“Well, most users will have 3D touch by the next iPhone”
“I doubt many visually impaired people even use our product anyway”
“Sarah didn’t say anything during our meeting so she doesn’t seem to have an opinion on the architecture design”
“Don’t worry, users will get it once they use it”
As developers, we make assumptions every day. However, as Alan Alda stated “Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won't come in.” Whether it is about your users or your teammates, our perceived thoughts drive how we approach software development - for better or worse. This talk will walk through some of the most common assumptions iOS engineers encounter and discuss ways we can learn to think more inclusively when it comes to both feature and app development, as well as within our own teams. We’ll also cover some strategies on how to keep an open mind when approaching these kinds of topics.
What I want to buy: Pinterest. What I've already bought: Instagram. Serendipitous scrolling is just the beginning. There's a lot to learn from what people are shopping for, have already bought, and are sharing throughout the process.

How can you work like a pro with some (or all) the new APIs and services... Here are some good starting points to follow.
you know databases, how hard can MySQL be?sarahnovotny
DBAs everywhere are being asked to support MySQL as a less costly alternative in Oracle's portfolio. Rest assured, (almost) everything you know about Oracle can be translated and applied to supporting MySQL with some new vocabulary and some smart starting points.
This talk will touch on 5 things that are helpful to get right from the beginning. Through anecdotes i'll spotlight some common pitfalls, share paths to a fix If you've inherited a running system and offer a vocabulary lesson so those who speak Oracle can start understanding MySQL. I'll be touching on user management and security, backups and replicas, monitoring, storage engine choices, and probably monitoring again (because it is that important).
An overview of Board Director composition for the Top 80 (by Market Cap Value) Georgia-based publicly traded companies. Six criteria are used to understand the true diversity of a board: Demographic (gender and ethnicity), Career Background, Undergraduate Degree, Age, Length of Board Service, and Other Public Board Service. The 80 companies are reviewed as a group, by Market Cap Value subgroups, and individually.
Conclusions about these companies and general recommendations on how these Georgia-based companies can improve their diversity are included with this report. Public companies in other industrial sectors and geographies can use this data to review their own board diversity.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

With each of the past 3 Ruby releases, YJIT has delivered higher and higher performance. However, we are seeing diminishing returns, because as JIT-compiled code becomes faster, it makes up less and less of the total execution time, which is now becoming dominated by C function calls. As such, it may appear like there is a fundamental limit to Ruby’s performance.
In the first half of the 20th century, some early airplane designers thought that the speed of sound was a fundamental limit on the speed reachable by airplanes, thus coining the term “sound barrier”. This limit was eventually overcome, as it became understood that airflow behaves differently at supersonic speeds.
In order to break the Ruby performance barrier, it will be necessary to reduce the dependency on C extensions, and start writing more gems in pure Ruby code. In this talk, I want to look at this problem more in depth, and explore how YJIT can help enable writing pure-Ruby software that delivers high performance levels.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
5. what?
• Microblogging? What does that actually mean?
• In a nutshell: it means you have room for 140
characters per message.
6. why again?
