To Smoke or Not to Smoke in Public Essay
To Smoke or Not To Smoke in Public People have strong feelings concerning smoking in public
places. Whether you are in favor of or in opposition to it, smoking in public places is a serious
concern that need be addressed. I agree that it is unjust for smokers not to be allowed to smoke
where they choose, but it is even more unreasonable for non smokers to be subjected to breathing in
the exhaled smoke form someone else(passive smoking). Not to mention second–hand smoke is
actually worse for someone than smoking itself. Along with the dangers second–hand smoke
presents to the adults, think about what it does not only to your children but other children around
you. Smokers may argue that non smokers can just as easily walk away as a smoker ... Show more

Second–hand smoke increases a person's chances of getting coronary disease by up to thirty percent.
Second–hand smoke also raises the chances of lung and other types of cancer. Each year there are
approximately 53,000 deaths from lung cancer and respiratory problems and 25,000 of them are
from non smokers. Although that is a long term issue, there are more issues that present themselves
instantly. Itchy eyes, runny nose, coughing, hives, and excessive phlegm are just a few.
As parents, it is our job to protect our children and that includes the unseen dangers of second–hand
smoke. Some of the dangers to children include asthma, lower respiratory illness, middle ear
infections, reduced lung growth or sudden infant death syndrome. When children are developing,
and are subjected to passive smoking (second–hand smoke), their lung and brain function can be
stunted. Middle ear infections can be painful to children and if left untreated can cause permanent
damage to their hearing. Even just short exposure of second–hand smoke to children can cause
lifelong illnesses for them.
Those earlier mentioned things are just the medical reasons for not allowing smoking in public.
Children should not be penalized for the bad decisions of adults. For instance children may not be
able to play sports or outdoor activities if smoking in public is not completely banned. A lot of

Marijuana as a Subculture Essay
A subculture is a group of people who share a distinctive set of cultural beliefs and behaviors that
differ in some significant way from that of larger society. Marijuana smokers can be considered a
subculture for many reasons. Marijuana is used by millions of people around the world, either for
recreational, spiritual, or therapeutic reasons. Some call themselves the cannabis connoisseurs;
people who respect cannabis and use it responsibly. Few drugs have been so politicized recently as
marijuana has. It is frequently praised by one side and condemned by the other, on the basis of
emotional issues rather than an objective view of research.
It was 1920 when smoking began to catch on in the United States. Its recreational use was ... Show

On every marijuana related website I visited I found there was a glossary. All of them were very
similar. Some examples of different words contained in the glossary follow. The words high, stoned,
blazed, and wasted are all defined as being under the influence of marijuana. Blades, skins, papers,
and blunts are all synonyms for the paper used to roll marijuana. Joints and blunts are used to
described as rolled marijuana, like a cigarette. The inhalation of marijuana smoke is called taking a
hit, drag, or toke. A bong or bowl is used to smoke marijuana. There are hundreds of different names
for marijuana, some of the most popular are: pot, reefer, weed, bud, chronic, ganja, green, grass,
mary jane, and herb. They also have some symbols that represent things. A very popular one is the
marijuana leaf. It can be seen a lot of places such as a bumper sticker or in graffiti. 420 is another
common one, it is the number used to represent marijuana or the smoking of it. The best explanation
of this is it's the California police code for possession of marijuana.
Their subculture has a number of beliefs that differ from mainstream society as well. One belief is
that marijuana use is increasing rapidly globally and The War on Drugs is a failure. This is one of
their strongest beliefs. They are very correct about both points. The unsuccessful War on Drugs is
very costly, and

Essay On Marijuana Vs Cigarettes
Marijuana and Cigarettes are both things that all Americans have heard about. Man untrue ideas
have been spread about both products. Marijuana is not legal and it may not be as harmful as
cigarettes. Marijuana is less harmful to the brain, body, and environment than cigarettes.
When someone smokes a cigarette they say they feel a sensation all over their body. Users may
experience different feelings. Many people say it creates a relaxing feeling all over the body, some
say it helps to clear their head, and some say they like the taste of the cigarette.
Marijuana creates a different sensation in the body. Marijuana can be used in different ways
including using a bong, a pipe, or rolling it into a hollowed out cigarette called a joint or ... Show

Marijuana has linked to, lack of motivation, anxiety, reduced sexual capacity, confusion, mood
changes, and schizophrenia–like brain changes, however all of these effects have not been proven. A
study in 1999 concluded that heavy–users of marijuana over a 15 year period had not had any
negative impacts on the users intelligence. (Armentano) These facts combined together show that
both drugs have an effect on the brain but neither worse than they other.
Addiction is another factor with any drug. Cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive.
86.6% of people who smoke cigarettes daily get addicted to smoking. Marijuana does not have as
high of an addiction rate this is because it does not contain nicotine and is made up of THC. Studies
have shown that 9% of people who smoke marijuana on a daily basis will become addicted to it.
These numbers are drastically different and show how different the drugs are.
One of the most similar things between marijuana and cigarettes are the reasons people use the drug.
Cigarettes are used by people of all ages. Most smokers began smoking in their teens. Nine out of
ten smokers started before they were eighteen. 99% of smokers started smoking before age 26
(Youth and Tobacco Use). Many young adults begin to smoke cigarettes to look cool, to be
rebellious, or peer pressure. Adults smoke for many reasons as well including addiction, they say it
relieves stress, to lose weight, and many others.

Employee Motivational Session
In my opinion, this session went extremely well, however in the beginning of the session; Amanda
was not ready to change as evidenced by her repeatedly stating, "Smoking marijuana is not a big
deal." I found this to be a challenge because although Amanda's kids were removed she still was not
ready to proceed with change as indicated by her stating that "it's not hurting anyone." After
Amanda stated why she was visiting me, I began the session with an affirmation, by telling Amanda
that "I knew that it took a lot for her to come and willingly share openly with me, and I thanked her
for that."
By stating this I showed support and empathy to Amanda which is something she needed because
she thanked me and stated that "no one sees the good and me." Through Amanda stating this, it
shows me that she has lost motivation because of past encounters with people judging her. Amanda
also stated, "I feel like I can talk to you and you are willing to listen to my side." This statement

The Flight Of The Plane
On February 7, 2006, UPS flight number 1307, a regular night–time package flight from Atlanta to
Philadelphia, had been a normal flight but, just after receiving clearance to land on runway 27R, the
flight crewmembers reported that they had a smoke warning light come on. Smoke was coming out
of the aircraft as it landed. The flight crewmembers evacuated the airplane after it landed. The flight
crewmembers had minor injuries, and most of the cargo and the airplane were destroyed by the fire
after landing. The NTSB determined that the probable cause of this accident was an in–flight cargo
fire that initiated from an unknown source, which was most likely located within the cargo area.

The Smoke Signals Forgiveness Essay
The Smoke Signals Forgiveness
Smoke Signals, written by Sherman Alexie and directed by Chris Eyre, begins on July 4, 1976 on
the Coeur d' Alene Reservation. Arnold Joseph (Gary Farmer), drunk while celebrating the
"independence", lit off a firework and set the Builds–the–Fire residence on fire, killing the parents
of Thomas Builds–the Fire. Many people were already asleep in the house when the fire started, so
no one saw Arnold's mistake, which he kept a secret from the whole reservation. Both Thomas
Builds–the–Fire (Evan Adams) and Victor Joseph (Adam Beach), Arnold's son, were saved from the
burning house. Arnold ran to catch Thomas in his arms after Thomas was thrown from a window.
Victor and Thomas grew up together. After the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day, Arlene received a call from Arnold's neighbor in Phoenix, Suzy Song (Irene Bedard),
saying that Arnold had died and that someone should probably come down to Phoenix to take care
of the death. This meant that Victor had to take a bus to Phoenix to get Arnold's possessions and
drive his truck back to the reservation. There was just one problem, Victor didn't have the money for
a bus pass, but Thomas did. The catch was, if Thomas gave Victor some money to go to Phoenix,
Thomas got to come along too. Victor had no other choice but to accept the offer. And the journey
begins.
Victor and Thomas had never been off the reservation before. They experienced what it's really like
to be a Native American in the real world. On the bus ride there, two white men took their seats and
made rude comments about them being Native Americans. They received a lot of stares and
uncomfortable looks from people as well. The bus ride to Phoenix was hard for Victor because he
had to deal with Thomas talking the whole time. Victor especially didn't like it when Thomas
brought up his father in conversation.
In Phoenix, Thomas and Victor walked many miles through the desert to get to Arnold's old trailer.
Suzy Song lived in a trailer there as well. They met Suzy right away, and she was very helpful. She
and Thomas told stories to each

The Pros And Cons Of Marijuana
This generation is only children from 1990's to 2000's smoking cannabis. Over the years, there has
been a lot of chances shown that children have been smoking marijuana. In the years since 2012,
Colorado legalized recreational marijuana and every since then there has been traffic deaths, poison
control calls and emergency room visits(USA Today). The United States should be aware of this
because there are children who are abusing it. There are children who are blacks and latinos in
Colorado and all across the United States. These young children are being imprisoned for the use of
marijuana and possession of having it on them. There are high risks in metabolic syndrome as they
are growing up. The psychosocial factors are being assessed in personality, environmental, and
behavioral variables. A law that keeps marijuana illegal can help fix problems related to addiction,
physical, and mental health. This would make the world a little more safer.
Marijuana is highly addictive when using this substance at an early age or every day. During these
couple years, children has been getting under the table marijuana. That is very much illegal. There
are adults who gives marijuana to children. Starting at a young age, would make it easy to become
addicted to it. This substance affects everything that is not good for you. "It affects the whole matter
of the brain" (Dr. Drew). Dr. Drew made this conclusion because he moved to California for
research on this topic. He found that patients

