, he began his trip. His soldiers accompanied him in perfect

He had overestimated. All of the other dragonfly regiments were already in position, but

Marketing Plan for an Existing Business
Executive Summary
Dragonfly Designs already offers custom–made items and now we would like to expand our product
lines and offer do–it–yourself items. Our existing location can be renovated to add the space needed
for this service. We would also like to build a new facility with a larger work area for the do–it–
yourself projects and kilns in the back area. The back area would be large enough to hold the
inventory for both store locations. To accomplish these objectives, land needs to be found and
purchased for the new facility. Bank financing is necessary for the building of this new facility but
not needed for the renovations at our existing location. Dragonfly Designs would also like to begin
delivering our own goods locally. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Once More To The Lake By E. B White
E.B White, author of "Once More to the Lake" explores the dynamic relationship between father and
son to convey the power of memory and the inevitable chill of mortality. The symbol of the
dragonfly and the lake creates a sense of duality while introducing subtle changes throughout the
essay. The dragonfly and the sense of duality serves White's purpose by using it to compare and
contrast the position of father and son. The duality of the dragonfly empitomizes the common theme
of time being an illusion by saying that, "There had been no years between the ducking of this
dragonfly and the other one – the one that was part of memory" (433). The double–voicing,
questionable tone of the quote illustrates the parental realization that everyone

To Paint A Water Lily By Langston Hughes
In "To Paint a Water Lily", Hughes illustrates the process of an artist observing nature at a pond and
painting a lily. While the speaker thoroughly observes all kinds of scenes in the pond, the painter
only focuses on the lily. At the end of the poem, the painter resolves on painting only the lily,
ignoring the other aspects of the pond. The speaker critiques the painter's lack of attention to the
surrounding and the desire to capture only the beautiful part of the pond. The poem contrasts the
beauty and the violence created by the creatures around the lily and conveys that the calm
appearance of the pond is not necessarily the reality. In the beginning of the poem, the pond is
described as having "green level lily leaves" that covers the

M. C. Escher Tessellations
Have you ever looked into the concepts behind what makes a tessellation? Tessellations are made
using a combination of artistic and mathematical abilities. M.C. Escher was a talented man from the
Netherlands who made tessellations. He made such interesting art pieces of various types by using
mathematical concepts and artistic details. M.C. Escher's techniques on his tessellations made them
stand out to viewers. M.C. Escher was born in 1898 as Maurits Cornelis Escher ("Biography"). He
was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands ("Escher, Section 1"). As a student, Escher was not
particularly skilled in mathematics, even though, later in life, he used many mathematical concepts
to create his art ("Escher, Section 1"). Escher was a skilled artist at an early age, and both his family
and teachers recognized his remarkable abilities ("Escher, Section 1"). During his lifetime, M.C.
Escher lived in several countries in Europe, including the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, and
Belgium ("Escher, Section 1"). M.C. Escher died in 1972 ("Biography"). He was seventy–four years
old and he died in North Laren, Netherlands ("Escher, Section 1"). M.C. Escher was an influential ...

Escher was also a skilled mathematician, since he applied his mathematical knowledge to his art in
order to make it pop. Though Escher was not an exemplary mathematics student during elementary
school, he improved and began to demonstrate mathematical concepts in his art ("M.C. Escher.").
Escher made his images lighter as they approached the edge of his canvas so the viewer's eye would
be drawn to the center of the piece of art ("M.C. Escher."). Some of Escher's artwork is symmetrical.
Escher also made images smaller as they approached the end of the canvas, or towards the middle

images would repeat infinitely. All in all, Escher employs multiple mathematical concepts to make

Analysis Of To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes
In To Paint a Water Lily by Ted Hughes, the poet utilizes metaphor, personification, and imagery to
display the speaker's attitudes toward nature and the artist's task. Hughes' style shows that the
speaker is in awe of the landscape, and his task as an artist becomes to somehow capture the entirety
of the scene before him. To begin, the speaker uses an extended metaphor to set the scene of the
poem. He describes the water lilies as a barrier between two layers of nature. The layer of lilies
"roofs" the pond's chambers, while it also "paves" the flies' arena. By dividing the scene into two
layers, the speaker shows how complex the scene before him is. The most useful literary technique
that the speaker uses is personification. In personifying

