The Problem With 24 Hour News
Dustin Wisby English II Ms. Stewart 9–21–2014 The Problem with 24 Hour News & biasness of
each During any breaking news segment on any 24 hour news coverage channel there seems to
always be problems and mistakes that are made by reporters for not having the correct information
on the story. Also when there is no significant stories to report on there seems to be a cycle of
information that each news channel tries to throw at you. Examples of this would be presidential
stories, repeating stories over and over, and so on. Just imagine if one had to have something to say
constantly about anything and everything they could find. Would that not get annoying listening to
one person speak all day every day about anything they could find. So why do we have these
problems and is it even good for the people of the United States to have twenty–four hour news
channels? At the beginning of television news an arrangement existed between television journalists
and the public. It was look at as that in modern times promotion journalism was normal. The United
States was the modern, broadminded leader of the free world. When Walter Cronkite reported on the
daily count of deaths of American soldiers in Vietnam, in lead to the antiwar disapprovals of the
1960s. One man changed how the United States look at the war with his power and influence to
change people opinions. (Mann) With rise of CNN, the first 24 Hour News, in the early 1980s

Movie Review : Movies Three Kings With The Siege Of...
1. The movies Three Kings with The Siege of Jadotville, both war like movies, show two different
types of political movies. Three Kings which is an overwhelmingly liberal film based on the first
Gulf War under president George H. W. Bush and then there is The Siege of Jadotville which is
based on the Katanga conflict in Congo–Léopoldville was a centrist film. There are certain criteria
that a movie must fall into that enables them to be categorized as a conservative, liberal,
revolutionary right, radical right, revolutionary left, and radical right and these films fell into their
respective categories. So why were these films categorized like that and what did these films do that
place them in these categories along with what being in this category means in terms of the criteria
that are fulfilled. A liberal film is one who views the military establishment as a potential threat to
democracy and to freedom at home, they view the government as an agent for change, that govt. can
be used as a vehicle and can fix a wrong that is currently existing in society, they believe that
believe capitalism is wasteful, exploitative and unfair, liberals view the class system as
discriminatory, repressive and unjust, when it comes to crime liberal are most often depicted as the
victims being dominated by corrupt bosses, poor schools, bad police, bad parents and brutal prisons,
criminals are victims and are dominated by these corrupt figures, they view law enforcement as
corrupt and bigoted,

The Political Spectrum
Government The political spectrum is a system to categorize the Political Parties and Political
Ideologies. The oldest of the spectra used today includes a right wing and a left wing. This
originated from the seating arrangements of the French Parliament after the Revolution (1789–99).
According to the left–right political spectrum, Pure Communism and Socialism being on the left,
and Anarchy being on the far left end of the spectrum. On the opposite of side of the axis,
Capitalism and Fascism on the far right of the spectrum. Historical Origin The terminology "left"
and "right" specifically refer to the original seating arrangements of the different legislative bodies
in the French Parliament. From the speaker's point of view, the Aristocracy ... Show more content on

A political ideology by definition is a certain set of ethical ideals, principles, doctrines, myths or
symbols of a social movement, institution, class, and/or large group that explains how society
should work, and offers some political and cultural blueprint for a certain social order. On account
of the details given above, Communism is a Left–wing political ideology. Communism's ultimate
goal to reach is to make a communist society, which is a socioeconomic order structured upon the
common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the
state. A modern day example would be Cuba. They are one of the last lasting nations that follow the
true communist ideology. Conversely, China on the other hand is deemed and labeled as communist;
however China has altered and made their own communism. On the other side of the spectrum you
have another political ideology, Nazism. It is the ideology and practice that the Nazi Party of
Germany on the far right of the spectrum used and furthermore based their Political action on. The
Nazis aimed to make a German Pure country, and to rid of all "inferior" races. This is an extreme of
Fascism. On the contrary of both extreme political ideologies, in the center of the political spectrum
we have Centrism Ideology. Centrism is a political outlook or specific function that involves
acceptance or aid of a balance of a degree of social equality and a measure of social

Argumentative Essay On Gun Violence
The modern world is full of different opinions, values, and beliefs. The people behind these beliefs
often find it hard to connect with the ideas of others. America is so divided on some many topics
that it's hard not to hear about these topics on a daily basis. One such topic is gun control and
restriction of firearms for civilians. There are those who want to see the ownership of guns phased
out entirely, and those who would rather die defending their firearms than concede to a tyrannical
government. While most people don't share those beliefs, that's the kind of opinions you'll see
portrayed on media. The liberal left and the conservative right like to slander the other sides merit
by showing the most radical people from each side. Philosophers have debated this mindset of us
and them, as we see with the left and right. In some cases, they can live together in harmony, in
others they can't. Kwame Anthony Appiah is a philosopher that believes both can live in harmony by
using universal values. What I am proposing isn't a universal value, per say, but rather an
opportunity for compromise. This proposal is focused around gun violence, laws, and regulations.
On the topic of gun violence, the truth is never really evident on either side of the spectrum. The left
has a notorious history of belittling the free speech of anyone who disagrees with their views on gun
control, and labels Alt–right Neo–Nazis. The right also likes to disregard any opinions brought forth
by the left, often labeling them social justice warriors and anti–fa. What all this bias boils down to is
media's portrayal of topics. The media rarely ever takes an unbiased stance on most controversial
subjects, but rather use them to fuel heated debates. What I propose is a government funded form of
media, where an unbiased opinion can be presented to the public, and citizens can then form
educated opinions on these topics, rather than being spoon fed the opinions of the left or the right.
This form of media should be unbiased and welcome to all opinions, while still respecting the
beliefs of others. This media platform should be available to the public through all platforms of
standard media, i.e.: online, television, radio, and print. With the

Terrorism And Its Effects On The World
Terrorism consists of different range of illegal violent activities which is aimed at intimidating and
creating fear in people. I would define terrorism as the use of unlawful violence or threat of
unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in
the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological." Within this definition,
there are three key elements–violence, fear, and intimidation–and each element produce terror in its
victims. This paper is going to define and discuss the issue of terrorism and explain the why is it so
difficult to get a specific definition for term "terrorism", while making references to some terrorist
events and organization such as the holocaust, the black September organization, the boko–haram of
west Africa and the al–Qaeda group.
Major historic terrorism/ Mass genocide event has been as a result of differences in political beliefs.
In most cases this involves, the left and right winged ideologies and a disagreement in the direction
of change and the speed at which the change is expected. To the left of the political spectrum we
have the Liberals and to the right the Conservatives. The Liberals consist of individuals who believe
there is room for progressive change, the Conservatives on the other hand would rather maintain the
status quo and if at all a change is required, it has to be a retrogressive change. With the knowledge
of the Left and Right winged, we get introduce

Discuss the successes and failures of the Weimar republic...
The Weimar republic from 1919 to 1929 had many successes and failures, starting in chaos and
ending in relative stability. However, due to individual perspective these successes and failures were
often viewed as both successes and failures– not either. Class, political leanings and other moralistic
beliefs, primarily influenced the individual's perspectives. Overall, due to the relative stability, (the
aim of any government) primarily achieved by Streseman's influence, the successes outweighed the
failures by 1929.
November 1918 saw the result of WW1 though Germany's eyes. A crumbled economy, revolution
and counter–revolution, the flailing of a government, and an angered mass population– searching for
scapegoat in which to blame their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An economic failure in the result to the treaty was hyperinflation. It occurred due to the given
amount of reparation payments, which were up in the multiple millions. The war had left the
German economy disastrous already, and inflation was rising quickly. The banks started to print
more bank notes to solve the problem. The harsh effect, however, was that the money became
worthless, as less goods were there to be sold, and so heavy inflation followed. Germany could only
pay its first reparation with its industrial products (a prime source for employment, and exports, thus
the stability of the economy.) so when Germany declared they couldn't pay the second instalment,
the French invaded the Ruhr, the main source of industrial activity for Germany. The government's
response was to encourage strikes; this only led two to things; less German produce, with workers
still needing to be paid. In attempt to correct this, government printed even more bank notes. Heavy
inflation soared to hyperinflation. The middle class saw their savings being brought to no value,
right through to the workers not being able to buy a loaf of bread. This shows a chain of failures
from the republic– it contributed to the commencement of hyperinflation, and therefore the invasion
of the Ruhr– loss of industrial economy. Generally,

The Right Wing Ideologues Are An Extremely Diverse Group
The right wing ideologues are an extremely diverse group. Within the U.S alone there are
libertarians (those who 's believe the government is too large both economically and socially.),
traditionalist, militarists (those who believe that the military is of the ultimate importance to society
and think it should be used more), moderates and many other groups. In international terms the
groups that are farthest to the right are known as reactionaries. Reactionaries are usually set apart
from traditionalists in that unlike traditionalist who seek to preserve current traditions, reactionaries
actively seek to restore past traditions. For example, someone who seeks to protect a countries
monarchy would be a traditionalist, while someone who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most libertarians support a reduction of traditional and religious power while at the same time
usually supporting things that will result in a smaller and less active government such as legalization
of drugs, an end to most wars, and a reduction in overall governmental influence and power.
Libertarians are usually unconcerned about the power of corporations and tend to support measures
that result in the government having less control over corporations and the economy. A few
libertarians also favor general reductions to entitlement and benefit programs. Moderates are those
who while still clearly on the right wing of politics, tend to be closer to the center in there opinions
and more willing to compromise. In general moderates tend to hold the same beliefs but to a lesser
degree. Most forms of militarism are usually found on the right wing of politics. The number of pure
militarists is usually small as most people tend to support other issues in conjunction with
militarism, In general any of the above ideologies can have a militarism added onto it. As with right
wing ideologies, left wing ideologies are very diverse. In the United States however, most left wing
ideologies get little to no representation. Those who are farthest to the left, tend to be communists
and anarchists. While both groups have the abolition of government as