How Is the Continual Battle of Nature vs Human Technology...
Explain how Bradbury uses this story to question human's reliance on technology
The house was created for the sole purpose of serving mankind.
The house cannot save the family, or humans, from the viciousness of a nuclear bomb.
By the time the reader is exposed to the house, the owners have been eradicated, "their images
burned on wood in one titanic instant". The house continues to make breakfast, have little robotic
mice that clean the house, and even read poetry for, essentially, no one.
When the story begins, it appears that machinery has triumphed over humans.
Humankind might have fallen beneath the powerful nuclear bomb, but technology has not.
Furthermore, while the family relied on the house to take care of ... Show more content on

Instead of a family having to cook and clean, the house does it for them. There is no love within the
house. While it would require more work, perhaps it would be more meaningful for a family to work
together to keep their house running properly. Instead of being a mere house, it would become a
home.
Techniques Bradbury uses throughout the story?
1) Personification
2) Foreshadowing
3) Suspense
1) The most often used literary technique to describe the house is personification, where you give
inanimate objects human–like characteristics. The stove is given human actions, "In the kitchen the
breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior...". This passage shows that
Bradbury has given a breakfast stove the ability to hiss a sigh. Stoves are not physically able to sigh.
Rain is personified, "And the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing". The rain did not literally tap
on the house, it means that the rain was making noise as it fell and came into contact with the house.
2) Bradbury uses is foreshadowing, hinting clues that suggest events that will later happen. The
voice–clock sang, worriedly, "...Ticktock, seven o' clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o'
clock! As if it were afraid that nobody would". This shows that the house was sensing something
was going to be different today. It foreshadows that something bad may happen. There is a fire in the
house, "Smoke and silence. A great

Persuasive Speech Against Marijuana
Marijuana is a magical plant that has been used and accepted in every culture it had been introduced
in up until it was made illegal in the United States. In fact, after declared illegal, the use of it greatly
increased and has been rising ever since. It's legalization is sweeping the world, and now in
California marijuana is a legal, regulated substance available to those over 21. I've heard some false
information going around and I'd like to clear the air about it. These are the raw facts with
absolutely no bias. Myth: Marijuana is extremely addictive. Long term marijuana users grow
dependent, suffer from withdrawal, and often need professional drug treatment to break their
marijuana habits. Fact: There is no physical addiction to marijuana. ... Show more content on

While I may be young (20 years old), I am far from being liberal, and far from being uninformed. In
fact I consider myself a strict conservative. I believe in the ideals of limited government and
promoting citizens to be independent contributors to our nation's economy and our nation's general
welfare. Individuals know how to run their lives better then the federal government. The
government should only interfere if people's rights, as defined by our Constitution, are being
restricted or violated. I feel legalizing marijuana for private recreational use does not violate
anyone's rights. It is not the government's job to enforce morality. Morality is subjective, so what
gives the Federal Government the authority to decide what is morally right or morally wrong? If you
do not share this viewpoint look at previous politicians. Former President Bill Clinton had several
affairs while serving in the Oval Office, and lied under oath. Mark Foley had inappropriate
relationships with young boys serving as pages for the Congressman. Many politicians are
stereotyped as lying conmen who would do anything for a vote. Are these the type of people you
want defining right and wrong? Another reason society should not give moral authority to the
Federal Government is because it violates the First Amendment. Freedom of

Smoke Complaint Response Paper
Tier 1 – Volunteer Staff
Project title: Smoke Complaint Response
Lead Agency: Kittitas County Public Health Department
Partner Agencies: Local Fire Departments
Goal: Reduce the number of households with high opacity smoke emissions and improve burning
related behaviors in response to complaints.
Description: When KCPHD receives a complaint about wood smoke, letters are sent to the entire
neighborhood. This provides an educational opportunity to advertise the benefits of certified
woodstoves, establish clean burning practices and distribute relevant information to wood–burning
hotspots.
Project Methods:
1. Complaints received by phone or email at KCPHD are logged into an internal complaint tracking
system, CAMAS, by the complaint recipient.
2. Complainants are asked whether they wish to remain anonymous and contact information for the
complainant is recorded if appropriate. The name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The specialist consults a county parcel map and establishes a target area for response that
encompasses the most houses in the immediate vicinity of the complainant.
5. Letters are sent to all residences in the specified area with clean burning information and
suggestions to limit smoke emissions along with information about available wood stove change out
programs.
6. Local fire department staff may become involved in the cases of repeat offenders and are able to
issue fines for egregious outdoor and indoor burning violations.
7. Once a complaint has been closed, the closing date is recorded. A complaint is closed when the
appropriate level of compliance has been achieved or the complaint has been passed on to the
appropriate county or city code enforcement personnel. Currently the air quality program at the
Kittitas County Public Health Department does not have regulatory authority to impose fines
without working through city or county code enforcement. If the issue escalates, Washington State

Common Rules To Make Marijuana Etiquette
Some of your best marijuana memories will involve sharing the experience with others. It is a great
way to create new friendships and bonds. As with anything social, there are certain protocols that
come with sharing. For the most part it boils down to having good manners and being grateful.
If you have been consuming cannabis in social settings for a while marijuana etiquette may come
naturally. For the uninitiated, the unspoken rules can get confusing. To help you conquer your first
marijuana session like a champ, we've outlined some of the most common rules of marijuana
etiquette.
1. Bring your own to share
Marijuana can be expensive, especially when larger numbers of people are involved. That's why it's
important to bring your own marijuana to share with the group. Even if others will have some, it's
polite to offer your own, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Always remove seeds and stems
In the days of marijuana prohibition you would often come across weed full of stems and seeds.
This is less prevalent now that professionally grown marijuana is more available. That being said,
there is really no need to hang on to any seeds (or stems, for that matter) unless you are planning on
growing your own cannabis. They taste bad when burned and they cause your bowl or joint to pop
and spark. As Snoop Dogg says, "No stems, no seeds, no stress."
4. If you can't roll a joint, be honest about it
Rolling a good joint is a learned skill and it takes a lot of practice. We encourage you to practice. A
lot. But don't practice on your group. Smoking a poorly–rolled jay can be a real downer during a
smoking session, resulting in either wasted weed or an unsmokable product. If your rolling skills
aren't quite up to par, let your friends know. Someone else is sure to have the skills.
5. Whomever rolls the joint or blunt should spark it
It is okay to light your own marijuana if you rolled the joint or blunt. If someone else uses your
weed to roll, however, they should light it.
6. Offer guests the first

Alexie uses repetition to create a new definition for Native American culture. Throughout the movie
Alexie tries break the typical Native American stereotypes. The movie can provide an insightful
sense of the lifestyle and emotions of a modern Native American living on the Core d'Alene
reservation is like. Without this setting we cannot understand how Thomas and Victor grew up and
how it has affected them. Alexie uses repetition to provide a new perspective of Native American
culture throughout the film. The dynamic between Victor and Thomas is unusual. Victor is angry
and harsh while Thomas is an optimistic storyteller. The pairing of their friendship creates an
insightful dialogue on what it is like to be a Native American in the 20th century. The real history of
Native Americans has been stereotyped in movie and the more I learn the more you realize their
history has been filled with suffering and injustice, the more I feel the truth of the statement, "We
pay for the sins of our fathers." Every generation inherits the problems of their parents. Each
generation that inherits dysfunctions from their parents have to break free and create a new narrative
for themselves like Victor and the way Alexie uses poetry as narrative his film. Smoke Signals is
about a new generation of Native Americans coming to terms with a painful past and forgive so that
a new generation can move forward.

Essay about The Harmful Effects of Second Hand Smoke
The Harmful Effects of Second Hand Smoke
An Australian courtroom, November 2002, has banned a mother of a ten year old boy from smoking
in her household (Watts). This is because of the numerous harmful effects that go along with second
hand smoke. The court was protecting the child from these dangers; the mother and grandfather both
admitted to smoking approximately 40 cigarettes everyday (Watts). The ruling was done by the anti–
smoking lobby, and was a first for this type of case. The father of the boy brought this case to court
not only because of his concerns for his son, but also because of his son's complaints about the vast
amount of smoke which existed in his household. The boy also stated that he dreaded going ... Show

Children exposed to second hand smoke have a higher risk of developing diseases such as asthma,
bronchitis, ear infections, and allergies. For women, second hand smoke increases their risk of heart
attacks (Page). Many say that second hand smoke is more harmful than first hand smoke. This is
because only 15% of smoke is inhaled by smokers; the other 85% is in the air for nonsmokers to
inhale, whether they want to or not (Page). The dangers that result from second hand smoke include:
cancer, asthma, lung infections, emphysema, heart disease, pneumonia, ear infections, strokes, sinus
infections, nose ear and throat discomfort, nausea, headaches and dizziness. Twenty percent of the
population is at risk for obtaining lung disease due to second hand smoke, and for those who live
with a smoker, there is a thirty percent increase of getting lung cancer or heart attacks (Page).
Nonsmokers can even have carcinogens found in their blood. The bottom line remains: when
somebody smokes, everyone around is effected.
. There are two types of second hand smoke, both which cause dangers for those around them. These
types are mainstream smoke and sidestream smoke (Page). Mainstream smoke refers to the smoke
inhaled and exhaled by the smoker. This is most likely the most common type that people are
exposed to. The other type, sidestream smoke, is the smoke that comes from a cigarette or cigar
burning from an ashtray. This

Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Marijuana
Mary–Jane, cannabis, reefer, hash, pot, grass, tree, ganja, dope, chronic, no matter what you call it,
they're all just disguises for the wacky tobaccy. There's been a recent rise in our country to legalize,
and even promote marijuana use. Whether it be for so–called "medical purposes", or whether it be
because it's our civil liberty, regardless, the citizens of our country are adamant about legalizing
cannabis. At first glance, most people might agree. "What harm could some stoners possibly do?",
"They're going to use it anyway; we might as well tax it.", "If alcohol and cigarettes are legal, why
shouldn't pot be?" are common statements one may hear from those in favor of legalization. Well,
I'm not so easy to convince, and you shouldn't be either. The facts hidden behind the smoke and
mirrors tell a different story, one that doesn't disguise the ugly truth. Marijuana consumption can
have harmful effects on users' behavior, health, and psyche; it is for those reasons that as a nation we
must admit marijuana is not harmless.
Everyone knows what they say about "stoners", they're lazy, they're unmotivated, they fail classes,
they're too high to care about anything. The pro–legalization side (let's call them "pro–leg" or "pro–
leggers" from this point forward) is quick to call these claims dubious and that they lack scientific
backing. However, those sayings about stoners didn't come from nowhere. Research has shown that
cannabis use has "negative effects on attention, memory, and learning [that] can last for days or
weeks... depending on the person's history with the drug" (Abuse). Huh, maybe that explains where
the so called "anti–weed propaganda" came from? There is also research to suggest that "someone
who smokes marijuana daily may be functioning at a reduced intellectual level most or all of the
time" which goes hand–in–hand with the evidence that "students who smoke marijuana have poorer
educational outcomes than their nonsmoking peers" (Abuse). Now is when pro–leggers come in and
claim, "I have a perfect memory, so that statistic is wrong" or "I used marijuana during school, and I
turned out fine." However, both of those claims are fallacious for the same reason; they're hasty
generalizations. Let's take a

The Importance Of Emotions In Advertising
Among the various ways in which people's emotion can be triggered, one common method is to use
an ad, a picture to sell an idea. On 11th July 2016, David Frenay presented some ads online titled
"The Importance of Emotions in Advertising", for which each ad is designed to create a particular
emotion. One ad that pulls my attention was designed to instigate Fear. The topic sentence/claim
above this ad reads "Fear is frequently deployed to deter people from harmful behaviors, such as
smoking or drug abuse." The picture of this ad shows the feed of a lying body presumes death,
covered with white cloth and on one of its toes is hung a postcard that reads "Smoking Kills."
Selling the idea that people should not smoke (Frenay). Generally, to my judgment, the author of
this advertisement didn't do a fine job because the ad presents a two–fold argument. The ad is
effective due to its ethos point of view, and the authors' way of analyzing facts about smoking, but
the picture represented in the ad isn't very effective due to its pathos and logos point of view.
Certainly, the ads appeal to pathos is ineffective due to the fact that the ad has only one postcard that
read "Smoking Kills" (Frenay). To my judgment, that is not enough information. The postcard
should have said, "All Forms of Smoking Kills". Reason being that, smokers have a flippant attitude
of trying to defend themselves, why they smoke something and not the others. Have you ever tried
telling somebody who smokes

I woke to the sound of drilling. The vibrations rattling my skull. My head was throbbing as I sat
myself up, the weariness of fatigue setting in. My clothes were filthy. My pants were stained and
torn as if I had been dragged along the ground. Where was I? And why did my body ache? I
remembered brief flashes. Of medical tools; scalpels, needles, and the harsh smell of antiseptic. Of
peeling white walls. Of a bloodied white lab coat. Then I remembered the cold. Ice freezing and
scratching. Snow biting my exposed skin. I shivered. Rubbing my eyes groggily, I surveyed my
surroundings. The walls were a dirty grey concrete, sealing me into a small, confined space.

With a small screwdriver, I unscrewed the top of the smoke detector and removed it. Using scissors I

addiction for weed into the state championship for football. "What you thinking about Dylan?" said
Andrew. "Man I can't get over how far we have came, from being the back–up of the team to leading
us to a state championship or battling a addiction of weed." "Yeah, it's kind of crazy to think about

have done." said Andrew as he shut off the last slither of light in the room. "Good night Andrew."

Marijuana as a Subculture Essay
A subculture is a group of people who share a distinctive set of cultural beliefs and behaviors that
differ in some significant way from that of larger society. Marijuana smokers can be considered a
subculture for many reasons. Marijuana is used by millions of people around the world, either for
recreational, spiritual, or therapeutic reasons. Some call themselves the cannabis connoisseurs;
people who respect cannabis and use it responsibly. Few drugs have been so politicized recently as
marijuana has. It is frequently praised by one side and condemned by the other, on the basis of
emotional issues rather than an objective view of research.
It was 1920 when smoking began to catch on in the United States. Its recreational use was ... Show

Marijuana smokers are a subculture because they share sets of beliefs, values, language, and other
things that are different from the views of the larger society. They look at things another way
because they are pro marijuana, which differs from the rest of society. It is the differences that
distinguish part of a culture from the rest.
They speak the same language as the rest of the culture but they have a different set of definitions
for certain words. On every marijuana related website I visited I found there was a glossary. All of
them were very similar. Some examples of different words contained in the glossary follow. The
words high, stoned, blazed, and wasted are all defined as being under the influence of marijuana.
Blades, skins, papers, and blunts are all synonyms for the paper used to roll marijuana. Joints and
blunts are used to described as rolled marijuana, like a cigarette. The inhalation of marijuana smoke
is called taking a hit, drag, or toke. A bong or bowl is used to smoke marijuana. There are hundreds
of different names for marijuana, some of the most popular are: pot, reefer, weed, bud, chronic,
ganja, green, grass, mary jane, and herb. They also have some symbols that represent things. A very
popular one is the marijuana leaf. It can be seen a lot of places such as a bumper sticker or in
graffiti. 420 is another common one, it is the number used to represent

Summary Of The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian...
Native Americans are mostly judged by their addictions and the battles they fought. They are not
normally judged by the hardships they had to face. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian
and Smoke Signals show that these struggles are real. In his book, The Absolutely True Diary of a
Part Time Indian, and his movie, Smoke Signals, Sherman Alexie wrote about the challenges of
being a Native American. Diary and Smoke Signals are similar because they both showed many
family problems throughout the story lines. Also, they are similar in that the families faced difficulty
with alcohol addiction. They differ because in Diary, the main character, Junior, adapts to his new
school that has all white students while in Smoke Signals, Victor tries not to interact with anyone
outside his race.
First, Diary and Smoke Signals' characters have both had some difficult times dealing with family
problems from abuse to death. In Smoke Signals, Victor's dad, Arnold, physically abused Victor
when he was a child. Immediately after Arnold hit Victor, Arnold said, "I didn't mean to" (Smoke
Signals). The abuse was a large factor into why Arnold left Victor when he was a child. However in
Diary, there is case of abuse involving Rowdy, Junior's friend. Rowdy's father would constantly hit
him. Rowdy would walk around with bruises and scars showing and he acted like he was proud of
them. Junior from Diary also went through a hardship because his grandmother died when she was
hit by a car.

Category Description – Firefighter Rescue Belts
When it is time to bail out of a rescue situation, you want to be able to count on your rescue system.
It can be all that is standing between you and death or serious injury. And the start of any rescue
system is the belt.
First and foremost, all escape belts need to be lightweight. You are already carrying around heavy
equipment. Your belt should not add too much to that. Your belt, even though lightweight, also needs
to be durable. Like all of your other firefighting equipment, it will have to be able to withstand a
pounding, day in, day out.
A belt also has to be easy to use. You need to be able to get your carabiner attached to its ring
(usually a D–ring or a V–ring) in the smoke and

The Destruction Of Society In Lord Of The Flies By William...
Humans kill, whether it be animals, insects or people. The justice system is used to try and fix what
others have done and in this way they are punished. They are punished in a functioning society with
rules and laws, but when all that is stripped away, we are left with mass destruction and humans that
kill. The novel Lord of the Flies, published in 1954 and written by Nobel Prize winning author,
William Golding, portrays the violence and eradication of a functioning society through young boys
stranded on an island. Golding uses the symbol fire and forgetfulness of the need for it to develop
the theme of the loss of society and creation of uncivilized destruction.
Ralph as chief in the beginning of Lord of the Flies uses fire to fuel his main goal as a leader, which
is to get back home. He treats the fire as a necessity and one of the most important assets on the
island. Ralph uses the smoke from the fire as a safety net that keeps him comfortable and with the
hope of getting home. He says, "'And we'll be responsible for keeping a lookout too. If we see a ship
out there...we'll put green branches on. Then there'll be more smoke" (Golding 43). Ralph
emphasizes the need for the smoke as he sees this as one of the only ways that they will ever be
rescued. Ralph is still full of hope for life and escaping. This fire will keep them safe and this fire
will rescue him and all of the others. As chief, he wants others to have the same hope about being
saved that he does which is

