2. What is history?
History is the study and the documentation of the past.
• "History" is an umbrella term comprising past events as well as
the memory, discovery, collection, organization, presentation,
and interpretation of these events
• History provides a sense of context for our lives and our
existence. It helps us understand the way things are and
how we might approach the future. History teaches us what it
means to be human, highlighting the great achievements
and disastrous errors of the human race.
3. Why study
history?
Studying history enables us to develop better
understanding of the world in which we live.
Building knowledge and understanding of
historical events and trends, especially over the
past century, enables us to develop a much
greater appreciation for current events today.
