4. Historical Background In Cambodia, there are many wars that occurred in the past and also
changed the regimes every time. Since this difficult time happened, the populations in the country
have changed all time also. Particularly, in 1970, Cambodia's population was about 7 million
persons with an annual growth rate of 2.4%. In contrast, in 1980 total population was about 6.4

The Importance Of Environmental Education
The school has been built in order to present the vision of dream big. Teresa's Icon school mainly
focus on the environmental sustainability. That has been done by bringing awareness to the people
of the U.K.The school is managed by the education department of the district council through the
school board. The school focuses on the secondary education and thus environmental education that
is taken on the grounds of the primary and secondary section of the school. The study of this
incorporates 687 students of which 327 are girls and 360 boys.
Stakeholders are comprised of students, teachers and the head of the school. Among them, 46
percent are males. The selection of the students that are presenting the classes covers from form I to
form IV in the legislation for the approval of the environmental sustainable development. The
selection of the teachers was important ,as it will result in the benefit of the class in experiencing in
the environmental education . The syllabus indicating the environmental issues and concepts are
being addressed in the subjects like–geography, biology at the secondary level of the age group 12
years. The sustainable education practice in early childhood background activities as a part of

Environment Education : Sustainability Is Environmental...
Sustainability is "environment education". Learning about the environment and how natural systems
function. It's everything that we need for our survival and wellbeing relating directly to our natural
surrounding. The changing climate effects society and communities in many ways. For example,
climate change can affect rainfall, our health, crops, and even our energy supply among other things.
Across the country and over many areas of our economy climate–related impacts are happening.
Ozone layer depletion is one of the most serious problems faced on earth. It is also one of the
reasons which are leading to global warming. Ozone is a colorless gas which is found in the
stratosphere and protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiations of the sun.
The ozone layer soaks up the harmful radiations and prevents the rays from entering the earth's
atmosphere. Ultraviolet radiations are high–energy electromagnetic waves given off by the sun
which if enters the earth's atmosphere can lead to many environmental issues including global
warming, and some health issues for all living organisms.
The greenhouse effect happens when greenhouse gases collect in the earth's atmosphere. These
gases included carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, fluorinated gases, and ozone. Greenhouse
gases let the sun's light shine onto the Earth's surface but trap the heat that reflects back up into the
atmosphere. In this way, they act like the glass walls of a greenhouse. This greenhouse effect keeps

The Social Ecological Model ( Sem )
The Social Ecological Model (SEM) was created to develop an understanding of the relationships
between an individual and their social surroundings. While many other models use narrowly
conceived frameworks, the SEM considers multiple levels of influence. At the core of the model lies
the individual, with three levels of social influence surrounding –– representing interpersonal
relationships, organizational/community influence, and governmental policy action (CDC, 2015).
Social Ecology is an all–encompassing body of work that seeks to establish theoretical frameworks
by considering the interrelations of people and their distinct environmental factors related to health
and wellness (Stokols, 1996). The SEM integrates individual approaches related to health behavior
by utilizing interventions focusing on improving the physical and social surroundings. However, the
SEM goes beyond environmental change by establishing theoretical models explaining the dynamic
connections between individuals and their social settings.
The social ecological model is derived from a multitude of research areas, but ultimately stems from
the biological relationships between organisms and their environment. As such, greater attention was
eventually brought towards developing an understanding of people and the social and cultural
constructs surrounding them (Stokols, 1996). The SEM characterizes environmental health impacts
into physical, social, and cultural dimensions, such as 'physical health status

Building Bridges for Environmentalists: The Role of Diversity in the Environmental Movement
Introduction
Environmentalism has long been accused of being a condition of the affluent – a veritable luxury of
the first world condition, despite a resounding deficiency of empirical data to support this
assumption. A number of studies countering this point of view are being disseminated, potentially
dismantling these postulations (Brechin 1999; Fairbrother 2012; Ignatow 2006; Mart'inez–Alier and
Alier 2012), though the cultural disparity explaining a wide variety of environmentalist concerns
remains difficult to explain (Brechin 1999), albeit important. Understanding commonalities, more so
than polarities, will prove invaluable as we enter an era of globalization and face increased conflict
over resource scarcity. A unified approach to solving environmental issues is imperative.
This paper will examine the social constructions of environmentalism in the context of building and
reinforcing environmental values. Kevin Archer, in Social Constructions of the Environment, states:
"Environmental issues... are considered... combined social and natural phenomena, neither wholly
natural nor wholly social in origin or substance. Thus, environmental issues, problems and
conditions should be studied as such if they are to be successfully identified, analyzed and resolved"
(2012:1). This paper seeks to examine more thoroughly this concept of

Environmental Education At David Fleay 's Wildlife Park Essay
Today was the first day of our applied theatre project for environmental education at David Fleay's
Wildlife Park. We started the day by getting into costumes and roaming around the park. Originally
this was done in pairs, but seeing the amount of people that actually came to the park we decided
that going as a group of all four of us would be the most beneficial, as we didn't want to see the
same people twice. As it was our first day we were all a bit nervous, but Afri and Georgia's
engagement with the children at the park was successful, they were taught the "secret call" of
"Coowee!" and they enjoyed the animals being there. Next time, the animals could engage more and
be more present in this activity. Next was the performance. The performance went exceptionally
well, and the audience of around fifteen children (and their parents) were engaged and participating
the entire time. Though, due to this the performance ran longer than expected and we were unable to
do the "eco Hero Pledge". We also underestimated the amount of people that would be there, and it
was hard for one person to hand out all the Eco Hero badges, and so next time I will be assisting
Lydia with handing those out. The workshop also went really well, we had lots of the participants
come in and create Bilby ears with us and it was a lot of fun. As a facilitator I felt my own personal
interaction with the participants, and asking about the show was lacking. Although this didn't change
how well the activity

Environmental Education : Education For Sustainability Essay
Environmental Education today must be understood as education for sustainability. The flow
information and knowledge caused by Environmental Education have the potential to build a new
vision of the world capable of guiding actions towards sustainability.
The history of environmental education can be searched back in the 18th century when Jean Jacques
Rousseau stressed the importance of an education that focuses on the environment in Emile: or, On
Education. There after several decades later, Louis Agassiz, a Swiss–born naturalist, echoed
Rousseau's philosophy as he encouraged students to "Study nature, not books." The work of these
two influential scholars helped lay the foundation for a concrete environmental education program,
known as nature study, which took place in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
The nature study movement used fables and moral lessons to help students develop an appreciation
of nature and embrace the natural world. Anna Botsford Comstock, the head of the Department of
Nature Study at Cornell University, was a prominent figure in the nature study movement and wrote
the Handbook for Nature Study in 1911, which used nature to educate children on cultural values.
Comstock and the other leaders of the movement, such as Liberty Hyde Bailey, helped Nature Study
garner tremendous amounts of support from community leaders, teachers, and scientists and change
the science curriculum for children across the United States.

Why I Want To Attend College
I have always been fascinated by the complex relationship between humanity and their environment.
Our home, planet earth, faces future consequences because of our actions, or lack thereof. After
discovering my passion for environmental stewardship, I have decided to commit to a conscious
lifestyle. Because of this decision, I plan to study environmental science in college where I hope to
develop my knowledge of our planet and catalyze my passion into action for the environmental
movement. At college, I hope to gain a distinguished education and catalyzed passion. The most
important reason why I wish to attend college is to gain a greater understanding of our home and
how human activities affect it. Therefore, I can achieve a strong foundation to support my efforts
towards a sustainable environment. Additionally, I hope to catalyze my passion for the environment
through student organizations and events. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A degree shows determination, initiative, and experience. My future will be benefitted by obtaining
a degree because it will set a path for leadership in the environmental movement. Since a college
degree shows many respectable attributes, I can effectively rise to a leadership position in society.
The lessons of inextinguishable passion and relentless determination as well as the connections I
make through networking would help me find a suitable career. Subsequently, I would also be able
to provide for my future family because of a college degree. I know this is true because my parents,
who were first–generation college students, have effectively provided for me and my siblings
because of their perseverance through prejudice and obstacles to achieve a college education.
Therefore, a college degree would not only benefit my future by allowing me to provide for my
family, but also reminding me of how important it is to be resilient through any obstacle life may

