3. RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
• Residential electricity consumption - much of it from major home appliances - accounts for about one fifth of
energy-related greenhouse gas emissions ( (Everett Shorey, 2015).
• The misuse and abuse of electrical energy has contributed to a lot more damage to the environment and safety
hazards.
• Figures show that 8% of the total electricity used in our homes comes from appliances left on standby.
• Wasted energy from appliances left on standby is responsible for 4m tons of excess carbon dioxide each year
(Aldred, 2017).
• It is reported that electrical failures or malfunctions were the second leading cause of electrical home fires in
2015–2019 accounting for 13% of home structure fires.
• The main goal of this study is to produce a safety device that could lessen residential electrical consumption
and at the same time, minimizes the risk of electrical fires due to unattended appliances.
• This safety device is a motion sensor electrical wire power disruptor that aims to disrupt electricity when it
detects no motion in the vicinity

4. PROBLEM/QUESTION
This research aims to determine the energy conservation and safety motion censored extension wire power
disruptor. More specifically, this research aims to answer the following:
1. To be able to create a device that can cut off power supply when there is no motion detected
2. To determine the benefits of having this device in households and facilities
3. To be able to know what situations and applications that this device can be used for
4. To determine potential hazards this device could help us prevent or mitigate
5. To discover how the device stands in terms of its Durability, Cost and Safety

8. EXPECTED OUTPUT/ OUTCOME
The proposed study by the researchers will create a motion sensor extension wire power disruptor. This device
can significantly reduce electricity consumption because if the motion sensor does not detect any motion within
10 minutes, the relay will cut off the electricity from the extension wire, causing any device plugged into it to
turn off. Electric fans and lights are examples of devices that can be plugged into the device. However, the
device can still be modified to accommodate a much wider range of electrical devices.
