Dangers And Long-Term Effects Of Tanning
Media Analysis 'Media' is the plural of the word 'medium', which often refers to different ways of
communicating with other people; if the target is a large number of people, then it is called 'mass
media'. There are many types of media, such as TV, radio, films, newspaper, Internet etc. The main
purpose of media is to entertain; however they can also be used to persuade, inform, explain and
advice. Media can be very powerful; therefore people are influenced and affected by them. The two
articles we have looked at for analysis have a common theme – both talks about the dangers and
long–term effects of tanning. The first article is from The Big Issues and the second is from Derby
Evening...show more content...
The two texts have been written with different intentions and they both have specific target
audiences. The first text, 'Sun Vampires' from The Big Issue, has been written to inform the readers
of the dangers and long–term effects of tanning. Other purposes include: to ridicule the 'tanorexics',
to advice people about the proper method of tanning and to warn those who are beginning to go on
the sunbeds. The main target audience of this article is the younger generations of the society who
are more likely to get addicted to tanning on sunbeds. Nevertheless to some extent, the authorial
intent is to entertain and titillate leisurely readers who are looking for something to amuse the
mind. In order to achieve the purpose and communicate the ideas to the readership, the writer uses
vernacular language such as 'fork out', 'one hell of a habit' and 'let's face it', and modern names, e.g.
Peter Andre and Bros – these techniques appeal greatly to the young people and therefore convey
the message more effectively. The writer also grabs the attention of casual readers by using a
light–hearted tone– as a result of this, the reader wouldn't be too shocked or frightened, thus willing
to buy another copy of the magazine in the future. The second text, 'Face the fact – the sun is a real
danger', from Derby Evening Telegraph (DET), have similar purposes to the 'Sun Vampires': to

Effect of Media and Mass Communication Essay
The media is a powerful presence within the lives of others. It can be described as the main
channel of mass communication. Media is often used to deliver a message to a large audience who
are diverse. It can be written, broadcast or spoken. Media is a significant force within modern
culture. Culture can be defined as the norms and values of a society. In our culture, the
communications media hold an influential place in disseminating information, forming attitudes,
and motivating behaviour. Technological advances are increasing the role of the media and its
capacity to shape public opinion. Our society depends on the news media to provide information to
help us form opinions and make voting decisions. It is clear the media has a huge...show more

It was cheaper and made large scale distribution possible. These technology advances allowed the
medium to enter popular culture and enhancing its influence within society [McLuhan, 1962]. By the
nineteen twenties, mass media became known not only for print media, but radio and television
also. Television provided both information and entertainment which became very popular. It was
considered easier than actively reading. In recent times, mass media has taken on a different form;
the internet. It is now the most popular form of mass media. Not only has the internet become a
sensation but mobile phones, blogs and podcasts have all become the new forms of mass media
within our modern culture. The media is easily accessed and waiting for us at the touch of a button.
As a result, our culture is enormously influenced by the media. In this essay I will be discussing the
media and deviance and the effects it has on our culture.
One theory that was formed during this investigation was the cumulative effects model [Elisabeth
Noelle–Neumann, 1974]. This complex theory looks at the potential affects media has on an
individual with an active media consumption. This theory focuses on the agenda setting function in
which the media acts upon. The media cannot force an individual to think a certain way. However it
does have the power to control what the individual thinks about. If an issue is frequently in the

Essay on Crime and the Media
Crime and the Media
The public depends on the news media for its understanding of crime. Reportedly three quarters
(76%) of the public say, they form their opinions about crime from what they see or read in the
news (Dorfman & Schiraldi, 2001). After reviewing five hours of reality crime television
shows, one is left with a very dismal look on society and a prejudice towards minorities as they are
largely depicted as the perpetrators of crime. This new genre commonly referred to as reality
television appears to be sweeping the nation by storm. Opinions vary, depending on whom you ask,
to what extent reality plays a role versus the selling of a product. Sensationalism, advertising, ratings
hype, profiling and fear all comprise the mass...show more content...
The apprehension and subsequent arrest all dramatized for the cameras. The suspect, heard on
camera being questioned about his past domestic violence charges, his inability to pay child support
and finally he is asked about the observed drug purchase.
Of the nineteen cases reviewed, drug related crimes were more prevalent. In cases involving African
American suspects, the drug of choice was crack cocaine. In suspects that were Caucasian, the drug
of choice was methamphetamines. On the episode aired on May 5, 2005, COPS: Bad Girls, the
suspect, a Caucasian woman was selling drugs and prostituting (Langley, 2005). With the cameras
rolling, the audience is able to overhear, that the suspect is on welfare and has had her children
taken away because of her drug habit. The suspect denies the charges, and the officer insists on
making the point that she is using her welfare money in order to purchase drugs.
In the cases reviewed, the program did not divulge the age. Upon observation, the average estimated
age is twenty–five. Age did not appear to have any particular correlation to the type of criminal
activity. What appeared to be more in play was the socioeconomic scale of the suspects. The
average age and circumstances seem to strike a familiar vein with the cases reviewed. On average,
the suspects were unemployed, residing with a family member, a history of violence and drug use.

Influences Of Social Media Essay
There is no secret that a modern day teenager's life is built around the usage of technology. As a
result of society's heavy reliance on technology, social media has become popular amongst people
who are "technologically advanced." Though there is a wide variety of social sites that can be
accessed through modern day technology, a few have become very popular. Social sites which have
become widely popular among teens include Instagram, Tumblr, and Snapchat. These social
networking sites provide instant social connection and emotional support while letting teens post and
send pictures of their everyday life. Many teens look towards social media for emotional support
and social acceptance. The continual usage of these sites are negatively...show more content...
Instagram Features their most liked pictures in a tab on their app. In reality, the "Featured" tab on
Instagram is for people who've obtained a high reputation in the social scene. These "Instagram
Famous" individuals force people to want to attain more followers and 'likes' on their photos. The
majority of teens use social media in order to measure their popularity against others. A popular
trend called 'selfies' are now arising amongst teens. According to Victoria Woollaston, a science
and tech reporter at Daily Mail, "The new craze, which involves posing by yourself before taking a
picture, has risen in popularity, with over one million selfies taken every day". Teens measure their
self–worth by posting their 'selfies' on Instagram. There becomes a constant battle as to who can get
more 'likes' and comments on a picture. Victoria Woollaston also states that, "The majority of teens
post the photos in search of assurance and compliments, but they are making themselves vulnerable
to negative comments and abuse". In search for attention teens do not realize that they are bringing
down their self– esteem. Most teens are likely to delete a photo if it doesn't get as many 'likes' as
they would want or if they were to receive a negative comment on a photo. Today's teens are now
making it easier to get bullied through social apps. In many cases teens often bully themselves. There