Ontario Child And Family Services Act
The Ontario Child and Family Services Act (CFSA) highlights a number of amendments that
promote the protection and well–being of children in care. Through examining Amina's story, we
have identified which of her rights were violated, and explained why each situation was an
infringement of the law, by quoting the relevant sections from the CFSA, Part V, Children's Rights
in Care. In addition, we have also explained what we, as Child and Youth Workers (CYWs) would
do differently to ensure that Amina's rights are respected.
According to the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA, 1990, c. C.11, s. 105 (2)), Amina's Right to
Care was violated and she was declined of the following amendments: to receive meals that are
well–balanced, of good quality and appropriate for the child; to receive medical care whenever
required and; to receive an appropriate education. In her stay at the Oak House, Amina didn't receive
meals that were 'appropriate' for her, which was a direct violation of her Right. As an identified
Muslim, this situation was a violation because despite complaining to staff that she couldn't eat the
pizza with bacon, staff did not take the necessary steps to provide a well–balanced alternative meal
in order to ensure she wouldn't go hungry. Also, as part of her punishment for disobeying house
rules, the staff at Oak House cancelled her doctor's appointment and forbade her from attending
school. The CFSA highlights the importance of receiving medical care when required and

What are the Political Axes
Freedom and Authority 1. In your own words, what do the two axes of Political Compass represent?
There are many approaches to the political spectrum, one of which involves two–dimensional model
of Political Compass, which explores the view of a person divided by two aspects social
(Authoritarian and Libertarian) and economic (Left and Right view). The model is represented by
two axes which divided the politics into four main areas. The relationship is strong between freedom
and authority as in some cases and instances authority defines freedom in either absolute or
minimum. The Political Compass took into consideration economic view which is sometimes the
easiest way to define somebody's dependence on the system and therefore the individual's freedom
to act. The Political Compass are decided by the two axes of: a. The Left–Right axis Taking on the
economic approach Right and Left one can distinguish major debates and differences that
distinguish people categorizing them along the line of those two extremes which divides power to
individual or all power to the State. It is reasonable to say that the Left is defined in desire for an
economy to be run and manipulated by solely the state. It is believed that it is the State's
responsibility to ensure welfare for people through planning and implementing, a trade–unionist and
communist would be considered Left ideology where all are equal. Left is understood to also believe
in social equality and support for those in

Decrypting Politics
Conservatism describes the disposition of people who prefer heavy state intervention in private life
and little or no state invention in the economy. Laura Stoker, a professor at the University of
California, Berkeley, created a graph (Figure 1) that separates people's political standing based on
their views of state intervention in private life and the economy (The Charles and Louise Travers
Department of Political Science University of California, Berkeley). This description allows
individuals to compare and contrast the different political views of people. However, there is more
to the conservative label than just the group of people who prefer state intervention in the private
life but not in the economy. Conservatism is typically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is not a specific enterprise faction within the conservative movement, but this exemplifies
how there is not perfect harmony. More accurately, Lichtman is revealing how the conservative
movement, through the joining of the knowledge, influence, and resources from the businesses that
invest themselves in the movement, works with the religious side's passion to form a workable base.
The first faction of the conservative movement we will analyze is the traditionalist faction. Dunn
views the traditionalists as the original leaders of the modern conservative movement. He states they
provided intellectual leadership spanning many years. This faction was horrified about the projects
to expand government, such as the New Deal and the Great Society. Looking to foreign affairs, they
were against the threat of communism (Dunn, vii). James Ceaser includes that presently
traditionalists have become "defenders of the culture" (Dunn, 23). Ceaser believes they prefer
change that comes naturally rather than change that is created and forced. In this way they aim to
"conserve" by keeping more of a status quo or what gradually evolves in politics from situations.
This seems to reveal the current situation in which a dramatic change in health care was forced upon
the American people, for disapproval continues to be greater than approval (Rasmussen Reports,
LLC). This is an example of an unnatural event that

Freedom And Money By G. A. Cohen
America is known both conventionally and historically as 'the land of the free'... but is that really the
case? In his article titled Freedom and Money, G. A. Cohen addresses this question through the
relationship between freedom and money, or more specifically the lack thereof: poverty. As Cohen
shows, experts all along the political spectrum agree that the poor are entitled to far less
opportunities than their wealthier counterparts. The controversy with the subject thus lies, instead, in
the ambiguity of the term "freedom" and what it implies, as well as to what exactly it's beneficiaries
are permitted. The political left believes that because the impoverished are financially unable to
exercise many of their freedoms, their economic status ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this paper is to further explicate and support Cohen's viewpoint, establish a
contemporary counter–argument to such, and finally provide a possible response in support of his
argument.
In his first section, Cohen states that "I am happy to assume, here, with the right, and with Berlin
and Rawls, that freedom is identical with lack of interference" (10). In other words, the
overwhelming opinion within Cohen's article is that freedom, at the very base level, is defined by an
absence of interference by anybody on one's social liberties. Per the right's argument, because
poverty is characterized by lack of means and not lack of freedom, poverty does not necessarily
entail a lack of freedom. However, Cohen ultimately contends that "lack of money includes lack of
freedom, even if we accept the identification of freedom with lack of interference" (11). He uses a
variety of arguments to assess this claim, but the biggest one is an analogy to a theoretical society. In
this society, there is no money, but rather, somebody's freedoms

SPANISH CIVIL WAR – WEAKNESS & COLLAPSE Introduction: The second republic was
formed after the dictatorship under Primo de Rivera (1923) and the abdication of the King. The
republican leftist government was established in 1931. It inherited the poor economy courtesy of the
Great Depression, so naturally unemployment rates were high and wages were low. Ideological
differences between various political groups were in existence due to the radicalized time, however
not to the extent as in most other European nations at the time as Spain was not as heavily involved

majority of 'ordinary people' dissatisfied as it had little to no effect on the widespread poverty of
rural Spain SOOOO it was very much unsuccessful in that it really pleased no one and angered just
about everyone, thereby significantly reducing the Gov't support base Carlos Rama: – "Civil war

Why Are Professors Liberal, And Why Do Conservatives Care?
Why are professors liberal, and why do conservatives care? This question has been dancing in the
background of American academia for decades, and yet almost no one has acknowledged its
significance. People from all positions on the political spectrum seem to have accepted this reality to
some extent, but what does it mean for education today? Neil Gross conducted a series of research
experiments over the course of seven years, discovering the bases for this claim and the implications
it holds for educators and students. His publication of Why Are Professors Liberal and Why Do
Conservatives Care? offers an in–depth examination and analysis of professional politics on
college–campuses, giving its readers a new answer to an old question. ... Show more content on

Gross and a colleague of his, Solon Simmons, enacted a study to update previously conducted
research to modern standards (pp. 34–41). They examined preferences, values, and historical
tendencies. The results led to Gross's creation of the "political identity" approach for academics that
he relies on throughout the remainder of his book (p.39). He found the majority of professors, in
reality, did identify with the left side of the political spectrum. However, this taxonomy can be
further broken down. Marxists, progressives, and centrist–democrats all account for the larger label
of "democrat," with most of them belonging to the progressive category. This liberalism, by
American standards, is more lenient toward change and social equality. Why does this liberal
concentration exist and what does it mean for students? These questions are inspected from outside
perspectives in the second chapter. Researchers proposed four main hypotheses to clarify these
circumstances. Pierre Bourdieu studied Parisian school faculties, concluding that their political
tendencies were dependent upon their position class structure (p.69). While this had some weight in
Europe, American politics were not so easily explained. Next, Steven Brint examined that perhaps
the large amount of time spent in upper–level education institutions by professors leads to their
liberalism (p.79). There was much empirical support for this claim until it was understood that
people do not become

Compare And Contrast The American Political Spectrum
The American Political Spectrum is a system used to classify the different political and social
viewpoints of the American People. The system is places one on a horizontal spectrum depending on
their beliefs; if one is a liberal they go on the left area of the line and if one is a conservative they go
on the right area of the line– the greater they are of those two categories the farther down they go on
the line. The terms "liberal" and "conservative" are derived from the ideologies of Liberalism and
Conservatism, respectively, which differ greatly. The root of all the differences between liberalism
and conservatism can be traced to their beliefs in human nature. Human nature is the behavior of
humans in their rawest state, with no interference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My liberal side says to give open up the US to refugees. They're human and deserve to live a life
where they do not have to worry about having their family caught in a crossfire between drug lords
or sides of a revolution, and keeping millions innocent people out a nation seems wrong. However,
the actual logistics and handling of the refugees would be very elaborate. The whole process would
be incredibly difficult to carry out, and there would always be the "threat" of one of the refugees
being a terrorist. Due to the current tension between the United States and the terrorist groups of the
Middle East, I wouldn't keep allow refugees from the region. As much as it hurts me to keep an
entire group of innocent victims in such a situation, the American Public would be opposed to it and
I do not have the time, knowledge, or money to create a system for allowing refugees from the

