Personal Cultural Reflection & Philosophy Paper – Michael
Personal Cultural Reflection & Philosophy Paper – Michael Travis
i. Introduction:
ii. Exploration:
I would describe myself as someone with a deep understanding of self, someone who can recognize
and yield meaning from all of the life's experiences, both the good and the bad. Viktor Frankl said,
"if there is a meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering." From my experiences
of personal and family tragedies, I know that suffering is part of life and is unavoidable, it is as
certain as death and completes our journey here on earth; however, we should not let this suffering
go to waste but let it contribute to a deeper meaning to our lives. Through this process my life has
been enriched, it has enabled me to decipher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immigrating to another country, and going through the immigration process, while seeing so many
families from a wide range of diverse backgrounds also going through this process has opened my
eyes to a world of pain, family separation and sheer joy once out the other side of freedoms
including that of religion, persecution, and hatred
These trials, tests have been for my own profit and learning and will greatly impact my world view,
supporting my abilities to be a great counselor as I work with an array of cultures, backgrounds and
belief systems. Having experienced firsthand multiculturalism and diversity know I will be empathic
to those who feel that do not fit in or belong.
My interpretation of counseling from my limited experiences would use the past to establish
foundations, discover where personal or culture beliefs. I believe our past does not determine our
future but can predict where we are headed if we do not allow change to happen or correct our
course. Traumatic ordeals from our past need to be given attention for change and growth to occur,
but, must not be dwelt on. I believe people are inherently good or come from goodness. iii.
Integration
My priorities in life include family relationships, education, recreation and filling the soul with
enlightenment. Surrounding yourself with real intimate relationships that can stand the test of time
will bring happiness and well–being to the

Hip Hop : A Whole New View
Daniel Thomsen English Professor O'Shaughnessy May 14, 2015 Hip Hop: A Whole New View
There are a lot of trends in today's generation that are new and have never been seen before. Social
media is a huge one. However, there is a specific aspect of our generation that started from the
generation before us. This is a huge part of the culture of young adults today and means a lot to
many teens. That part of the culture is music. Music has this weird way of bringing together people
from all walks of life. Music sensation, Rihanna, has her own song titled "Please Don't Stop the
Music", which talks about how music gets people grooving. Within the music category, the focus
will be hip hop and the culture of hip hop. Many people believe that hip ... Show more content on

For example, it is found that eighty percent of the rap music that is currently on the top ten lists
around the world contains violence. They glorify the acts of beating up another person, or even
worse shooting them. Looking like someone who just got released from prison in their eyes is a
good thing. However, what these people do not realize, is that this is the best way these artists know
how to express themselves. "Although rap music and hip hop are often used interchangeably, rap is
only one of (at least) four elements of hip hop" (Moore, 2008). The other three components of hip
hop culture are: DJ–ing, breakdancing, and visual/graffiti art, however the aspect most people focus
on is the musical aspect. It really is just like any other form of music, where an artist uses that style
of music to express themselves. The common notion is that hip–hop music also seems to glorify is
that what matters most when looking for a good woman is what her body looks like. This is why
there are so many teenagers who have eating disorders or other emotional problems. But today, there
are many artists of this genre that care about what women are like deeper than just a physical
attraction. For example, Tupac Shakur's song "Keep Ya Head Up" is a song telling women how
important they are to our society, telling men to treat women with respect, and most importantly,
keep your head up. "You know what makes me unhappy (what's that), when brothas make babies,