The Story Of Drag : A Short Story
Long ago near a pleasant little pond, a blind dragonfly named Drag existed. All the other pond
critters hated the bumbling bug because he always bumped into them. "Are you blind?!" yelled Joe
the butterfly when Drag accidently bumped into him. "Yes actually," replied Drag grumpily, " why
are you yelling?" Unfortunately for him, Joe had already fluttered off toward a pretty flower. "Stop
talking to yourself, you're disturbing my sleep!" snapped Yolanda the moth. "Ow! That's not a
reason to bite me!" Drag said, not knowing that Yolanda had flown off to another spot to rest. "You
wasn't tasty anyway," Mark the mosquito announced, " the softies are so much better." "Speaking of
food Mark, would you be so kind as to bring me some food?" "Nah man you best ask one of your
people, I don't know what you eat!" As mark flew off, Drag continued on his curvy path until he
bumped into another bug. "Oh no please don't shout at me!" pleaded Drag,"I am just trying to get
some food." "Maybe get your eyes fixed first so you can see where you are going!" said Jackie
another dragonfly who was slightly smaller than Drag. Drag started crying, he was so hungry and so
angry that he kept getting yelled at. Jackie felt uncomfortable. "Continue on this path and when the

The End Of The Dark Passage Essay
At the end of the dark passage was a room identical to the secret alcove in his court. For all of
Jingyan's trepidation and anticipation, nothing happened. He kept a hand on the wall and followed
the sound of Su Zhe's footfall through the unobstructed passage until dimming sunlight split the
darkness. They exited into a crumbling structure with moldy beams and tangled spider webs, a
deserted court with a backdoor into the mountains that rose on the east border of Hua. Jingyan
followed Su Zhe through a grassy meadow and into a forest. Sometime in the middle of their walk,
the last rays of the sun slinked behind the horizon and left them in the shadows of the gnarled oak
trees. Twigs and fallen leaves crunched under his boot as Jingyan picked his way through the damp
moss of the forest path, dodging sagged branches and stepping over surface roots. The wind was
beginning to pick up, gently rustling the thick, dark green leaves of the shrubs nearby. Su Zhe
walked on his right, body obscured by his oversized cloak. "Don 't you have anything to say to me?"
Jingyan 's question broke the silence that 'd hung about since the hidden corridor was revealed.
"When you follow me without a question or comment," said Su Zhe. "Was it trust?" Jingyan glanced
at Su Zhe. Trust was a heavy word. He didn't dare to trust, but being by Su Zhe's side brought him
no small amount of familiarity and amenity. At the end of the long pause and forest trail, Jingyan
answered, "Part curiosity and part

What Does Dragonfly Function?
Example of an insect with incomplete metamorphosis is Dragonfly Like any insects, the dragonfly
has a 3–component frame: a head, a thorax, and a protracted thin, segmented stomach. The
dragonfly has 2 massive compound eyes that absorb maximum of the head. On the short thorax
there are three pairs of jointed legs and pairs of long, sensitive, membranous wings. The dragonfly
breathes via spiracles (tiny holes inside the abdomen). Existence cycle: A dragonfly undergoes
incomplete metamorphosis. The larva hatches from an egg that is laid in water, in vegetation near
water, or maybe underwater. As this aquatic (residing in the water) larva (known as a nymph) grows,
it molts (loses its vintage pores and skin) often. While fully–grown, it emerges

The Mark Of The Dragonfly Theme Analysis
Themes are really important in books, and sometimes they can change. Some of the themes in the
novel The Mark of the Dragonfly are: when difficult things happen, you have to get through them, if
you put your mind and effort into what you are doing you will accomplish it, and, always persist no
matter how hard the challenge is. I will explain how they change over time and how they are
different. A theme that occurred towards the beginning of the novel is 'When difficult things happen,
you have to get through them.' An example is Piper's dad died and she had no say in it whatsoever.
"He sent letters and money every week until about a year ago, when he died."(Page 66). This shows
that even if Piper wanted to or did not want to accept her dad's death, she had to either way. She had
to persist and accept that she had no one but herself. Another example is when Micah got hit on the
head with some caravan debris. Piper noticed that Micah got hit in the head and that he was
bleeding, Piper was not going to just stand there and cry for Micah. Piper got up and tried looking
for help. This shows that Piper put everything aside and was not going to stop for anything until she
got help for Micah. Another example is Piper needed a way for Anna to get to Noveen, so Piper and
Anna broke into the train. "It's still here.' Gasping, Piper skidded to a stop and changed directions,
heading for the station.'Come on, we're getting on that train."(Page 78). That shows Piper had a
problem that