Persuasive Essay On The Media
My previous experience with this topic of media always trying to persuade you, well I do have
never really thought about it like that. I have read the book, The Hunger Games, and seen the
movie. I have never put any thought in how the media persuades them and controls their society.
For me, the book and movie were very entertaining. Action packed and attention grabbing, you
never wanted to look away or put the book down because you never knew what was going to
happen next. For the next 2 hours, or however long it takes you to finish the book, you put
yourself in the shoes of someone else's life. The main point of this article is how the media is
always trying to persuade you. Even when you think you are just being informed, whoever is
informing you has an opinion of that topic. That person's opinion of the subject has to do with
feelings and "feelings are often times much more powerful than fact" (Page 2). Knowing that
feelings are more powerful than fact, the media tries to inject fear. The reason behind injecting
fear is to persuade you to think what they think. We might leave in a country full of freedom's, but
"we still manage to be molded by a medium that we have no control over" (Page 3). We learn about
what is going on in the world by what we see in the mass media. We are not over in Iran, we only
know what is being told to us. We could have a different view from what the media tells us, if we
saw it in person and knew what they were going through. The media just gives us enough
information to be persuaded to what they want us to think. I think the point is worth making, have
people start thinking more in depth about what they are being told. Have them thinking about what
are they leaving out and why. My reaction to this article is mind–blowing. I think she did a great job
proving her point. Every time she made another point, it got me thinking and seeing what she was
saying. When she talked about how "it is just a movie... but it is also manipulation" really struck me
and made me think. While watching movies, sometimes we laugh or sometimes we cry, but have
you ever really thought about it. The producer plays sad music to arouse a sad feeling, the main point
of that is to show that they can manipulate

Social Media And Sociology Essay
Social Media and Sociology Berlirce Chetgna In this modern age, the majority of society has
adapted to social media and the newest technology to fit around our lives. Technology provides
tools that are imperative to the making and the use of other tools. It is a tool in itself. Technology
is changing rapidly; so rapidly, in fact, there can be cultural gaps between generations. The
construction of social media has enabled access to innovative phenomenon, broken barriers, changed
our perspectives on ideas, and has even opened doors to new opportunities. Efficiency is a
monumental advantage that technology and social media has provided for many. Whether someone

Television, movies, songs, and social media are the cultured lenses in which we view the world.
What we perceive through a screen can change where we stand on certain topics; for example,
gender messages and body images. Mass media not only reflects gender stereotypes but also plays
a role in changing them. Females used to be portrayed as less brave and more dependent. Now
there are strong, independent female characters like Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games
and intelligent, brave female characters like Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. Like women's
changing positions in society, more aggressive and dominant females are being featured. Mass
media molds new stereotypes but not all the ideas that are communicated are positive. Mass media
is effective in teaching us what we "should" look like. Women should be thin. Men should be
muscular. The skinny and muscular ideals portrayed in advertising encourage men and women to
look a certain way. The depiction of the female ideal has helped shaped society's perspectives about
beauty. The media pushes you to "improve your body" by buying their products but soon the road to
a skinny and toned body leads to a self destructive path of self hatred. The powerful ideas that the
media transmits through words, images, and movement can have lasting impacts on the human
brain, affecting how we think and

Essay on The Media and Its Responsibilities
The Media and Its Responsibilities SOC 120 Introduction to Ethics & Social Responsibility
The media has become a major factor of our times and the influence it has on people young and old.
You would think that the world has enough influence all around them during their everyday lives and
then we come home and turn on our televisions, pick up a newspaper, a magazine, or even the
computer and it is all right there. Over the years the media has been more open and I believe that
has a lot to do with the growing of our minds and our children's minds and they are just trying to
keep up and keep people interested even though it may be a little risky to show no matter what

A lot of the reality shows we watch today are taped and we do not even see everything that leads
up to the main parts that they show us to get our attention. Most media producers know what will
make something stand out and catch the eye of the listeners, watchers, and readers and that is
what they feed off of. To boost their ratings and to make money off of the people that are unknown
other than the shows they are being advertise on that are making money off their every move. In
the media world that is what it is all about; finding the showstopper and giving them the most
attention from what they do and say to draw attention as far as viewers, readers, and now and days
most commonly bloggers that are watching their every move. At the end of the day that is what it is
all about, making money off a lot of nonsense.
The observations we make by watching, reading, and listening to media can make or break our
perspectives of the world as we know it. Some people are so easily influenced by what they see and
hear that it is hard to tell them anything different once they see it. Certain shows that are aired on
television are aired on what's said to be children's stations for a reason. Reason being it is meant for
children. If we were to let our children watch everything and anything they wanted to watch on
television and look up on the internet without having any parental controls may be very

Media And Media
The mass media is an important factor when it comes to getting a message across to the public. No
specific community can do without media as it is a crucial element to society. The media helps
provide individuals things that they need the most, that being information. Sometimes this
information is considered injurious and appalling, whereas other times it normal. The messages that
are taken from the media are based off of one's own faith and knowledge, in accordance to the
reinforcement theory (Jetter, 2017). The reinforcement theory argues that you can change someone's
perspective or behavior by using reinforcement, punishment and extinction. Punishments are used to
avoid the behavior you do, rewards are used to support the behavior you want and lastly extinction
represents stopping an individual from acting upon a learned behavior.
Although terrorism cannot be defined in one specific definition, it can be depicted as the use of
violence against innocent individuals to bring political change through the means of fear . Majority
of the time, terrorist attacks are often not directly intended for an exact individual, rather, are done to
convey a memorandum (Altheide, 2007). This can potentially signify that the media paying a large
amount of attention to terrorist organizations, may further encourage them to continue their
violence. The correlation between terrorist and the media is symbiotic as terrorist organizations
terrorize in order to seek publicity for the sole