Ideology And Ideology
1. In this essay I will be discussing the difference between world views and ideologies and I will
also elaborate between the South African motto and the different worldviews. I will then explain the
influence of this motto for myself as a student–teacher and citizen of South Africa. Knowledge
production is a highly political and politicized practice (Morrell, 2014).
2. A worldview is a philosophy of life or concept of the world: 'a Christian world view revolves
around the battle of good and evil' (University, 1884). A person's worldview can be affected by
many factors in life – it can be affected by their inherited characteristics, by their life situations and
their background experiences, by their values in life, by their attitudes and lastly their habits that
they developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. What is the difference between 'world view' and 'ideology'? These two terms have a slightly
difference nuances in their meaning and in their connotation. Both these terms have a close
meaning. A way to distinguish between the two meanings is to take note that ideology is more
proactive. The ideology will dictate what your actions or policies are where a worldview is more of
a perspective or an explanation of the way that things are, for example a common worldview is that
all humans' life is valuable.
4. Diverse people unite is our South African Motto. We strive to get all the different races to be
valued the same and to have the same opportunities. We strive to get racism out of the way so that
we can live in peace. In other countries they don't have a problem with racism. One worldview that
everyone in South Africa differs about is Christianity. Not all the different cultures have the same
beliefs, some belief in other gods and some believe in Jesus Christ. We as South African citizens
have to accept the fact that not all people have the same views and then move

Christian Worldview Book Review
Philip G. Ryken's book, Christian Worldview a Student's Guide, gives a basic understanding of what
a worldview is and what the Christian worldview presents, along with its importance. According to
Ryken, a worldview is "a fundamental perspective on the world that shapes the way we live"
(Ryken, 2013, p. 17). It is the structure of our understanding, the way we look at life, the framework
of beliefs and convictions, and the meaning of human existence. (pp. 19–20). A worldview has so
much culture–shaping influence because it is not merely a private perspective but more communal
(p. 21). This is especially true for the Christian worldview because it connects all believers
everywhere. Ryken explains that a properly Christian view of the world engages the whole person,
the body, heart, mind, and soul, and is directed to the glory of God (p. 28). Ryken presents the
Christian worldview in four categories or four distinct stories that are used to explain the human
experience. When we apply a Christian worldview we "gain God's perspective on why any
particular thing was made in the first place," which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I work in politics and government, which more often than not rejects, not out of choice but out of
made up obligation, a Christian worldview. So to choose one area is very difficult. However, I will
use the same story of "the fall." Here is the total depravity in full swing. Anything that God may
have to say "must" be offensive and is rejected by many. Others may hold a Christian worldview in
theory but actions speak more loyalty to human authority than God's supreme power. I see, as Ryken
described, sin corrupting hearts so that the affections and pursuits are on unholy desires (p. 66). If
my work place was transformed by this story, the effects could be country wide. It would not just
affect my workplace culture but the culture in and of itself, both positive and negative in some

Learning New Concepts And Points Of View
For my flexibility, it says that I take a highly flexible approach to life and are likely very open to
new and changing ideas and circumstances. I agree with this point a lot, because throughout my life
so far I have had to change things that I have done last minute to accomplish something else that
was going on. Also, it says that I tend to embrace change in school, work and life in general. I agree
with this too, because during school I always got excited when I got a new class because it was
something different. Lastly, it says that flexibility allows me to be open to learning new concepts
and exploring differing points of view. This one is a little harder for me to completely agree to,
because yes I am open to new ideas but not all the time when exploring new concepts and points of
view. One example is when I was suppose to tutor a girl in my high school and she was having
problems finding a time that would work for both of us. I came up with a time during school that we
could meet and I told her that she could come up with any day Monday through Friday at the time
that we had determined would work best for both of us.
My social responsibility is very accurate. It states that I have a strong concern and compassion for
society and act act as a champion for making a difference. The other one says that I likely gain
deeper connection to the welfare of others and as a result, gain a broad perspective of others
struggles. I have always felt that I have had a strong