The Political Spectrum Of The United States
Outside of the political spectrum, there is another group of organizations that have perhaps and even
stronger grasp on the media than media regulators themselves. The incredibly complex and well
organized drug cartels that base themselves mostly in northern Mexico and along the coastline of the
Gulf of Mexico are in many ways the most influential organizations in the nation's media. As
mentioned earlier, Mexican citizens were granted freedom of the press in the 1857 Federal
Constitution giving them expressional rights that closely resembled the United States' on paper.
However, as the cartels ran rampant throughout the country some indirect restrictions were put on
these rights. The cartels employ ruthless violence and torture in order to punish those who oppose
them, including journalists and reporters who attempt to portray them in a negative light. Over the
past decade "there have been '172 attacks on press freedom, including nine journalists and two
media workers killed'" (Hernandez–Garcia 2012). As a result, anyone reporting on the drug wars is
essentially risking his or her own life; a risk the majority of reporters are not willing to take. The
fear of being found and captured by the cartel is enough to cause a chilling effect among reporters
and even stop some news outlets from reporting on the cartel's actions at all. That's not to say that
news of the cartels' actions doesn't get released to the public. Lepe summarized the media portrayals
of the cartel as such:

Essay On Typology
In the United States, people tend to put themselves into two categories; Republican or Democrat
and, therefore, conservative or liberal. The typologies given by the Pew Research Center go beyond
these two, basic ideologies by keeping typical conservative and liberal ideals intact, but admitting
the mixed viewpoints of many Americans. As a registered independent, someone who does not
define themselves with the two main parties, I was excited to see exactly where I fall on the political
spectrum. What I found was not some profound pinpoint of where I stand, but more of a thinking
point that pressured me to identify my typology on my own.
The typology assigned to me after taking the Pew Research Center survey was "Solid Liberal."

views were more centralized, but I was forced to choose a response with which I did not fully agree.
Many of my answers ended up on the left viewpoint, which I imagine may have happened to many
of the students in class. As far as my assigned typology fitting in with the class, it does, but the
typology I identify with more, "Faith and Family Left," may be less popular. I am disappointed that
our class, and the campus as a whole, does not cater more diverse ideas. It sometimes seems like the
school carries a liberal agenda, which can scare more conservative students away from sharing their
opinion in fear of being shot down by other students. I have seen this happen as copy editor of The
Weather Vane, our student newspaper. Anytime a more conservative opinion article is written, it is
inevitable that an additional article will be published to bash the original. My rantings aside, I do not
think that the "Faith and Family Left" typology would be a good fit for the country due to its
religious aspect. I do believe that faith and politics should not mix. Despite my own values, the
"Solid Liberal" typology would be best suited as the defining ideology for the United States. This
would not be much different

economy, but for some people, it is more difficult to earn than for others. Many factors are
responsible for the gap in wealth people earn; lack of experience, age and low education are some
reasons as to why it is difficult for some to earn money. There are many people who immigrate from
other countries and are unfamiliar with the foundations of employment. Each individual's situation

back to the Code of Hammurabi (1760 B.C.E). At that time people had no choice but to be forced

Essay about The New Side of the News Media
"Everything is known not according to itself, but according to the capacity of the knower"–
Boethius. News reporters know everything about an issue and have many ways to present their
information to the public. People do not realize their opinions are influenced through the media's
reportings, since no one has warned them. These reporters are often called "the fourth branch of
government"(Gabbs) because of their actions. The media is responsible for conveying opinions
through their reports, which does not allow the individual to analyze a situation to form their own
opinions; therefore they are detrimental to the American society. Many news sources include their
opinions through a simple technique of fabricating stories. Most news ... Show more content on

In other words, the media was also capable of changing the attention from the people to the plane.
People mainly talk about the plane instead of the missing family members, which were not given
much respect through the media. Since the media creates opinions, they need a side to stick with.
That is how the terms conservatives and liberals came to be. People consider conservatives to be
Republicans and liberals to be Democrats. News sources like the New York Times and MSNBC are
liberal, while Fox News and the National Review are conservative. Liberals tend to believe in gay
rights, for abortion, no guns, and centralising the government; although, conservatives like the ideas
opposing the liberals. Liberals and Conservatives also have another name: Liberals are called "Left
Wing" and Conservatives are "Right Wing". Those are just some other names used to describe the
two sides because people have a difficult time remembering who supports what. The majority of
people are more apt to have all or half the qualities of the two sides. Physiologically, the human
brain likes to hear what it agrees with. If a news source appeals to the person once(keeping in mind
that

school work to do. One of the articles that helps support my argument is "Researchers have worked
out which majors work the hardest in college"(The Tab). The hardest working major according to
this article is architecture, working and studying 22 hours a week outside of the classroom. The
second is the engineering major, while architect work 22 hours a week this major puts in about 20
hours a week out of class. These majors all definitely include required studying, writing, reading,
doing home work or lab work. These majors have been decided through a national survey taken by
students. For this certain issue I feel that I am considered a centrist on the political spectrum. I feel
like I am centrist because I have times that I have a lot of work one week but another I have more
free time to do with my free time. Most of my friends feel like they are in the center, between a busy
schedule and then a more free schedule. Although my family is more far–right in the political
spectrum because they know we have a lot going on and do not want to feel to intervene in their
studying. When I read the text from the article I picked out from "The Tab" I originally felt like I

The Political Spectrum Analysis
The political spectrum is based off of a number line called a continuum that has five categories in
which people may identify themselves as. The two most contributing factors to identifying where
you stand is the amount of change that you are willing to experience within society and how much
government involvement you would like to take place. On the far left are the Radicals. If someone
labels themself as a radical due to being on the farthest left hand side of the political spectrum they
would want rapid change. They may even act out violently to get their point across. Next working
toward the right hand side are the Liberals. The political party of the Liberals is the Democratic
party. Being labeled as a Liberal means you tend to support more government involvement. You
would believe in gradual change when speaking of the political system itself. In ... Show more

Children do as they see. At a young age my parents would pray before meals and bed and being
involved with church was a big part of our lives which emphasized the importance of religion. My
brother was born three months early only weighing two pounds. It is legal to abort a baby at twenty
four weeks (in the state of Michigan) and he was born at twenty seven weeks. Just three weeks after
the legal time period to abort and yet he was a baby in every sense of the word, just small and
underdeveloped. They believe that all lives matter. He grew up to be just as human as anyone else,
he was not just a clump of cells. Two days after my birth the Columbine massacre occurred. This
made my parents realize how messed up of a society we live in and that they were bringing their
daughter into it. So they made sure to teach their children the value of morality. This in turn is why I
believe the government should be able to tap into suspected criminals personal means of
communication with probable cause to avoid more situations such as this

Social Media Bias
Media Bias in Society
Dick Cheney once said "I do find that the mainstream media oftentimes is what I would consider off
base or has a bias" and that is because there is a bias. Having a bias in social media is not a good
thing because it affects the quality of journalism and the audience's views on politics. No matter
how much people complain about a bias in our society it is not going to change any time soon. The
best thing that the public can do is educate themselves on the social media that agrees with their
views and morals. Two of the top media services, National Public Radio and Fox News, both on
very different ends of the political spectrum but both have a very big impact. National Public Radio,
NPR, is very popular among modern day Liberals because of their values and the topics of their
daily talk shows. According to Googles definition a person with Liberal Morals is "open to new
behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values". There are a lot of people from this
generation who are claiming to not have a specific political standpoint, but most of them fall on the
side of Liberal. This is because the liberal side is all about trying new things and moving on from
past traditions and creating new traditions. Since the majority of young people what to try new
things and are more adventurous, whether they know it or not they fall on the side of being Liberal.

