1. What have you learnt
about technologies from
the process of
constructing this
product?
2. On a whole I have learnt that technology,
especially digital technology has become
extremely advanced compared to the older
analogue technology. This therefore means
that user generated content is becoming
vastly popular, mainly down to the fact that it
is becoming much easier to create our own
media products, through equipment, computer
programs and the particularly the internet.
This means average people can produce their
own media products, and other people can
consume these products, through the internet
for example. This is called prosumer.
3. Music videos can be easily made by
essentially anyone due to the development of
digital equipment. For example, to make a
music video you will need to film it on a
camera, which are becoming
cheaper, lighter, and even more flexible, so
anyone who can get their hands on a digital
camera can potentially create their own music
video or other media products. Technologies
during the production process are becoming
more advanced but simple to use, so
prosumers can create music videos to a high
standard in no time at all! It makes the
production process a lot less time consuming.
4. iMac’s are quickly becoming more advanced with
top of the art programs such as iTunes, iMovie, Final
Cut Express and garage band, where average
people can create, edit and distribute their own
media products. The internet is also becoming large,
where social sites such as YouTube, Facebook and
Twitter means that people all over the world can
view personally made music videos and receive
feedback. Distribution is extremely cheap or even
free, for example, YouTube is a free distributor of
videos where anyone can upload videos and receive
comments from others.
5. During the planning process, Youtube was one
major online program that was essential, as we
were able to look at real music videos and were
able to gather up some ideas for our own. After we
produced our video, we put it up on Youtube so
other people were able to view it as well as
comment on it, which was helping to get feedback
from others in order to find out what went well and
what could have been improved. Without these
technologies, our music video would not be as
successful as it turned out to be.
6. During the production process, I personally learned how
to use final cut express which I have never used before.
Previously, I had only ever been exposed to iMovie and
so only knew how to use this program, the same as my
partner. We both decided to edit our music video in
iMovie, simply because I knew how to work with it and
knew all the functions fairly well, whereas with ‘Final Cut
Express’, learning how to use it would have be time
consuming and would waste valuable editing time.
However, I did get the chance to learn how to use Final
Cut Express when we transferred our video from iMovie
to Final Cut Express to colour correct all the clips. We
decided to learn at this stage as we were well on
schedule and had enough time to work out how to use
this program. Final Cut Express is an example of a
computer program that shows how advanced technology
has become, and we found the effects that can be
created on this program is of a very high professional
standard.
7. Despite having used Blogspot last year and
knowing some general knowledge on how it
works, all of my group members were not blogging
as much as this year as we shared just one
individual blog. I therefore learnt a few extra
things, such as uploading content to ‘Sound Cloud’
and the fact you need to imbed certain work before
uploading onto Blogspot. Even though I didn’t use
‘labels’ on Blogspot, it was still good to have
knowledge on how to use it, so I can use Blogspot
to present future work.
8. One final point to put across about technologies is
how communication between people is becoming
increasingly easier. As mobile phones are
convergent gadgets, it means sending photos to
one and other can be done almost instantly. The
fact that Tyra and I were good at communicating
through the use of our phones meant that we could
keep each other up to date with new ideas, issues
with planning/editing, meant issues could be dealt
with quickly and efficiently, which 15 years back
would not have been so much of the case. I think
that in total, without all these technologies, the
production of our music video and distribution would
not have been successful.