Sperl V. H. Robinson Case Summary
Jonathan White Haskins MGT 360 11/30/2014 Sperl v. C.H. Robinson Worldwide Sperl v. CH
Robinson was filed in the Appellate Court of Illinois in the third district on March 30, 2011. Susan
D. Sperl filed the suit individually and as Executor of the Estate of Joseph G. Sperl, who is
deceased. The defendants were C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., Dragonfly, and Henry. This case not
only deals with finding out who is liable between all of the companies, but which companies owe
what amount of money. Sperl v. C.H. Robinson Worldwide is a complicated case that forces you to
think about every angle of the issues that arose following this accident and focuses on determining
which party is liable for the injuries that were incurred. The jury in this case concluded that C.H.
Robinson was vicariously liable based on agency and entered judgment in favor of the plaintiffs in
the amount of $23,775,000. $7.25 million went towards Sander's claims, $8.75 million went towards
Sperl's claims, and $7.78 million went towards Taluc's claim for injuries under the doctrine of
respondeat superior. Vicarious liability assigns liability for an injury to a person who did not cause
the injury but who has a legal relationship to the person who did act negligently. Since C.H.

The Value of Nature to Humans
The Value of Nature Humans project the value of nature because humans are the only beings that are
able to produce rational thoughts and are therefore, the only beings that value. Since humans are the
only beings that value, they are inherently the only things that determine the value of other things. In
addition to my main thesis, I will address where the value in nature originates by explaining the
disjoint relationship between humans and non–humans. Expanding on my thesis, I will prove the
projection view is correct by showing that all arguments for the recognition view appeal to
projection. Projection, meaning, humans project value on to nature rather than recognition, meaning,
humans recognize the intrinsic value of nature. The value of nature is a contentious issue that not
only concerns environmental ethicists, but also everyday people around the world. As our world
becomes more technologically dependent, it seems that we are becoming less concerned with nature.
In deciding the future of our planet, it is important that we explore the value of nature and the
consequence of destroying it. I will reference and utilize quotes by Holmes Rolston III from his
novel, A New Environmental Ethics, as I evaluate the Euthyphro Problem as it applies to the value
of nature. The recognition view of the value nature articulates that humans recognize the intrinsic
value of nature. Where does the basis for this argument originate? Rolston defends the idea that if an
organism performs

Emotions In The Novel 'The Mark Of The Dragonfly'
In the novel The Mark of the Dragonfly, the main character Piper had many different emotions
throughout the book. Sometimes Piper has more positive and joyful emotions, while on the other
hand she might have negative and not so jolly emotions. Piper's emotions change over the course of
the novel and are different from the beginning of the novel towards the ending of the novel. In page
24 in the book it states, "A cold knot of dread settled in Piper's stomach. 'Isn't he with you?" That
sentence would show Piper feeling fear or dread , when she realized that Micah was missing. This is
giving me the idea that the emotion that Piper is feeling, is going to change the way the author
writes the book, like when the author used 'a cold knot of dread.' That would show, since Piper is
feeling fear, the author includes more descriptive language that in other parts of the novel. Another
emotion change Piper had earlier in the book was in page 112, "Piper's stomach clenched when she
heard those words." That would show Piper feeling uneasy, or scared which ... Show more content

The author probably included this to show that Piper is not always scared, but can start standing up
for herself. The author might have also included this in order to have Piper be more brave
throughout the rest of the book, which would eventually help her win her battle against Doloman.
Another emotion change was in page 207 when it said, "Let it go.' Piper advised, pulling Anna
toward another chair. This would support the last emotion of standing up and not letting others bring
you down, which could possibly lead up to a theme. Both of these emotions were mostly about
being brave and confident, which is an extreme emotion change from the beginning of the novel;
having fear, to standing up from

How To Paint A Water Lily Essay
Ted Hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water lily
painting looked like. In all of his work, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make the reader
understand it by using nature as the key. The task in this poem is presented by the title "How To
Paint A Water Lily". The reason he wrote this poem, was to describe nature by decorating the spirit
of the environment around the lily. The two literary techniques that will be discussed in this paper
are imagery and alliteration. Ted Hughes is using his words to inform the painter in a way that
describes everything else but the lily. The painter is on a mission to create a painted depiction of a
water lily in a pond. Ted Hughes is very fond of nature as he mentions various aspects of nature to
create many images in our minds. However, the main aspect of the poem is surprisingly not the
flower; it was the dragonfly. The dragonfly appears for the second time in stanza 3. "First observe
the air's dragonfly
That eats meat, that bullets by" The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2–7 because of its role it plays
in the environment. The reader and the painter may wonder "What does the dragonfly have to do
with the water lily?" but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem. The
first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique found in
Ted Hughes' poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help