Environmental Education Is Not Always Implemented Within...
Environmental education is not always implemented within schools because classrooms are the
main space in which students learn and teachers are expected to teach. However, by implementing
activities that surround around current events in the environment and by connecting students to
nature, this can have positive effects in which it influences the individuals sense of self and their
community (Mcinerney, Smyth, & Down, 2011). Research found that children who play in a natural

coordination more than other children who play in build environments. They also develop better

However, good experiences can foster a good outlook on the environment and create good attitudes
and behaviours toward it. (Ernst & Tornabene, 2012) – (Wells and Lekies 2006).
In one study by Fisman (2005) first used a questionnaire to measure student's environmental
knowledge and then had students to assess their changes in their environmental awareness.
Moreover, results indicated that students' home environment reflected how they saw the current
environmental situation. For example, students living in a higher socioeconomic status displayed
improved views about their environment but children in low socioeconomic status did not. Too, the
condition of one's environment can reflect how the student improves on their views about nature.
This can create a challenge for environmental educators because not all children can necessarily be
influenced as much as others based on their home conditions.
Ernst & Tornabene, (2012) describe how certain environmental issues can become too scary or too
difficult to understand for children who are younger and this can become a challenge in the future.
Moreover, by trying to raise awareness to young children about the current events of today's
environment, it can cause them to become nervous and cause them to ignore the negative problems
happening with the environment (McKnight, 2014). This can also cause what is called Eco phobia,

The Hydrologic Cycle; life of water, is essential to Earth. The cycle begins with Evaporation to
Condensation and ending with Precipitation. The process describes the storage and movement of
water between the world's biosphere and atmosphere. Water are harnessed in different ways once the
hydrologic cycle has been initialized by means of runoffs, infiltrations, sublimations, transpirations,
and Groundwater Rivers. These kind of ways of transportation is like a car/truck to humans but

The impact results to where the modern technology meets the standards for the environmental
safety. The technology called BNA, which allowed the process of the Chesapeake Bay to be cleaned
because it was being overtaken by Dead Zones. These zones are baring and empty sections in the
water life because it has no living components in this area. Dead zones are low–oxygen areas in
coastal life consisting of oceans and large lakes, caused by excessive nutrient pollution from human
activities or animal muntrie. Larry Simns states the status of the crab harvesting in the Chesapeake
Bay: ".....2 million baskets in a year but not its 100,000 baskets." (The movie: Poisoned Water)
These dead zones have made a major impact on the marine world because these phenomenon has
cause no life to survive in the water, which kills the uniqueness of the waterworks. The BNA system
was the resolve for this situation because it filters the water by allowing bacteria to eat the nitrogen
that is located in the water. Another technology advancement deals with Aviation. The Aviation
organization has recognized the ecosystem damage that is being caused by the acts of man. The
burning of fuel by planes has caused O–zone decomposition

The Role Of Environmental Education In Iran
The third phase of environmental education in Iran was from the years 1997–2005. This phase is
also called Reformation Period and was marked by "sustainable development principle[s] [being]
integrated with development policy," (Shobeiri et al., 2014). The DOE was also reformed in 1998 to
include the Division of Planning and Education. In 1996, Article 46 of the Executive Regulations of
the Environmental Protected Law passed, and would "[offer] a National [award] [to] recognize[e]
scientific and cultural efforts to expand environmental understanding throughout society," (Shobeiri
et al., 2014). One significant award was given to the Ministry of Education, as their new textbooks "

The Fourth Phase The fourth phase started in 2006 to today. Inspired by the UN's "Education for
Sustainable Development," Iran developed a framework for environmental education, which was
"compatible with Iranian cultural and social [norms]," (Shobeiri et al., 2014). They wanted to fulfill
the following goals: provide structure EE, give specialized training, create a master plan for EE, and
the establishment of EE Headquarters in Tehran. Some of these programs have been more
implemented than others. Due to this, the fourth phase is not as clearly defined as the other three.
The next few sections will be looking at how well they have achieved some of their goals so far.
Specialized training for environmental education seems to have fallen by the wayside. Studies have
shown that there is a shortage of teachers who lack knowledge about environmental problems and
issues. Thus, there needs to be more effort put into updating teacher qualifications and classroom
materials (Karmizadegan and Meiboudi, 2012: Hederi, F. & Heidari, M., 2015). For instance, "goals,
questions, and assignments in Iranian textbooks have not changed since 2000," (Karmizadegan and
Meiboudi, 2012). By not updating these concerns, efforts to increase training and knowledge in
environmental education would slow down tremendously. While the basic structure of
environmental education will remain the same,

Environmental Education And The Urban Challenges
The topic I propose to develop my research in is environmental education and the urban challenges
it faces. The urgency of the current state of the environmental agenda makes it necessary to promote
environmental awareness in all generations as indispensable for a sustainable future. Despite this,
environmental education is still absent in most school programs and struggles to compete with
"formal education" when in fact they should be one and the same. Efforts to change this have been
recorded and so I propose to review literature on the topic. First, the literature research will
approach definition of environmental education as well as education for sustainable development
and definition and understanding of urban environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What is the current situation and context surrounding that topic? You should overview the general
subject area (and, where possible, the theoretical foundation as reported in published work) and
identify, in relation to the relevant reading you will have covered, a general problem that you can
tackle in your research.]
Sustainable development interconnects with the economic growth, nature conservation and the
concept of equality for all. Environmental education is a complex and dynamic field, and so, a
difficult one to assess. But given the urgency of the topic, its evaluation and better understanding
may provide us with the tools necessary to pursue sustainability. My primary motivation for the
research resides in the importance of sustainability as a vital practice for the future. The best way to
do this is through the spreading of knowledge and improvement of education and learning and find
what can be done to enhance it.
I find that it is necessary to understand the history and implementation of environmental education.
The use of the term environmental education itself is not considered relevant, especially due to the
fact that there is little agreement on it. Different authors have different opinions, such as Disinger
(1993), Wheeler (1985) and Sterling (1992). It is considered important, however, the actors in the
history of events that sought out for the need for an education for sustainable development.

Improving the Quality of International Agreements
Human production and development systems have increasingly made use of the earth's resources,
gradually leading to what can now be described as environmental crisis. Without immediate and
future concern for the ways humans treat the planet and surrounding atmosphere, humans could be
the creators of their own destruction. Economic, social, and political systems have all added to the
degradation of the environment, such as mineral resource extraction, wars, political boundaries, and
policy for actions taken within those boundaries. In order to attack the root causes of environmental
destruction, we must first confront the reasons behind human actions, and develop ways to

Canada's position internationally should be to promote significant environmental and social values
and concerns. Canada must respect and employ the most appropriate actions and efforts of other
nations in the facilitation of environmental concern, while promoting its own ideas and knowledge.
Facilitate International Co–operation
A primary requirement in the global effort to promote environmental concerns and raise awareness
of environmental problems is increased co–operation between nations. Canada's position at the
Earth Summit should be to promote the ability of nations to co–operate, emphasising improved
diplomacy and interaction. Environmental degradation is presently occurring throughout the world,
and is the result of international social, political, and economic processes and movements. The
environment is an open system, and the causes and effects of pollution are not constrained to any
anthropocentric boundaries. If we are to improve our situation world–wide, Canada must work
together with other nations to incorporate international concerns, knowledge, and action.
Many attempted efforts to promote international agreements in the past have been acknowledged,
but many have failed to gain overarching support and complete dedication from the majority of
involved nations. The Kyoto protocol, for example,

The Environmental Lobby and Voting Trends in the United States
The environmental movement in the United States has typically focused its resources on public
education, legislative lobbying and litigation. However, the movement's success in the latter two is
highly dependent on the quality and character of elected officials. Successful public education on
behalf of the environment translates into greater environmentalist electoral success.
This paper discusses national trends that impact and influence the environmental lobby's ability to
achieve favorable electoral results, and the manner in which the lobby has responded to those trends.

