Spike Lee's version of Malcolm X's life is similar to the historical Malcolm X. By watching the
movie and knowing who he was and his beliefs, one can easily tell how alike they are.
When the movie starts Malcolm Little is getting his hair cut. The appearance is that he wants to look
more like a white person. Malcolm X's father is a preacher, but the KKK came to the house to burn

to wire Malcolm's phone so it would blow up.
Later in his life he went to Mecca and became a pilgrim, while he was in Mecca he drank from the

The Autobiography of Malcolm X was about one African Americans struggle during a time of
extreme racism and discrimination to make a name for himself. Malcolm had many life experiences
before tragically being shot and killed. He was a hustler in Harlem, a porter for a railroad, and was
eventually a minister for the black Islam movement lead by Elijah Mahammad. Malcolm Little lived
a very interesting life to become the man he will be remembered as.
Right before Malcolm was born members of the KKK came to their little home in Omaha, Nebraska
terrorizing his mother. But they were not just there to terrorize her because she was black it was
because of who his father was. His father, Earl Little, would eventually be killed not by the clan but
an equivalent group. Earl was killed because he was a preacher of Marcus Garvey's movement of
being disconnected from the white man and they thought he was causing a disturbance for the "good
black people. The sad part is that no ever was convicted or even brought in for questioning because
they put his body on a street car track and the police just believed it was all an accident. It would

Plot
Malcolm X was born in a black family in Omaha Midwest of Nebraska in the period of racial
discrimination and violence. Together with his family, they moved to Michigan where racial
discrimination is also evident. His father is murdered by the whites, and his mother out of trauma is
taken to a mental hospital. He goes through the detention school but moves to Boston after finishing
the eighth grade to stay with Ella his half sitter. He quickly catches up with urban life and does
things done by people of older age than him he does things like: drinking, gambling, doing drugs,
and dates an older white lady by the name Sophia. He gets a job at the railway to work as a porter.
After a while he moves to New York and becomes a hustler in Harlem. He does several jobs
including selling drugs, running numbers and driving white men to black Cathouse. He is engaged
in many armed robberies, and as life becomes hard and dangerous, he decides to go back to Boston.
While trying to catch up with life in Boston as a burglar, he is arrested, prosecuted and jailed. In
prison, he remarks on himself and converts to a Muslim through a group supported by Islam nation
that manages to convert Malcolm's siblings as well.

The different backgrounds of John, Cornelia, Lou, and Samuel would affect their ability to adjust to
the end of the war. As "they stepped across the threshold between the old world and the new" (Ash
Location 69), each would experience varying degrees of despair, hope, and restlessness. For John
Robertson, it was his friends, family, and search for spiritual fulfillment that would play a major role
in his ability to adjust. Louis Hughes a slave used the skills he learned as a manservant from
Edmund McGehee, and his unwavering desire to truly become free that greatly helped his ability to
adjust to daily life during and after the war. Cornelia McDonald grew up being waited on by slaves,
but her social status and the few skills she learned would help her to survive on the verge of poverty

The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley is the story about a man who greatly
impacted American history. Malcolm Little, or Malcolm X as he is more widely known, taught what
he believed in regards to segregation, racism, and discrimination. Growing up in a large family with
a father Earl Little, a Baptist minister, and his mother Louis Little, who was a homemaker,
Malcolm's life at the time seemed very promising. His father's involvement in support of the Black
National gained him many death threats at the hands of white supremacists. In 1929, they lost their
house to fire, and two years later the body of Malcolm's father was found mutilated. This lead to the

more details of Malcolm's life inside the steel bars. Since no one was in jail with him that was
interviewed in the film, we could not get a good presentation of others' views of his experiences in

group, Elijah Mohammed had a central idea that all white men were devils. In learning this,
Malcolm thought back to all of the white people he had previously encountered. It is easier for us to

Replacing his last name with "X" did more than just change his name, it changed his personality. He
changed his last named because he did not want to be connected in any way with his old last name

as though the movie was very helpful in learning about him as Malcolm X. The book would tell us

Riel, caught up in the battle, condemned a man named Thomas Scott as a traitor to the provincial
government and shot him. This action enraged the anti–Catholic and anti–French communities. In
addition, Riel was elected into the Canadian House of Commons in 1873–74 but was denied his
seat. He was pardoned in 1875 on the condition he would leave Canada. Both these incidents

Although the majority of black people in America do not consider themselves members of the NOI,
the group still attempts to represent all black people. And, because of the strong messages of
strength, unity, and betterment of the black race, the NOI reaches the hearts and minds of many