Judge Dohi's Case Report
I went to Judge Dohi's court room to see the trial, but when I arrived it had still not begun and he
was doing arraignments. There was a hearing of someone pleading not guilty, so they told him he
had to have a trial before July of next year. Then, there was a pretrial and a misdemeanor hearing.
The trial started and before calling the next witness on stand the attorneys were talking about it. The
next witness had a conversation with the defendant. The defendant had told the witness "don't ever
get your girls name or a girl's name tattooed on yourself." The defense counsel wanted to exclude it
because he though it was common advice. The prosecutor said that the advice given to the witness
can show that the relationship was rocky. I found this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The criminalist also talked about the location of the wounds. One of the witness's conclusion was
that the smaller knife didn't do much of the damage. Further, that the knife without the handle did
most of the damage but not all. Additionally, there was another knife that was similar to the one

demonstrate. The witness also said that she looked at 9 wounds to make her conclusions. The next
witness was another criminalist who opened up DNA and matched DNA from samples to people.
This was draining because the prosecutor had like 5 charts with numbers and she was going through
everything with the witness. I was thinking why doesn't she ask specific questions? Why does the
prosecutor have to go over everything? There was a constant repetition of the witness saying that the
match of the DNA was one in quintillion, which was okay for a few times but it became straining.
Judge Dohi was even trying t speed up the process. The Criminalist focused on DNA did find that

Essay Summer and Smoke
Summer and Smoke
Mr. Thomas Williams (Tennessee,) was born in Columbus, Mississippi to Cornelius Coffin and
Edwina Dankin Williams, March 26 1911. Thomas' family moves to Missouri in 1918, and between
the years of 1929 and 1939 Tennessee attends three different universities. After having written his
first Blanche DuBois scene, from A Streetcar named Desire, in December of 1944, he took a few
months break and wrote his first draft of Summer and Smoke. As a result, the character Alma is seen
having a parallel to Blanche. Also in the year 1937, Tennessee's sister Rose is institutionalized for
schizophrenia. Typically patients with schizophrenia are at times progressive, at times intermediate

Eventually, October 6, 1948, interestingly enough, the play opened before it was eventually
published by New Directions on November 17, 1948. Also, Summer and Smoke was re–written and
published in 1965 under the new title: The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, which was eventually, by
Dramatic Publishing's changed back to Summer and Smoke. Original scenic design was created by
Jo Meizner, who had created a "Skeletonized view of John's office, and an equally Victorian view on
the right, and, in between the town square, presided over by the statue of a kneeling Angel"
(Bordman.) Original stars of the show included Todd Andrews, as John, and Katherine Balfour, as
Alma. The production ran for only 100 performances, after being constantly compared to and
eventually replaced by A Streetcar named Desire. Part of the reason why critics believe this show
was so unsuccessful is because Margo Jones went about this blind eyed, and only had the guide of
Tennessee when she went to visit him, they
blame the poor outcome of this show on its poor staging and directing.
The London premiere of Summer and smoke opened April of 1952, at Circle and Square Theater,
starring Geraldine Paige and running for 356 performances, clearly this production was much better
received than the opening production in New York. Washington's Arena Stage and the Williamstown

about 15 minutes to induce a lethal response... In strict medical terms, marijuana is far safer than

In India marijuana was holy and was given to people by the Hindu god Shiva as a gift. It was taken
as a drink mixed with milk and sugar, and was available to many people because it was inexpensive.
(Abel 33) Use in ancient Rome was noted around 70 A.D. by a physician named Pedacius
Dioscorides in a book about plants and their healing characteristics. The book contained information
that marijuana was a good remedy for earaches, and this treatment was used throughout Europe for
about 1500 years. Recently scientists discovered a body of a woman who died of childbirth 1600
years ago. Close to the body, a burnt substance was found and with later investigation the substance
was determined to be marijuana. Scientists concluded that marijuana was used to ease labor pains
(Abel 33). Marijuana use in the United States is more recent. George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson both grew marijuana on their estates and Washington said to "Make the most of the hemp
seed, and sow it everywhere" (Schleichert 9). During the early 1800's marijuana was sold as extracts
that were said to help cure aliments ranging from migraines and asthma to epilepsy, insomnia,
chronic bronchitis and gonorrhea. Later, around 1890, the medical use of marijuana declined with
the invention of the hypodermic needle. Drugs could now have quicker and more reliable pain relief
and finally in 1941 cannabis was taken out of professional

The Character Analysis Of The Film Smoke Signals
"It's a good day to be indigenous!" (00:04:55– 00:04:56) says Randy Peone, the voice of the KREZ
radio, setting the mood for the whole film, Smoke Signals. Smoke Signals is about Native
Americans, specifically Thomas Builds–The–Fire, played by Evan Adams, and Victor Joseph,
played by Adam Beach, that live on the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation. The story follows these
two proud–to–be–Indian boys all the way through their adulthood. The audience gets to see their
relationship develop from distant "friends" to a brother–like bond. This film is a Native American
masterpiece; however, I believe that the true magic lies in the work of Evan Adams. As soon as
Thomas enters on screen, the audience falls in–love. He wears two side braids, nice suits, and a huge
smile plastered across his face. At the beginning of the film, he is a happy and curious kid that is
everything but refreshing to his "friend" Victor. They both have known each other their entire lives.
One thing that is truly captivating about Evan's performance is his ability to truly encapsulate his
character. While watching the film, one can really see the emotion and feeling in his eyes and in his
voice. In part in particular, he says, "So then he [Arnold, Victor's father] took me to Denny's. It was
afternoon ya' know and I still had the Grand Slam Breakfast, two eggs, two sausages, two slices of
bacon, and pancakes, and some juice, and milk! Ya' know, some days, it's a good day to die, some

A Short Story : A Story?

I groggily opened my eyes to a woman in a lab coat standing in the doorway, speaking with
someone who's face I could not see. I tried to sit up, but all I felt was a distant pain. I laid back
down. My chest felt like it was closing in, and a weight was sitting on my throat. My knee was
covered in gauze and an assortment of other bandages. A taped cotton ball covered up a bruise on
my left wrist, with a white bracelet on the other.
I took in my surroundings: a pale blue curtain, half opened around the bed, a chair, and a small
window, indicating it was morning from the sun peaking through into the room. I couldn't remember
what had happened that brought me here, but everything before that was crystal clear.

Movie Smoke Signals By Sherman Alexie And Chris Eyre
The Truth According to Who Writer Sherman Alexie and director Chris Eyre explore the
relationship between truth and fiction in storytelling and the complexities of the Indian oral tradition
in the movie Smoke Signals. The movie Smoke Signals follows two young Indian men, Victor and

stories are told and truth is often hard to detect. Sherman Alexie and Chris Eyre reveal subtleties

In another layer of story telling the details do not matter but the truthful representation of an idea is
what is critical. In a scene where Victor and Irene are talking about Victors trip Irene is making fry
bread. Irene says of her method of making fry bread "I don't just make it by myself you know, I got
the recipe from your grandmother and she got it from her grandmother and I listen to people when
they eat my bread."(Smoke Signals) Like stories, recipes are handed down from generation to
generation and blended and changed as they are retold or remade. In this way we can see how
stories and recipes are analogous, both represent the oral tradition. While preserving the past they
become something new, not exactly the same but fundamentally the same expression of an idea. The
exact recipe for fry bread and the exact details of a story are not what is important just that they
faithfully express the idea. Irene acknowledges the foundation of her successful recipe but blended
in new ideas and came to make the best fry bread. Sherman Alexie adds a layer of complexity to the
film by letting symbolism tell a separate story within some scenes. Cultural sovereignty and
oppression are themes that run through out Smoke Signals. Many strong symbols elude to this in the
scene when Vincent and Thomas are in the office of the police chief

Arrow Of God And Smoke Signals
Arrow of God and Smoke Signals have similar patterns of fiction, archetypes and philosophies. If
you notice Campells typical hero sequence of actions can be detected in both Arrow of God and
Smoke Signals. "There is a certain typical hero sequence of actions which can be detected in stories
from all over the world from many periods of history. Essentially, it might even be said there is but
one archetypal mythic hero whose life has been replicated in many lands by many people."
(Archetypes pg 6) This sequence is made apparent in Arrow of God. The birth of Ezeulu is unusual
because he is born into priesthood. This priesthood later requires him to travel to Okperi. While in
Okperi, Ezeulu confronts his ego simultaneously while conflicting with the imposing British
Government. Ezeulu then returns to Umuaro having been reborn psychologically.
Campells typical hero sequence holds truth in Smoke Signals as well. Victor's unusual birth in
Smoke Signals is symbolic; he is saved from a tragic house fire as a young baby. This house fire is
the same event that drives his father away from the Coeur d 'Alene Indian Reservation. Inevitably
this later requires Victor to leave home and confront his ego while retrieving his father's remains.
In both Arrow of God and Smoke Signals the events after the heroes' birth are considerably unusual.
This unusual birth is later the motive for the hero to leave home which ultimately results in the
heroes confronting their egos. The heroes then return

Howard Becker Social Control Theory
According to Howard Becker, there are three main steps to becoming a marijuana smoker. First, the
individual must learn to properly smoke marijuana – to yield the real effects. Second, the effects
must be recognized and the individual must be able to connect the effects to the drug use. Finally,
and arguably most important for Becker's theory, the individual must learn to enjoy the side effects
of marijuana, and its use for pleasure. If these three steps are not met, then the individual will no
longer smoke marijuana. Becker attempts to uncover how the changes of attitudes and experiences
affect the individual's possibility of smoking marijuana. Becker's point of view is more micro–level,
looking at the individual's history and how they think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Becker does highlight some important points in that the individual should understand the effects of
the drug and most importantly, should like the side effects of marijuana. However, Becker
downplays and in some cases completely ignores the impact that the individual's environment has
on whether or not they will smoke marijuana. Becker simplifies other people in his theory to
someone who is an experienced marijuana smoker, or in most cases a helper to new smokers. While
Social Control Theory would agree with the experienced smokers being of importance to new and
uneducated smokers, the theory would also put more emphasis on why the experienced smokers are
important. Social Control Theory considers also that the role of peer pressure, and how some
individuals will only smoke marijuana while at a social gathering, or only smokes with a certain
group of people. Becker certainly neglects the "opportunity smokers," who are the smokers who
only smoke at parties. This group could certainly follow the three steps that Becker has outlined, but
Becker's theory fails to explain why those specific people do not smoke alone. Social Control
Theory would also relate to the person's attachment, commitment, involvement, or belief to

