This document outlines the history and work of the Chemical Health Initiative (CHI) in Goodhue County from 2004 to 2009. It establishes CHI's vision of safe and healthy communities and mission to enhance quality of life through chemical health promotion. It describes the formation of CHI councils in various communities, prevention programs and initiatives in schools and with youth, and strategic use of branding, awareness campaigns, and data collection. The goal is to work with all community sectors to institutionalize effective prevention strategies and create an environment supporting healthy families through partnerships.

This is how the CHI will accomplish its mission of promoting chemical health for all citizens of Goodhue County. …to identify prevention policies, practices, procedures and programs that can be embedded into their operational structures. The CHI does not deliver or provide direct services, nor does it work alone in its initiatives. Environmental changes will produce behavioral changes at the population level.