Nation Of Islam is a very interesting religion. Did you know that followers of the religion also
supported black separatism, which means they did not want to be accepted with white people. Also,
some famous people were affiliated with Nation Of Islam. Muhammad Ali was one of them, in 1959

Muhammad was leader from 1934 to 1975. Elijah Muhammad was an adviser to many important
people including Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan, Muhammad Ali, and also his son. After Elijah
Muhammad died, his son Warith Mohammed took over but he had other beliefs, he decided to take

22. During that time in Detroit, Marcus Garvey was an orator and leader to the black community.
Pool traveled to Chicago to hear one of Garvey's messages. Garvey's message conveyed the ideas of
the redemption of Africa, an independent black economy, the importance of racial identity, and the

decided to give it a few more days. The boy had only been back at the cabin for about three days
now. They had found him Friday night and he officially returned to the cabin early Saturday
morning. It was Tuesday night now and things weren't looking much better.
"I can do it Niall. Go get cleaned up." Liam sighed noticing how wet his omega was getting. Niall

Malcolm X's significance is still existent till this day. He might have not been able to fully address
his final ideology to the world, but he was able to show people the real meaning of being a human.
He was capable of convincing people of his beliefs regardless of their accuracy using his great
charisma and leadership skills. Adding to that, when he found out that most of his beliefs were
imprecise he did not hesitate to let his followers know about it, ignoring the danger he was getting

decide to change. Malcolm's ability to read and write were premature, when reading, Malcolm
would skip the words that he didn't know or understand and would end up with a clouded view on

but after the second reading, I found out that the style of Malcolm X really is translated well to the

appreciated Malcolm's choice to leave the big parts of the previous chapters, which relate with

Qualities Of Malcolm X
Malcolm X is a historical figure that is remembered by all. His efforts love on without him as
America attempts to follow his main principle and "live together in justice and love" (Shabazz xvii).
Malcolm X was an honest and fair man that developed his persona by accepting his faults, voicing
his opinions, and treating everyone equally. His qualities were expressed in his autobiography as he
developed from a misguided teenager to a freedom fighter. Malcolm was recognized for accepting
his faults to others. Even his daughter, Atallah Shabazz, recollects about his bluntness. In the text it
states, "Hustling, numbers running, stealing... Indeed these accounts were factual and he was always
the first to tell them" (Haley & Shabazz xv). This quote recalls all of Malcolm's misguided, illegal
actions as a teenager. Not only does it show perseverance in change, but, it glorifies his honesty as
Malcolm is the first one that owns up to his mistakes. Another example of his honesty is mentioned
when he starts his rendezvous with "Sophia". In the text it states, "One of the shames that I have
carried for years is that I blame myself for all of this. To have treated her as I did for a white woman,
made the doubly heavy" (Haley & Shabazz 72). In this passage, Malcolm hurts the feelings of a
genuine girl that he, himself has feelings for to go after a white woman that would boost his ego.

By definition, civil rights are the rights of citizens to political and social equality. To simplify that,
civil rights are rights that every person should have, no matter what race, color, ethnicity, etc. Some
people believed so strongly that everyone should have civil rights, they were willing to risk their
own lives for it. People such as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Elizabeth
Eckford, Ernest Green, Hazel Massery, and many others. One of the many civil rights activists was
Malcolm Little, who later changed his name to Malcolm X. Malcolm X was one of the activists who
fought back violently. All of these civil rights activists wanted generally the same thing. "Dr. King

black history. Malcolm X is from Omaha, Nebraska, he was in prison for burglary, during his time in
prison then came the passion for knowledge and he wants to build his vocabulary on how to speak,

he comes across an article that made mention of H. L. Mencken being a fool and wants to know the

The Nation of Islam is a subsection of the Islamic religion which aims to enlighten and engage
Black Americans, in hopes of freeing them from the oppression of their white counterparts. Though
the NOI make efforts to uplift Black people and teach respect for all people, it is often contemplated
whether or not the organization has pure intentions at its core. This can be due to the fact that there
have been leaders of the organization that teach ideologies that are those of hate, which goes against

I was left wondering why the organization calls itself the Nation of Islam when many traditional
Muslims do not accept the group as being apart of their religion. I believed that if I went directly to
the NOI website, then I would find out more information on this topic. On the website, I found a
mission statement of sorts, which reads "The Nation of Islam is one of the wealthiest organizations
in black America. The main purpose of the Nation of Islam is to "teach the downtrodden and
defenseless Black people a thorough Knowledge of God and of themselves, and to put them on the
road to Self–Independence with a superior culture and higher civilization than they had previously
experienced" which, of course, explains the main purpose of the organization, but does not explain
how it is connected to Islam (NOI). If anything, the website pointed out all of the ways in which the