Galileo's View of the New World Essay
Galileo's letter to the Grand Duchess Christina caused much controversy when it was written in
1613. It caused such controversy because it was an indirect attack on the Catholic Church with a
viewpoint that was not of the 'status quo'. This essay will thoroughly analyse this document. It will
analyse the context behind what was happening in 17th century with regards to science and religion.
Secondly it will critically explain and analyse the grounds behind why this document actually holds
significance. This will make the argument that Galileo wanted to make the distinction between
science and religion. In order to understand and analyse this source, the letter needs to be in its 17th
century context. During this period, the Catholic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that Galileo liked to create controversy . This could set a precedent that Galileo wanted to
cause uproar by going so far to the extreme that the nobles and the Church would take a serious look
into his findings, when he may have exaggerated certain points. One of Galileo's main issues was
the purpose of scripture with regards to interpretation. Galileo makes the argument that Scripture
cannot be wrong but it is up to the interpretation of it. For example, he stated, "Though the scripture
cannot err, nevertheless some of its interpreters and expositors can sometimes err in various ways" .
Furthermore he states that if we were to take the literal meaning of what the scripture states – we
would be personifying God by giving him human characteristics of a body and emotions. In essence
the literal interpretation would give God the right to make mistakes, which of course would not be
accepted by anyone in the church. Galileo did have a basis for his argument on the relation of the
interpretation of scripture with regards to science. Copernicus, in his letter to Pope Paul III, stated
that there are many differing interpretations within the scientists focused on astronomy. One of the
main points he makes is that astronomers cannot agree on how to accurately measure the tropical
year . Copernicus

Opening a Window
A Room with a View by E.D. Forster explores the struggle between the expectations of a
conventional lady of the British upper class and pursuing the heart. Miss Lucy Honeychurch must
choose between class concerns and personal desires.
Honeychurch is a respectable young lady from a well–known family. She travels with Miss
Charlotte Bartlett to Italy at the turn of the century. In Italy they meet Mr. Emerson and George
Emerson. George is young man who falls in love with Lucy. Mr. Emerson is an idealist and a
dreamer.
Only a couple of days after they get to Italy George kisses Lucy while standing in the middle of a
waving field of grass. George does this with out her permission or discussion. Even though this

She is torn between Cecil's world of books and conformity and George's world of passion and
nature. This decision is not easy for Lucy to make.
Lucy came really close to marring the wrong man due to her lack of thought. She has grown up and
lived a life of proper existence. However, Lucy possesses passionate qualities they have just been
repressed her entire life. Her only emotion outlet is the piano, in which she prefers dramatic pieces
by Beethoven. She plays the piano in order to let out her frustrations brought on by her surrounding
characters. Lucy is brought up to be proper and not outgoing or passionate. George will eventually
show her how to be passionate and open to new ideas. George is a man that breaks the chains of
conformity to free Lucy's spirit and he does this efficiency.
George kisses Lucy for the second time and he explains that love exists between them. He tells Lucy
that she can not marry Cecil because he does not understand women and will never understand
Lucy. George also explains that Cecil only thinks that he loves but in actuality only wants her for an
ornament. George, on the other hand, wants her as his partner in the great adventure of life. Lucy
has lied to herself and to everyone else around her until she is eventually cornered into tearfully
admitting her love for George.

Advantages Of Google Glasses
Introduction: Within this assignment I did research on the effect technology has on people's lives.
The main purpose of the investigation was to help our editor of the school newspaper with
information on the various chosen topics so that the articles can be published. The two main topics
covered in the investigation was Oculus Rift and Google Glasses. My main goal for this
investigation and report was to be able to inform people in our school and those who read our
newspaper about the impact of technology, specifically the impact of newly and highly developed
items. I would need to investigate the situation fully to be able to give due feedback pertaining to the
impact technology has and will have on the daily lives of people. The target audience of my