The Political Spectrum Analysis
The political spectrum reveals more than what meets the eye. In the United States, a politician is
typically either left or right; there is often no middle ground. Because of this, she or he is either
liberal (Democratic) or conservative (Republican). So where does that leave those who share values
and policies as those on each side? A politician's position on the political spectrum is determined by
his or her beliefs and policies on several issues, including the government's involvement in both
social policies and the economy. In European politics, the political spectrum is rather a multi–
dimensional space where positions vary based on the state's or government's involvement; an
ideology ranges from authoritarian to individualistic and has ... Show more content on

Who decides the fate of an unborn child? To many, the answer may seem obvious and subjective,
but to a growing number of people the decision should be prohibited and punishable by law. In the
United States, abortion laws are established by state, so the legislation varies. However, recently
President Donald Trump has publicly supported anti–abortion and intends to create national laws to
prohibit all forms of abortions, despite the issue being a state level priority. In Europe, the EU has
not yet established standard laws neither allowing nor prohibiting abortion because the legislation is
determined by country, so one country may allow it while another may not. The ALDE party has

Finding myself on the political spectrum was rather easy. I would classify myself a centrist or
moderate. My views do not completely align with either major ideology and on major issues I'm

ideologies believe in is Democracy. I believe that we must protect democracy at all costs. The rights
that democracy affords us a citizens of the United States are unique and require the upmost respect. I
hold the liberal view that the government should protect the public safety. I believe the government
is responsible to protect its people and act in the publics best interests. Therefore, I also hold the
views that gun control and protection of the environment must be enacted and legislated to protect

Taking a Look at Political Ideologies
It's an understatement to say our ideology shapes the way we live our lives every day. It affects the
way we view and react to different people. Ideology is a set of beliefs that affects our outlook on the
entire world. Most of the time ideology refers to a set of political beliefs or a set of ideas that relate
to religious views. In a simpler meaning, ideology means having a views or opinions based on your
ideas of that thing.
The Republican ideology today is based on conservatism. They believe in free market economy and
the government's job is to provide for its citizens with military protection. A conservative is
someone who values the heritage that comes from the past. They believe in classical principles and
tend to be more self–righteous. Conservative Republicans believe in tradition, less regulation and
free enterprise. They believe in their rights and are hard working. This is the belief that you get what
you work for but the government still helps the ones in need.
Democrats think it is the responsibility of the government to care for all individuals. Democrats are
weak compared to the rest of the political ideologies. They believe the government knows what is
best for the citizens. A Democratic liberal is where democracy uses the principles of liberalism. This
includes social and economic equality. Liberals want the government to help with the lower class
and regulate the rich to ensure they do not have too much power. Liberals do not want a completely

The View Of The Utopian Vision
At this point, Pinker explains that the Utopian Vision is coming to an end with the support of the
entire political spectrum. The Tragic Vision, on the other hand, has the ability to coexist with the
entire political spectrum. This is due to the fact that Tragic Vision has flexibility and it allows for
learning well as growth in human nature. Despite the fact that humans for the most part are selfish
we have an ability to learn from our mistakes and grow from them and in this way the Tragic View
encompasses the ideologies of both sides of the political spectrum. People from a left–wing often
find it difficult coming to terms with recent discoveries of the modern sciences. They have a hard
time abandoning their ideals, yet they cannot deny ticular innate parts of human nature. This could
suggest that these two are not mutually exclusive, even though that is Pinker believes. The left wing
may find some hope in Chomsky's work. Chomsky works to defend the desire for the community
desire for creative expression, as well as the innate cognitive endowment which involves an inborn
language faculty. Such parts of human nature suggest that despite our desire for self–preservation,
we may also have an equally powerful need for peaceful expression and community. Pinker then
suggests that humans are willing to take part in reciprocity, and in that way are not completely
selfish. For evidence, he brings forth the works of Herbert dentists and Samuel Bowles. Both men

The Theory Of Basic Income
Introduction
Basic income has been an increased topic of debate in Canada during the last decades. Basic income
is a form of social security that grants all citizens an unconditional income. Tony Fitzpatrick, a PhD
on the topic of basic income (1999), claims that the radical right is a strong opposer to basic income
because of their belief that basic income maintains a high possibility for abuse. In contrast, Daniel
Raventós (2007) , a professor of the department of sociological theory at the faculty of economics
and business at the University of Barcelona , claims that the left supports adopting a basic income
policy because they believe that it would efficiently reduce poverty gaps . I argue that employing a
basic income in Canada would serve the country positively by giving individuals a chance to get
back on their feet, countering the radical right ideologies that basic income is just a chance for
individuals to abuse the system. This paper will first examine the issues from an economic
perspective. It will then examine the social benefits and possible downfalls of a basic income.
Finally, it will evaluate basic income from individual political agendas.
The implementation of a basic income : From an Economical perspective Fitzpatrick (1999)
suggests that the radical right believes that introducing a basic income would get rid of people's
need to work, therefore reducing people's economic success and opening not only them, but their
nation, up for financial

The Political Spectrum Of South Africa
With the advent spread of the English language during the colonial conquests the world had
undergone a vast array of changes, and some of these changes that seems to have gone unnoticed for
some part is how deeply the English language has impacted and changed a country 's identity
entirely. Then the question arises whether those changes are in fact beneficial or detrimental for
language acquisition and maintenance for future generations to come. This essay will focus on my
country of choice, South Africa, and will discuss how three different dimensions have been
impacted by the English language. I will first focus on the historical dimensions to gain a better
understanding of the circumstances within South Africa in the past and in today 's context,
especially how the English language had arrived and completely shaped South Africa as a whole.
Furthermore, following the historical impact, this essay will go deeper into the political spectrum of
South Africa, and discuss how the country shifted from the Apartheid era to its contemporary state.
Lastly, I will discuss how the educational system has impacted the growing new generation to get a
clearer understanding of how the country has been changed to adapt to the more globalised world
that we live in now and will raise some questions about how language, being one of the key aspects
that makes us human, could be wilfully applied for coercion into a chosen form of hegemony, and
will thus demonstrate the importance of language in

b. Is this a reportable injury/illness? Why or Why not
This scenario is not a reportable injury. According to the OSHA, when an employee needs only to
use "irrigation" to remove foreign objects in or embedded in the eye, this is NOT a reportable injury.
William Kane stated that he used an "eye wash" and his eye felt much better. William was not

The Political Orientation And Participation Of Individuals...
The 'big five' is a model that has been used to identify personality traits the have a reflection in the
political orientation and participation of individuals. In this essay I will be arguing that the
personality of individuals has less of an impact on their political behaviour than other factors
including age, gender and socioeconomic status. Research in relation to the big five has shown that
there are two areas of the 'big five' that have more influence than others, I will be discussing why
scoring higher on the openness section of the big five may mean that you are more likely to be a
supporter who is more liberal or on the left of the political spectrum. Contrasting this if you score
higher on the conscientiousness scale you are more likely to be right wing or conservative on the
political spectrum. The big five does not necessarily identify if a person is more likely to vote or not,
just solely orientation so this essay will discuss factors that can change the probability of
participation in politics.
The big five is a theory of 5 domains of personality, which dates back to approximately 1884. The
five domains relate to the ideas of openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, emotional stability
and extraversion. Openness, which is mainly in regard to experience, can be defined as breadth,
depth, originality, and complexity of an individuals' mental and experiential life. Conscientiousness

Speech On Freedom Of Speech
It would have been inconceivable to the Founding Fathers that Americans would ever arrive to a
point in time where large parts of American society would support limiting the freedom of speech
against those who disagree with them. The right to free speech is so important that the entire First
Amendment of the United States Constitution is dedicated to the right to free speech, giving
Americans a responsibility to protect this right, even against those who they disagree with. Political
events over the last several years has created an environment where those who spoke out against
actions and policies of President Barak Obama were shut down as racist, with no consideration to
the content of the argument to today where those who disagree with the loudest screamers are shut
down as being Nazi's, racists, and misogynists. The issue of freedom of speech is one that is of the
utmost importance, but is one that is being eroded particularly on college campuses where it is no
longer safe to have any opinion other than what those on the extreme left have. In the United States
of America freedom of speech is a basic right afforded to all people, until college students and those
on the left roll back their disdain for this core tenet of our nation, our culture, our way or life, and
our freedoms are at risk. Freedom of speech is as American as apple pie and to consider that
freedom of speech is under attack is frightening for many reasons. While many would point to the
2016 presidential campaign as the point when the issue of free speech came under attack, on college
campuses that attack has been going on for much longer. Over the course of the last four years,
American students on college campuses have used violence and threats of violence to shut down any
voice that they disagree with, refusing to entertain and perspective that does not reflect their own
(Rampell, 2017). Examples of this can be found on nearly every major college campus in this
country, from Missouri, which has had to shut down a large number of their dormitories due to a
drastic decrease in enrollment after student protests against the first amendment to the continuing
inability of Berkley University to safely ensure centrist or conservative

Liberal Media Bias
Anyone paying attention to the 2016 election cycle is aware of latest accusations hurled by the
Republican candidates against CNBC and their "mishandling" of the Republican debate. This recent
outrage against the network is a product of the deeply rooted sentiment among Republicans in
particular that there is a giant liberal news media bias working to further the agenda of the
Democratic Party. Presidential hopeful, Marco Rubio, said that the media was a super PAC for
Hillary Clinton and Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee chairman, said, "CNBC should

Using a "common understanding" of what liberal and conservatism means, National Review and the
Progressive were chosen to be the standard of conservative and liberal media. Time and Newsweek
were considered to be largely more neutral in their coverage. So, by comparing the two neutral
magazines to the two partisan magazines the amount of bias could be measured (Adkins). The
results found that Time and Newsweek proved to be largely centrist; however, there was a slight bias
to the center–left. This finding, however, was not statistically significant and the two publications
remain in the "center" range (Adkins). Other studies have shown that there is little evidence to
support the notion that the media as a whole is significantly biased in one direction or the other.
However, there is evidence that there is a slight liberal bias in television network news (D'Alessio).
Despite these findings, 70% of Americans believe that the media as a whole are biased compared to
just 55% in 2014. However, earlier findings and studies show that on a large scale there is roughly a
balance between conservative and liberal media sources which refutes the idea that as a whole the
media are "biased". Instead, it is more akin to a "tug–of–war" in which each side balances each other
out. So this leads to the question as to why a greater number of