Advantages And Misconceptions Of The Flipped Learning Model
Part A
"In the Flipped Learning model, learning moves from large group teaching to individual learning
with the help of technology"
Flipped Learning model is being defines as an alternative model of instruction which digital
technologies are used to shift direct instruction outside of the large group learning space to the
individual learning space with the help of technologies, usually via videos. Teachers will usually
record and narrate screen casts of work they do using their computer desktops, create videos of
subjects or lessons about themselves teaching, or curate video lessons from internet site. Then, with
the materials and video recorded, it then be posted online or You Tube for students to download and
access whenever and wherever it is convenient. The videos or screen casts are available for students
to access whenever and wherever it is convenient–at home, during study hall, on the bus, even in the
hospital–as many times as they like, enabling them to come class better prepared (Musallam,2011).

  • 4. Techie 12 Research Paper If fishing is your thing, but you want a paddle board that is a little smaller than the Dragonfly 13'6", then the Techie 12' is a good choice. While previous paddle boards from Dragonfly could be used for fishing, the Techie has been specifically designed for the hard–core angler. According to Dragonfly, the purpose of the board is frill–free fishing, but this doesn't mean that they skimped on features. What makes the Techie special is the fact that it is hand–crafted using vinyl ester resin with bi– directional fabric. It also has a 30–inch beam and beaded foam core. Dragonfly included two cubic square feet of forward dry storage in the twelve–foot hull and a small circular well in the aft. The forward storage is insulated and the aft well is compatible with an optional pump. Also on this board you'll find three flush–mounted rail systems and how you customize it with camera mounts, rod holders and other accessories is up to you. Also of note is the unique water shedding deck and ocean grip padding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, it has a removable fin system and drain plug. Don't let the light weight fool you as this board is able to float about 320 pounds. Dragonfly Boatworks is known for the quality that goes into their products and this can clearly be seen with the Techie 12'. If you are a fishing purist and want a reliable paddle board that does everything you need it to do out on the water then don't miss out on the Techie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. To Paint A Water Lily Essay Mother Nature takes a deep breath, and she sighs a breeze. Her feet are planted solidly in the ground, and her tap–root toes dig deep into soft soil. Her eyes are storms; but, behind the eyes, her mind is a pond. Nature's mind has a visible surface, but also an entirely hidden world of the unknown "water" of subliminal thought. In To Paint a Water Lily by Ted Hughes illustrates the intricacies of a pond to depict an understanding that nature is complex than what is comprehensible. Moreover, Hughes argues that in order to create an accurate portrait of one aspect of nature, such as a water lily, one must understand its environment. Hughes begins the poem by distinguishing the water and the sky, thus in the opening line the author has already complicated nature's depiction. Water and sky become "two minds" of the same woman, the pond. The personification of the environment sends a message immediately: this image is not a landscape, but a portrait. Just as a well–made portrait captures the subject's personality through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sixteen lines of this poem are dedicated to describing creatures that "alight" the subject of the painting, delicately perching for a brief second before humming away. If this much detail is required to understand the water lily above the surface, then there must be something to say about the waters below; however, it is through the exclusion of the details of the water that Hughes makes his most powerful comment on nature. The water lily balances delicately between what is known about nature, the "dragonfly" so to speak, and "whatever horror nudge her root," the uncertainty, the unconsciousness, the yet to be ... • 8. Memory E. B White Analysis I believe E. B. White was successful in creating a piece about memory. The use of his descriptive sentence structure throughout the piece transported the reader to that very lake in Maine he wrote of. Furthermore I felt as if I was there watching it happen in front of me. He thoroughly described each setting in such great detail that I recalled memories of my own with my father. We would go camping and fishing on a lake in South Carolina much similar to the one E.B. White described. These trips took place in the month of July when the heat was at its peak, mosquitoes abound, crickets and frogs sang in unison, the smell of DEET smothered all over my body and the late evening thunderstorms which brought wind, rain and lightning. • 10. Adapting to Survive Adapting to Survive Animals live in all kinds of different places around the world ranging from desert, rainforest, savannas, and tundra. Some of these areas aren't best fit for some animals to live in, but they adapt, but what is adaption? Adaption is what helps the animals stay alive in the current surrounding and situation. Animal's adaption can range from the shape of its mouth or beak, the thickness of its fur, or even the color of the animal itself. For example camels have adapted to survive by their camel hump, they use the hump as sustenance when there isn't any food around for them. Camels evolved to develop their hump because they live in a desert where there is a lack of food for them to eat. These