Views on the New Deal
Invisible Hands touches upon how many people saw the New Deal as almost a form of socialism.
Ultimately, the New Deal started a new type of conservatism that was strongly against this new way
of government. The New Deal allowed Americans to rely on government for things such as Social
Security and several other government funded programs. Citizens such as blah were more in favor
of a laissez faire type of government where regulation and government assistance is to a minimum.
In some cases, government programs are beneficial yet can lead to problems down the road. Many
people can learn to abuse the system or rely soley on the government to bail them out of hard times.
This leads to the average American being lazy and with zero drive for ... Show more content on

business. The company thought if the workers could organize so well to picket the company and
strike from their job, they could be supporters of his conservative political belief. General Electric
saw their workers as a "captive political audience, a group of people who could be organized to
oppose the New Deal and liberalism through lectures, reading groups and political messages." (108)
During a strike for higher wages, General Electric decided to keep factories open and operational
until the workers wanted to come back to the plant. They did not fall to their knees to the workers

personal freedom.

order simultaneously–that its invisible hand would punish the indolent and reward the
entrepreneurs."( page 262)
Several organizations were formed to combat the socialistic behavior of the New Deal and the
regulations to come with it such as the American Liberty League and the American Conservative

system is the only way America can succeed in the future. In addition, they convinced workers that

News On Foreign News And Its Impact On Society 's View On...
Thinking of a question related to news was difficult because I am a journalism major and news is a
hot topic within my major. "News" is a very broad statement and can mean many different things. It
also brings all kinds of questions to mind. Originally I went with a broad question that later turned
into a very specific topic making the research much easier. My first question was, "How does news
based in the United States effect societies views on other countries? How does foreign news affect
their societies' view on the United States?" By trying to find simple research on this through the MU
Library, I was quick to find that in order to write a successful research paper it is vital to have a
more specific question to get the answers you want. I was not finding specific research that included
specific information on foreign news and its societal affects.
After some struggles, one article popped out to me about news on foreign countries and their
economy so I decided to look at how the positive and negative news written about a foreign country
later effects that economy. My question then became, "How does an article written in a specific
country affect the economy of a foreign nation?" For example, if a news program based in the
United States were to write an article about China, how would that article truly affect the economy
of China. It has been seen that news can change the perspective of the way people see the world and
all that goes on among the economic leaders. By

Philosophical Understanding and a New View
Philosophical understanding
Philosophy is the study of legitimacy, existence, and the manner in which things exist. Philosophy
incorporates an immense range of topics and every person, place, thing, and idea has its roots
implanted in it. Everybody has their own beliefs in life whether it's from religion, morals, or in
essence everything in general. Philosophers try to answer the unknown questions in life that
everyone is wanting to examine and have the answers to. I never even thought twice about the world
we live in, I thought that it was just life and that's all to it; we live and we die. Throughout the
semester I have learned many different views of the world by diverse philosophers. Many I agreed
with, many I did not but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new born baby would be able to hear the noise of the people in the hospital room, feel the arms
around him, see the smiling faces, smell and taste the placenta he has been resting in for so long.
The baby without senses would not even know it exists without having senses to understand his
surroundings. Epistemology is how we gain and acquire knowledge. My empiricist epistemological
view point is that nothing in the mind was put there without the help of the senses. Everything we
know is based on learning from different people, or on our own. Rule books are not just zapped into
our heads about how to do things. Every daily task we have in life goes back in time to the first
person who thought of the idea. For example the first person to create a car, they would not have
created it if they could not see, walk or talk. The person who created the first car would not know
the long hours it takes to walk somewhere far away because they would not be able to feel the pain
of soreness the day after. They would have never been able to experiment ways to create machinery
that would make everyone's lives easier someday. I'm sure he did not get it right the first time, but he
learned through experience. I believe we learn something new every day through our senses, and we
will continue to learn things through our senses. I cannot think of anything that