The Effects of Media on the Public's Opinion Mass media – have you ever taken the time to consider
two articles about the same thing? Some may be more bias against a group or idea, while others
keep a strict, non bias view. The way the media portrays events may change or even corrupt people's
thoughts on certain public matters. This paper will dissect four articles on the Woodstock riots and
show the relationships and differences between them. On a Sunday night, near the closing song of
the Red Hot Chili Peppers, there were a few bonfires were reported. The firefighters, feeling they
were under control, let these bonfires burn. Then Limp Bizkit came on, another hard–core band. In

similar quote by an unknown person, Oh man they must of run out of drugs, (page 1 & 2) struck
the author so much that he made it the title. Facts may be different or changed up to help
exaggerate the authors' or companies' view points in the articles, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock
'n' Roll? and Woodstock Gets Ugly. In the article, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock 'n' Roll? the
author spends the majority of his writing comparing the past two Woodstocks to the current one,
barely touching on the subject of the riot. The article only stated what happened and the fact that the
blame should be placed on the band, Limp Bizkit. The band was said to have urged the audience to
break stuff. In the other article, Woodstock Gets Ugly, it is said that placing one hard–core band
after another could be a mistake and may be the cause of the riots, or other happening, to be
placed on the organizers of the event, the bands or the audience. This shows how the companies' or
authors' views can be bias against certain groups or ideas by placing the blame on a single band,
but a non bias paper places the blame all around. The motivation in

Argumentative Essay On News Media
News media serves as the main source of information for people in most nations, regardless of the
kind of government or democracy in place. Since humans take decisions and function based on
the kind of information they have, the importance of information flow cannot be overemphasised.
Governments, well aware of the role and power of the news media to influence the populace,
place a high premium on, and will go to great lengths to align the available news media to serve
their purpose. This goes for the whole spectrum on governance, from democratic to autocratic.
Observing the origins of conflict globally over years, especially civil wars which is a great threat to
human security, information available from news media has been a key motivation or driver.
The 1994 Rwandan genocide is an example of how information access interphases with national
security negatively to create chaos. The government of the day used state owned media to pitch the
Tutsi's and Hutu's against each other, while the world watched. Democratic governments do not
necessarily guarantee press freedom and human rights, and autocracies stifle the same as we may
want to think, if taken at face value. Many democratic governments basically run the state owned
news media and dictate their output, which begs the question what is the minimum level of
democracy and what exactly makes media "free". (Hutchinson, Salvatore and Whitten–Woodring).
Sometimes there seems to be a mismatch between government type and the

Essay On Media Bias
The media has developed its own way of captivating viewers' attention, and more importantly
opinions, by frequently using an excessive amount of bias. The term bias means to feel or show
inclination or prejudice for or against someone or something. Bias is not only tied to people, it is
tied to opinions as well. It is common to see media sources stating its opinion on a topic,
persuasion into believing the same details as the media, is its equivalent. The media is notoriously
known to only show the public what should be seen. News stories are aired night after night in
which only a portion of the story is being told, initially leading viewers to believe the same thing as
the news sources. By implementing the use of bias, the public has developed...show more content...
John Stossel is a mainstream media journalist who was fired from his job after stating that the
media contained bias and that he is a Libertarian. Stossel had worked for 2020 and was a crowd
favorite, he pulled in many viewers and never received bad reviews, luring society into sharing his
same viewpoints. In an interview with John Stossel titled, Dealing with Media Bias, Bernard
Goldberg breaks down the reasoning as to why the media is considered to be biased. Goldberg says
in the interview that the reason behind media–related bias is due to the fact that truths may be told
that the media may not want to deal with, thus, avoiding conversation. This just goes to show that
professionals are actively knowledgeable about the bias which is being projected into the media
and will do whatever it takes to keep one side of the story hidden. If one side of a story doesn't
match up with what a news source is displaying to the public, it simply gets left out all because
the source may not have a way to defend itself when the public becomes curious of potentially
excluded factors. Bias in the media is inevitable, every news source is going to have its own
opinion on a topic and as a society the only thing that can be done to properly choose one's stance
on an idea is to further investigate which source provides the most accurate and credible

Essay on Advertising Through Social Media
In today's business world, social media is being discussed on a daily basis. This phenomenon has
taken over the marketing and advertising industries and has changed the way they handle their
efforts to attract customers. There is a big misunderstanding that social media are only popular
networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, but as defined by the Merriam–Webster dictionary,
social media are "forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and micro
blogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal
messages, and other content (as videos)." The rise of these online communities has given companies
an opportunity to engage in conversations with their customers. This in...show more content...
The combination of these social networking efforts resulted in approximately 2,000 Facebook
fans and 15,000 views on YouTube. Within a couple of weeks Toyota experienced an increase in
sales, especially in their Sienna model (Taylor, 258). Toyota is a clear example of a company
facing both a financial and reputation crisis that with the help of social media was able to regain
some of their lost sales as well as their trust amongst its costumers. Clearly social media can have a
direct impact on consumer purchasing patterns, and it has increased the amount of online shopping
for several companies. Authors Chung and Austria examine in their article Social Media
Gratification and Attitude towards Social Media marketing Messages, the effect that this
phenomenon has had on online shopping value: "According to the "2010 Social Media Report"
from ForeSee results, 69% of online shoppers use social media. Fifty–six percent of shoppers
indicate that they visit e–retail websites on a social networking site and that website visiting affects
consumer purchase intention" (?). Costumers find it convenient to visit a company's Website after
seeing an ad in any popular social networking site. It requires minimal effort form the customer and
it signifies an important portion of sales to a company. However, Social Media has not only had a
positive financial impact on a company, but as it rapidly grows it has now

Informative Essay On Social Media
People begin to connect more and more every day with the power of social media. Whether
someone is thousands of miles away or a few blocks from your house there is the possibility of
finding them on social media. The question is, with all the connecting possible through social
media does it make us more distant to one another? With today's youth, social media begins to
take over one's life and become their main source of interacting. Social media is possibly one of
the best and worst creations in the modern world but the cons definitely triumph over the pros.
Social media can be too informative at times. Suppose you were looking for a job and applied but
the chances of ever being hired were ruined because of what you post online. The fact that one
can be chosen to be looked up and be reviewed on based on their beliefs. For example "someone
applying to become the new head of a science department. The applicant had attended conferences
on creationism and posted notes online. Someone from the steering committee saw them and
voiced concerns and the applicant was turned down" (Fox 7). It creates a mindset of having to
second guess what you post due to the possibility of it affecting you in the future. Even if you do
get hired getting passed the screening there is still the employer's awareness to posts that you may
have to take into consideration. There is a chance of being terminated if you were to post something
the employee may deem notable to consider letting you go. However

SUMMARY
For any Library today, reaching out to its audience is very important and especially for those
libraries in remote areas. This is simply because of the number of resources and alternatives that have
grown in recent past which might question the survival of small libraries in remote places. The
advancement in technologies have changed the way people search for the information and they are
always in look out for the resources that give the information faster. So, the usage of social media in
current generation has become mandatory for all the libraries. This would enable them to share the