Essay On Latin America Turns To The Left
Latin America Turns to The Left Within the last 20 years many Latin American nations have
changed course from a neoliberal polity to one that is sided more to the left wing spectrum. "A
significant part of Latin America is governed today by political movements and governments that
call themselves 'leftist' or are classified as such by external observers." (Luna) Furthermore, the shift
in direction politically has been classified by 3 factors; "1) opposing incumbents by mobilizing
economic and political discontent; 2) being able to bring together a broad, socially heterogeneous

This tension deeply erodes the regime's material foundations and leads citizens to look for better

economy and providing equality is the same rhetoric that all of the above mentioned leaders used
while they were running for office. "Most observers agree that various left–wing parties,
movements, and leaders in Latin America share a common commitment to egalitarianism; a
willingness to use the state to balance market forces; and a belief in the importance of popular
participation." (Cameron) When examining the relationship between a population and it's
connection to the state, a clearer picture can be found that sheds light on how the shift to more left
or left of center polities have begun to rise. "In Latin America, there are cases such as Chile,
Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Mexico, in which the identification between nation and state is very
strong. In other countries like Guatemala, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru such identity is weak. The
ethnic aspect lends to play a crucial role in the degree of identification between population and
state.... This also means that those countries that are more advanced in terms of state formation, and
that show a stronger identification between the state and its population, have better conditions for
the establishment of democratic left–wing governments." (Lynch) Ultimately, these dramatic shifts

The Importance Of Artifice In Society
Although many people may like to think of America as a honest and moral nation, it is no secret that
artifice has cemented itself as an indispensable skill, exploited by many to achieve their own
ambitions. Artifice, characterized through the usage of cunning devices or expedients to deceive
others, is often utilized by politicians and organizations to help push their own agendas. As
illustrated by Chris Hedges in his social commentary, Empire of Illusion, "artifice" has emerged to
become so ubiquitous and essential throughout American society, whether in business or the
entertainment industry. Essential, in the essence that without it, people in any industry are more
likely to be disadvantaged in achieving their personal goals. In today's modern world, no area has
seen more abuse of artifice than in the field of media and politics. Its common knowledge that
newspapers skew reports to their own biases and politicians often tell half–truths to cover–up
ulterior motives. Unfortunately, these politicians and media giants hold extremely influential
positions in society, and their usage of artifice is extremely damaging to the integrity and
accountability within the United States. As a result, the press as well as the general populace must
utilize free speech to expose this behavior. Despite the complete immorality of the usage of artifice,
such chicanery remains essential for success in media and politics. Artifice generated through the
media plays a pivotal role in the spread

Liberalism in Canadian Government Essay
Liberalism is the best ideology for Canada's government and is a good combination of both
Socialism and Conservatism. Liberalism takes the finer parts from both ideologies to create a better
form of government. Canadians now have a choice in which ideology they like better by this
compromised form of government. The centre of the spectrum and the equilibrium of government
and individual ownership is the definition of Liberalism.
A good example of why Liberalism is the number one choice from most Canadians is public and

this is, as sad as it is to say, people need to be given some direction because people make mistakes.
With this is in play, limits can be made to how low prices go or how you can't sell certain items.
Liberalism is exactly this and is already being implemented throughout Canada. I find no problems

People are not equal. The whole idea of trying out for a team or getting a scholarship is what makes
us human. Humans are naturally competitive and strive to become better at whatever it is they enjoy.
Everybody is different, they can be smarter, stronger, faster, etc. Therefore I believe that people with
smarter, more complex jobs, should deserve more money. People who do not apply themselves
should earn less money. Again though, it comes down to choices. Unions were created in Canada for
the socialist point of view, where every worker in a union get roughly the same pay and are treated
fairly. Other jobs will offer

