My TV Game Show – Sharpest Tool in The Shed
My TV game show will be a celebrity panel show, and it will have a comedic and academic
theme as well. The show’s host will be the comedian, actor and director Richard Ayoade. I
have chosen him to be my host, because he is already a well-known comedian and also
regularly takes part on celebrity panel shows like mine (The Big Fat Quiz of The Year, 8 Out
of 10 Cats etc.) This will mean that he will already have a fan base and the audience of the
other shows will be more inclined to watch this show. In the show, there will be two teams
of 3 with the same team captains each week (David Mitchell and Noel Fielding). I have
chosen to use David Mitchell for similar reason as Ayoade. With the addition of Noel
Fielding, it offers a contrast in the characteristics – Fielding is much more quirky and
relatable, in comparison to Ayoade and Mitchell (who can be slightly awkward and nerdy).
This will make the show much more engaging, as there will be different opinions
throughout, and it won’t become tedious and repetitive. The show will run for an hour, and
there will be 6 rounds of questions. These will be: picture, team captain, film, periods in
history (the period change each week) and random quick fire. All of the rounds will have
intelligent and/or political questions, but they will also be comedic (questions can be silly,
along the comedians answering them). I’ve decided on these types of questions, because
the audience will be able to join in at home and it offers lots of different topics for lots of
different people. The 2 teams will get 1 point for each correct answer, which will then add
up to find that week’s winner. I’ve decided that there will be no prize at the end of the quiz,
as the celebrities have no need for anything superficial, and the audience and panel will only
be in it to see who’s on top (battle each week). I have decided to call my TV game show
‘Sharpest tool in The Shed’ because it is a reference to the intelligent people taking part in
the show, and the friendly competition between the celebrities (who will probably be
acquainted already) and specifically the hosts, each week. It is also very catchy, so the
audience and general public will recognise it.