It is also very important if they use a theme color on every post. The theme should usually be the

important information is easily found on the post, avoiding too much information, not using
outdated graphics. Along with these it is also suggested to use the images and organize them very
creatively in the posts. For posting the content within minutes, the social media team should
pre–design few templates and use them when needed. We all know how people are depending
upon the social media as a source for the news. According to the latest surveys 45% of news
people get from social media are from Facebook. This shows how big a role it can play in
promoting your library. Having a good Facebook profile and making sure all the offers, events
and pictures posted and make public will be a great advantage to any library. This will enable
every person to be able to see what exactly will be happening and what he can get by reaching out
to that library. Sometimes, the libraries also should be investing in creating sponsored posts that
would increase their reach. It is also found out that major part of people who use social–media to
socialize with their friends are students and so the academic libraries are looking forward to creating
interest among the students by promoting themselves on this platform. Even in the webinar I

Media and Society Does society influence media or does media influence society? In a modern
world, dependent on continuous communication this is a very important question. If the world
were not dependent on communication over large distances, schooling on a mass basis would not

An average reader loves a good scandal, especially something to do with anyone in the public eye
regularly, for instance: royalty, popstars, footballers and film stars. What society wants to read
about is their private life and just how they live, and this puts pressure on the media to travel
further to gather stories. An increase in the "paparazzi" has led to a great deal of pressure being
put on the rich and famous, with every detail of their private life being examined, all for the sake
of a story that will satisfy society. On the other hand, it cannot be doubted that media influences
people's attitudes and outlooks by conveying a variety of information which is acquired from
newspapers, books, television, films, recorded music, magazines, showing how wide and dense the
structure of today's media is. 'Recreational' media such as newspapers and television have great
bearing on society. Not because the media control popular opinion, but because this media is the
source of information on which the public feel qualified to pass moral judgement and decisions.

Social Media has changed the way we look at the world now–a–days. People have become obsessed

new social media apps have become more relevant and very popular. Teens and young adults are
the reason why social media is very popular because now people can communicate with families
from different countries or talk and make new friends through social media. There are three types of
Social Medias that affected communication. The first social media app that I will be talking about,
that has effected people lives and the way people communicate now–a–days, is Snapchat. Snapchat
is an app that allows people to communicate with others through pictures and videos. Snapchat has
become a very popular app that has changed the way teens and adults communicate with others.
Elyse Betters explains that "Snapchat is a fun messaging app. You can capture a photo or brief
video with it, then add a caption or doodle or filter/lens over top, and send the finished creation
(called a snap) to a friend." (Pocket–Lint). People can communicate with anyone around the world
through pictures and videos. The way Snapchat has effected people in a good way is that you can
stay connected with the world. Snapchat provided its users with news, gossip, and entertainment
through the main page of Snapchat. Snapchat has different types of stories that businesses or news
networks post on snapchat so that the users are

Essay on The News Media
The News Media Being "objective" has been an unrealistic ethic that defines the news media. Fallows
agues that journalism and the news has provided largely "entertainment fluff" and has virtually
selected unthinking news communicated to the American people; and Paenti agrees and states that
the Media is big business and therefore is not independent, objective, neutral, informative, balanced,
and truthful. Their ideas may seem outlandish and farfetched, but it is the fact of life for the media
today. The news media struggles to please every component of the business, from the advertisers to
the owners. In turn, every word that is typed or spoken has one side of the story. The news shows

opportunity to ask questions that concern people's lives the media would rather talk about only
the tactics of politics, barely skimming the surface of the real important issues that affects
common peoples lives. The news media, to many Americans, is a source of impartiality and a way
to hear both sides of the story. Contrary to those popular beliefs, personal beliefs and economic
interests do not only persuade the news media. Fallows gives many examples of public icons that
have stated facts that had hidden agendas. The first example I will use, that Fallows brings up an
event that happened in May 1995. A man named George Will wrote a column and made on–air
comments scorning President Clinton and his administration for planning to place tariffs on
Japanese cars focusing on the Lexus. On the Brinkley show Will said that the tariffs would be
"illegal" and would amount to "a subsidy for Mercedes dealerships". Fallows goes on to say,

Purpose of Media Media is the means of communicating news and information to the public via
printed and visual media. In contemporary society media is an essential way to advertise a product
to its target audience, as it be seen by a wider range of people and it's more reliable as you are
guaranteed the audience will be able to view it. Printed media can be seen in leaflets and brochures

reserved adults are not interested in a humorous brochure as they care not for the brochure

The use of presentational devices in the Club 18–30 brochure reinforces the sense of security and

The Role of Media in the Society Essay
The Role of Media in the Society
Media has always played a huge role in our society. For a long time media was one of the methods
of controlling people and leisure. In ancient times when there was no newspapers and television,
people used literature as source of information, some books like "the Iliad", and different stories
about great kings, shows those people the information about them. Nowadays media is one of the
main part of our lives and our society, because we use word media, to combine all sources of
information. Average man is spending 4 hours a day on watching TV and reading newspapers.
There're a lot of different types of information sources, all of them are specific and dedicated for

There are two types of newspapers – Broadsheets and Tabloids. Broadsheet newspapers are targeted
at those who like more realistic approaches to news. Their articles focus more on including political
and foreign items. However their publication is less popular than the tabloids. Tabloid newspapers
are aimed at people who are just expecting amusement from newspaper. Although they do cover
some news, they tend to contain more gossip, personality issues, shorter articles and more
pictures than text. Moreover they often refuse and neglect the idea of publishing political and
foreign news. Also the newspapers are mostly bias in their view on what happened. For example
in our country 90 percent of newspapers are belong to government or to some rich people who
still depends on government, so most of them are writing those things that are good for
government. As for me I like broadsheets more because there are only useful facts and no silly
stories and pictures. In such country like Kazakhstan where, like I said before most of the media
are controlling by the government, we need to spend our time and to read a lot of different
newspapers so we can get full information from different points of view, I like newspapers which are
belong to opposition parties.