Argumentative Essay About Marijuana
Final Essay
Marijuana has become a prominent part of our society. Hundreds of Millions of people around the
world use this drug for a multitude of reasons. According to NBC News, "52 percent of Americans
over 18 have tried marijuana at some point in their lives. The survey, conducted by Yahoo News and
Marist Poll found that not only have most adults in the U.S. smoked pot, 44 percent of those who
tried it once still use it today." Approximately a 2 million people in the US alone use marijuana for
medical purposes (mpp.org) Though the year's marijuana has become increasingly more legal. It is
legal in 29 states, 8 of these states have made it legal for recreational use. People are becoming more
accepting of the drug. This is partially due to pop culture. Stars like Miley Cyrus, The Weekend and
Brendon Urie have all revealed that the smoke pot on a regular basis. Their fame makes them role
models for society and I believe that the fact that they smoke creates validation for the people who
look up to them. As far as medical marijuana is concerned, in a lot of cases, it is still very hard for
the people who need it to get it. The state and federal laws in many cases contradict each other and
this creates issues for people who require it. Also, many doctors tend to be hesitant to prescribe it
because they either don't believe in its healing powers or they don't truly know the effects it can
have on the mind and body. But what are the positive and negative effects or both

Marijuana Should Be Kept Illegal
Marijuana is an unhealthy drug and it can cause a lot more damage than you think. It can cause so
much harm to your body. It is very addicting and people think that it is a harmless little plant but in
reality, it can cause so much harm to your body. So many people in America are smoking Marijuana
and they think that it doesn't do anything to harm them because it is an all natural plant. Marijuana is
smoked all over America and in some places it is illegal and others it it legal. People start smoking
Marijuana at a young age and they don't realize how much damage it is causing to their body. It kills
your brain cells and people think that because it is grown and it doesn't have any chemicals in it,
then it's harmless. It isn't harmless because it can cause so much things that are horrible in your
body. It may take people awhile to realize what Marijuana can cause and the effects from it. The
drug is illegal for a reason. There are short term effects from Marijuana, and there are long term
effects. Long term effects include; reduced resistance to common illnesses like bronchitis. Another
effect is separation from the immune system. Marijuana can also cause short term effects. For
example, distorted sense of time, paranoia, magical or "random" thinking, short–term memory loss,
anxiety, and depression. Marijuana costs tons of energy to plant and to be smoked. Nationwide, the
electricity used by indoor Marijuana growers is enough to power 1.7 million homes.

Cigarettes: The Legalization Of Marijuana
"I don't understand how smoking cigarettes is legal and smoking marijuana is not" is something
many people have heard or argued within their community because through the statistic, health
related problems caused by cigarettes were very high when marijuana have not done serious harm to
anyone. In our society, many people have different views on marijuana, and now that it is legalized
by proposition 64 it will be more accessible to more people. Within our community, it is important
to understand various perspectives and relationships between different groups of people and
marijuana itself.
First, in our community marijuana is widely accepted. Although I do not smoke marijuana due to my

Which explains how smoking marijuana is accepted differently among different people. For
example now that government has allowed residents of California to legally smoke in private
properties, education systems and parents have became more acceptable to the use of marijuana.
Although it is acceptable, I have encountered many of parents and adults that do not recommend the
use of it to the youths because they believe that marijuana will have side effects and downside to
their daily lifestyle such as staying engaged in school, sports, and relationships with significant
others. While adults are slightly against the use of it youths are definitely agrees to the use of
marijuana because they are many of them are going through adolescence and the experience of it is
part of their growth. On the other hand functional theory may be applied to the use of marijuana
since society as whole defines some deviant behavior from smoking marijuana as unacceptable
actions. For example, when marijuana is viewed as the reason why someone is being inactive and
inefficient with their lives they are harshly judged as the "lazy pot head who smokes weed
everyday". This emphasizes that society judges those small group of people who are not attempting
to live the American Dream and is does not have the drive to take advantage of great opportunities
that is in front of them, which creates moral boundaries for many people in the society. Comparing
those two theories, symbolic interactionism has the strength to create a society that is open to other
group's ideas on the view of marijuana whereas functional theory limits and creates a rule with
society as whole which limits the acceptable use of marijuana. On the other hand, the upside of the
functional theory is that it leads to the growth of the society as a whole

Lord Of The Flies Piggy Analysis
"Civilization begins with order, grows with liberty, and dies with chaos." said Will Durant, a famous
author who lived during the 18–1900's. This is relevant to today's society, as well as the novel The
Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In this novel there is a character who goes by the name of
"Piggy". The other children frequently abuse and mistreat piggy while they are stranded on the
island. Golding uses piggy and his glasses to show that when without parental guidance, intelligence
and rationality are essential in order to keep law and order. From the first page of the novel we meet
Piggy. He is a fat child that wears glasses and is considered an outcast to all the other children. The
first thing Piggy questions is "Where's the man with the megaphone?" This reveals that piggy
realizes the need for authority. In life, glasses were made to give people the ability to see, and to
"see" is also a metaphor for knowledge. In the novel Piggys glasses represent knowledge and insight
on what's really happening. Piggy's glasses arent only important to Piggy, as they let him see, his
glasses are also important to everyone else on the island because they create fire. In chapter 2 the
boys were trying to light a signal fire to be rescued, "His specs– use them as burning glasses." They
then used Piggy's glasses as a tool to light the fire. The fire is important to the boys on the island
because without fire there is no rescue. In chapter 5 Ralph calls a meeting to tell the children what
needs to be done, "'The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued
except by luck, if we don't keep a fire going?'"(Golding 80) he says. This shows the importance of
the fire because it symbolizes the boys hope to get rescued. In the previous chapter Piggy noticed
that the smoke had gone out on the mountain. They watched a ship pass by the island, but there was
no smoke signal. "'I can't see no smoke.' said Piggy incredulously. 'I can't see no smoke, Ralph–
where is it?'"(Golding 66). The boys ran to the top of the mountain to start the fire again. They got
into an argument about letting the fire go out and Jack smacked Piggy across the head. His glasses
fell off, hit the rocks below him, and broke

Persuasive Essay On Marijuana
Success in education must be measured through hard work, perseverance, and dedication– not
through the deceiving effects of marijuana. From personal experience, I have had many peers
throughout high school and post–secondary who have claimed to use marijuana to help them
succeed in school. Currently, in the country of Canada, marijuana is an illegal herbal drug used by
many students as a personal key to succeed. Marijuana, also known as "weed", is relatively
inexpensive and easy to come by. Therefore, people use marijuana for various reasons: some use the
drug as a way to release stress, while others use it as a calming agent. Consequently, many of these
students are deceived by the fact that marijuana is potentially harmless. What many do not know–
marijuana can actually be harmful, and that it could pose a potential threat to the student's success in
education. Students should consider avoiding marijuana while pursuing their education as they
could potentially be limiting their success in school. Many users do not take the time to understand
the full effect of the stimulant and they will smoke ridiculous amounts of marijuana to reach that
certain high that will lead them to their idea of "success". These smokers are slowly deconstructing
their futures; the feeling of "keeping chill" is not worth affecting their mind, memory, attention span,
thinking process, and physical body.
Marijuana places many effects on the human body. Conforming to the National Institute on Drug
Abuse, when marijuana is smoked, THC and other chemicals in the plant pass from the lungs into
the bloodstream, which rapidly carries them throughout the body and to the brain (National Institute
on Drug Abuse, 2017). Therefore, many people experience these effects immediately, including
symptoms of relaxation, calmness, and hunger. Considering these effects, you can understand why
many students smoke this drug before starting their day. Smoking marijuana may allow them to pay
attention, keep them calm and assertive during social interaction, and overall clarify the ideas that
are continually being processed while learning something new in class. However, when breaking
this concept down, there are many more negative short–term effects

Stereotypes Of Native Americans In The Film Smoke Signals
In the movie Smoke Signals the writer Sherman Alexie frequently shows stereotypes of the Native
American people and shows the audience why the stereotypes are not true or meaningful. Focusing
on the character Thomas, the film portrays him like he would be the stereotypical Indian sitting

telling stories and he is even guided by his dreams making him seem like a spiritual person.
Specifically citing the story when Thomas had a dream that told him to go to the river and look for a
sign. This easily displays the stereotypes of Native Americans, but it also shows the stereotype is not
accurate, because he meets Victor's dad there and they

When using marijuana you do get less coordinated and don't perform many things as well as when
not high. As long as people don't drive there is nothing to worry about now I know there isn't a
really positive aspect of this, but were is the negative point. They could also make a law like how we
have now you can not drive under the influence of alcohol, you could have it say you can't drive
under the influence of weed. I know they could make some little tool that could detect weed on you.
It should be up to people if they want to get high. We live somewhere where people have many
rights and much freedom. So why are they trying to not let you get high. What's wrong if someone
wants to smoke in their spare time. That doesn't hurt anyone. It isn't going to be harmful to the world
if people get high and are relaxed. I think there will be many less fights and things like that.
Marijuana is now legal for medical purposes in some states. So that means if you have a disease or
illness that they think can be helped by pot they will give it to you. People with really bad headaches
and other things that seem like calming down and relaxing will help can now legally use marijuana.
If someone is really upset marijuana could help him or her by making them relaxed and happy so
they don't worry about what there upset about anymore. Marijuana could be used for depression and
other things like that.