adaptions didn't just come from camels though, adaptions may have come from animals that are extinct. Some extinct animals may look somewhat familiar to the animals we see today, that's because a lot of animal evolved from the same creature, but adapting to different areas. An example would be that a rodents live in one place, and some separated to another. Two of the same rodents now lived in different ecosystems, so they adapted to them differently than the other. One rodent evolved into a tree habitat so it developed flaps so it could glide to other trees, similar to a flying squirrel. The other rodent evolved with similar flaps, but the rodent was smaller so it could hide from its prey easier in the bushes. Animals do not always change the way they look by ... • 12. Dragonfly Research Paper Now that we have covered what exactly an arthropod is and why they (specifically the uniramians class) are so successful, we can focus on one specific organism and look deeper into how they evolved to be so successful in the environment they are in today. The organism that we are going to be focusing on is the dragonfly. The dragonfly has been around for 300 million years and has manage to stay alive and thrive in its environments. Back then an ancestor of dragonflies roamed the planet, its name was Meganeura. Meganeura is a genus of extinct insects from approximately 300 million years ago, they are related to modern–day dragonflies. In this group one member known as M. permiana was first described be researchers in Kansas in 1937 as having a wingspan of over 2 feet or 0.6 meters long. It is still considered one of the largest insects ever to be alive on this planet. To better understand why prehistoric dragonflies were bigger than modern ones we must go back in time to take a look at what potentially happened and how the dragonfly evolved into what it is today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The wingless insects first appeared approximately 380 million years ago. The evolution of insects happened in four stages but for the dragonfly it appears in the second stage so we will only be looking into the first and second stages. The first stage is called the Apterygote stage, this term broken down basically means "without wings." During this stage the simplest forms of insects were developed. They had no wings, or developed leg/ body parts. They also did not go through metamorphosis, instead they went through something known as ametabolous development. Ametabolous development basically means that the immature closely resembles the adult except for the presence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily The poem "How to Paint A Water Lily" by Ted Hughes is a beautiful piece of work. Just like a painter would put very fine details with every stroke of the paintbrush, so does Hughes with each stanza to build this beautiful poem. Although the poem's title makes the reader think the poem is about a water lily it is really about the environment around it. Hughes uses personification to describe the scene the speaker is witnessing in comparison of the water lily. Ted Hughes used personification throughout the entire poem. Most of the personification in the poem is based on the world around the flower instead of the actual flower. In the fourth stanza, Hughes describes the eating habits of the dragonfly by saying, "First observe the air's dragonfly That eats meat, that bullets by." This means the dragonfly is eating insects that are flying by and is describing the flying insects as "bullets". Another example of personification in the poem is in the thirteenth stanza. The thirteenth stanza says, "Which, deep in both worlds, can be still, As a painting, trembling hardly at all." In this stanza Hughes is describing the still sitting water lily in all of the chaos around it by saying the flower is not "trembling" in the water as if nothing is happening at all. Ted Hughes may not mention the flower many times in the poem but he does mention it at the beginning and the end. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker starts to describe the leaves on the bottom of the water lily. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Endangered Animals Endangered Insects The term "endangered" is used to describe a species that is at a serious risk of extinction. The amount of species that are considered at risk is continuously increasing. Because of pollution and/or global warming, multiple different species have become, and are becoming, endangered; thus also causing issues in their environments. The purpose of this essay is to shed light on the current situation of endangered insects. It will be focusing on bumblebees and Hine's emerald dragonflies in particular. As small as they seem, bees are a crucial factor in human life. This is because of the simple fact that bees pollinate our plants. Bumblebees, in particular, pollinate from spring to late–fall. Many plants cannot produce food without insect pollination, such tomatoes, cranberries, and peppers. The bee population is extremely important because no bees means no food. Yet, within recent years, several bee species have been officially added to the US endangered species list. Their decreased numbers are due to multiple factors; such as climate change, pesticide use, and disease. "Bees are dying out at the southern end of their range because of the rise of extreme heat waves."[1] For many other species, as climate changes, they move. However, bumblebees are not doing the same. "Many North American and European bumblebees are failing to track warming by colonizing new northern habitats."[2] Thus, the bees are simply disappearing from southern areas. Besides climate ... • 20. Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes Ted hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water lily painting looked like. In all of his works, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make the reader understand it by using nature as the key. The task in this poem is presented by the title "How To Paint A Water Lily". The reason he wrote this poem, was to describe nature by decorating the spirit of the environment around the lily. The two literary techniques that will be discussed in this paper are imagery and alliteration. Ted Hughes is using his words to inform the painter in a way that describes everything else but the lily. The painter is on a mission to create a painted depiction of a water lily in a pond. Ted Hughes is very fond of nature as he mentions various aspects of nature to create many images in our minds. However, the main aspect of the poem is surprisingly not the flower; it was the dragonfly. The dragonfly appears for the second time in stanza 3. "First observe the air's dragonfly That eats meat, that bullets by" . The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2–7 because of its role it plays on the environment. The reader and the painter may wonder "What does the dragonfly have to do with the water lily?" but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem. The first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique found in Ted Hughes' poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help readers visualize the work better. While Ted is describing the environment around the lily, he describes the action of the dragonflies as "Rainbow their arcs, spark, or settle." which makes you visualize the dragonflies arching their backs as if they were about to fly full speed, seeing a spark happen from the light reflecting off of their shiny wings. The part about "settle" is about how the dragonflies probably fly away or land on the lily when they are done fighting. The details that were just described were not stated in the poem, it's just what was visualized after reading these words. There are many other examples of imagery in the poem. The first stanza says "A green level of lily leaves Roofs the pond's chamber and paves The flies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sometimes people call this pet their totem canine. This is somewhat of an misnomer just because a totem animal is similar to a family group crest or a flag. Totems usually signify a family group or group you are an integral part of. For your tattoo though, nearly all women want something that represents them; in the end, a tattoo decorates your system. • 27. Why Is Vegetarianism Wrong Vegetarianism: Because Killing Plants is OK How could a seven year old possibly make a difference? How could a seven year old possibly make a decision for herself? How could a seven year old survive without enough protein? These were a few of many ignorant questions that bombarded the ears of my proud parents. Throughout my young life, I always had a deep appreciation and passion for living creatures. So much so, that ants, crawling along the sidewalk would captivate my attention; snakes, slithering through the sludgy, green creek water would fascinate me. Due to my intense love of animals, the thought of harming them deeply saddened me. At the young age of seven years old, I became a self proclaimed tree–hugger, peace–lover and no meat–eater whom by the way, did receive enough protein. As a young child, I became a vegetarian due to one single, overwhelming reason: animals and I are the same. We breathe the same air, we walk among the same ground, we have complex and very real feelings and we have families. I realized this whilst spending an afternoon in my favorite creek–spot in my hometown. I watched frogs, jump from rock to rock, crawfish scatter around the creek ... I knew that I cared deeply about all living creatures and since I would never hurt them, I definitely did not want to support an industry that did. The label, vegetarian, describes a human who does not consume animal meat. In my case, being a vegetarian is much more than what I eat, or rather, don't eat. It is what I believe in. I believe that animals are similar to humans in such a tremendous way, that harming an animal is equivalent to the harm of a human. This belief, engraved in my core, leads my way as a religion would with some people. It is the moral code in which I live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another good way to gain knowledge about the dragonflies is through reading the book called "Are you a Dragonfly?" by Judy Allen. Through reading the student can expand their vocabulary and a better meaning of the words. By reading the book it not only helps them with their vocabulary word but it also give them information about the dragonflies. The assessment method that I chose was to ask the students questions about what they have learned about the dragonfly. I also feel that another good way is the have them share what they have learned with their fellow classmates. Lastly reviewing the chart that we did together as a class will also reinforce what they have learned and will give the teacher an insight of what they have learned. We as teachers needs to make sure that we include comprehensible input. This is important because it makes sure that the students complete the assignment and understand what they have learned. In order to make sure that this is done we may need to offer them the materials for this lesson in their native language that they can use in class and take home to review with Using SEI Strategies in a SIOP Lesson Plan 3 their ... The Lyrical Novel Border Town by Shen Congwen A lyrical novel has unique features such that its words are directed to the reader, appealing to the reader's emotions and feelings, while depicting a story which complements these emotions that is induced upon the reader. The idea behind a lyrical novel can be said to be a contradiction–novels focus on the