Essay about Reflection on the media
"So many of the pictures we see are artificial, manufactured images. What happens when a girl or
woman compares her real self with this narrow, unreal image of "perfection"?" (SB 127).
Advertisers constantly use unrealistic models, male or female, to sell their products. These
techniques target people's self esteem, and plants false images of perfection in society's mind. The
media's techniques lower people's self esteem and damages their self image.
I don't agree with the techniques the media uses. They make young girls and women feel insecure
about flaws that don't exist. "The Price of
Happiness: Advertising and Image" says,"Researchers have found that girls and women who work
as models weigh 23% less than the...show more content...

listen to music or watch Netflix. What i've listed is barely half of my actual interaction with the
media on a daily basis. This goes to show that the media plays a big part in my life and others.
The problems found in the media can't be solved easily. "Ads tend to convey the idea that
appearance is allВimportant. They teach us to be selfВconscious about how we look" (SB 128) To
grow up being taught to be selfВconscious is tough. People should be able to go about their lives
without constantly being concerned about how they look. A simple solution to any problem about
self image through the media is to address the fact that everyone is beautiful in their own way.
Promote loving yourself the way you are instead of influencing others to change for others. Have
the media come together and agree that it is perfectly acceptable to teach others and influence them
to be happy with who they are. All the problems addressed in the media cant't and won't be solved
easily but it takes the first step of people to at least try.
The media's techniques lower people's self esteem and damages their self image. All the lies and
false images have impacted our society negatively in many ways. From increasing numbers of
females with eating disorders , to our society being accustomed to being selfВconscious, the media
needs to change dramatically. If the media were to use