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Worldview Analysis
Worldview created in the novel One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest The story One Flew over the
Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey describes a 1950's Oregon mental hospital that is administered by a
cruel and abusive nurse named Miss. Ratched was inspired by Kesey's own experience observing
patients in a mental hospital. The 1950's were a time of increasing social change and development
culminating in movements such as the civil rights and sexual revolution movements of the 60's. The
novel ties sexual liberation to personal freedoms and shows that being able to manage one's
behavior and choices is a sign of independence. In One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest Ken Kesey
persuades us to share the same worldview through use of language and perspective, showing us the
importance of freedom and the impact of society on what freedoms we allow ourselves to have. The
use of perspective in showing Kesey's worldview is prominent in the descriptions of conflicts
between McMurphy and the other patients. The large differences between McMurphy's view on
behavioral freedoms vs the rigid structure are seen on page 54 when McMurphy gets into an
argument with another patient about the suppression of the men's speech by Nurse Ratched.
McMurphy states that Nurse Ratched is a "ball cutter" and that she is trying to get the men to fight
each other and place themselves in her control, the other man, Harding asserts that he is wrong and
that Nurse Ratched is an "angel of mercy". However, on page 56 Harding

Drake 's New Album Called Views
Drake 's new album called "Views" extremely caught my attention. This album had numerous
exceptional songs that I could easily relate to. I connected to this album better than his other albums
that were produced because this album had more diversity. Views were the fourth studio album by
Drake and were also supported by five billboard singles: "Hotline Bling", "One Dance", "Pop
Style", "Controlla" and "Too Good", which are some my favorite tracks from this album. I
absolutely love this album because it shows the struggles that Drake has faced emotionally and it
gives us the ability to connect to it. First off, this album was exceptional because it was different
from any other album I have heard. I especially like the way drake articulated this album and he is
actually one of my favorite artists. He is one of my favorite artists because when Drake raps or
sings, he shows everyone basically how he is feeling inside and he has a deeper meaning to it than
just words. For instance, people can relate to what he is saying because they can put themselves in
his shoes, or they are going through what he is singing about, which is why it makes it easier for his
album to be liked. For this reason, this makes him a different rapper, because instead of rapping or
singing about what the usual rappers rap about such as getting money, partying, and getting girls, he
actually expresses his real emotions instead of covering them up and acting as if he doesn 't care.
Additionally, he doesn 't

Literacy And Ethnographic Research
Since the 1980s, Scholars have continued to argue that there is more to 'LITERACY' than just the
ability to read and write they pushed that there is also a cultural and social approach to literacy. The
most prevalent understanding of literacy to all is that, it is a set of tangible skills of reading and
writing that are independent of the context in which they are acquired and the background of the
person who acquires them. This essay explains in detail the critique of the Traditional view of
literacy by Scholars, the merits and downfalls of redefining the traditional view of literacy and why
LITERACY is indeed more than just the ability to read and write. Scholars argued that the ways in
which literacy is practiced vary by social and cultural context (Barton, 1994). Ethnographic research
into literacy practices in particular settings was particularly instrumental in the development of this
approach, typically known as 'New Literacy Studies' (NLS) (Gee, 1999; Heath, 1993; Street, 1998).
Rather than see literacy as a technical skill independent of context, the NLS approach argues it is a
social practice, embedded in social settings and, further, that even a presumably 'objective' skill such
as numeracy can be socially situated.

put in a given culture. Street also saw literacy as a broader cultural conception of particular ways of

A New View Of Reality : The Universe As A Conscious Computer
According to Gregg Braden, there is an energy everything is made of and it is named quantum
energy. He says that under certain conditions human consciousness influences this energy, as we
aren't simple watchers, and that our expectations and beliefs about what we watch change our
feelings and thoughts about it and we become a part of it.
As everything we experience is linked to what we believe, the author believes that shifting the way
we use belief can change our lives. He says that our "belief waves" shape the quantum that
everything is made from. "It makes us part of all that we see and experience, with the power to solve
problems and find solutions. Through the power of human belief, we are given the ability to bring