explanation of the story plot, while lyrical novels are more about moral decisions, the expression of themes and how the surroundings can be integrated to show the character's mood. Hence, it can be said that it is the character's emotions that drives the development of the plot. Shen Congwen's Border Town can indeed be considered to be such a lyrical novel. Border Town was depicted to be a 'dreamlike' town, with its citizens enjoying peace generation after generation, like the flowing water in the river next to the town. The white pagoda stands tall, unwavering, symbolizing peacefulness and tranquillity. Border Town is widely considered to be a utopian–like story, with an interesting love twist, where two men are after the affections of the lead character. There are several features that resemble those of a lyrical novel. In the beginning of the story, a passage depicts the peacefulness of the town by the use of the setting of the town, with objects that are normally associated with beauty and serenity. Such was seen in, 'there were peach blossoms there was sure to be a home, and walls of yellow earth and pitch–black tiles...in harmony with the surroundings on every side, ... • 33. Descriptive Essay On A Rare Bird A quiet bird. One that lived deep inside the forest. One that was barely seen when wanderers passed the green and brown of the trees, and the underwood, the grass and the leaves. All they've seen was the sunlight filtered through this army of leaves above their heads and in height of their eyes, caressing their faces as they pass through a void of never–ending emerald. The tears of a bygone night moistened their cheeks and they'd ignore the mourning. Footsteps sunk deep into the velvet ground covered by moss. They sank so deep that the strollers were afraid of being locked into this green hell forever. Dragonflies and other winged insects rose with the last remains of mist that told the story of a lonely, rare bird. The strollers stopped walking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, I am a bird and the hunter caught me. A big, darkly dressed fellow with dead eyes and skin as bright as silk when it lay in my mother's hand. The silk my mother's face was covered in when she died. Her face gone, hidden beneath a layer of expensive fabric. I never understood why they would do such a thing, hiding a face of a beloved beneath a cover. Then, the hunter grabbed me tight and put me into a wooden cage. He tapped his finger against it and smiled at me. Surely, he did not mean me harm, but he harmed me anyway. I cannot flap my wings, I can no longer fly, no longer can I graze the air with my coat. All what is left that I can do is to sing, but not too loud or they'll place a cover across my cage and hide what I was once. Maybe it will be silk and they will mourn me, too? When I sing, it is quiet. I recall the many shades light took when it shun through droplets of mist, when the little orb slowly rolled down the leave and it was so heavy, the leave gave in and watched the drop fall down into many other drops that weren't supposed to be abandoned by the trees. Biobottle Lab Report Biobottle Write–up In the biobottle experiment, the purpose was to create a closed ecosystem, containing biotic and abiotic factors, which aimed to sustain life without contact with the outside world throughout a period of six weeks. For the procedure, the ecosystem was to be observed over this time. The experiment began when a one–quart mason jar with its contents was sealed on October 7, 2015. In the beginning of the experiment, the known contents of the jar and initial rationales behind them (italicized) included: ● Water from the middle pond filled to the 600 mL mark of the jar (about 550 mL): the environment for the aquatic ecosystem with enough room for gases at the surface ● Pond mud filled approximately halfway between the bottom and 100 mL mark of the jar: source of nitrogen and miscellaneous organisms ● 2 small sandstones: phosphorus used for phosphorus cycle ● 1 stick: for animals to use for movement ● 1 leaf: nitrogen; it ... However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got bigger, they would rain down in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated, as shown by the graph. Another cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the carbon and oxygen cycle. In order for the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was trapped in the jar, producers supplied the animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae throughout the observation period. The symbol of the dragonfly and the lake creates a sense of duality while introducing subtle changes throughout the essay. The dragonfly and the sense of duality serves White's purpose by using it to compare and contrast the position of father and son. The duality of the dragonfly empitomizes the common theme of time being an illusion by saying that, "There had been no years between the ducking of this dragonfly and the other one – the one that was part of memory" (433). While the speaker thoroughly observes all kinds of scenes in the pond, the painter only focuses on the lily. At the end of the poem, the painter resolves on painting only the lily, ignoring the other aspects of the pond. The speaker critiques the painter's lack of attention to the surrounding and the desire to capture only the beautiful part of the pond. Analysis Of To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes In To Paint a Water Lily by Ted Hughes, the poet utilizes metaphor, personification, and imagery to display the speaker's attitudes toward nature and the artist's task. Hughes' style shows that the speaker is in awe of the landscape, and his task as an artist becomes to somehow capture the entirety of the scene before him. To begin, the speaker uses an extended metaphor to set the scene of the poem. He