  • 1. Dangers And Long-Term Effects Of Tanning Media Analysis 'Media' is the plural of the word 'medium', which often refers to different ways of communicating with other people; if the target is a large number of people, then it is called 'mass media'. There are many types of media, such as TV, radio, films, newspaper, Internet etc. The main purpose of media is to entertain; however they can also be used to persuade, inform, explain and advice. Media can be very powerful; therefore people are influenced and affected by them. The two articles we have looked at for analysis have a common theme – both talks about the dangers and long–term effects of tanning. The first article is from The Big Issues and the second is from Derby Evening...show more content... The two texts have been written with different intentions and they both have specific target audiences. The first text, 'Sun Vampires' from The Big Issue, has been written to inform the readers of the dangers and long–term effects of tanning. Other purposes include: to ridicule the 'tanorexics', to advice people about the proper method of tanning and to warn those who are beginning to go on the sunbeds. The main target audience of this article is the younger generations of the society who are more likely to get addicted to tanning on sunbeds. Nevertheless to some extent, the authorial intent is to entertain and titillate leisurely readers who are looking for something to amuse the mind. In order to achieve the purpose and communicate the ideas to the readership, the writer uses vernacular language such as 'fork out', 'one hell of a habit' and 'let's face it', and modern names, e.g. Peter Andre and Bros – these techniques appeal greatly to the young people and therefore convey the message more effectively. The writer also grabs the attention of casual readers by using a light–hearted tone– as a result of this, the reader wouldn't be too shocked or frightened, thus willing to buy another copy of the magazine in the future. The second text, 'Face the fact – the sun is a real danger', from Derby Evening Telegraph (DET), have similar purposes to the 'Sun Vampires': to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Effect of Media and Mass Communication Essay The media is a powerful presence within the lives of others. It can be described as the main channel of mass communication. Media is often used to deliver a message to a large audience who are diverse. It can be written, broadcast or spoken. Media is a significant force within modern culture. Culture can be defined as the norms and values of a society. In our culture, the communications media hold an influential place in disseminating information, forming attitudes, and motivating behaviour. Technological advances are increasing the role of the media and its capacity to shape public opinion. Our society depends on the news media to provide information to help us form opinions and make voting decisions. It is clear the media has a huge...show more content... It was cheaper and made large scale distribution possible. These technology advances allowed the medium to enter popular culture and enhancing its influence within society [McLuhan, 1962]. By the nineteen twenties, mass media became known not only for print media, but radio and television also. Television provided both information and entertainment which became very popular. It was considered easier than actively reading. In recent times, mass media has taken on a different form; the internet. It is now the most popular form of mass media. Not only has the internet become a sensation but mobile phones, blogs and podcasts have all become the new forms of mass media within our modern culture. The media is easily accessed and waiting for us at the touch of a button. As a result, our culture is enormously influenced by the media. In this essay I will be discussing the media and deviance and the effects it has on our culture. One theory that was formed during this investigation was the cumulative effects model [Elisabeth Noelle–Neumann, 1974]. This complex theory looks at the potential affects media has on an individual with an active media consumption. This theory focuses on the agenda setting function in which the media acts upon. The media cannot force an individual to think a certain way. However it does have the power to control what the individual thinks about. If an issue is frequently in the media, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay on Crime and the Media Crime and the Media The public depends on the news media for its understanding of crime. Reportedly three quarters (76%) of the public say, they form their opinions about crime from what they see or read in the news (Dorfman & Schiraldi, 2001). After reviewing five hours of reality crime television shows, one is left with a very dismal look on society and a prejudice towards minorities as they are largely depicted as the perpetrators of crime. This new genre commonly referred to as reality television appears to be sweeping the nation by storm. The suspect, heard on camera being questioned about his past domestic violence charges, his inability to pay child support and finally he is asked about the observed drug purchase. Of the nineteen cases reviewed, drug related crimes were more prevalent. In cases involving African American suspects, the drug of choice was crack cocaine. In suspects that were Caucasian, the drug of choice was methamphetamines. On the episode aired on May 5, 2005, COPS: Bad Girls, the suspect, a Caucasian woman was selling drugs and prostituting (Langley, 2005). With the cameras rolling, the audience is able to overhear, that the suspect is on welfare and has had her children taken away because of her drug habit. The suspect denies the charges, and the officer insists on making the point that she is using her welfare money in order to purchase drugs. In the cases reviewed, the program did not divulge the age. Upon observation, the average estimated age is twenty–five. Age did not appear to have any particular correlation to the type of criminal activity. What appeared to be more in play was the socioeconomic scale of the suspects. The average age and circumstances seem to strike a familiar vein with the cases reviewed. On average, the suspects were unemployed, residing with a family member, a history of violence and drug use. This Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As a result of society's heavy reliance on technology, social media has become popular amongst people who are "technologically advanced." Though there is a wide variety of social sites that can be accessed through modern day technology, a few have become very popular. Social sites which have become widely popular among teens include Instagram, Tumblr, and Snapchat. These social networking sites provide instant social connection and emotional support while letting teens post and send pictures of their everyday life. Instagram Features their most liked pictures in a tab on their app. In reality, the "Featured" tab on Instagram is for people who've obtained a high reputation in the social scene. These "Instagram Famous" individuals force people to want to attain more followers and 'likes' on their photos. The majority of teens use social media in order to measure their popularity against others. A popular trend called 'selfies' are now arising amongst teens. According to Victoria Woollaston, a science and tech reporter at Daily Mail, "The new craze, which involves posing by yourself before taking a picture, has risen in popularity, with over one million selfies taken every day". Teens measure their self–worth by posting their 'selfies' on Instagram. There becomes a constant battle as to who can get more 'likes' and comments on a picture. Victoria Woollaston also states that, "The majority of teens post the photos in search of assurance and compliments, but they are making themselves vulnerable to negative comments and abuse". In search for attention teens do not realize that they are bringing down their self– esteem. Most teens are likely to delete a photo if it doesn't get as many 'likes' as they would want or if they were to receive a negative comment on a photo. Today's teens are now making it easier to get bullied through social apps. In many cases teens often bully themselves. There is a constant battle Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On The Media My previous experience with this topic of media always trying to persuade you, well I do have never really thought about it like that. I have read the book, The Hunger Games, and seen the movie. I have never put any thought in how the media persuades them and controls their society. For me, the book and movie were very entertaining. Action packed and attention grabbing, you never wanted to look away or put the book down because you never knew what was going to happen next. For the next 2 hours, or however long it takes you to finish the book, you put yourself in the shoes of someone else's life. The main point of this article is how the media is always trying to persuade you. Even when you think you are just being informed, whoever is informing you has an opinion of that topic. That person's opinion of the subject has to do with feelings and "feelings are often times much more powerful than fact" (Page 2). Knowing that feelings are more powerful than fact, the media tries to inject fear. The reason behind injecting fear is to persuade you to think what they think. We might leave in a country full of freedom's, but "we still manage to be molded by a medium that we have no control over" (Page 3). We learn about what is going on in the world by what we see in the mass media. We are not over in Iran, we only know what is being told to us. We could have a different view from what the media tells us, if we saw it in person and knew what they were going through. The media just gives us enough information to be persuaded to what they want us to think. I think the point is worth making, have people start thinking more in depth about what they are being told. Have them thinking about what are they leaving out and why. My reaction to this article is mind–blowing. I think she did a great job proving her point. Every time she made another point, it got me thinking and seeing what she was saying. When she talked about how "it is just a movie... but it is also manipulation" really struck me and made me think. While watching movies, sometimes we laugh or sometimes we cry, but have you ever really thought about it. The producer plays sad music to arouse a sad feeling, the main point of that is to show that they can manipulate Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Social Media And Sociology Essay Social Media and Sociology Berlirce Chetgna In this modern age, the majority of society has adapted to social media and the newest technology to fit around our lives. Technology provides tools that are imperative to the making and the use of other tools. It is a tool in itself. Technology is changing rapidly; so rapidly, in fact, there can be cultural gaps between generations. The construction of social media has enabled access to innovative phenomenon, broken barriers, changed our perspectives on ideas, and has even opened doors to new opportunities. Television, movies, songs, and social media are the cultured lenses in which we view the world. What we perceive through a screen can change where we stand on certain topics; for example, gender messages and body images. Mass media not only reflects gender stereotypes but also plays a role in changing them. Females used to be portrayed as less brave and more dependent. Now there are strong, independent female characters like Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games