Essay on Female Stoners: An Ethnographic Study
Female Stoners
An Ethnographic Study
Joelle Baker – December 18, 2013 Introduction I choose to do my ethnographic study on female
stoners. They are a subculture of a subculture and are not often recognized as part of society. I hoped
to shed some light on the daily lives of female smokers, as well as end further stereotypes associated
with this group. During my study I found that female stoners lead relatively normal lives, just it
involves smoking marijuana. Further participatory research of the subculture led to some interesting
findings on their culture such as rituals, economics, language, taboos, and stereotypes.
I interviewed two women who are self proclaimed stoners. It was not especially difficult to obtain
access to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Potheads differ from stoners because they will smoke large amounts of weed at one sitting in order
to get "warp vision". Potheads will generally only smoke a once a day, and it is more of an activity
for them, than a way of life. Lastly social smokers are those will smoke occasionally at parties or
when they are with a certain group of people. There are generally six levels of intoxication that one
can achieve by smoking. The first, being the lowest level, is referred to as "being buzzed". This is
the preferred level for stoners, for it is only a slight high that allows them to carry on with their daily
lives with out issue. Stoners will try to stay buzzed for most of the day by taking a few hits every
couple of hours. The next level is "getting high", this creates a feeling of bliss where the smoker is
still able to complete most tasks. Getting high is followed by "really high" were the smoker will
generally not be productive. This is used for celebrations and special occasions. The next level is
refereed to as "stoned" though holds little connection to the term stoners. It is an intense high, often
used to watch movies or listen to music. Potheads will more often than not try and achieve this level.
This is followed by the highly sought after "warp vision", this is when the smoker becomes so
intoxicated that all sense of time is lost and some smokers claim to hallucinate. The last, and highest
level, of

1. Detailed explanation of how smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors work.
How do smoke detectors work?
*Smoke alarms detect the smoke that comes from a fire; once it detects the smoke the smoke will
trigger an alarm sound to ring off. The Ionization smoke detector detects smoke by sensing smoke
particles. When these smoke particles pass through a chamber, it will absorb the alpha particles
present from the alpha source. The smoke absorbing the alpha particles will lower the level of
ionization inside the alarm, disturbing the flow of electrodes within an air–filled space container.
When the flow is disturbed this will trigger the alarm to ring. There are optical smoke detectors that

The fine yellow powder disrupts the fire's chemical reaction.
Advantages of fire extinguisher #2:
* Puts out Class A, Class B, and Class C fires, meaning it can put out ordinary fires, electrical, and
fires caused by flammable liquids.
* Leave a non–flammable substance on the extinguished material
Disadvantages of fire extinguisher #2:
*Leaves behind a harmful (to humans) residue.
*Cannot put out chemical fires and fires that involve cooking oils and fats.
How effective is fire extinguisher #2? Please explain in 2–3 sentences:
Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers are far more effective than the Air–Pressurized Water
Extinguishers, which can only put out Class A fires. Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers can put out
Class A, Class B, and Class C fires. Meaning they can put out ordinary combustible materials,
flammable liquids, and electrical fires.

To Smoke Or Not To Smoke In Public Essay

  • 1. To Smoke or Not to Smoke in Public Essay To Smoke or Not To Smoke in Public People have strong feelings concerning smoking in public places. Whether you are in favor of or in opposition to it, smoking in public places is a serious concern that need be addressed. I agree that it is unjust for smokers not to be allowed to smoke where they choose, but it is even more unreasonable for non smokers to be subjected to breathing in the exhaled smoke form someone else(passive smoking). Not to mention second–hand smoke is actually worse for someone than smoking itself. Along with the dangers second–hand smoke presents to the adults, think about what it does not only to your children but other children around you. Smokers may argue that non smokers can just as easily walk away as a smoker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second–hand smoke increases a person's chances of getting coronary disease by up to thirty percent. Second–hand smoke also raises the chances of lung and other types of cancer. Each year there are approximately 53,000 deaths from lung cancer and respiratory problems and 25,000 of them are from non smokers. Although that is a long term issue, there are more issues that present themselves instantly. Itchy eyes, runny nose, coughing, hives, and excessive phlegm are just a few. As parents, it is our job to protect our children and that includes the unseen dangers of second–hand smoke. Some of the dangers to children include asthma, lower respiratory illness, middle ear infections, reduced lung growth or sudden infant death syndrome. When children are developing, and are subjected to passive smoking (second–hand smoke), their lung and brain function can be stunted. Middle ear infections can be painful to children and if left untreated can cause permanent damage to their hearing. Even just short exposure of second–hand smoke to children can cause lifelong illnesses for them. Those earlier mentioned things are just the medical reasons for not allowing smoking in public. Children should not be penalized for the bad decisions of adults. For instance children may not be able to play sports or outdoor activities if smoking in public is not completely banned. The Flight Of The Plane On February 7, 2006, UPS flight number 1307, a regular night–time package flight from Atlanta to Philadelphia, had been a normal flight but, just after receiving clearance to land on runway 27R, the flight crewmembers reported that they had a smoke warning light come on. Smoke was coming out of the aircraft as it landed. The flight crewmembers evacuated the airplane after it landed. The flight crewmembers had minor injuries, and most of the cargo and the airplane were destroyed by the fire after landing. The NTSB determined that the probable cause of this accident was an in–flight cargo fire that initiated from an unknown source, which was most likely located within the cargo area. There was just one problem, Victor didn't have the money for a bus pass, but Thomas did. The catch was, if Thomas gave Victor some money to go to Phoenix, Thomas got to come along too. Victor had no other choice but to accept the offer. And the journey begins. Victor and Thomas had never been off the reservation before. • 15. The Pros And Cons Of Marijuana This generation is only children from 1990's to 2000's smoking cannabis. Over the years, there has been a lot of chances shown that children have been smoking marijuana. In the years since 2012, Colorado legalized recreational marijuana and every since then there has been traffic deaths, poison control calls and emergency room visits(USA Today). The United States should be aware of this because there are children who are abusing it. There are children who are blacks and latinos in Colorado and all across the United States. These young children are being imprisoned for the use of marijuana and possession of having it on them. There are high risks in metabolic syndrome as they are growing up. The psychosocial factors are being assessed in personality, environmental, and behavioral variables. A law that keeps marijuana illegal can help fix problems related to addiction, physical, and mental health. This would make the world a little more safer. Marijuana is highly addictive when using this substance at an early age or every day. During these couple years, children has been getting under the table marijuana. That is very much illegal. There are adults who gives marijuana to children. Starting at a young age, would make it easy to become addicted to it. This substance affects everything that is not good for you. Techniques Bradbury uses throughout the story? 1) Personification 2) Foreshadowing 3) Suspense 1) The most often used literary technique to describe the house is personification, where you give inanimate objects human–like characteristics. The stove is given human actions, "In the kitchen the breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior...". This passage shows that Bradbury has given a breakfast stove the ability to hiss a sigh. Stoves are not physically able to sigh. Rain is personified, "And the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing". The rain did not literally tap on the house, it means that the rain was making noise as it fell and came into contact with the house. 2) Bradbury uses is foreshadowing, hinting clues that suggest events that will later happen. The voice–clock sang, worriedly, "...Ticktock, seven o' clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o' clock! As if it were afraid that nobody would". This shows that the house was sensing something

