1. Fish Bowl Picture Story
There had only been one fishbowl in his life. The curved edges that distorted the world was the home he
has always known. Once, there may have been a tank in a superstore, and perhaps a plastic bag, but this
was home. His whole world was this glass container, small, yet large. The view showed a door that would
sometimes stay open, and other times remain closed for days. There was a closet that never closed, due
to the abundance of clothes spilling out over shoes and a box of old clothes that were never touched. A
single bed took up the most room, and it was the place of business and relaxation for his owner. His
owner had grown up before this fishbowl; and the lone goldfish considered him his best friend, even
though he sometimes forgot who the boy was, usually after one of his many laps around the bowl.
One day, there was a shift. The delightful goldfish pondering the light shining into his bowl noticed that
there was another bowl next to his. However, it was empty, so he wouldn’t cared about it, until the
following day that he noticed the other bowl was getting more and more attention that he was. His owner
was filling it with water, putting stones in the bottom, a fake plant here and there, while his bowl remained
empty. He didn’t want to think anything of it, but then the day he never considered came. His owner
walked through his door, holding a bag containing not one, but four goldfish, identical to him. Fear raked
through him. Was he sick without knowing it? Was he actually bel ly up without knowing it? When the new
pets were put into the water, he began to swim madly around his tank. Then, his owner reached for his
bowl, and his panic reached a high that he never knew was capable of him. He became desperate,
hoping against hope that this wasn’t going to be the end of him. He could only think of one thing to do,
and that was to jump and get into the other tank where he hoped his owner would be unable to
distinguish him for the other four, and he wouldn’t have to go away. So he jumped.
