Nations Conference on Road and Motor
Transport, 1949 and Vienna Convention on

Vehicles Act, 1988.

It should be visible to the drivers both
during approach and while making the
turn (with minimum clear visibility
distance). This design principle may
also be used for signs indicating street
names in urban areas, which may be
designed for the font height of 30 mm
to 50 mm.

Road Marking
This is called a STOP LINE. Stop Line painted before the edge of the road
intersection and it meant whenever the traffic is expected to stop, you
should have to stop your vehicle just before the stop line. The jumping or
crossing of the stop line is an offence.
The alternate black and white lines painted across the road are called
zebra-crossing or PEDESTRIAN CROSSING. This is the place through
which pedestrians used to cross the road. Be careful and stop your
vehicle before such pedestrian crossing whenever necessary.
These parallel broken white lines are called GIVE WAY LINE and it
meant that you have to give way to oncoming traffic on major road
ahead of you.
This continuous white line is called BARRIER LINE. It
indicates that driver should not overtake in this area.

Road Marking
These broken white lines separate a road in to a two lane road. These
lines generally used as centre line in two-way roads. It is very essential
for traffic safety.
These broken white lines are called lane separators. It is used as
lane markings in a road on same direction.
This type of continuous parallel two white lines means that
driver is not permitted to overtaking.
A continuous yellow colour line at the edge of road indicates
that no vehicle will be allowed to park on the side of the road.
Abroken white line if changing in to a solid continuous white line it
indicates that no lane changing will allow till the continuous white line
becomes a broken line again.

1.Section 118 :Road use regulation made under section 118 Motor vehicles
act under 1988.
2.Section 122:Leaving Vehicle in dangerous position, like to cause danger,
obstruction to other users of the public place made under the section 122
Motor vehicle s act 1988.
3.Section 123:Riding on running Board : No person driving or carry any
person on the running boards or on the top or bonnet of a motor vehicle made
under section 123 of motor vehicles Act 1988.
4.Section 129: wearing of protective Hear Gear: Every person driving or riding
while in public place wear head protective gear (Helmet)made under section
129 Motor vehicle 1988.
5.Section 134 :Duty of driver in case of Accident and injury to a person: Take
all reasonable steps to secure medical attention for the injured person and
give necessary information to police.

6.Section 183:Driving at excessive Speed Driver of a motor vehicle in
contravention of speed limit shall be punishable with fine .
7.Section 184:Drive a motor vehicles at speed or in a manner which is
dangerous to the public shall be a punishable offence with imprisonment
,made under section 184 of motor vehicles Act 1988.
8.Section 185:Driving by a Drunken person or by a person Under Influence of
Drugs: Any Driver in his blood ,alcohol exceeding 30mg/100 ml of blood
detected in test by breath analyser, shall punishable for the first offence with
imprisonment. Made under Section 185 of motor Vehicle Act 1988.
9.Section 186:Driving When Mentally or Physically Unfit to Drive shall be
punishable for the first offence with fine.
10.Section 190:Using Vehicle in unsafe Condition shall be punishable offence
.
11.Section 203: Breath Test A police officer or any authorised person behalf of
vehicle department to take one or more specimens of breath for breath test.