Individuals know how to run their lives better then the federal government. The government should only interfere if people's rights, as defined by our Constitution, are being restricted or violated. I feel legalizing marijuana for private recreational use does not violate anyone's rights. It is not the government's job to enforce morality. Morality is subjective, so what gives the Federal Government the authority to decide what is morally right or morally wrong? If you do not share this viewpoint look at previous politicians. Former President Bill Clinton had several affairs while serving in the Oval Office, and lied under oath. Mark Foley had inappropriate relationships with young boys serving as pages for the Congressman. Many politicians are stereotyped as lying conmen who would do anything for a vote. • 24. Common Rules To Make Marijuana Etiquette Some of your best marijuana memories will involve sharing the experience with others. It is a great way to create new friendships and bonds. As with anything social, there are certain protocols that come with sharing. For the most part it boils down to having good manners and being grateful. If you have been consuming cannabis in social settings for a while marijuana etiquette may come naturally. For the uninitiated, the unspoken rules can get confusing. To help you conquer your first marijuana session like a champ, we've outlined some of the most common rules of marijuana etiquette. 1. They taste bad when burned and they cause your bowl or joint to pop and spark. As Snoop Dogg says, "No stems, no seeds, no stress." 4. Essay about The Harmful Effects of Second Hand Smoke The Harmful Effects of Second Hand Smoke An Australian courtroom, November 2002, has banned a mother of a ten year old boy from smoking in her household (Watts). This is because of the numerous harmful effects that go along with second hand smoke. The court was protecting the child from these dangers; the mother and grandfather both admitted to smoking approximately 40 cigarettes everyday (Watts). The ruling was done by the anti– smoking lobby, and was a first for this type of case. • 30. Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Marijuana Mary–Jane, cannabis, reefer, hash, pot, grass, tree, ganja, dope, chronic, no matter what you call it, they're all just disguises for the wacky tobaccy. There's been a recent rise in our country to legalize, and even promote marijuana use. Whether it be for so–called "medical purposes", or whether it be because it's our civil liberty, regardless, the citizens of our country are adamant about legalizing cannabis. At first glance, most people might agree. "What harm could some stoners possibly do?", "They're going to use it anyway; we might as well tax it.", "If alcohol and cigarettes are legal, why shouldn't pot be?" are common statements one may hear from those in favor of legalization. Well, I'm not so easy to convince, and you shouldn't be either. The facts hidden behind the smoke and mirrors tell a different story, one that doesn't disguise the ugly truth. Marijuana consumption can have harmful effects on users' behavior, health, and psyche; it is for those reasons that as a nation we must admit marijuana is not harmless. Everyone knows what they say about "stoners", they're lazy, they're unmotivated, they fail classes, they're too high to care about anything. The pro–legalization side (let's call them "pro–leg" or "pro– leggers" from this point forward) is quick to call these claims dubious and that they lack scientific backing. However, those sayings about stoners didn't come from nowhere. Research has shown that cannabis use has "negative effects on attention, memory, and learning [that] can last for days or weeks... depending on the person's history with the drug" (Abuse). Huh, maybe that explains where the so called "anti–weed propaganda" came from? There is also research to suggest that "someone who smokes marijuana daily may be functioning at a reduced intellectual level most or all of the time" which goes hand–in–hand with the evidence that "students who smoke marijuana have poorer educational outcomes than their nonsmoking peers" (Abuse). Now is when pro–leggers come in and claim, "I have a perfect memory, so that statistic is wrong" or "I used marijuana during school, and I turned out fine." However, both of those claims are fallacious for the same reason; they're hasty generalizations. Let's take a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Importance Of Emotions In Advertising Among the various ways in which people's emotion can be triggered, one common method is to use an ad, a picture to sell an idea. On 11th July 2016, David Frenay presented some ads online titled "The Importance of Emotions in Advertising", for which each ad is designed to create a particular emotion. One ad that pulls my attention was designed to instigate Fear. The topic sentence/claim above this ad reads "Fear is frequently deployed to deter people from harmful behaviors, such as smoking or drug abuse." The picture of this ad shows the feed of a lying body presumes death, covered with white cloth and on one of its toes is hung a postcard that reads "Smoking Kills." Selling the idea that people should not smoke (Frenay). Generally, to my judgment, the author of this advertisement didn't do a fine job because the ad presents a two–fold argument. The ad is effective due to its ethos point of view, and the authors' way of analyzing facts about smoking, but the picture represented in the ad isn't very effective due to its pathos and logos point of view. Certainly, the ads appeal to pathos is ineffective due to the fact that the ad has only one postcard that read "Smoking Kills" (Frenay). To my judgment, that is not enough information. The postcard should have said, "All Forms of Smoking Kills". Reason being that, smokers have a flippant attitude of trying to defend themselves, why they smoke something and not the others. They are not normally judged by the hardships they had to face. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian and Smoke Signals show that these struggles are real. In his book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, and his movie, Smoke Signals, Sherman Alexie wrote about the challenges of being a Native American. Diary and Smoke Signals are similar because they both showed many family problems throughout the story lines. Also, they are similar in that the families faced difficulty with alcohol addiction. They differ because in Diary, the main character, Junior, adapts to his new school that has all white students while in Smoke Signals, Victor tries not to interact with anyone outside his race. First, Diary and Smoke Signals' characters have both had some difficult times dealing with family problems from abuse to death. In Smoke Signals, Victor's dad, Arnold, physically abused Victor when he was a child. Immediately after Arnold hit Victor, Arnold said, "I didn't mean to" (Smoke Signals). The abuse was a large factor into why Arnold left Victor when he was a child. However in Diary, there is case of abuse involving Rowdy, Junior's friend. Rowdy's father would constantly hit him. Rowdy would walk around with bruises and scars showing and he acted like he was proud of them. • 44. The Destruction Of Society In Lord Of The Flies By William... Humans kill, whether it be animals, insects or people. The justice system is used to try and fix what others have done and in this way they are punished. They are punished in a functioning society with rules and laws, but when all that is stripped away, we are left with mass destruction and humans that kill. The novel Lord of the Flies, published in 1954 and written by Nobel Prize winning author, William Golding, portrays the violence and eradication of a functioning society through young boys stranded on an island. Golding uses the symbol fire and forgetfulness of the need for it to develop the theme of the loss of society and creation of uncivilized destruction. Ralph as chief in the beginning of Lord of the Flies uses fire to fuel his main goal as a leader, which is to get back home. He treats the fire as a necessity and one of the most important assets on the island. Ralph uses the smoke from the fire as a safety net that keeps him comfortable and with the hope of getting home. He says, "'And we'll be responsible for keeping a lookout too. If we see a ship out there...we'll put green branches on. Then there'll be more smoke" (Golding 43). Ralph emphasizes the need for the smoke as he sees this as one of the only ways that they will ever be rescued. Ralph is still full of hope for life and escaping. This fire will keep them safe and this fire will rescue him and all of the others. As chief, he wants others to have the same hope about being saved that he does which is ... (00:04:55– 00:04:56) says Randy Peone, the voice of the KREZ radio, setting the mood for the whole film, Smoke Signals. Smoke Signals is about Native Americans, specifically Thomas Builds–The–Fire, played by Evan Adams, and Victor Joseph, played by Adam Beach, that live on the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation. The story follows these two proud–to–be–Indian boys all the way through their adulthood. The audience gets to see their relationship develop from distant "friends" to a brother–like bond. This film is a Native American masterpiece; however, I believe that the true magic lies in the work of Evan Adams. As soon as Thomas enters on screen, the audience falls in–love. He wears two side braids, nice suits, and a huge smile plastered across his face. At the beginning of the film, he is a happy and curious kid that is everything but refreshing to his "friend" Victor. I groggily opened my eyes to a woman in a lab coat standing in the doorway, speaking with someone who's face I could not see. I tried to sit up, but all I felt was a distant pain. I laid back down. My chest felt like it was closing in, and a weight was sitting on my throat. My knee was covered in gauze and an assortment of other bandages. A taped cotton ball covered up a bruise on my left wrist, with a white bracelet on the other. I took in my surroundings: a pale blue curtain, half opened around the bed, a chair, and a small window, indicating it was morning from the sun peaking through into the room. I couldn't remember what had happened that brought me here, but everything before that was crystal clear. ✦✦✦ It was just like any other start–of–summer vacation for our family. It had become a tradition for my family and I to go to Jasper for the Canada Day weekend. "C'mon Jessica let's go! The van is already packed!" I called out. All of a sudden, my younger sister appeared with an armful of stuff, rushing down the stairs. My older siblings, Levi and Jen, had to stay home as they had to work. It felt unusual leaving them behind, as this was the first time we had gone camping without the whole family. Although the drive to Jasper is about four hours, time flew by as we all sang, slept, and snacked our way there. The busy city faded as the mountains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Movie Smoke Signals By Sherman Alexie And Chris Eyre The Truth According to Who Writer Sherman Alexie and director Chris Eyre explore the relationship between truth and fiction in storytelling and the complexities of the Indian oral tradition in the movie Smoke Signals. The movie Smoke Signals follows two young Indian men, Victor and Thomas, on a journey to Phoenix, AR. to pick up the ashes of Victor's father. Along the way many stories are told and truth is often hard to detect. Sherman Alexie and Chris Eyre reveal subtleties important to the understanding of the oral tradition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In another layer of story telling the details do not matter but the truthful representation of an idea is what is critical. In a scene where Victor and Irene are talking about Victors trip Irene is making fry bread. Irene says of her method of making fry bread "I don't just make it by myself you know, I got the recipe from your grandmother and she got it from her grandmother and I listen to people when they eat my bread."