A noun is a person, place, or thing.
• a writer, library, and novel are all nouns.
• Science, love, patience are also nouns
• Adjective
An adjective compliments the noun in a sentence.
It does so by telling us more about the noun.
Essentially the adjective modifies the noun.
• I ride a small horse.
• Mary has beautiful big brown eyes
• David Bekham is a rich successful British footballer

A verb is a word that relays what a particular
subject is or does. It is a descriptive word.
– Work, have, paint, be are verbs
• Adverb
an adverb tells us more about verbs,
adjectives or other adverbs.
– He drove slowly
– He drove a very fast car
– She moved quite slowly down the aisle.

• Preposition
The preposition generally precedes a noun or
pronoun. It is used to express a relation to
another element or word.
– The book is on the table
– Elena is coming with Frank
– The class starts at 5:00 pm

• Conjunction
Conjunctions are used to join two parts of a
sentence. Common conjunctions include:
– and, or, nor, for, but, since, unless, and although.
• Interjection
Interjections are essentially short
exclamations such as:
– Hi!, Ah!, Um or Ugh!