The Problem With 24 Hour News

  • 1. The Problem With 24 Hour News Dustin Wisby English II Ms. Stewart 9–21–2014 The Problem with 24 Hour News & biasness of each During any breaking news segment on any 24 hour news coverage channel there seems to always be problems and mistakes that are made by reporters for not having the correct information on the story. Also when there is no significant stories to report on there seems to be a cycle of information that each news channel tries to throw at you. Examples of this would be presidential stories, repeating stories over and over, and so on. Just imagine if one had to have something to say constantly about anything and everything they could find. Would that not get annoying listening to one person speak all day every day about anything they could find. So why do we have these problems and is it even good for the people of the United States to have twenty–four hour news channels? At the beginning of television news an arrangement existed between television journalists and the public. It was look at as that in modern times promotion journalism was normal. The United States was the modern, broadminded leader of the free world. When Walter Cronkite reported on the daily count of deaths of American soldiers in Vietnam, in lead to the antiwar disapprovals of the 1960s. One man changed how the United States look at the war with his power and influence to change people opinions. (Mann) With rise of CNN, the first 24 Hour News, in the early 1980s continued practice of promotion journalism. But soon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Movie Review : Movies Three Kings With The Siege Of... 1. The movies Three Kings with The Siege of Jadotville, both war like movies, show two different types of political movies. Three Kings which is an overwhelmingly liberal film based on the first Gulf War under president George H. W. Bush and then there is The Siege of Jadotville which is based on the Katanga conflict in Congo–Léopoldville was a centrist film. There are certain criteria that a movie must fall into that enables them to be categorized as a conservative, liberal, revolutionary right, radical right, revolutionary left, and radical right and these films fell into their respective categories. So why were these films categorized like that and what did these films do that place them in these categories along with what being in this category means in terms of the criteria that are fulfilled. A liberal film is one who views the military establishment as a potential threat to democracy and to freedom at home, they view the government as an agent for change, that govt. can be used as a vehicle and can fix a wrong that is currently existing in society, they believe that believe capitalism is wasteful, exploitative and unfair, liberals view the class system as discriminatory, repressive and unjust, when it comes to crime liberal are most often depicted as the victims being dominated by corrupt bosses, poor schools, bad police, bad parents and brutal prisons, criminals are victims and are dominated by these corrupt figures, they view law enforcement as corrupt and bigoted, ... • 5. The Political Spectrum Government The political spectrum is a system to categorize the Political Parties and Political Ideologies. The oldest of the spectra used today includes a right wing and a left wing. This originated from the seating arrangements of the French Parliament after the Revolution (1789–99). According to the left–right political spectrum, Pure Communism and Socialism being on the left, and Anarchy being on the far left end of the spectrum. On the opposite of side of the axis, Capitalism and Fascism on the far right of the spectrum. Historical Origin The terminology "left" and "right" specifically refer to the original seating arrangements of the different legislative bodies in the French Parliament. From the speaker's point of view, the Aristocracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A political ideology by definition is a certain set of ethical ideals, principles, doctrines, myths or symbols of a social movement, institution, class, and/or large group that explains how society should work, and offers some political and cultural blueprint for a certain social order. On account of the details given above, Communism is a Left–wing political ideology. Communism's ultimate goal to reach is to make a communist society, which is a socioeconomic order structured upon the common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the state. A modern day example would be Cuba. They are one of the last lasting nations that follow the true communist ideology. Conversely, China on the other hand is deemed and labeled as communist; however China has altered and made their own communism. On the other side of the spectrum you have another political ideology, Nazism. It is the ideology and practice that the Nazi Party of Germany on the far right of the spectrum used and furthermore based their Political action on. The Nazis aimed to make a German Pure country, and to rid of all "inferior" races. This is an extreme of Fascism. On the contrary of both extreme political ideologies, in the center of the political spectrum we have Centrism Ideology. Centrism is a political outlook or specific function that involves acceptance or aid of a balance of a degree of social equality and a measure of social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Argumentative Essay On Gun Violence The modern world is full of different opinions, values, and beliefs. The people behind these beliefs often find it hard to connect with the ideas of others. America is so divided on some many topics that it's hard not to hear about these topics on a daily basis. One such topic is gun control and restriction of firearms for civilians. There are those who want to see the ownership of guns phased out entirely, and those who would rather die defending their firearms than concede to a tyrannical government. While most people don't share those beliefs, that's the kind of opinions you'll see portrayed on media. The liberal left and the conservative right like to slander the other sides merit by showing the most radical people from each side. Philosophers have debated this mindset of us and them, as we see with the left and right. In some cases, they can live together in harmony, in others they can't. Kwame Anthony Appiah is a philosopher that believes both can live in harmony by using universal values. What I am proposing isn't a universal value, per say, but rather an opportunity for compromise. This proposal is focused around gun violence, laws, and regulations. On the topic of gun violence, the truth is never really evident on either side of the spectrum. The left has a notorious history of belittling the free speech of anyone who disagrees with their views on gun control, and labels Alt–right Neo–Nazis. The right also likes to disregard any opinions brought forth by the left, often labeling them social justice warriors and anti–fa. What all this bias boils down to is media's portrayal of topics. The media rarely ever takes an unbiased stance on most controversial subjects, but rather use them to fuel heated debates. What I propose is a government funded form of media, where an unbiased opinion can be presented to the public, and citizens can then form educated opinions on these topics, rather than being spoon fed the opinions of the left or the right. This form of media should be unbiased and welcome to all opinions, while still respecting the beliefs of others. This media platform should be available to the public through all platforms of standard media, i.e.: online, television, radio, and print. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Terrorism And Its Effects On The World Terrorism consists of different range of illegal violent activities which is aimed at intimidating and creating fear in people. I would define terrorism as the use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological." Within this definition, there are three key elements–violence, fear, and intimidation–and each element produce terror in its victims. This paper is going to define and discuss the issue of terrorism and explain the why is it so difficult to get a specific definition for term "terrorism", while making references to some terrorist events and organization such as the holocaust, the black September organization, the boko–haram of west Africa and the al–Qaeda group. Major historic terrorism/ Mass genocide event has been as a result of differences in political beliefs. In most cases this involves, the left and right winged ideologies and a disagreement in the direction of change and the speed at which the change is expected. To the left of the political spectrum we have the Liberals and to the right the Conservatives. The Liberals consist of individuals who believe there is room for progressive change, the Conservatives on the other hand would rather maintain the status quo and if at all a change is required, it has to be a retrogressive change. • 11. Discuss the successes and failures of the Weimar republic... The Weimar republic from 1919 to 1929 had many successes and failures, starting in chaos and ending in relative stability. However, due to individual perspective these successes and failures were often viewed as both successes and failures– not either. Class, political leanings and other moralistic beliefs, primarily influenced the individual's perspectives. Overall, due to the relative stability, (the aim of any government) primarily achieved by Streseman's influence, the successes outweighed the failures by 1929. November 1918 saw the result of WW1 though Germany's eyes. A crumbled economy, revolution and counter–revolution, the flailing of a government, and an angered mass population– searching for scapegoat in which to blame their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An economic failure in the result to the treaty was hyperinflation. It occurred due to the given amount of reparation payments, which were up in the multiple millions. The war had left the German economy disastrous already, and inflation was rising quickly. The banks started to print more bank notes to solve the problem. The harsh effect, however, was that the money became worthless, as less goods were there to be sold, and so heavy inflation followed. Germany could only pay its first reparation with its industrial products (a prime source for employment, and exports, thus the stability of the economy.) so when Germany declared they couldn't pay the second instalment, the French invaded the Ruhr, the main source of industrial activity for Germany. The government's response was to encourage strikes; this only led two to things; less German produce, with workers still needing to be paid. In attempt to correct this, government printed even more bank notes. Heavy inflation soared to hyperinflation. The middle class saw their savings being brought to no value, right through to the workers not being able to buy a loaf of bread. This shows a chain of failures from the republic– it contributed to the commencement of hyperinflation, and therefore the invasion of the Ruhr– loss of industrial economy. Generally, ... Within the U.S alone there are libertarians (those who 's believe the government is too large both economically and socially.), traditionalist, militarists (those who believe that the military is of the ultimate importance to society and think it should be used more), moderates and many other groups. In international terms the groups that are farthest to the right are known as reactionaries. Most libertarians support a reduction of traditional and religious power while at the same time usually supporting things that will result in a smaller and less active government such as legalization of drugs, an end to most wars, and a reduction in overall governmental influence and power. Libertarians are usually unconcerned about the power of corporations and tend to support measures that result in the government having less control over corporations and the economy. A few libertarians also favor general reductions to entitlement and benefit programs. Moderates are those who while still clearly on the right wing of politics, tend to be closer to the center in there opinions and more willing to compromise. In general moderates tend to hold the same beliefs but to a lesser degree. Most forms of militarism are usually found on the right wing of politics. The number of pure militarists is usually small as most people tend to support other issues in conjunction with militarism, In general any of the above ideologies can have a militarism added onto it. Through examining Amina's story, we have identified which of her rights were violated, and explained why each situation was an infringement of the law, by quoting the relevant sections from the CFSA, Part V, Children's Rights in Care. In addition, we have also explained what we, as Child and Youth Workers (CYWs) would do differently to ensure that Amina's rights are respected. According to the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA, 1990, c. C.11, s. 105 (2)), Amina's Right to Care was violated and she was declined of the following amendments: to receive meals that are well–balanced, of good quality and appropriate for the child; to receive medical care whenever required and; to receive an appropriate education. In her stay at the Oak House, Amina didn't receive meals that were 'appropriate' for her, which was a direct violation of her Right. As an identified Muslim, this situation was a violation because despite complaining to staff that she couldn't eat the pizza with bacon, staff did not take the necessary steps to provide a well–balanced alternative meal in order to ensure she wouldn't go hungry. Also, as part of her punishment for disobeying house rules, the staff at Oak House cancelled her doctor's appointment and forbade her from attending school. • 17. What are the Political Axes Freedom and Authority 1. In your own words, what do the two axes of Political Compass represent? There are many approaches to the political spectrum, one of which involves two–dimensional model of Political Compass, which explores the view of a person divided by two aspects social (Authoritarian and Libertarian) and economic (Left and Right view). The model is represented by two axes which divided the politics into four main areas. The relationship is strong between freedom and authority as in some cases and instances authority defines freedom in either absolute or minimum. The Political Compass took into consideration economic view which is sometimes the easiest way to define somebody's dependence on the system and therefore the individual's freedom to act. The Political Compass are decided by the two axes of: a. The Left–Right axis Taking on the economic approach Right and Left one can distinguish major debates and differences that distinguish people categorizing them along the line of those two extremes which divides power to individual or all power to the State. It is reasonable to say that the Left is defined in desire for an economy to be run and manipulated by solely the state. Laura Stoker, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, created a graph (Figure 1) that separates people's political standing based on their views of state intervention in private life and the economy (The Charles and Louise Travers Department of Political Science University of California, Berkeley). This description allows individuals to compare and contrast the different political views of people. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is not a specific enterprise faction within the conservative movement, but this exemplifies how there is not perfect harmony. More accurately, Lichtman is revealing how the conservative movement, through the joining of the knowledge, influence, and resources from the businesses that invest themselves in the movement, works with the religious side's passion to form a workable base. The first faction of the conservative movement we will analyze is the traditionalist faction. Dunn views the traditionalists as the original leaders of the modern conservative movement. He states they provided intellectual leadership spanning many years. This faction was horrified about the projects to expand government, such as the New Deal and the Great Society. Looking to foreign affairs, they were against the threat of communism (Dunn, vii). James Ceaser includes that presently traditionalists have become "defenders of the culture" (Dunn, 23). Ceaser believes they prefer change that comes naturally rather than change that is created and forced. In this way they aim to "conserve" by keeping more of a status quo or what gradually evolves in politics from situations. This seems to reveal the current situation in which a dramatic change in health care was forced upon the American people, for disapproval continues to be greater than approval (Rasmussen Reports, LLC). • 21. Freedom And Money By G. A. Cohen America is known both conventionally and historically as 'the land of the free'... but is that really the case? In his article titled Freedom and Money, G. A. Cohen addresses this question through the relationship between freedom and money, or more specifically the lack thereof: poverty. As Cohen shows, experts all along the political spectrum agree that the poor are entitled to far less opportunities than their wealthier counterparts. The controversy with the subject thus lies, instead, in the ambiguity of the term "freedom" and what it implies, as well as to what exactly it's beneficiaries are permitted. The political left believes that because the impoverished are financially unable to exercise many of their freedoms, their economic status ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this paper is to further explicate and support Cohen's viewpoint, establish a contemporary counter–argument to such, and finally provide a possible response in support of his argument. In his first section, Cohen states that "I am happy to assume, here, with the right, and with Berlin and Rawls, that freedom is identical with lack of interference" (10). In other words, the overwhelming opinion within Cohen's article is that freedom, at the very base level, is defined by an absence of interference by anybody on one's social liberties. Per the right's argument, because poverty is characterized by lack of means and not lack of freedom, poverty does not necessarily entail a lack of freedom. However, Cohen ultimately contends that "lack of money includes lack of freedom, even if we accept the identification of freedom with lack of interference" (11). He uses a variety of arguments to assess this claim, but the biggest one is an analogy to a theoretical society. In this society, there is no money, but rather, somebody's freedoms ... Ideological differences between various political groups were in existence due to the radicalized time, however not to the extent as in most other European nations at the time as Spain was not as heavily involved in or impacted by WWI. This question has been dancing in the background of American academia for decades, and yet almost no one has acknowledged its significance. People from all positions on the political spectrum seem to have accepted this reality to some extent, but what does it mean for education today? Neil Gross conducted a series of research experiments over the course of seven years, discovering the bases for this claim and the implications it holds for educators and students. His publication of Why Are Professors Liberal and Why Do Conservatives Care? offers an in–depth examination and analysis of professional politics on college–campuses, giving its readers a new answer to an old question. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gross and a colleague of his, Solon Simmons, enacted a study to update previously conducted research to modern standards (pp. 34–41). They examined preferences, values, and historical tendencies. The results led to Gross's creation of the "political identity" approach for academics that he relies on throughout the remainder of his book (p.39). He found the majority of professors, in reality, did identify with the left side of the political spectrum. However, this taxonomy can be further broken down. Marxists, progressives, and centrist–democrats all account for the larger label of "democrat," with most of them belonging to the progressive category. This liberalism, by American standards, is more lenient toward change and social equality. Why does this liberal concentration exist and what does it mean for students? These questions are inspected from outside perspectives in the second chapter. Researchers proposed four main hypotheses to clarify these circumstances. Pierre Bourdieu studied Parisian school faculties, concluding that their political tendencies were dependent upon their position class structure (p.69). While this had some weight in Europe, American politics were not so easily explained. Next, Steven Brint examined that perhaps the large amount of time spent in upper–level education institutions by professors leads to their liberalism (p.79). • 27. Compare And Contrast The American Political Spectrum The American Political Spectrum is a system used to classify the different political and social viewpoints of the American People. The system is places one on a horizontal spectrum depending on their beliefs; if one is a liberal they go on the left area of the line and if one is a conservative they go on the right area of the line– the greater they are of those two categories the farther down they go on the line. The terms "liberal" and "conservative" are derived from the ideologies of Liberalism and Conservatism, respectively, which differ greatly. The root of all the differences between liberalism and conservatism can be traced to their beliefs in human nature. Human nature is the behavior of humans in their rawest state, with no interference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My liberal side says to give open up the US to refugees. They're human and deserve to live a life where they do not have to worry about having their family caught in a crossfire between drug lords or sides of a revolution, and keeping millions innocent people out a nation seems wrong. However, the actual logistics and handling of the refugees would be very elaborate. The whole process would be incredibly difficult to carry out, and there would always be the "threat" of one of the refugees being a terrorist. Due to the current tension between the United States and the terrorist groups of the Middle East, I wouldn't keep allow refugees from the region. As much as it hurts me to keep an entire group of innocent victims in such a situation, the American Public would be opposed to it and I do not have the time, knowledge, or money to create a system for allowing refugees from the Middle East to take refuge in the US– despite what I believe. Luckily, I am not the President or Secretary of State, and the handling of Syrian refugees and other refugees from the Middle East is Germany's issue. • 29. The Political Spectrum Of The United States Outside of the political spectrum, there is another group of organizations that have perhaps and even stronger grasp on the media than media regulators themselves. The incredibly complex and well organized drug cartels that base themselves mostly in northern Mexico and along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico are in many ways the most influential organizations in the nation's media. As mentioned earlier, Mexican citizens were granted freedom of the press in the 1857 Federal Constitution giving them expressional rights that closely resembled the United States' on paper. However, as the cartels ran rampant throughout the country some indirect restrictions were put on these rights. The cartels employ ruthless violence and torture in order to punish those who oppose them, including journalists and reporters who attempt to portray them in a negative light. Over the past decade "there have been '172 attacks on press freedom, including nine journalists and two media workers killed'" (Hernandez–Garcia 2012). As a result, anyone reporting on the drug wars is essentially risking his or her own life; a risk the majority of reporters are not willing to take. The fear of being found and captured by the cartel is enough to cause a chilling effect among reporters and even stop some news outlets from reporting on the cartel's actions at all. That's not to say that news of the cartels' actions doesn't get released to the public. Lepe summarized the media portrayals of the cartel as such: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The typologies given by the Pew Research Center go beyond these two, basic ideologies by keeping typical conservative and liberal ideals intact, but admitting the mixed viewpoints of many Americans. As a registered independent, someone who does not define themselves with the two main parties, I was excited to see exactly where I fall on the political spectrum. Also, the questions on the test only listed only the two extremes for responses. Many of my actual views were more centralized, but I was forced to choose a response with which I did not fully agree. As far as my assigned typology fitting in with the class, it does, but the typology I identify with more, "Faith and Family Left," may be less popular. I am disappointed that our class, and the campus as a whole, does not cater more diverse ideas. It sometimes seems like the school carries a liberal agenda, which can scare more conservative students away from sharing their opinion in fear of being shot down by other students. I have seen this happen as copy editor of The Weather Vane, our student newspaper. Anytime a more conservative opinion article is written, it is inevitable that an additional article will be published to bash the original. My rantings aside, I do not think that the "Faith and Family Left" typology would be a good fit for the country due to its religious aspect. I do believe that faith and politics should not mix. Despite my own values, the "Solid Liberal" typology would be best suited as the defining ideology for the United States. This would not be much different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People mainly talk about the plane instead of the missing family members, which were not given much respect through the media. Since the media creates opinions, they need a side to stick with. That is how the terms conservatives and liberals came to be. People consider conservatives to be Republicans and liberals to be Democrats. News sources like the New York Times and MSNBC are liberal, while Fox News and the National Review are conservative. Liberals tend to believe in gay rights, for abortion, no guns, and centralising the government; although, conservatives like the ideas opposing the liberals. The Importance Of The Hardest Working Students In College The issue that I am prevailing is that college students are some of the hardest working people in todays society, we are dedicated to achieve our goals to have a great future ahead of us. When a student says there are busy, that most likely means that they do indeed have a good amount of school work to do. One of the articles that helps support my argument is "Researchers have worked out which majors work the hardest in college"(The Tab). The hardest working major according to this article is architecture, working and studying 22 hours a week outside of the classroom. The second is the engineering major, while architect work 22 hours a week this major puts in about 20 hours a week out of class. These majors all definitely include required studying, writing, reading, doing home work or lab work. These majors have been decided through a national survey taken by students. The two most contributing factors to identifying where you stand is the amount of change that you are willing to experience within society and how much government involvement you would like to take place. On the far left are the Radicals. If someone labels themself as a radical due to being on the farthest left hand side of the political spectrum they would want rapid change. They may even act out violently to get their point across. Next working toward the right hand side are the Liberals. The political party of the Liberals is the Democratic party. Having a bias in social media is not a good thing because it affects the quality of journalism and the audience's views on politics. No matter how much people complain about a bias in our society it is not going to change any time soon. The best thing that the public can do is educate themselves on the social media that agrees with their views and morals. In the United States, a politician is typically either left or right; there is often no middle ground. Because of this, she or he is either liberal (Democratic) or conservative (Republican). • 49. Taking a Look at Political Ideologies It's an understatement to say our ideology shapes the way we live our lives every day. It affects the way we view and react to different people. Ideology is a set of beliefs that affects our outlook on the entire world. Most of the time ideology refers to a set of political beliefs or a set of ideas that relate to religious views. In a simpler meaning, ideology means having a views or opinions based on your ideas of that thing. The Republican ideology today is based on conservatism. They believe in free market economy and the government's job is to provide for its citizens with military protection. A conservative is someone who values the heritage that comes from the past. They believe in classical principles and tend to be more self–righteous. Conservative Republicans believe in tradition, less regulation and free enterprise. They believe in their rights and are hard working. This is the belief that you get what you work for but the government still helps the ones in need. Democrats think it is the responsibility of the government to care for all individuals. Democrats are weak compared to the rest of the political ideologies. They believe the government knows what is best for the citizens. A Democratic liberal is where democracy uses the principles of liberalism. This includes social and economic equality. The Tragic Vision, on the other hand, has the ability to coexist with the entire political spectrum. This is due to