TOPIC: A STUDY ON THE KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS REGARDING THE BANKING
SERVICES AND ITS USAGE AMONG COMMERCE HIGHER SECONDARY STUDENTS

INTRODUCTION
In the era of competition, it is imperative that an economy should be very strong. A bank
caters to the needs of all sections of the economy. Without effective and efficient banking system no
country can stand strong. . A bank is the heart of an economy. A bank plays an important role in
regulating finance and providing different functions and services. Whether it is opening different accounts,
withdrawal of money, transfer of funds, is making payments of electricity bills, insurance, discounting
bills of exchange etc.
If the banking services in a country is effective, efficient, initiative and innovative it can
bring rapid development. Today banks not only do local banking business but much more than this. It is
fast changing into a global bank dealing with global customers using latest technologies. When the bank
changes products and level of services according to the changing environment and to the needs of socio-
economic environment, it justifies dynamic approaches. So many changes are coming in banking services
and functions so; students have to make them aware with these changes.
Higher secondary students have to be well informed about which a/c will be more useful
to them, so they can add to their portfolio management. By using all the facilities provided by the banks,
time and cost can be saved; but only when they are aware of regulations, policies and terminologies of
banks.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE
Usually students who completed their graduate degree in any stream are not capable
to do the transaction of their own. The higher secondary commerce students have only awareness
regarding the theory o banking system. But they do not know the rules, regulations amended by
RBI time to time.
This study helps to know how much our higher secondary students are aware of
banking system and to understand the awareness of students to use the banking services.
STATEMENT OF YHE PROBLEM
The study is entitled as” A study on the knowledge and awareness regarding the
banking services and its usage among commerce higher secondary students.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
 To know the knowledge of Higher secondary students about banking.
 To know the awareness of higher secondary students about banking services and its usage.
METHODOLOGY
 METHOD
The investigator adopted survey method for collecting data.
 SAMPLE
The investigator adopted 30 Commerce students of Govt.H.S.S Kalanjoor.
 TOOL USED
The investigator adopted questionnaire for collecting data.

 Majority(97%) respondent said that they have bank account.
 90% of the respondent said that they are aware of the different accounts of banks.
 Most of the student opinion was they know the procedure related to open an account in the
bank.
 Most of the respondent said that they are aware of the different services of a bank.
 70% of the respondent said that they know how to deposit money in a bank.
 53% of the respondent opinion was they are aware o the importance of filling nomination.
 Majority of the respondent said that they had seen different slips available for banking
transactions.
 Most of the respondent said that they know how to fill a pay in slip.
 83% of the respondent said that they never seen fixed deposit document.
 Majority of the respondent said that they never used the online banking services and mobile
banking.
 Most of the students have no debit /credit card
 Most of the student responded that they know what ATM is.
 70% of the respondent said that they did not use ATM facility.
 Majority of the respondent knoe how to transfer money form one account to another an
procedure relate to withdraw money rom bank.
FINDINGS
 Students are aware of different types o bank account.
 Students know the procedure related to open an account in the bank
 Students are aware of the different services of bank.
 Students know how to deposit money in a bank and withdraw money from bank.
 Students know how to fill pay in slip.
 Students never seen fixed deposit document.
 Students never used online banking services ,ATM facility and DD.
 Students did not know how to transfer money from one account to another.
CONCLUSION
A study was conducted on the topic knowledge an awareness regarding the banking
services and its usage among commerce higher secondary students. This study revealed that
students never seen fixed deposit document, they are unaware of dealing online banking services ,
mobile banking , ATM facility and also they are unaware of how to transfer money from one
account to another, These lack of knowledge can be solved only through practical approach. So it
should be added in the syllabus.

  • 2. INTRODUCTION In the era of competition, it is imperative that an economy should be very strong. A bank caters to the needs of all sections of the economy. Without effective and efficient banking system no country can stand strong. . A bank is the heart of an economy. A bank plays an important role in regulating finance and providing different functions and services. Whether it is opening different accounts, withdrawal of money, transfer of funds, is making payments of electricity bills, insurance, discounting bills of exchange etc. If the banking services in a country is effective, efficient, initiative and innovative it can bring rapid development. Today banks not only do local banking business but much more than this. It is fast changing into a global bank dealing with global customers using latest technologies. When the bank changes products and level of services according to the changing environment and to the needs of socio- economic environment, it justifies dynamic approaches. So many changes are coming in banking services and functions so; students have to make them aware with these changes. Higher secondary students have to be well informed about which a/c will be more useful to them, so they can add to their portfolio management. By using all the facilities provided by the banks, time and cost can be saved; but only when they are aware of regulations, policies and terminologies of banks. NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE Usually students who completed their graduate degree in any stream are not capable to do the transaction of their own. The higher secondary commerce students have only awareness regarding the theory o banking system. But they do not know the rules, regulations amended by RBI time to time. This study helps to know how much our higher secondary students are aware of banking system and to understand the awareness of students to use the banking services. STATEMENT OF YHE PROBLEM The study is entitled as” A study on the knowledge and awareness regarding the banking services and its usage among commerce higher secondary students.
  • 3. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY  To know the knowledge of Higher secondary students about banking.  To know the awareness of higher secondary students about banking services and its usage. METHODOLOGY  METHOD The investigator adopted survey method for collecting data.  SAMPLE The investigator adopted 30 Commerce students of Govt.H.S.S Kalanjoor.  TOOL USED The investigator adopted questionnaire for collecting data.   • 4.  All the respondent visit bank  Majority(97%) respondent said that they have bank account.  90% of the respondent said that they are aware of the different accounts of banks.  Most of the student opinion was they know the procedure related to open an account in the bank.  Most of the respondent said that they are aware of the different services of a bank.  70% of the respondent said that they know how to deposit money in a bank.  53% of the respondent opinion was they are aware o the importance of filling nomination.  Majority of the respondent said that they had seen different slips available for banking transactions.  Most of the respondent said that they know how to fill a pay in slip.  83% of the respondent said that they never seen fixed deposit document.  Majority of the respondent said that they never used the online banking services and mobile banking.  Most of the students have no debit /credit card  Most of the student responded that they know what ATM is.  70% of the respondent said that they did not use ATM facility.  Majority of the respondent knoe how to transfer money form one account to another an procedure relate to withdraw money rom bank. FINDINGS  Students are aware of different types o bank account.  Students know the procedure related to open an account in the bank  Students are aware of the different services of bank.  Students know how to deposit money in a bank and withdraw money from bank.  Students know how to fill pay in slip.  Students never seen fixed deposit document.  Students never used online banking services ,ATM facility and DD.  Students did not know how to transfer money from one account to another.
  • 5. CONCLUSION A study was conducted on the topic knowledge an awareness regarding the banking services and its usage among commerce higher secondary students. This study revealed that students never seen fixed deposit document, they are unaware of dealing online banking services , mobile banking , ATM facility and also they are unaware of how to transfer money from one account to another, These lack of knowledge can be solved only through practical approach. So it should be added in the syllabus.