and intelligent, brave female characters like Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. Like women's changing positions in society, more aggressive and dominant females are being featured. Mass media molds new stereotypes but not all the ideas that are communicated are positive. Mass media is effective in teaching us what we "should" look like. Women should be thin. Men should be muscular. The skinny and muscular ideals portrayed in advertising encourage men and women to look a certain way. The depiction of the female ideal has helped shaped society's perspectives about beauty. The media pushes you to "improve your body" by buying their products but soon the road to a skinny and toned body leads to a self destructive path of self hatred. The powerful ideas that the media transmits through words, images, and movement can have lasting impacts on the human brain, affecting how we think and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Essay on The Media and Its Responsibilities The Media and Its Responsibilities SOC 120 Introduction to Ethics & Social Responsibility The media has become a major factor of our times and the influence it has on people young and old. You would think that the world has enough influence all around them during their everyday lives and then we come home and turn on our televisions, pick up a newspaper, a magazine, or even the computer and it is all right there. Over the years the media has been more open and I believe that has a lot to do with the growing of our minds and our children's minds and they are just trying to keep up and keep people interested even though it may be a little risky to show no matter what station it is on. A lot of the reality shows we watch today are taped and we do not even see everything that leads up to the main parts that they show us to get our attention. To boost their ratings and to make money off of the people that are unknown other than the shows they are being advertise on that are making money off their every move. In the media world that is what it is all about; finding the showstopper and giving them the most attention from what they do and say to draw attention as far as viewers, readers, and now and days most commonly bloggers that are watching their every move. At the end of the day that is what it is all about, making money off a lot of nonsense. The observations we make by watching, reading, and listening to media can make or break our perspectives of the world as we know it. • 8. Media And Media The mass media is an important factor when it comes to getting a message across to the public. No specific community can do without media as it is a crucial element to society. The media helps provide individuals things that they need the most, that being information. Sometimes this information is considered injurious and appalling, whereas other times it normal. The messages that are taken from the media are based off of one's own faith and knowledge, in accordance to the reinforcement theory (Jetter, 2017). The reinforcement theory argues that you can change someone's perspective or behavior by using reinforcement, punishment and extinction. Punishments are used to avoid the behavior you do, rewards are used to support the behavior you want and lastly extinction represents stopping an individual from acting upon a learned behavior. Although terrorism cannot be defined in one specific definition, it can be depicted as the use of violence against innocent individuals to bring political change through the means of fear . Majority of the time, terrorist attacks are often not directly intended for an exact individual, rather, are done to convey a memorandum (Altheide, 2007). This can potentially signify that the media paying a large amount of attention to terrorist organizations, may further encourage them to continue their violence. Some may be more bias against a group or idea, while others keep a strict, non bias view. The way the media portrays events may change or even corrupt people's thoughts on certain public matters. This paper will dissect four articles on the Woodstock riots and show the relationships and differences between them. On a Sunday night, near the closing song of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, there were a few bonfires were reported. The firefighters, feeling they were under control, let these bonfires burn. (Pg. 1 para. 7) Another similar quote by an unknown person, Oh man they must of run out of drugs, (page 1 & 2) struck the author so much that he made it the title. Facts may be different or changed up to help exaggerate the authors' or companies' view points in the articles, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock 'n' Roll? and Woodstock Gets Ugly. In the article, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock 'n' Roll? the author spends the majority of his writing comparing the past two Woodstocks to the current one, barely touching on the subject of the riot. The article only stated what happened and the fact that the blame should be placed on the band, Limp Bizkit. The band was said to have urged the audience to break stuff. In the other article, Woodstock Gets Ugly, it is said that placing one hard–core band after another could be a mistake and may be the cause of the riots, or other happening, to be placed on the organizers of the event, the bands or the audience. This shows how the companies' or authors' views can be bias against certain groups or ideas by placing the blame on a single band, but a non bias paper places the blame all around. • 10. Argumentative Essay On News Media News media serves as the main source of information for people in most nations, regardless of the kind of government or democracy in place. Since humans take decisions and function based on the kind of information they have, the importance of information flow cannot be overemphasised. Governments, well aware of the role and power of the news media to influence the populace, place a high premium on, and will go to great lengths to align the available news media to serve their purpose. This goes for the whole spectrum on governance, from democratic to autocratic. Observing the origins of conflict globally over years, especially civil wars which is a great threat to human security, information available from news media has been a key motivation or driver. The 1994 Rwandan genocide is an example of how information access interphases with national security negatively to create chaos. The government of the day used state owned media to pitch the Tutsi's and Hutu's against each other, while the world watched. Democratic governments do not necessarily guarantee press freedom and human rights, and autocracies stifle the same as we may want to think, if taken at face value. Many democratic governments basically run the state owned news media and dictate their output, which begs the question what is the minimum level of democracy and what exactly makes media "free". • 11. Essay On Media Bias The media has developed its own way of captivating viewers' attention, and more importantly opinions, by frequently using an excessive amount of bias. The term bias means to feel or show inclination or prejudice for or against someone or something. Bias is not only tied to people, it is tied to opinions as well. It is common to see media sources stating its opinion on a topic, persuasion into believing the same details as the media, is its equivalent. The media is notoriously known to only show the public what should be seen. News stories are aired night after night in which only a portion of the story is being told, initially leading viewers to believe the same thing as the news sources. By implementing the use of bias, the public has developed...show more content... John Stossel is a mainstream media journalist who was fired from his job after stating that the media contained bias and that he is a Libertarian. Stossel had worked for 2020 and was a crowd favorite, he pulled in many viewers and never received bad reviews, luring society into sharing his same viewpoints. In an interview with John Stossel titled, Dealing with Media Bias, Bernard Goldberg breaks down the reasoning as to why the media is considered to be biased. Goldberg says in the interview that the reason behind media–related bias is due to the fact that truths may be told that the media may not want to deal with, thus, avoiding conversation. This just goes to show that professionals are actively knowledgeable about the bias which is being projected into the media and will do whatever it takes to keep one side of the story hidden. If one side of a story doesn't match up with what a news source is displaying to the public, it simply gets left out all because the source may not have a way to defend itself when the public becomes curious of potentially excluded factors. Bias in the media is inevitable, every news source is going to have its own opinion on a topic and as a society the only thing that can be done to properly choose one's stance on an idea is to further investigate which source provides the most accurate and credible Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This phenomenon has taken over the marketing and advertising industries and has changed the way they handle their efforts to attract customers. Toyota is a clear example of a company facing both a financial and reputation crisis that with the help of social media was able to regain some of their lost sales as well as their trust amongst its costumers. Clearly social media can have a direct impact on consumer purchasing patterns, and it has increased the amount of online shopping for several companies. Authors Chung and Austria examine in their article Social Media Gratification and Attitude towards Social Media marketing Messages, the effect that this phenomenon has had on online shopping value: "According to the "2010 Social Media Report" from ForeSee results, 69% of online shoppers use social media. Fifty–six percent of shoppers indicate that they visit e–retail websites on a social networking site and that website visiting affects consumer purchase intention" (?). Costumers find it convenient to visit a company's Website after seeing an ad in any popular social networking site. It requires minimal effort form the customer and it signifies an important portion of sales to a company. However, Social Media has not only had a positive financial impact on a company, but as it rapidly grows it has now Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Informative Essay On Social Media People begin to connect more and more every day with the power of social media. Whether someone is thousands of miles away or a few blocks from your house there is the possibility of finding them on social media. The question is, with all the connecting possible through social media does it make us more distant to one another? With today's youth, social media begins to take over one's life and become their main source of interacting. Social media is possibly one of the best and worst creations in the modern world but the cons definitely triumph over the pros. Social media can be too informative at times. Suppose you were looking for a job and applied but the chances of ever being hired were ruined because of what you post online. The fact that one can be chosen to be looked up and be reviewed on based on their beliefs. For example "someone applying to become the new head of a science department. The applicant had attended conferences on creationism and posted notes online. Someone from the steering committee saw them and voiced concerns and the applicant was turned down" (Fox 7). It creates a mindset of having to second guess what you post due to the possibility