From 1988 to 1992 40–50% of strong Republicans supported increased federal spending on the
environment, while the vast majority of the remaining strong Republicans supported the status quo.
After 1994, independent leaning Republicans and weak Republicans increased their support for
decreased environmental spending by roughly 10 percentage points each, bringing each group to
12–13% support for decreased spending. Strong Republicans, however, moved from about 2–8% to
roughly 23% support for decreased environmental spending. Again, these changes indicate the
highly partisan nature of support for decreased environmental spending. The "Republican
Revolution" of 1994 brought a much more Conservative flavor to the Republican Party. Strong
Republicans would be more likely to toe the party line on issues like environmental spending, and
post–1994, the Republican Party line was arguably more anti–environmentalist. This willingness
among strong Republicans to carry the party line on environmental issues may be partly responsible
for the widening gap between some groups of traditional Republicans.
Republicans showed their strongest support for environmental spending in 1988, the year after
President Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol. Here again, a sign that strong Republicans may be
following party cues more than individual preferences on environmental issues. The nation as a
whole was more supportive of environmental spending in 1988 than in most years, but even strong

The Importance Of Environmental Education
In today's time of environmental distress, it is pertinent that children be educated on the
environment in order to instill attitudes of empowerment to change the world and optimism toward
the future. Climate change, deforestation, pollution, and countless other anthropogenic issues
threaten today's living species, and many animals have already lost the battle, proving that educating
youth on wildlife conservation is of utmost importance. Environmental education in children and
adolescents has always been a significant topic, as they hold the future of the Earth in their power.
Educators must be able to critically evaluate the effectiveness of their message to ensure their
intended outcomes and make appropriate modifications. Environmental education is based on the
five pillars of awareness, knowledge, attitude, skill, and participation. The United Nations
Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization established these objectives in the Tbilisi
Declaration in order to ensure that environmental education around the world has similar goals,
which include promoting individuals to gain motivation to participate in the protection of the
environment (Garcia et. al., 2016). These intersections of environmental education can be integrated
into the curriculum of students in all grades and are effective in nurturing an appreciation and
concern for the environment (Cutter–Mackenzie et. al., 2014). Educational programs aim to spread

Environmental Education And Sustainability : An Ethical...
With advances in technology and production driven by consumer demand, the importance of
environmental education and sustainability has become increasingly significant. This has led large
corporations and smaller businesses to get involved with ethical branding and cause–related
marketing, to encourage consumers to not only buy their product, but also give the impression that
they are demonstrating their ethical values by doing so (Hawkins, 2014). The problem with this
marketing approach is that consumers may fall under the impression that they are making a
difference with their continued support of a certain product, while being blinded from the bigger

There are over 1 billion people in the world who are still without access to potable water, most of

consumption of water is doubling every 20 years, at a rate that if continued, by 2025 the demand for
fresh water is expected to rise by 56% more than the amount of fresh water currently available
(Barlow, 2010). Moreover, there are numerous bottled water companies who are facing criticism for
the negative environmental and health impacts associated with the purchase of this product. The
approach most companies are now adopting to avoid this disproval, is to incorporate an "ethical"
incentive for purchase. The Ethos Water incentive is demonstrated in the brand's 2 main logos,
"Water for the World", and "Helping Children Get Clean Water". With the purchase of Ethos Water,
costing $2.50 per bottle, it is advertised that $0.05 dollars is donated to humanitarian water
programs – which consumers believe is making a difference in the availability of clean drinking
water for children worldwide. In this sense, consumers have the ability to demonstrate their ethical
values by purchasing Ethos Water products. However, as customers, there is a responsibility to be

2.5 HISTORY OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AS INFUSED IN SCIENCE EDUCATION
According to NCF 2005"The present status of Environmental Education (EE) in schools had its
genesis in the National Policy of Education (NPE) 1986 (modified in 1992), in which 'Protection of
the Environment ' is stated as a common core around which a National Curriculum Framework
(NCF) would be woven. The National Policy on Education 1986 emphasized the need to create
awareness of environmental concerns by integrating it in the educational process at all stages of
education and for all sections of society. Accordingly, the National Curriculum for Elementary and
Secondary Education: A Framework 1988 presented the NCERT 's view: "The school curriculum
should highlight the measures for protection and care of the environment, prevention of pollution
and conservation of energy." In consonance with these documents, Environmental Studies was
introduced as a subject at the primary level. The topics related to environment were suitably infused
with different science and social science subjects at all school stages. Understanding of the
environment in its totality, both natural and social, and their interactive processes, the environmental
problems and the ways and means to preserve the environment was one of the General Objectives of
Education as per National Curriculum. Framework 2000."

While at the school, I got to try my hand at a variety of different things. Every day was different. In
a classroom, you never know what is going to happen and everyday something different is taught. I
would go to the school Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays each week from 12:00pm until 3:00pm.
On Mondays, I would go to two Kindergarten classrooms, Mrs. Markons and Mrs. Rolfes. In both
classes, I helped with environmental education. Somedays there was an Environmental Educator
that would lead the class interactions and on other days it was up to the teacher and I to lead the
class interactions. Most days, if the weather was accommodating, the class would go out to the
school forest to learn. Usually we would start with a book inside and then outside we would relate
the book to what we saw. We did a variety of different things from making animal houses,
identifying trees, using nature to spell and do math, making bunny restaurants, and using our senses
to describe what we experienced. I typically, would be assigned a group of about seven students.
The students and I would go off into our own area of the woods and do the activity for the day. It
was my job to ask the students questions along with answering whatever questions they may have.
On Wednesdays, I would go to Mrs. Tamburro's art class with first graders and Mrs. Lampela's class
of second graders. The rest of the time I would help in the greenhouse keeping it maintained or
assist the teachers with whatever they needed.

California, Davis. Currently, it is run by 11 commissioners who are all UCD students. There are
around one fourth Asian, three fourth Caucasian and approximately the same gender ratio inside the
organization. E.P.P.C. mainly connects with any environmental issues around the local Davis area.

audience. Nonetheless, in comparison with other advocacy groups, E.P.P.C. cannot be counted as a
media savvy group due to the fact that they lack the ability to deal well with the media. First of all,
instead of having their own official website, they only have few website pages under UC Davis
website, which will reduce the possibility for media exposure and thus will have less chance to get
media coverage. Next, even though they utilize Facebook page as the channel to communicate with
the audience, posts on their Facebook page lack of eye–catching topics and content, which may

The Importance Of Environmental Literacy In Education
Overtime, in different countries, people have developed varying perspectives and opinions on
humanity's correct role in the environment. These perspectives often clash on political platforms in
terms of determining the correct approaches to education, food security, climate change and a
variety of other issues. In recent years, many people have both advocated for and against the further
incorporation of environmental literacy into the education system. This incorporation would
hopefully lead to a generation of people no longer disconnected from nature. Additionally, with a
greater emphasis on the environment a generation of students will begin to understand the
importance of environmental citizenship, and hopefully solve of the world's most severe
environmental problems, such as environmental racism or the overconsumption of resources. In
order to ensure a healthy future for generations to come, education should work as a tool to cultivate
students with environmentally–centered worldviews that will underscore the importance of living
sustainably, and help solve severe environmental problems.
As societies have developed, technology has increased, and the environment has developed into a
highly politicized issue many different environmental worldviews have formed. An environmental
worldview is "how the people think the world works and what they believe their role in the world
should be." Some people have earth–centered worldviews. The earth–centered worldview is more

The Importance Of Environmental Education
Introduction
Environmental education has been a priority for many educators in the past and even more so since
the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (MCEETYA,2008)
emphasised sustainability in education as a key priority for young Australians to become confident,
creative, active and informed local and global citizens. The Melbourne Declaration identified three
areas, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, Asia and Australia's engagement
with Asia, and Sustainability as key development areas. These three areas have been incorporated
into the Australian national curriculum to create active and informed global citizens and it is a test of
these outcomes for sustainability and environmental awareness that this study will determine and
analyse.
Methodology
Questions:
– What impact, if any, does environmental awareness have on student study choices?
– Do new university students live sustainably?
– How effective has the Australian national curriculums priority on sustainability been in creating
informed global citizens?
Research Question
As a result of the priority placed on sustainability within the Australian national curriculum, do first
year university students at James Cook University Townsville have an increased awareness of the
environment and live in a sustainable manner?
Hypothesis That fresh high school graduates have an increased awareness of the connection between
environmental systems and humanity, have