describes the water lilies as a barrier between two layers of nature. The layer of lilies "roofs" the pond's chambers, while it also "paves" the flies' arena. By dividing the scene into two layers, the speaker shows how complex the scene before him is. • 70. The Mark Of The Dragonfly Theme Analysis Themes are really important in books, and sometimes they can change. Some of the themes in the novel The Mark of the Dragonfly are: when difficult things happen, you have to get through them, if you put your mind and effort into what you are doing you will accomplish it, and, always persist no matter how hard the challenge is. I will explain how they change over time and how they are different. A theme that occurred towards the beginning of the novel is 'When difficult things happen, you have to get through them.' An example is Piper's dad died and she had no say in it whatsoever. "He sent letters and money every week until about a year ago, when he died."(Page 66). This shows that even if Piper wanted to or did not want to accept her dad's death, she had to either way. She had to persist and accept that she had no one but herself. Another example is when Micah got hit on the head with some caravan debris. Piper noticed that Micah got hit in the head and that he was bleeding, Piper was not going to just stand there and cry for Micah. Piper got up and tried looking for help. This shows that Piper put everything aside and was not going to stop for anything until she got help for Micah. Another example is Piper needed a way for Anna to get to Noveen, so Piper and Anna broke into the train. "It's still here.' Gasping, Piper skidded to a stop and changed directions, heading for the station.'Come on, we're getting on that train."(Page 78). That shows Piper had a problem that ... • 74. The Value of Nature to Humans The Value of Nature Humans project the value of nature because humans are the only beings that are able to produce rational thoughts and are therefore, the only beings that value. Since humans are the only beings that value, they are inherently the only things that determine the value of other things. In addition to my main thesis, I will address where the value in nature originates by explaining the disjoint relationship between humans and non–humans. Expanding on my thesis, I will prove the projection view is correct by showing that all arguments for the recognition view appeal to projection. Projection, meaning, humans project value on to nature rather than recognition, meaning, humans recognize the intrinsic value of nature. The value of nature is a contentious issue that not only concerns environmental ethicists, but also everyday people around the world. As our world becomes more technologically dependent, it seems that we are becoming less concerned with nature. In deciding the future of our planet, it is important that we explore the value of nature and the consequence of destroying it. I will reference and utilize quotes by Holmes Rolston III from his novel, A New Environmental Ethics, as I evaluate the Euthyphro Problem as it applies to the value of nature. The recognition view of the value nature articulates that humans recognize the intrinsic value of nature. Where does the basis for this argument originate? • 76. Emotions In The Novel 'The Mark Of The Dragonfly' In the novel The Mark of the Dragonfly, the main character Piper had many different emotions throughout the book. Sometimes Piper has more positive and joyful emotions, while on the other hand she might have negative and not so jolly emotions. Piper's emotions change over the course of the novel and are different from the beginning of the novel towards the ending of the novel. In page 24 in the book it states, "A cold knot of dread settled in Piper's stomach. 'Isn't he with you?" That sentence would show Piper feeling fear or dread , when she realized that Micah was missing. This is giving me the idea that the emotion that Piper is feeling, is going to change the way the author writes the book, like when the author used 'a cold knot of dread.' That would show, since Piper is feeling fear, the author includes more descriptive language that in other parts of the novel. Another emotion change Piper had earlier in the book was in page 112, "Piper's stomach clenched when she heard those words." That would show Piper feeling uneasy, or scared which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author probably included this to show that Piper is not always scared, but can start standing up for herself. The author might have also included this in order to have Piper be more brave throughout the rest of the book, which would eventually help her win her battle against Doloman. Another emotion change was in page 207 when it said, "Let it go.' Piper advised, pulling Anna toward another chair. This would support the last emotion of standing up and not letting others bring you down, which could possibly lead up to a theme. Both of these emotions were mostly about being brave and confident, which is an extreme emotion change from the beginning of the novel; having fear, to standing up from ... • 78. How To Paint A Water Lily Essay Ted Hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water lily painting looked like. In all of his work, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make the reader understand it by using nature as the key. "First observe the air's dragonfly That eats meat, that bullets by" The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2–7 because of its role it plays in the environment. The reader and the painter may wonder "What does the dragonfly have to do with the water lily?" but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem. The first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique found in Ted Hughes' poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help ...