(Smoke Signals) Like stories, recipes are handed down from generation to generation and blended and changed as they are retold or remade. In this way we can see how stories and recipes are analogous, both represent the oral tradition. While preserving the past they become something new, not exactly the same but fundamentally the same expression of an idea. The exact recipe for fry bread and the exact details of a story are not what is important just that they faithfully express the idea. Irene acknowledges the foundation of her successful recipe but blended in new ideas and came to make the best fry bread. Sherman Alexie adds a layer of complexity to the film by letting symbolism tell a separate story within some scenes. Cultural sovereignty and oppression are themes that run through out Smoke Signals. Many strong symbols elude to this in the scene when Vincent and Thomas are in the office of the police chief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. Arrow Of God And Smoke Signals Arrow of God and Smoke Signals have similar patterns of fiction, archetypes and philosophies. If you notice Campells typical hero sequence of actions can be detected in both Arrow of God and Smoke Signals. "There is a certain typical hero sequence of actions which can be detected in stories from all over the world from many periods of history. Essentially, it might even be said there is but one archetypal mythic hero whose life has been replicated in many lands by many people." (Archetypes pg 6) This sequence is made apparent in Arrow of God. The birth of Ezeulu is unusual because he is born into priesthood. This priesthood later requires him to travel to Okperi. While in Okperi, Ezeulu confronts his ego simultaneously while conflicting with the imposing British Government. Ezeulu then returns to Umuaro having been reborn psychologically. Campells typical hero sequence holds truth in Smoke Signals as well. Victor's unusual birth in Smoke Signals is symbolic; he is saved from a tragic house fire as a young baby. This house fire is the same event that drives his father away from the Coeur d 'Alene Indian Reservation. Inevitably this later requires Victor to leave home and confront his ego while retrieving his father's remains. In both Arrow of God and Smoke Signals the events after the heroes' birth are considerably unusual. This unusual birth is later the motive for the hero to leave home which ultimately results in the heroes confronting their egos. The heroes then return ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Howard Becker Social Control Theory According to Howard Becker, there are three main steps to becoming a marijuana smoker. First, the individual must learn to properly smoke marijuana – to yield the real effects. Second, the effects must be recognized and the individual must be able to connect the effects to the drug use. Finally, and arguably most important for Becker's theory, the individual must learn to enjoy the side effects of marijuana, and its use for pleasure. If these three steps are not met, then the individual will no longer smoke marijuana. Becker attempts to uncover how the changes of attitudes and experiences affect the individual's possibility of smoking marijuana. Becker's point of view is more micro–level, looking at the individual's history and how they think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Becker does highlight some important points in that the individual should understand the effects of the drug and most importantly, should like the side effects of marijuana. However, Becker downplays and in some cases completely ignores the impact that the individual's environment has on whether or not they will smoke marijuana. Becker simplifies other people in his theory to someone who is an experienced marijuana smoker, or in most cases a helper to new smokers. While Social Control Theory would agree with the experienced smokers being of importance to new and uneducated smokers, the theory would also put more emphasis on why the experienced smokers are important. Social Control Theory considers also that the role of peer pressure, and how some individuals will only smoke marijuana while at a social gathering, or only smokes with a certain group of people. Becker certainly neglects the "opportunity smokers," who are the smokers who only smoke at parties. This group could certainly follow the three steps that Becker has outlined, but Becker's theory fails to explain why those specific people do not smoke alone. Social Control Theory would also relate to the person's attachment, commitment, involvement, or belief to marijuana ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their fame makes them role models for society and I believe that the fact that they smoke creates validation for the people who look up to them. As far as medical marijuana is concerned, in a lot of cases, it is still very hard for the people who need it to get it. The state and federal laws in many cases contradict each other and this creates issues for people who require it. Also, many doctors tend to be hesitant to prescribe it because they either don't believe in its healing powers or they don't truly know the effects it can have on the mind and body. In our society, many people have different views on marijuana, and now that it is legalized by proposition 64 it will be more accessible to more people. First, in our community marijuana is widely accepted. Although I do not smoke marijuana due to my personal reasoning, such as participating in sport that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which explains how smoking marijuana is accepted differently among different people. For example now that government has allowed residents of California to legally smoke in private properties, education systems and parents have became more acceptable to the use of marijuana. Although it is acceptable, I have encountered many of parents and adults that do not recommend the use of it to the youths because they believe that marijuana will have side effects and downside to their daily lifestyle such as staying engaged in school, sports, and relationships with significant others. While adults are slightly against the use of it youths are definitely agrees to the use of marijuana because they are many of them are going through adolescence and the experience of it is part of their growth. On the other hand functional theory may be applied to the use of marijuana since society as whole defines some deviant behavior from smoking marijuana as unacceptable actions. For example, when marijuana is viewed as the reason why someone is being inactive and inefficient with their lives they are harshly judged as the "lazy pot head who smokes weed everyday". This emphasizes that society judges those small group of people who are not attempting to live the American Dream and is does not have the drive to take advantage of great opportunities that is in front of them, which creates moral boundaries for many people in the society. Comparing those two theories, symbolic interactionism has the strength to create a society that is open to other group's ideas on the view of marijuana whereas functional theory limits and creates a rule with society as whole which limits the acceptable use of marijuana. On the other hand, the upside of the functional theory is that it leads to the growth of the society as a whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Lord Of The Flies Piggy Analysis "Civilization begins with order, grows with liberty, and dies with chaos." said Will Durant, a famous author who lived during the 18–1900's. This is relevant to today's society, as well as the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In this novel there is a character who goes by the name of "Piggy". The other children frequently abuse and mistreat piggy while they are stranded on the island. Golding uses piggy and his glasses to show that when without parental guidance, intelligence and rationality are essential in order to keep law and order. From the first page of the novel we meet Piggy. He is a fat child that wears glasses and is considered an outcast to all the other children. The first thing Piggy questions is "Where's the man with the megaphone?" This reveals that piggy realizes the need for authority. In life, glasses were made to give people the ability to see, and to "see" is also a metaphor for knowledge. In the novel Piggys glasses represent knowledge and insight on what's really happening. Piggy's glasses arent only important to Piggy, as they let him see, his glasses are also important to everyone else on the island because they create fire. In chapter 2 the boys were trying to light a signal fire to be rescued, "His specs– use them as burning glasses." They then used Piggy's glasses as a tool to light the fire. The fire is important to the boys on the island because without fire there is no rescue. In chapter 5 Ralph calls a meeting to tell the children what needs to be done, "'The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we don't keep a fire going?'"(Golding 80) he says. This shows the importance of the fire because it symbolizes the boys hope to get rescued. In the previous chapter Piggy noticed that the smoke had gone out on the mountain. They watched a ship pass by the island, but there was no smoke signal. "'I can't see no smoke.' said Piggy incredulously. 'I can't see no smoke, Ralph– where is it?'"(Golding 66). The boys ran to the top of the mountain to start the fire again. They got into an argument about letting the fire go out and Jack smacked Piggy across the head. His glasses fell off, hit the rocks below him, and broke ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Persuasive Essay On Marijuana Success in education must be measured through hard work, perseverance, and dedication– not through the deceiving effects of marijuana. From personal experience, I have had many peers throughout high school and post–secondary who have claimed to use marijuana to help them succeed in school. Currently, in the country of Canada, marijuana is an illegal herbal drug used by many students as a personal key to succeed. Marijuana, also known as "weed", is relatively inexpensive and easy to come by. Therefore, people use marijuana for various reasons: some use the drug as a way to release stress, while others use it as a calming agent. Consequently, many of these students are deceived by the fact that marijuana is potentially harmless. What many do not know– marijuana can actually be harmful, and that it could pose a potential threat to the student's success in education. Students should consider avoiding marijuana while pursuing their education as they could potentially be limiting their success in school. Many users do not take the time to understand the full effect of the stimulant and they will smoke ridiculous amounts of marijuana to reach that certain high that will lead them to their idea of "success". These smokers are slowly deconstructing their futures; the feeling of "keeping chill" is not worth affecting their mind, memory, attention span, thinking process, and physical body. Marijuana places many effects on the human body. Conforming to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, when marijuana is smoked, THC and other chemicals in the plant pass from the lungs into the bloodstream, which rapidly carries them throughout the body and to the brain (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2017). Therefore, many people experience these effects immediately, including symptoms of relaxation, calmness, and hunger. Considering these effects, you can understand why many students smoke this drug before starting their day. Smoking marijuana may allow them to pay attention, keep them calm and assertive during social interaction, and overall clarify the ideas that are continually being processed while learning something new in class. However, when breaking this concept down, there are many more negative short–term effects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stereotypes Of Native Americans In The Film Smoke Signals In the movie Smoke Signals the writer Sherman Alexie frequently shows stereotypes of the Native American people and shows the audience why the stereotypes are not true or meaningful. Focusing on the character Thomas, the film portrays him like he would be the stereotypical Indian sitting around the campfire telling stories. I think the film did a good job trying to show that, as he is often telling stories and he is even guided by his dreams making him seem like a spiritual person. Specifically citing the story when Thomas had a dream that told him to go to the river and look for a sign. This easily displays the stereotypes of Native Americans, but it also shows the stereotype is not accurate, because he meets Victor's dad there and they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are a subculture of a subculture and are not often recognized as part of society. I hoped to shed some light on the daily lives of female smokers, as well as end further stereotypes associated with this group. During my study I found that female stoners lead relatively normal lives, just it involves smoking marijuana. Further participatory research of the subculture led to some interesting findings on their culture such as rituals, economics, language, taboos, and stereotypes. I interviewed two women who are self proclaimed stoners. It was not especially difficult to obtain access to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Potheads differ from stoners because they will smoke large amounts of weed at one sitting in order to get "warp vision". Potheads will generally only smoke a once a day, and it is more of an activity for them, than a way of life. Lastly social smokers are those will smoke occasionally at parties or when they are with a certain group of people. There are generally six levels of intoxication that one can achieve by smoking. The first, being the lowest level, is referred to as "being buzzed". This is the preferred level for stoners, for it is only a slight high that allows them to carry on with their daily lives with out issue. Stoners will try to stay buzzed for most of the day by taking a few hits every couple of hours. The next level is "getting high", this creates a feeling of bliss where the smoker is still able to complete most tasks. Getting high is followed by "really high" were the smoker will generally not be productive. This is used for celebrations and special occasions. The next level is refereed to as "stoned" though holds little connection to the term stoners. It is an intense high, often used to watch movies or listen to music. Potheads will more often than not try and achieve this level. This is followed by the highly sought after "warp vision", this is when the smoker becomes so intoxicated that all sense of time is lost and some smokers claim to hallucinate. How do smoke detectors work? *Smoke alarms detect the smoke that comes from a fire; once it detects the smoke the smoke will trigger an alarm sound to ring off. The Ionization smoke detector detects smoke by sensing smoke particles. When these smoke particles pass through a chamber, it will absorb the alpha particles present from the alpha source. The smoke absorbing the alpha particles will lower the level of ionization inside the alarm, disturbing the flow of electrodes within an air–filled space container. When the flow is disturbed this will trigger the alarm to ring. There are optical smoke detectors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