The Conservation Of The Environmental Movement
I decided to take action for the environmental movement because it is a big issue that impacts
everyone. At first, my intent was to volunteer for an organization called "Fresh Roots", but due to a
scheduling conflict, I chose UBC Farm, which is no less essential in its impact in Vancouver's
sustainability. In theory, the environmental movement has succeeded in many of its basic goals, such
as bringing attention to local and global problems, educating the public on simple sustainable
actions, and starting an international conversation. Nevertheless, there are many issues concerning
the climate and living species that have not been resolved yet.
– The UBC Farm houses The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (CSFS), which aims to change
global and local food systems to be more Eco–friendly and food secure. They try to find new ways
to solve challenges that the sustainability of food systems face, and thus enhance community,
personal and environmental health. Their group's mission is to create a healthy environment through
interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative research, and educational engagement with the
community. The centre also strives to increase land productivity, and advance ecosystem services;
starting from supply (habitat, fuel, food, etc.) all the way to the end–product (greenhouse gas,
waste). This weekend, I was able to be a part of this network when I volunteered at one of their fares
(the UBC Farm's Apple Festival). The volunteers were assigned to do a

As Inman S. and Rogers M. (2006) rightly put it, presently, it is a big concern since it was first
brought up in the UN conference on Environment and Development issues in Rio de Janeiro in
1992, where governments committed themselves to integrate the concepts of environmental
awareness and sustainable development in the informal and formal education sectors.
Caesar (2005) as cited in Inman S. and Rogers M. (2006) estimated that in 2006, one person in five
would have less than one dollar per day to live on, ten million people, including 4.5 million children
would die from hunger–related diseases and at least 13 million people would be refugees. From the
environmental perspective, Climate change is already responsible for a huge increase in extreme
weather conditions which bring devastation and disaster. The recent case is the prolonged drought in
Kenya resulting from the destruction of the main water catchment areas, such as the Mau,
complemented by the uncontrolled emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. According to
Connor (2005) as cited by Inman S. and Rogers M. (2006);
"the social, economic, political and environmental issues are threatening the only fabric that makes
the people a community; celebrate their diversity and endeavour rather peacefully to meet their basic
needs."
Kenya, being part of the global framework, has in a similar version been faced with a myriad of
challenges.

Education and Awareness Will Promote Environmental Justice
The goals of this environmental justice conference are stated simply: firstly, to explore whether
racial minorities and the poor are being environmentally victimized, and secondly, to evaluate public
policies that promote environmental fairness. Each speaker provided insight and information from
their respective area of expertise. Led by keynote speaker Dr. Bunyan Bryant, they drew upon the
realms of academic investigation, government and public policy, sociology, healthcare, and
philosophy to unite the environmental movement with the quest for social justice. After absorbing so
much information concerning the current state of environmental justice, one leaves the conference ...

Additionally, many conferences over the years have contributed to the organization and
dissemination of information vital to the growth of the environmental justice movement. As the
movement continues to grow and hopefully breach international boundaries, Dr. Bryant emphasizes
the importance of promoting an understanding of the central issues of race, income, intent, pollution
control versus prevention, positivism and participatory research, and top–down versus bottom–up
perspectives of investigation. Overall, Dr. Bryant's talk reveals the uniting theme of the conference –
the need for public awareness and understanding of environmental issues and concerns.
Dr. Manuel Lizarralde spoke of green imperialism and the relationship of indigenous people with
the conservation of natural environments. He emphasizes the importance of encouraging knowledge
and understanding of the environmental effects of the consumerism lifestyle, as well as recognizing
the expertise of indigenous people concerning their environment. Dr. Lizarralde dispenses with the
notion of the "noble savage," instead explaining that indigenous people often do not have the
technology to cause extensive environmental damage. This should serve as a warning to those of us
inhabiting the western developed nations. Choices we make every day can degrade our own

students was on full display during the evening of the H–D vs. St. Edmund basketball game. Earlier
that week the school received news that one of our students who had been fighting leukemia for
years was in decline, and the H–D Student Council jumped into action. In just a few short days they
orchestrated a fundraiser for him to take place during the basketball game on December 8, 2017. It
was announced before the varsity games that the night's games would be dedicated to him. He
received a basketball autographed by H–D players, and a video produced by the student body was
shown, wishing him well. It was also announced that a 1–minute bucket–run would take place
between the games. On the line was my hair. Five hundred dollars would mean I shaved my head,
and if they could raise $1000 I would dye my beard orange (he chose the color). The timer was set
and students raced through the home and visiting crowd. The outpouring of support was clear. At the
end of the 1–minute bucket–run, the event had raised nearly $2000 in support. Just as moving was

Impact Of The Neolithic And Bronze Age On Society
The impact of the Neolithic and Bronze Age societies on the environment The Neolithic is a time
period that relates to the later part of the Stone Age, when there was a lot of development of human
technology in regards to stone tools and the beginning of farming. The Bronze Age was a time
period characterized by the use of bronze and writing that indicated features of urban civilization.
There were many different approaches that were used to evaluate the relationship between
agriculture and social change in the Neolithic and Bronze Age societies. For instance, Fagan
suggested in 'Floods, Famine, and Emperors' that the growing human population exceeds the
capacity to maintain it. Additionally, the Neolithic, was a time period of over exploration ... Show

One approach that deals with this was proposed by Bonnet who suggested that there is no extinction
and if there was god would replace it. This is important because many people during the Neolithic
and Bronze Age were not concerned with the possible environmental damage that could be done,
instead they continued to use resources and migrate when they had used all of the resources in a
specific area. This was also discussed by Hughes in 'What Is Environmental History?' who stated
"Humans see themselves as separate from nature, above nature, and in charge of nature." This
statement is true of modern society, but it was also relevant for the agricultural societies during the
Neolithic and Bronze Age. Farming became very important in these agricultural societies, which
caused most people to settle in one place where there crops would grow and exploit the
environmental supplies in the area. This agricultural change also lead to social change because many
began to form civilizations and communities around cropping regions which was very damaging to
the environment where these civilizations were located. Extreme exploitation of environmental
resources was one reason Neolithic and Bronze Age societies suffered environmental

A Common Fear Of Population Growth
It's a common fear that population growth will exhaust resources and result in social or economic
disaster if it is not controlled. It is anticipated that most of the projected population growth during
this century will take place in developing nations. These countries have faced many challenges in
recent years, including low levels of education, poor health standards, scarcity, limited housing,
natural resource exhaustion, strife, and monetary and governmental command by other countries. In
places like Africa, industrial development has stalled and most workers still make a living from
survival agriculture. The association between population and the environment is a complicated one,

Mostly they focused their attention on teaching married couples about birth control and dispensing
contraceptives, but some programs took more coercive approaches. China imposed a limit of one
child per family in 1979, with two children allowed in special cases (Price, 1999).
Large societies obviously consume more supplies than small ones, but depletion patterns and
technology selections may report for more environmental harms than pure digits of people. The U.S.
population is about one–fourth as large as that of China or India, but the United States currently uses
far more energy because Americans are wealthier and use their prosperity to buy energy–intensive
goods like automobiles and electronics (Arrow & et al, 1995). However, China and India are
developing and becoming more prosperous, so their ecological effects will increase because of both
population expansion and consumption levels in the next several years. As income increases and
technologies diffuse through society, purchasers start to value environmental quality more greatly
and become more able to pay for it.
Carrying capacity is a term derived from ecology, its defined as the maximum number of beings a
habitat can sustain indeterminately without destroying the resources. For most species, there are four
variables that influence the calculating of carrying capacity:

English Essay on the Environment
Karen Coy–Marin
English 101–B01
October 15, 2011 It is common to see advertisements both locally and globally stressing the
importance of proper environmental management – preservation and conservation. Imprudent
ecological governance has led to the extinction and diminution of several species of wildlife and
plants. Mankind's pursuit of industrialization to make work easier, has resulted in the dangerous
depletion of the earth's natural resources. Fingers are pointed as the blame is cast on organizations
such as church and state. It appears as if humanity has refused to accept that proper environmental
management is everyone's duty. Even though mankind was given the mandate to be fruitful,
multiply, and replenish the earth (Gen. 1: 28), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The demand for wood and land by Europeans, as well as the use of fossil fuel, have destroyed the
environment and have drastically depleted the natural resources that the inhabitants depend on for
food and shelter. This resulted in "causing a greater rift between the rich and the poor, and with this
rift the poor become less capable of attaining resources from the environment they need to survive.
When less resources are available, more poor go hungry, and starve."[5] This apathy for the adverse
effects of an action on another reveals insensitivity. Christians can make a difference within their
communities and workplaces by being more eco–friendly. Leading by example is a great way to
subtly advocate policies that are environmentally friendly, such as proper recycling and energy
conservation. The Christian's role is to stand up for what is right, speak against it, and boycott
activities that are contrary to biblical teachings. God's command to the children of Israel was that
every seven years the land should not be cultivated but allowed to rest (Lev. 26: 34–35). With that
knowledge, believers should come together and seek to enforce similar laws that will allow
ecological restoration. In the essay No Margin for Error, New York Times reporter Bob Herbert,
addressed the harmful effects of global warming. He pointed out that it threatens creation as it
destroys coral reefs, raises temperature, and can possibly result in melting the

Environmental Education In Iran Essay
Purpose
In the USA, the evolution of environmental education has been well documented. However, in some
countries, it is not. This research aims to understand how governmental agencies, institutions, and
organizations have influenced the development of environmental education in Iran. Iran has a
fascinating history with the environment. During the Persian Empire, nature has an intrinsic value
rather than an instrumental. This implemented many sound environmental practices in Persian
culture. Exploring this connection and environmental education in modern Iran could produce new
and valuable insights.

connection between Iranian culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, much of the anecdotal information was very helpful in shaping Iran's past during and after
the revolution. The secondary information were research papers that were done by Iranian
professors and researchers. The sources were read and analyzed to find trends and events that
showed environmental education's evolution in the country. After, the results were used to answer
the objectives. The paper is formatted as a timeline to allow the reader to see how the events
unfolded. The rest of the objectives are answered in the "other influence" section.
Objectives
1) To understand how environmental education developed in Iran.
a) Were there forerunners like preservation, conservation, environmental quality?
b) When did their environmental movement begin?
c) Did they participate in the Tbilisi, Rio, Belgrade, Earth Summit, etc.?
2) How environmental education changed after the Iranian Revolution ended in 1979.
a) Was the environment less of a concern after the revolution?
b) Did the new government try to promote or dismantle environmental education efforts?
3) Quantify the information found from the first two objectives and how they relate to Iran today.
a) How have international and domestic policies influence environmental education?
b) Does Iran lean more towards environmental education or environmental sustainability education?

Should Christians Take Regarding The Environment And Its...
What specific action(s) should Christians take regarding the environment and its preservation or
restoration? Religion has had a lot of interaction with the environment since God created the world.
Humanity has a God given responsibility to take care of the environment. The changing state of the
environment from bad to worse is a growing concern for communities and nations across the globe.
Despite people that try to deny the fact that there are serious environmental issues, there is enough
proof out there. The Earth as an asset is being depleted on a large scale and the rate of pollution and
degradation to its health has a direct correlation with human activities. Modernization and that
includes, urbanization and industrialization, have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a very significant charge to be given by our Creator at the time of our creation! As
Christians, we have the responsibility of thinking through all that this commandment entails,
especially in light of modern scientific and technological advances. The demand for more energy,
food and raw materials effect people around the world on a daily basis. The deforestation and
urbanization in the world today impacts some of the most sensitive ecosystems there are. In
addition, there are natural activities that do harm to the planet. For example volcanic activities can
lead to the emission of toxic gases into the air and, tornadoes and earthquakes can be responsible for
the disruption of ecosystems. The reality that man has only one planet and environment to live
should makes it a serious concern for everyone. In "Ecology and Religion in History" David Spring
says Christians should be a very integral part of a save the environment program. (Spring, 2004)
Because of its large following Christianity is a prime part of the population which gives it the
numbers to make a difference if they work together. Christianity plays a part in environmental
protection. The primary role a Christian can play in the protection and conservation of the
environment is spreading of awareness. Spring also says that humanity is unaware that it is getting
itself into trouble and the community can play a part in spreading the information.

Population Environment And The Slums Of Mumbai
INTRODUCTION:
This research paper focuses on the population–environment dynamics in the slums of Mumbai. It
mainly discusses the impact of the growing slum population on water quality in Mumbai. First, the
research question and null hypotheses were stated based on the population, environment, social and
cultural contexts. Readings from class and other peer reviewed articles were used to support the
stated hypotheses and highlight the important aspects of the case study. Next, the important
population characteristics were discussed and compared to other relevant places and a summary of
the environmental and social context was also provided. Finally, the population–environment
relationship was summarized for the chosen case site (Null hypotheses true or not) and implications
of human actions on the natural world were discussed.
RESEARCH QUESTION AND HYPOTHESES:
Mumbai, India's financial hub is home to more than 20 million people. Historically, slum growth in
Mumbai was a result of population growth far beyond the total carrying capacity. It resulted in
overuse of traditional land, displacing a heavy chunk of the lower–middle class population to
informal settlements. Villages like Dharavi, Byculla and Khar with small scale industries got
converted into slums during this process. The rapid economic development in the 19th century also
brought in a lot of migrant population from the rural areas into a city ill–equipped to deal with them

Factors Shaping Recycling Habits Essay
Factors Shaping Recycling Habits
The United States generates more solid waste each year than any than any other nation. The total
cost of disposing of this waste has reached nearly $75 billion annually. Only 17% of the municipal
solid waste is recycled in the United States, compared with 40% in Japan and up to 60% in some
Western European countries (Oskamp et al., 1995). America's landfill system for disposing of this
waste is quickly reaching its limits, and managing this waste is becoming increasingly costly and
problematic. There are two solutions available for this problem: reduce the amount of waste
originally generated or to increase recycling (Porter et al., 1995). In focusing on the second solution
to this problem, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research findings regarding the relationship between recycling attitudes and recycling behaviors
have been generally consistent with general attitude–behavior theories, showing a significant,
though relatively small relationship (Schultz et al., 1995). In explaining what ideas other than pure
environmentalism shape people's recycling attitudes Huhtala sites reasons given in his surveys
which were not purely environmental. Recycling was also seen to represent "a viable alternative for
a throw–away society's wasteful lifestyle" (1999).
In addition to the growing number of materials being recycled today, there have been changes in the
typical types of recycling programs, from short–term campaigns and drop off programs, to voluntary
curb–side collection, and later to community wide recycling, with recycled materials either being
separated by the household or commingled (placed in a single container, rather than separated by
type). Despite procedural differences, most recycling programs have one thing in common ––
reliance on individual participation (Shultz et al.,1995). In attempting to develop reliable and
sustainable ways to reduce the amount of trash buried in landfills, scientists, policy–makers, and
community leaders need to understand the factors that lead people to recycle.
One specific attitude that has been clearly shown to affect behavior is satisfaction (or lack thereof)

The Importance Of Environmental Education
The way environmental education has been developed and evaluated is the underlying problem
surrounding environmental education curriculum. Students do not respect the values of teaching
environmental education. Countless programs have been introduced in school systems today
integrating environmental education in student's everyday lives, however this money has been
wasted because students are failing to make the connection between the facts and their individual
environmental actions. Environmental education is different than environmental information
because it is not the mere factual underlying, but the awareness and critical thinking it takes to make
informed environmental decisions. Both facts and fear are needed to make the connection between
what we are doing to the environment, and the proper way to move forward with its reconstruction.
Daniel T Blumstein and Charlie Saylan present a clear example of fear over facts in their article
"The Failure of Environmental Education (and How We Can Fix It)". In order to reduce the carbon
emissions into the atmosphere many people believe the answer lies in a hydrogen fueled economy.
Even though this many reduce pollution, people fail to make the connection between clean–burning
fuel cells and the enormous amounts of energy required to make those fuel cells. The fear that
carbon emissions are toxic to our bodies has been instilled in citizens and action has been taken, but
the factual underlying of the situation has not been