of it affecting you in the future. Even if you do get hired getting passed the screening there is still the employer's awareness to posts that you may have to take into consideration. There is a chance of being terminated if you were to post something the employee may deem notable to consider letting you go. However Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay On Media Management SUMMARY For any Library today, reaching out to its audience is very important and especially for those libraries in remote areas. The advancement in technologies have changed the way people search for the information and they are always in look out for the resources that give the information faster. Along with these it is also suggested to use the images and organize them very creatively in the posts. • 15. Media and Society Essay Media and Society Does society influence media or does media influence society? In a modern world, dependent on continuous communication this is a very important question. If the world were not dependent on communication over large distances, schooling on a mass basis would not be possible or necessary. Most knowledge in traditional cultures was local knowledge, (Geertz 1983) traditions that were passed on through a local community, a very slow and long drawn out process. Today we live in the "Whole World" in a way that would have been inconceivable to anyone who lived before the 19th century. An average reader loves a good scandal, especially something to do with anyone in the public eye regularly, for instance: royalty, popstars, footballers and film stars. What society wants to read about is their private life and just how they live, and this puts pressure on the media to travel further to gather stories. An increase in the "paparazzi" has led to a great deal of pressure being put on the rich and famous, with every detail of their private life being examined, all for the sake of a story that will satisfy society. On the other hand, it cannot be doubted that media influences people's attitudes and outlooks by conveying a variety of information which is acquired from newspapers, books, television, films, recorded music, magazines, showing how wide and dense the structure of today's media is. 'Recreational' media such as newspapers and television have great bearing on society. Not because the media control popular opinion, but because this media is the source of information on which the public feel qualified to pass moral judgement and decisions. Television is a big business, with incredible influence. It is probably the single most important device in the last thirty years of media. It affects children as they are growing through their formative years, and their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Informative Essay On Social Media Social Media has changed the way we look at the world now–a–days. People have become obsessed with post or looking others post on Social media. Ever since the smartphone has been released, new social media apps have become more relevant and very popular. Teens and young adults are the reason why social media is very popular because now people can communicate with families from different countries or talk and make new friends through social media. There are three types of Social Medias that affected communication. The first social media app that I will be talking about, that has effected people lives and the way people communicate now–a–days, is Snapchat. Snapchat is an app that allows people to communicate with others through pictures and videos. Snapchat has become a very popular app that has changed the way teens and adults communicate with others. Elyse Betters explains that "Snapchat is a fun messaging app. You can capture a photo or brief video with it, then add a caption or doodle or filter/lens over top, and send the finished creation (called a snap) to a friend." (Pocket–Lint). People can communicate with anyone around the world through pictures and videos. The way Snapchat has effected people in a good way is that you can stay connected with the world. Snapchat provided its users with news, gossip, and entertainment through the main page of Snapchat. Snapchat has different types of stories that businesses or news networks post on snapchat so that the users are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay on The News Media The News Media Being "objective" has been an unrealistic ethic that defines the news media. Fallows agues that journalism and the news has provided largely "entertainment fluff" and has virtually selected unthinking news communicated to the American people; and Paenti agrees and states that the Media is big business and therefore is not independent, objective, neutral, informative, balanced, and truthful. Their ideas may seem outlandish and farfetched, but it is the fact of life for the media today. The news media struggles to please every component of the business, from the advertisers to the owners. In turn, every word that is typed or spoken has one side of the story. The news shows that air on television today is nothing. but...show more content... None of those questions were ever answered. Fallows notes that, "There was no overlap whatsoever between the questions the students asked and those raised by the anchors. None of the questions from these news professionals concerned the impact that legislation or politics on people's lives (Fallows 22)." Fallows goes on to say "...the questions concerned the pure game of–– the struggle among candidates interest mainly in their own advancement (Fallows 23)." Even with the opportunity to ask questions that concern people's lives the media would rather talk about only the tactics of politics, barely skimming the surface of the real important issues that affects common peoples lives. The news media, to many Americans, is a source of impartiality and a way to hear both sides of the story. Contrary to those popular beliefs, personal beliefs and economic interests do not only persuade the news media. Fallows gives many examples of public icons that have stated facts that had hidden agendas. The first example I will use, that Fallows brings up an event that happened in May 1995. A man named George Will wrote a column and made on–air comments scorning President Clinton and his administration for planning to place tariffs on Japanese cars focusing on the Lexus. On the Brinkley show Will said that the tariffs would be "illegal" and would amount to "a subsidy for Mercedes dealerships". Fallows goes on to say, "Neither in his column nor on the show Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In contemporary society media is an essential way to advertise a product to its target audience, as it be seen by a wider range of people and it's more reliable as you are guaranteed the audience will be able to view it. The brochure appeals to this specific type of audience since mature reserved adults are not interested in a humorous brochure as they care not for the brochure appearance, this is shown in the brochure's text layout and organisation as most young people in a contemporary society will find the brochure dull and tiresome. The use of presentational devices in the Club 18–30 brochure reinforces the sense of security and authenticity, as shown by the logo of the brochure, which informs the audience that the club is an established company. Furthermore the logo specifies its target audience and uses eye–catching colours reflecting the sun and sea to entice the reader to continue reading the brochure. Equally the picture attracts the target audience in a similar way as it enhances the sense of reliability and assurance, which is shown by the way the people in the picture are presented as enjoying themselves. • 19. The Role of Media in the Society Essay The Role of Media in the Society Media has always played a huge role in our society. For a long time media was one of the methods of controlling people and leisure. In ancient times when there was no newspapers and television, people used literature as source of information, some books like "the Iliad", and different stories about great kings, shows those people the information about them. Nowadays media is one of the main part of our lives and our society, because we use word media, to combine all sources of information. Average man is spending 4 hours a day on watching TV and reading newspapers. There're a lot of different types of information sources, all of them are specific and dedicated for ...show more content... There are two types of newspapers – Broadsheets and Tabloids. Broadsheet newspapers are targeted at those who like more realistic approaches to news. Their articles focus more on including political and foreign items. However their publication is less popular than the tabloids. Tabloid newspapers are aimed at people who are just expecting amusement from newspaper. Although they do cover some news, they tend to contain more gossip, personality issues, shorter articles and more pictures than text. Moreover they often refuse and neglect the idea of publishing political and foreign news. Also the newspapers are mostly bias in their view on what happened. For example in our country 90 percent of newspapers are belong to government or to some rich people who still depends on government, so most of them are writing those things that are good for government. As for me I like broadsheets more because there are only useful facts and no silly stories and pictures. In such country like Kazakhstan where, like I said before most of the media are controlling by the government, we need to spend our time and to read a lot of different newspapers so we can get full information from different points of view, I like newspapers which are belong to opposition parties. • 20. Essay about Reflection on the media "So many of the pictures we see are artificial, manufactured images. What happens when a girl or woman compares her real self with this narrow, unreal image of "perfection"?" (SB 127). Advertisers constantly use unrealistic models, male or female, to sell their products. These techniques target people's self esteem, and plants false images of perfection in society's mind. The media's techniques lower people's self esteem and damages their self image. I don't agree with the techniques the media uses. They make young girls and women feel insecure about flaws that don't exist. After school I always listen to music or watch Netflix. What i've listed is barely half of my actual interaction with the media on a daily basis. This goes to show that the media plays a big part in my life and others. The problems found in the media can't be solved easily. "Ads tend to convey the idea that appearance is allВimportant. They teach us to be selfВconscious about how we look" (SB 128) To grow up being taught to be selfВconscious is tough. People should be able to go about their lives without constantly being concerned about how they look. A simple solution to any problem about self image through the media is to address the fact that everyone is beautiful in their own way. Promote loving yourself the way you are instead of influencing others to change for others. Have the media come together and agree that it is perfectly acceptable to teach others and influence them to be happy with who they are. All the problems addressed in the media cant't and won't be solved easily but it takes the first step of people to at least try. The media's techniques lower people's self esteem and damages their self image. All the lies and false images have impacted our society negatively in many ways. From increasing numbers of females with eating disorders , to our society being accustomed to being selfВconscious, the media needs to change dramatically.