the fact that Tragic Vision has flexibility and it allows for learning well as growth in human nature. Despite the fact that humans for the most part are selfish we have an ability to learn from our mistakes and grow from them and in this way the Tragic View encompasses the ideologies of both sides of the political spectrum. People from a left–wing often find it difficult coming to terms with recent discoveries of the modern sciences. They have a hard time abandoning their ideals, yet they cannot deny ticular innate parts of human nature. This could suggest that these two are not mutually exclusive, even though that is Pinker believes. The left wing may find some hope in Chomsky's work. Chomsky works to defend the desire for the community desire for creative expression, as well as the innate cognitive endowment which involves an inborn language faculty. Such parts of human nature suggest that despite our desire for self–preservation, we may also have an equally powerful need for peaceful expression and community. Pinker then suggests that humans are willing to take part in reciprocity, and in that way are not completely selfish. For evidence, he brings forth the works of Herbert dentists and Samuel Bowles. • 57. The Theory Of Basic Income Introduction Basic income has been an increased topic of debate in Canada during the last decades. Basic income is a form of social security that grants all citizens an unconditional income. Tony Fitzpatrick, a PhD on the topic of basic income (1999), claims that the radical right is a strong opposer to basic income because of their belief that basic income maintains a high possibility for abuse. In contrast, Daniel Raventós (2007) , a professor of the department of sociological theory at the faculty of economics and business at the University of Barcelona , claims that the left supports adopting a basic income policy because they believe that it would efficiently reduce poverty gaps . I argue that employing a basic income in Canada would serve the country positively by giving individuals a chance to get back on their feet, countering the radical right ideologies that basic income is just a chance for individuals to abuse the system. This paper will first examine the issues from an economic perspective. It will then examine the social benefits and possible downfalls of a basic income. Finally, it will evaluate basic income from individual political agendas. The implementation of a basic income : From an Economical perspective Fitzpatrick (1999) suggests that the radical right believes that introducing a basic income would get rid of people's need to work, therefore reducing people's economic success and opening not only them, but their nation, up for financial ... Then the question arises whether those changes are in fact beneficial or detrimental for language acquisition and maintenance for future generations to come. Furthermore, following the historical impact, this essay will go deeper into the political spectrum of South Africa, and discuss how the country shifted from the Apartheid era to its contemporary state. Lastly, I will discuss how the educational system has impacted the growing new generation to get a clearer understanding of how the country has been changed to adapt to the more globalised world that we live in now and will raise some questions about how language, being one of the key aspects that makes us human, could be wilfully applied for coercion into a chosen form of hegemony, and will thus demonstrate the importance of language in ... The 'big five' is a model that has been used to identify personality traits the have a reflection in the political orientation and participation of individuals. In this essay I will be arguing that the personality of individuals has less of an impact on their political behaviour than other factors including age, gender and socioeconomic status. Research in relation to the big five has shown that there are two areas of the 'big five' that have more influence than others, I will be discussing why scoring higher on the openness section of the big five may mean that you are more likely to be a supporter who is more liberal or on the left of the political spectrum. Contrasting this if you score higher on the conscientiousness scale you are more likely to be right wing or conservative on the political spectrum. The big five does not necessarily identify if a person is more likely to vote or not, just solely orientation so this essay will discuss factors that can change the probability of participation in politics. The five domains relate to the ideas of openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, emotional stability and extraversion. • 65. Speech On Freedom Of Speech It would have been inconceivable to the Founding Fathers that Americans would ever arrive to a point in time where large parts of American society would support limiting the freedom of speech against those who disagree with them. The right to free speech is so important that the entire First Amendment of the United States Constitution is dedicated to the right to free speech, giving Americans a responsibility to protect this right, even against those who they disagree with. Political events over the last several years has created an environment where those who spoke out against actions and policies of President Barak Obama were shut down as racist, with no consideration to the content of the argument to today where those who disagree with the loudest screamers are shut down as being Nazi's, racists, and misogynists. The issue of freedom of speech is one that is of the utmost importance, but is one that is being eroded particularly on college campuses where it is no longer safe to have any opinion other than what those on the extreme left have. In the United States of America freedom of speech is a basic right afforded to all people, until college students and those on the left roll back their disdain for this core tenet of our nation, our culture, our way or life, and our freedoms are at risk. Freedom of speech is as American as apple pie and to consider that freedom of speech is under attack is frightening for many reasons. While many would point to the 2016 presidential campaign as the point when the issue of free speech came under attack, on college campuses that attack has been going on for much longer. Over the course of the last four years, American students on college campuses have used violence and threats of violence to shut down any voice that they disagree with, refusing to entertain and perspective that does not reflect their own (Rampell, 2017). Examples of this can be found on nearly every major college campus in this country, from Missouri, which has had to shut down a large number of their dormitories due to a drastic decrease in enrollment after student protests against the first amendment to the continuing inability of Berkley University to safely ensure centrist or conservative ... • 69. Liberal Media Bias Anyone paying attention to the 2016 election cycle is aware of latest accusations hurled by the Republican candidates against CNBC and their "mishandling" of the Republican debate. This recent outrage against the network is a product of the deeply rooted sentiment among Republicans in particular that there is a giant liberal news media bias working to further the agenda of the Democratic Party. Presidential hopeful, Marco Rubio, said that the media was a super PAC for Hillary Clinton and Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee chairman, said, "CNBC should be ashamed of how this debate was handled" (CNN). If this theory were true, then the odds would be stacked in the Democratic Party's favor and there may be cause for legitimate concern. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using a "common understanding" of what liberal and conservatism means, National Review and the Progressive were chosen to be the standard of conservative and liberal media. Time and Newsweek were considered to be largely more neutral in their coverage. So, by comparing the two neutral magazines to the two partisan magazines the amount of bias could be measured (Adkins). The results found that Time and Newsweek proved to be largely centrist; however, there was a slight bias to the center–left. This finding, however, was not statistically significant and the two publications remain in the "center" range (Adkins). Other studies have shown that there is little evidence to support the notion that the media as a whole is significantly biased in one direction or the other. However, there is evidence that there is a slight liberal bias in television network news (D'Alessio). Despite these findings, 70% of Americans believe that the media as a whole are biased compared to just 55% in 2014. However, earlier findings and studies show that on a large scale there is roughly a balance between conservative and liberal media sources which refutes the idea that as a whole the media are "biased". Instead, it is more akin to a "tug–of–war" in which each side balances each other out. So this leads to the question as to why a greater number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Essay On Latin America Turns To The Left Latin America Turns to The Left Within the last 20 years many Latin American nations have changed course from a neoliberal polity to one that is sided more to the left wing spectrum. "A significant part of Latin America is governed today by political movements and governments that call themselves 'leftist' or are classified as such by external observers." (Luna) Furthermore, the shift in direction politically has been classified by 3 factors; "1) opposing incumbents by mobilizing economic and political discontent; 2) being able to bring together a broad, socially heterogeneous electoral constituency in the context of fragmented societies; and 3) having a charismatic leader who was able to achieve 2 by pursuing 1." This tension deeply erodes the regime's material foundations and leads citizens to look for better alternatives for reconciling the economy with politics." (Lynch) This idea of reconciling the economy and providing equality is the same rhetoric that all of the above mentioned leaders used while they were running for office. "Most observers agree that various left–wing parties, movements, and leaders in Latin America share a common commitment to egalitarianism; a willingness to use the state to balance market forces; and a belief in the importance of popular participation." (Cameron) When examining the relationship between a population and it's connection to the state, a clearer picture can be found that sheds light on how the shift to more left or left of center polities have begun to rise. "In Latin America, there are cases such as Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Mexico, in which the identification between nation and state is very strong. In other countries like Guatemala, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru such identity is weak. The ethnic aspect lends to play a crucial role in the degree of identification between population and state.... This also means that those countries that are more advanced in terms of state formation, and that show a stronger identification between the state and its population, have better conditions for the establishment of democratic left–wing governments." • 77. The Importance Of Artifice In Society Although many people may like to think of America as a honest and moral nation, it is no secret that artifice has cemented itself as an indispensable skill, exploited by many to achieve their own ambitions. Artifice, characterized through the usage of cunning devices or expedients to deceive others, is often utilized by politicians and organizations to help push their own agendas. As illustrated by Chris Hedges in his social commentary, Empire of Illusion, "artifice" has emerged to become so ubiquitous and essential throughout American society, whether in business or the entertainment industry. Essential, in the essence that without it, people in any industry are more likely to be disadvantaged in achieving their personal goals. In today's modern world, no area has seen more abuse of artifice than in the field of media and politics. Its common knowledge that newspapers skew reports to their own biases and politicians often tell half–truths to cover–up ulterior motives. Unfortunately, these politicians and media giants hold extremely influential positions in society, and their usage of artifice is extremely damaging to the integrity and accountability within the United States. As a result, the press as well as the general populace must utilize free speech to expose this behavior. Despite the complete immorality of the usage of artifice, such chicanery remains essential for success in media and politics. Artifice generated through the media plays a pivotal role in the spread ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 79. Liberalism in Canadian Government Essay Liberalism is the best ideology for Canada's government and is a good combination of both Socialism and Conservatism. Liberalism takes the finer parts from both ideologies to create a better form of government. Canadians now have a choice in which ideology they like better by this compromised form of government. The centre of the spectrum and the equilibrium of government and individual ownership is the definition of Liberalism. A good example of why Liberalism is the number one choice from most Canadians is public and privatized hospitals. Right now, Canada only has public hospitals that are free for everybody in need of medical assistance but require a health care plan. Public hospitals are paid by taxes, just like public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or they won't have to spend tons of money on private doctors. Instead, Canadians would have a choice and freedom to choose whichever ideology objective they prefer. This reason why we get such low and competitive prices on goods is due to the fact that we have less government control on what kinds of shoes to wear, colour car to drive, etc. This is a mostly Conservationist, who agree that their should be individual ownership on things. The problem with this is, as sad as it is to say, people need to be given some direction because people make mistakes. With this is in play, limits can be made to how low prices go or how you can't sell certain items. Liberalism is exactly this and is already being implemented throughout Canada. I find no problems with the way Canada's economy is running now, so why change it? People are not equal. The whole idea of trying out for a team or getting a scholarship is what makes us human. Humans are naturally competitive and strive to become better at whatever it is they enjoy. Everybody is different, they can be smarter, stronger, faster, etc. Therefore I believe that people with smarter, more complex jobs, should deserve more money. People who do not apply themselves should earn less money. Again though, it comes down to choices. Unions were created in Canada for the socialist point of view, where every worker in a union get roughly the same pay and are treated fairly. Other jobs will offer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