  • 5. Environment Education : Sustainability Is Environmental... Sustainability is "environment education". Learning about the environment and how natural systems function. It's everything that we need for our survival and wellbeing relating directly to our natural surrounding. The changing climate effects society and communities in many ways. For example, climate change can affect rainfall, our health, crops, and even our energy supply among other things. Across the country and over many areas of our economy climate–related impacts are happening. Ozone layer depletion is one of the most serious problems faced on earth. It is also one of the reasons which are leading to global warming. Ozone is a colorless gas which is found in the stratosphere and protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiations of the sun. The ozone layer soaks up the harmful radiations and prevents the rays from entering the earth's atmosphere. Ultraviolet radiations are high–energy electromagnetic waves given off by the sun which if enters the earth's atmosphere can lead to many environmental issues including global warming, and some health issues for all living organisms. The greenhouse effect happens when greenhouse gases collect in the earth's atmosphere. These gases included carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, fluorinated gases, and ozone. Greenhouse gases let the sun's light shine onto the Earth's surface but trap the heat that reflects back up into the atmosphere. In this way, they act like the glass walls of a greenhouse. This greenhouse effect keeps the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Social Ecological Model ( Sem ) The Social Ecological Model (SEM) was created to develop an understanding of the relationships between an individual and their social surroundings. While many other models use narrowly conceived frameworks, the SEM considers multiple levels of influence. At the core of the model lies the individual, with three levels of social influence surrounding –– representing interpersonal relationships, organizational/community influence, and governmental policy action (CDC, 2015). Social Ecology is an all–encompassing body of work that seeks to establish theoretical frameworks by considering the interrelations of people and their distinct environmental factors related to health and wellness (Stokols, 1996). The SEM integrates individual approaches related to health behavior by utilizing interventions focusing on improving the physical and social surroundings. However, the SEM goes beyond environmental change by establishing theoretical models explaining the dynamic connections between individuals and their social settings. The social ecological model is derived from a multitude of research areas, but ultimately stems from the biological relationships between organisms and their environment. As such, greater attention was eventually brought towards developing an understanding of people and the social and cultural constructs surrounding them (Stokols, 1996). The SEM characterizes environmental health impacts into physical, social, and cultural dimensions, such as 'physical health status ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Building Bridges For Environmentalists : The Role Of... Jody Chinchen PSY 513 November 21, 2014 Final Draft Building Bridges for Environmentalists: The Role of Diversity in the Environmental Movement Introduction Environmentalism has long been accused of being a condition of the affluent – a veritable luxury of the first world condition, despite a resounding deficiency of empirical data to support this assumption. A number of studies countering this point of view are being disseminated, potentially dismantling these postulations (Brechin 1999; Fairbrother 2012; Ignatow 2006; Mart'inez–Alier and Alier 2012), though the cultural disparity explaining a wide variety of environmentalist concerns remains difficult to explain (Brechin 1999), albeit important. Understanding commonalities, more so than polarities, will prove invaluable as we enter an era of globalization and face increased conflict over resource scarcity. A unified approach to solving environmental issues is imperative. This paper will examine the social constructions of environmentalism in the context of building and reinforcing environmental values. Kevin Archer, in Social Constructions of the Environment, states: "Environmental issues... are considered... combined social and natural phenomena, neither wholly natural nor wholly social in origin or substance. Thus, environmental issues, problems and conditions should be studied as such if they are to be successfully identified, analyzed and resolved" (2012:1). This paper seeks to examine more thoroughly this concept of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Environmental Education At David Fleay 's Wildlife Park Essay Today was the first day of our applied theatre project for environmental education at David Fleay's Wildlife Park. We started the day by getting into costumes and roaming around the park. Originally this was done in pairs, but seeing the amount of people that actually came to the park we decided that going as a group of all four of us would be the most beneficial, as we didn't want to see the same people twice. As it was our first day we were all a bit nervous, but Afri and Georgia's engagement with the children at the park was successful, they were taught the "secret call" of "Coowee!" and they enjoyed the animals being there. Next time, the animals could engage more and be more present in this activity. Next was the performance. The performance went exceptionally well, and the audience of around fifteen children (and their parents) were engaged and participating the entire time. Though, due to this the performance ran longer than expected and we were unable to do the "eco Hero Pledge". We also underestimated the amount of people that would be there, and it was hard for one person to hand out all the Eco Hero badges, and so next time I will be assisting Lydia with handing those out. The workshop also went really well, we had lots of the participants come in and create Bilby ears with us and it was a lot of fun. As a facilitator I felt my own personal interaction with the participants, and asking about the show was lacking. Although this didn't change how well the activity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Environmental Education : Education For Sustainability Essay Environmental Education today must be understood as education for sustainability. The flow information and knowledge caused by Environmental Education have the potential to build a new vision of the world capable of guiding actions towards sustainability. The history of environmental education can be searched back in the 18th century when Jean Jacques Rousseau stressed the importance of an education that focuses on the environment in Emile: or, On Education. There after several decades later, Louis Agassiz, a Swiss–born naturalist, echoed Rousseau's philosophy as he encouraged students to "Study nature, not books." The work of these two influential scholars helped lay the foundation for a concrete environmental education program, known as nature study, which took place in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The nature study movement used fables and moral lessons to help students develop an appreciation of nature and embrace the natural world. Anna Botsford Comstock, the head of the Department of Nature Study at Cornell University, was a prominent figure in the nature study movement and wrote the Handbook for Nature Study in 1911, which used nature to educate children on cultural values. Comstock and the other leaders of the movement, such as Liberty Hyde Bailey, helped Nature Study garner tremendous amounts of support from community leaders, teachers, and scientists and change the science curriculum for children across the United States. Our home, planet earth, faces future consequences because of our actions, or lack thereof. After discovering my passion for environmental stewardship, I have decided to commit to a conscious lifestyle. Because of this decision, I plan to study environmental science in college where I hope to develop my knowledge of our planet and catalyze my passion into action for the environmental movement. At college, I hope to gain a distinguished education and catalyzed passion. The most important reason why I wish to attend college is to gain a greater understanding of our home and how human activities affect it. Therefore, I can achieve a strong foundation to support my efforts towards a sustainable environment. Additionally, I hope to catalyze my passion for the environment through student organizations and events. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Environmental education is not always implemented within schools because classrooms are the main space in which students learn and teachers are expected to teach. However, by implementing activities that surround around current events in the environment and by connecting students to nature, this can have positive effects in which it influences the individuals sense of self and their community (Mcinerney, Smyth, & Down, 2011). Research found that children who play in a natural environment to develop better physical skills such as improved motor skills, fitness, and coordination more than other children who play in build environments. However, good experiences can foster a good outlook on the environment and create good attitudes and behaviours toward it. (Ernst & Tornabene, 2012) – (Wells and Lekies 2006). In one study by Fisman (2005) first used a questionnaire to measure student's environmental knowledge and then had students to assess their changes in their environmental awareness. Moreover, results indicated that students' home environment reflected how they saw the current environmental situation. For example, students living in a higher socioeconomic status displayed improved views about their environment but children in low socioeconomic status did not. Too, the condition of one's environment can reflect how the student improves on their views about nature. This can create a challenge for environmental educators because not all children can necessarily be influenced as much as others based on their home conditions. Ernst & Tornabene, (2012) describe how certain environmental issues can become too scary or too difficult to understand for children who are younger and this can become a challenge in the future. Moreover, by trying to raise awareness to young children about the current events of today's environment, it can cause them to become nervous and cause them to ignore the negative problems happening with the environment (McKnight, 2014). This can also cause what is called Eco phobia, which involves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The process describes the storage and movement of water between the world's biosphere and atmosphere. Water are harnessed in different ways once the hydrologic cycle has been initialized by means of runoffs, infiltrations, sublimations, transpirations, and Groundwater Rivers. Dead zones are low–oxygen areas in coastal life consisting of oceans and large lakes, caused by excessive nutrient pollution from human activities or animal muntrie. Larry Simns states the status of the crab harvesting in the Chesapeake Bay: ".....2 million baskets in a year but not its 100,000 baskets." (The movie: Poisoned Water) These dead zones have made a major impact on the marine world because these phenomenon has cause no life to survive in the water, which kills the uniqueness of the waterworks. The BNA system was the resolve for this situation because it filters the water by allowing bacteria to eat the nitrogen that is located in the water. Another technology advancement