What is Fluid ? What is Flow ? Let us first define what a fluid ? and What is flow ? Fluid is a liquid, gas, and air. Flow is the continuous movement of a fluid from one place to another. What is Laminar Flow ? What is Turbulent Flow ? Two types of flows, namely laminar flows and turbulent flows. Laminar flow is a 'simple' flow, while Turbulent flow is a 'complicated' flow. In a laminar flow, all the molecules in the fluid move in the same direction and at the same speed. In a turbulent flow, however, the molecules in the fluid move in different directions and at different speeds. Turbulent motions are very common in Nature. Turbulence occurs nearly everywhere: in the oceans, in the atmosphere, in rivers, even in stars and galaxies. In fact, it is easier to find a turbulent flow than a really laminar flow. Here are a few examples of turbulent flows: The wake of a ship or submarine is turbulent. The swirls and eddies in a fast flowing river are turbulent. The air currents in the atmosphere are turbulent. Turbulence was observed when volcano erupts. The outer layer of the Sun, i.e. the convection zone, is highly turbulent. Types of Turbulence Wall turbulence: Free turbulence: Convective turbulence

span of control The organisational structure links human resource in a formal manner through the span of control and scalar chain. Both are corelaed and are inversely related. The span of control relates to the no. of subordinates accountable to one superior. The smaller the span of control, more will be the scalor links and the structure will be tall. And if the span of control is larger, the scalor links will be less and the structure will be flat. Factors affecting the span of control: Competance of superior: Competant superior is capable enough to handle more subordinates. Competance of the subordinates: Competant subordinates disturb less to superiors and thus, enables superior to handle more subordinates. Nature of work: if repetitive work, more subordinates can be handled by one superior. Similarly if innovative work assignment also, one superior can handle more subordinates. Means of communication: If subordinates are communicable on telephone or electronic media, then one superior can handle more no. of superiors. Physical distance between superior and subordinates: Longer the distance more subordinates can be handled through delegation of authority and management by exception. Similarly in case of nearness also, one superior can handle more subordinates. Leadership styles: In case of autocratic style, the frequency of meeting of subordinates with superior is high, so less subordinates are amenable to be handled. However, issue of standard instructions can be amenable to handle more subordinates by a single autocratic leader.

When the desired thickness in obtained, the remaining molten metal in poured out. Slush casting method is an effective technique to cast hollow items like decorative pieces, components, ornaments, etc. APPLICATIONS Some casting of pewter is cast using slush casting method. Using pewter and other metals mainly hollow products are casted. Decorative and ornamental objects that are casted are as vase, bowls, candlesticks, lamps, statues, jewelery, animal miniatures, various collectibles etc. Small objects and components for industry like tankard handle, handles for hollow wares, etc. ADVANTAGES Slush casting is used to produce hollow parts without the use of cores The desired thickness can be achieved by pouring our the left over molten metal A variety of exquisitely designed casting can be casted for decorative and ornamental purpose.

FACTOR OF SAFETY It is defined as the ratio of the material strength ultimate strength or yield strength or endurance strength to the working or allowable stress. Factor of safety= Material strength/Design stress Factor of safety for static loading of ductile material: In case of the static loading of ductile materials where the yield point is clearly defined, the factor of safety is based on yield strength and is defined as Factor of safety= Yield strength/Design stress Factor of safety for static loading of brittle material: In case of the static loading of material, the factor of safety is based on the ultimate strength. Factor of safety= Ultimate strength/Design stress Factor of safety for fatigue loading: In case of fatigue loading, the factor of safety is based on endurance limit. Factor of safety= Endurance limit/Design stress CONTACT STRESS When two bodies having curved surfaces like two spheres or two cylinders or cylinder or flat surface or sphere and flat surface are pressed against each other, the point or line contact between the two bodies changes to area contact. The stress developed in the two bodies in the contact zone is known as contact stress or Hertz contact stress. Eg: The contact stress is induced in a contact zone of wheel and rail, cam, and follower, mating gear teeth, rolling contact bearing, etc CRUSHING STRESS OR BEARING STRESS A localized compressive stress at the area of contact between two components having no relative motion between them is known as crushing stress or bearing stress. Crushing stress= Force/projected area of contact