deals with Aviation. The Aviation organization has recognized the ecosystem damage that is being caused by the acts of man. This phase is also called Reformation Period and was marked by "sustainable development principle[s] [being] integrated with development policy," (Shobeiri et al., 2014). The DOE was also reformed in 1998 to include the Division of Planning and Education. In 1996, Article 46 of the Executive Regulations of the Environmental Protected Law passed, and would "[offer] a National [award] [to] recognize[e] scientific and cultural efforts to expand environmental understanding throughout society," (Shobeiri et al., 2014). The Fourth Phase The fourth phase started in 2006 to today. Inspired by the UN's "Education for Sustainable Development," Iran developed a framework for environmental education, which was "compatible with Iranian cultural and social [norms]," (Shobeiri et al., 2014). They wanted to fulfill the following goals: provide structure EE, give specialized training, create a master plan for EE, and the establishment of EE Headquarters in Tehran. Some of these programs have been more implemented than others. Due to this, the fourth phase is not as clearly defined as the other three. The next few sections will be looking at how well they have achieved some of their goals so far. Specialized training for environmental education seems to have fallen by the wayside. Studies have shown that there is a shortage of teachers who lack knowledge about environmental problems and issues. Thus, there needs to be more effort put into updating teacher qualifications and classroom materials (Karmizadegan and Meiboudi, 2012: Hederi, F. & Heidari, M., 2015). For instance, "goals, questions, and assignments in Iranian textbooks have not changed since 2000," (Karmizadegan and Meiboudi, 2012). The urgency of the current state of the environmental agenda makes it necessary to promote environmental awareness in all generations as indispensable for a sustainable future. Despite this, environmental education is still absent in most school programs and struggles to compete with "formal education" when in fact they should be one and the same. Environmental education is a complex and dynamic field, and so, a difficult one to assess. But given the urgency of the topic, its evaluation and better understanding may provide us with the tools necessary to pursue sustainability. My primary motivation for the research resides in the importance of sustainability as a vital practice for the future. The best way to do this is through the spreading of knowledge and improvement of education and learning and find what can be done to enhance it. I find that it is necessary to understand the history and implementation of environmental education. The use of the term environmental education itself is not considered relevant, especially due to the fact that there is little agreement on it. Different authors have different opinions, such as Disinger (1993), Wheeler (1985) and Sterling (1992). It is considered important, however, the actors in the history of events that sought out for the need for an education for sustainable development. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Improving the Quality of International Agreements Human production and development systems have increasingly made use of the earth's resources, gradually leading to what can now be described as environmental crisis. Without immediate and future concern for the ways humans treat the planet and surrounding atmosphere, humans could be the creators of their own destruction. Economic, social, and political systems have all added to the degradation of the environment, such as mineral resource extraction, wars, political boundaries, and policy for actions taken within those boundaries. Canada's position at the Earth Summit should be to promote the ability of nations to co–operate, emphasising improved diplomacy and interaction. Environmental degradation is presently occurring throughout the world, and is the result of international social, political, and economic processes and movements. The environment is an open system, and the causes and effects of pollution are not constrained to any anthropocentric boundaries. If we are to improve our situation world–wide, Canada must work together with other nations to incorporate international concerns, knowledge, and action. The Environmental Lobby and Voting Trends in the United States The environmental movement in the United States has typically focused its resources on public education, legislative lobbying and litigation. However, the movement's success in the latter two is highly dependent on the quality and character of elected officials. Successful public education on behalf of the environment translates into greater environmentalist electoral success. This paper discusses national trends that impact and influence the environmental lobby's ability to achieve favorable electoral results, and the manner in which the lobby has responded to those trends. From 1988 to 1992 40–50% of strong Republicans supported increased federal spending on the environment, while the vast majority of the remaining strong Republicans supported the status quo. After 1994, independent leaning Republicans and weak Republicans increased their support for decreased environmental spending by roughly 10 percentage points each, bringing each group to 12–13% support for decreased spending. Strong Republicans, however, moved from about 2–8% to roughly 23% support for decreased environmental spending. Again, these changes indicate the highly partisan nature of support for decreased environmental spending. The "Republican Revolution" of 1994 brought a much more Conservative flavor to the Republican Party. Strong Republicans would be more likely to toe the party line on issues like environmental spending, and post–1994, the Republican Party line was arguably more anti–environmentalist. This willingness among strong Republicans to carry the party line on environmental issues may be partly responsible for the widening gap between some groups of traditional Republicans. Republicans showed their strongest support for environmental spending in 1988, the year after President Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol. Here again, a sign that strong Republicans may be following party cues more than individual preferences on environmental issues. • 33. The Importance Of Environmental Education In today's time of environmental distress, it is pertinent that children be educated on the environment in order to instill attitudes of empowerment to change the world and optimism toward the future. Climate change, deforestation, pollution, and countless other anthropogenic issues threaten today's living species, and many animals have already lost the battle, proving that educating youth on wildlife conservation is of utmost importance. Environmental education in children and adolescents has always been a significant topic, as they hold the future of the Earth in their power. Educators must be able to critically evaluate the effectiveness of their message to ensure their intended outcomes and make appropriate modifications. Environmental education is based on the five pillars of awareness, knowledge, attitude, skill, and participation. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization established these objectives in the Tbilisi Declaration in order to ensure that environmental education around the world has similar goals, which include promoting individuals to gain motivation to participate in the protection of the environment (Garcia et. al., 2016). These intersections of environmental education can be integrated into the curriculum of students in all grades and are effective in nurturing an appreciation and concern for the environment (Cutter–Mackenzie et. al., 2014). With advances in technology and production driven by consumer demand, the importance of environmental education and sustainability has become increasingly significant. This has led large corporations and smaller businesses to get involved with ethical branding and cause–related marketing, to encourage consumers to not only buy their product, but also give the impression that they are demonstrating their ethical values by doing so (Hawkins, 2014). There are over 1 billion people in the world who are still without access to potable water, most of which are located in developing countries (Brei and Bohm, 2014). At the same time, global consumption of water is doubling every 20 years, at a rate that if continued, by 2025 the demand for fresh water is expected to rise by 56% more than the amount of fresh water currently available (Barlow, 2010). Moreover, there are numerous bottled water companies who are facing criticism for the negative environmental and health impacts associated with the purchase of this product. The approach most companies are now adopting to avoid this disproval, is to incorporate an "ethical" incentive for purchase. The Ethos Water incentive is demonstrated in the brand's 2 main logos, "Water for the World", and "Helping Children Get Clean Water". With the purchase of Ethos Water, costing $2.50 per bottle, it is advertised that $0.05 dollars is donated to humanitarian water programs – which consumers believe is making a difference in the availability of clean drinking water for children worldwide. The National Policy on Education 1986 emphasized the need to create awareness of environmental concerns by integrating it in the educational process at all stages of education and for all sections of society. Accordingly, the National Curriculum for Elementary and Secondary Education: A Framework 1988 presented the NCERT 's view: "The school curriculum should highlight the measures for protection and care of the environment, prevention of pollution and conservation of energy." In consonance with these documents, Environmental Studies was introduced as a subject at the primary level. The topics related to environment were suitably infused with different science and social science subjects at all school stages. Understanding of the environment in its totality, both natural and social, and their interactive processes, the environmental problems and the ways and means to preserve the environment was one of the General Objectives of Education as per National Curriculum. In a classroom, you never know what is going to happen and everyday something different is taught. I would go to the school Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays each week from 12:00pm until 3:00pm. On Mondays, I would go to two Kindergarten classrooms, Mrs. Markons and Mrs. Rolfes. In both classes, I helped with environmental education. Somedays there was an Environmental Educator that would lead the class interactions and on other days it was up to the teacher and I to lead the class interactions. Most days, if the weather was accommodating, the class would go out to the school forest to learn. Usually we would start with a book inside and then outside we would relate the book to what we saw. We did a variety of different things from making animal houses, identifying trees, using nature to spell and do math, making bunny restaurants, and using our senses to describe what we experienced. I typically, would be assigned a group of about seven students. The students and I would go off into our own area of the woods and do the activity for the day. It was my job to ask the students questions along with answering whatever questions they may have. • 45. The Importance Of Environmental Literacy In Education Overtime, in different countries, people have developed varying perspectives and opinions on humanity's correct role in the environment. These perspectives often clash on political platforms in terms of determining the correct approaches to education, food security, climate change and a variety of other issues. In recent years, many people have both advocated for and against the further incorporation of environmental literacy into the education system. • 47. The Importance Of Environmental Education Introduction Environmental education has been a priority for many educators in the past and even more so since the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (MCEETYA,2008) emphasised sustainability in education as a key priority for young Australians to become confident, creative, active and informed local and global citizens. The Melbourne Declaration identified three areas, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia, and Sustainability as key development areas. These three areas have been incorporated into the Australian national curriculum to create active and informed global citizens and it is a test of these outcomes for sustainability and environmental awareness that this study will determine and analyse. Methodology Questions: – What impact, if any, does environmental awareness have on student study choices? – Do new university students live sustainably? – How effective has the Australian national curriculums priority on sustainability been in creating informed global citizens? Research Question As a result of the priority placed on sustainability within the Australian national curriculum, do first year university students at James Cook University Townsville have an increased awareness of the environment and live in a sustainable manner? At first, my intent was to volunteer for an organization called "Fresh Roots", but due to a scheduling conflict, I chose UBC Farm, which is no less essential in its impact in Vancouver's sustainability. In theory, the environmental movement has succeeded in many of its basic goals, such as bringing attention to local and global problems, educating the public on simple sustainable actions, and starting an international conversation. Nevertheless, there are many issues concerning the climate and living species that have not been resolved yet. – The UBC Farm houses The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (CSFS), which aims to change global and local food systems to be more Eco–friendly and food secure. They try to find new ways to solve challenges that the sustainability of food systems face, and thus enhance community, personal and environmental health. Their group's mission is to create a healthy environment through interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative research, and educational engagement with the community. The centre also strives to increase land productivity, and advance ecosystem services; starting from supply (habitat, fuel, food, etc.) all the way to the end–product (greenhouse gas, waste). Caesar (2005) as cited in Inman S. and Rogers M. There were many different approaches that were used to evaluate the relationship between agriculture and social change in the Neolithic and Bronze Age societies. This was also discussed by Hughes in 'What Is Environmental History?' who stated "Humans see themselves as separate from nature, above nature, and in charge of nature." This statement is true of modern society, but it was also relevant for the agricultural societies during the Neolithic and Bronze Age. English Essay on the Environment Karen Coy–Marin English 101–B01 October 15, 2011 It is common to see advertisements both locally and globally stressing the importance of proper environmental management – preservation and conservation. Imprudent ecological governance has led to the extinction and diminution of several species of wildlife and plants. Mankind's pursuit of industrialization to make work easier, has resulted in the dangerous depletion of the earth's natural resources. Fingers are pointed as the blame is cast on organizations such as church and state. It appears as if humanity has refused to accept that proper environmental management is everyone's duty. When less resources are available, more poor go hungry, and starve."[5] This apathy for the adverse effects of an action on another reveals insensitivity. The Christian's role is to stand up for what is right, speak against it, and boycott activities that are contrary to biblical teachings. • 70. Should Christians Take Regarding The Environment And Its... What specific action(s) should Christians take regarding the environment and its preservation or restoration? Religion has had a lot of interaction with the environment since God created the world. Humanity has a God given responsibility to take care of the environment. The changing state of the environment from bad to worse is a growing concern for communities and nations across the globe. Despite people that try to deny the fact that there are serious environmental issues, there is enough proof out there. The Earth as an asset is being depleted on a large scale and the rate of pollution and degradation to its health has a direct correlation with human activities. Modernization and that includes, urbanization and industrialization, have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a very significant charge to be given by our Creator at the time of our creation! As Christians, we have the responsibility of thinking through all that this commandment entails, especially in light of modern scientific and technological advances. The demand for more energy, food and raw materials effect people around the world on a daily basis. The deforestation and urbanization in the world today impacts some of the most sensitive ecosystems there are. In addition, there are natural activities that do harm to the planet. For example volcanic activities can lead to the emission of toxic gases into the air and, tornadoes and earthquakes can be responsible for the disruption of ecosystems. The reality that man has only one planet and environment to live should makes it a serious concern for everyone. In "Ecology and Religion in History" David Spring says Christians should be a very integral part of a save the environment program. (Spring, 2004) Because of its large following Christianity is a prime part of the population which gives it the numbers to make a difference if they work together. Christianity plays a part in environmental protection. The primary role a Christian can play in the protection and conservation of the environment is spreading of awareness. Spring also says that humanity is unaware that it is getting itself into trouble and the community can play a part in spreading the information. • 72. Population Environment And The Slums Of Mumbai INTRODUCTION: This research paper focuses on the population–environment dynamics in the slums of Mumbai. It mainly discusses the impact of the growing slum population on water quality in Mumbai. First, the research question and null hypotheses were stated based on the population, environment, social and cultural contexts. Readings from class and other peer reviewed articles were used to support the stated hypotheses and highlight the important aspects of the case study. Next, the important population characteristics were discussed and compared to other relevant places and a summary of the environmental and social context was also provided. Finally, the population–environment relationship was summarized for the chosen case site (Null hypotheses true or not) and implications of human actions on the natural world were discussed. RESEARCH QUESTION AND HYPOTHESES: Mumbai, India's financial hub is home to more than 20 million people. Historically, slum growth in Mumbai was a result of population growth far beyond the total carrying capacity. It resulted in overuse of traditional land, displacing a heavy chunk of the lower–middle class population to informal settlements. Villages like Dharavi, Byculla and Khar with small scale industries got converted into slums during this process. The rapid economic development in the 19th century also brought in a lot of migrant population from the rural areas into a city ill–equipped to deal with them [1]. This provides us ... • 74. Factors Shaping Recycling Habits Essay Factors Shaping Recycling Habits The United States generates more solid waste each year than any than any other nation. The total cost of disposing of this waste has reached nearly $75 billion annually. Only 17% of the municipal solid waste is recycled in the United States, compared with 40% in Japan and up to 60% in some Western European countries (Oskamp et al., 1995). America's landfill system for disposing of this waste is quickly reaching its limits, and managing this waste is becoming increasingly costly and problematic. There are two solutions available for this problem: reduce the amount of waste originally generated or to increase recycling (Porter et al., 1995). In focusing on the second solution to this problem, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research findings regarding the relationship between recycling attitudes and recycling behaviors have been generally consistent with general attitude–behavior theories, showing a significant, though relatively small relationship (Schultz et al., 1995). In explaining what ideas other than pure environmentalism shape people's recycling attitudes Huhtala sites reasons given in his surveys which were not purely environmental. Recycling was also seen to represent "a viable alternative for a throw–away society's wasteful lifestyle" (1999). In addition to the growing number of materials being recycled today, there have been changes in the typical types of recycling programs, from short–term campaigns and drop off programs, to voluntary curb–side collection, and later to community wide recycling, with recycled materials either being separated by the household or commingled (placed in a single container, rather than separated by type). Despite procedural differences, most recycling programs have one thing in common –– reliance on individual participation (Shultz et al.,1995). In attempting to develop reliable and sustainable ways to reduce the amount of trash buried in landfills, scientists, policy–makers, and community leaders need to understand the factors that lead people to recycle. One specific attitude that has been clearly shown to affect behavior is satisfaction (or lack thereof) with local environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. The Importance Of Environmental Education The way environmental education has been developed and evaluated is the underlying problem surrounding environmental education curriculum. Students do not respect the values of teaching environmental education. Countless programs have been introduced in school systems today integrating environmental education in student's everyday lives, however this money has been wasted because students are failing to make the connection between the facts and their individual environmental actions. Environmental education is different than environmental information because it is not the mere factual underlying, but the awareness and critical thinking it takes to make informed environmental decisions. Both facts and fear are needed to make the connection between what we are doing to the environment, and the proper way to move forward with its reconstruction. Daniel T Blumstein and Charlie Saylan present a clear example of fear over facts in their article "The Failure of Environmental Education (and How We Can Fix It)". In order to reduce the carbon emissions into the atmosphere many people believe the answer lies in a hydrogen fueled economy. Even though this many reduce pollution, people fail to make the connection between clean–burning fuel cells and the enormous amounts of energy required to make those fuel cells. The fear that carbon emissions are toxic to our bodies has been instilled in citizens and action has been taken, but the factual underlying of the situation has not been ...