In 1944, Max Planck said that there is a "matrix" of energy that provides the blueprint for our
physical world. Some simply call it the "field", others the "mind of God". This is the missing link
that bridges our spiritual experiences of belief, imagination, and prayer with the miracles that we see
in the world around us.
Thinking about the Universe as a consciousness computer and how the right atoms bump into the
right other atoms, we conclude that we are the product of energy, movement, and matter touching
matter, says Gregg Braden. He also declares that, as in a computer program, nature uses a few
simple, self–similar, and repeating patterns – fractals – to build atoms into the familiar patterns of
everything, from elements and molecules to rocks, trees, and us.
According to his theory, when we think of the Universe as a computer, consciousness itself becomes
the operating system. And to transform reality, we must alter the programs themselves, what we call
"beliefs". Belief becomes the software. He says that the first step in awakening the force of belief in
our lives is to understand precisely what it is and how it works.
PROGRAMMING THE UNIVERSE: THE SCIENCE OF BELIEF

Analysis Of A Room With A View

depicts the struggle between societal expectations and independence. This book takes place in two
different settings, it opens in Italy where Lucy Honeychurch and her cousin Charlotte Bartlett are
vacationing. Lucy is a talented Pianist whose passion can be observed by simply watching her play.
Lucy is originally from Windy Corner, England where her family owns much real estate. The
Honeychurch's are rather wealthy, and enjoy the luxuries of upper class lifestyle. Charlotte Bartlett
is Lucy's older, poorer cousin. She has never married, and has very old fashioned views for life and
people. For Lucy Italy is a chance to gain independence from her boring life in England. Lucy is a
product of Upper Class societal constrictions, and as a woman coming to age she wants to free
herself from societal expectations. This feeling is expanded upon when she meets George Emerson.
George is a quiet, yet thoughtful person. He is melancholy, and struggles to find meaning in daily
life. His father, Mr. Emerson, is a kind, yet misunderstood man. He is seen as rude and loud;
however, has a great passion for art and beauty. Lucy's first encounter with the Emerson's is at the
Bertolini pension where her and her cousin are staying. Charlotte, at dinner, complains about the
poor view she has in her room. "'The Signora had no business to do it... she promised us south

Charles Dickens And Alexander Mackay's Views On New York City
In the early 19th Century, authors Charles Dickens and Alexander Mackay traveled to New York
City to learn about the people and their growing infrastructure. Through Mackay's writing, he told
us about what made Americans and residents proud to be apart of New York City. Opposite to
Mackay, Dickens wrote about the negatives of New York City and the areas that had less attention.
His work was very critical of New York City, including the comparison to other cities such as
Boston. Both Mackay and Dickens focused mostly on the "everyday" American who travels down
Broadway and Wall Street.
Dickens views on New York was originally created by comparing it to Boston. Even though there
were many similar characteristics, New York was a "less polished city". One of his observations was
that of the bricks used. He noticed New York had not quite so red bricks and stone that was not quite
so white. On the other hand, Mackay's first impression of New York came after seeing numerous
steamboats in the area. He mentions a story of how excited the people were to partake in
celebrations like the Fourth of July and how the scenery was very patriotic. Overall, he seemed to be
very impressed with New York, unlike Dickens.
Both Dickens and Mackay wrote about New Yorker's lives before the Civil War. Dickens, for
instance, told a more dark story about New York City. He provided information on the prisons and
the poor areas of the city. During this time, many families struggled including immigrants

Understanding American Worldview Summary
Article Summary: Understanding American Worldview
In the article of "Understanding American Worldview," written by J. La Vella Ingram, discusses
about the different types of views and ideologies that are incorporated in America, which could
potentially vary from another culture. For instance, some cultures base their lifestyle on the future
by remaining productive in the present, instead of focusing on the past. Or, some cultures believe
that we should have mastery over nature, and not the other way around, so we may keep advancing
in certain fields. Likewise, depending on what type of culture we are discussing about, some
cultures believe in the notion that humans have the tendency to do the right thing, with little

In America, human nature is perceived as good or bad at given times, because citizens are
encouraged to keep on furthering themselves as individuals, building the foundation for our society.
For example, Americans who make the right decisions are more likely to be successful in their
career, instead of those who fall victim to their impulses, leading them to the wrong path. This
shows that one side requires little to none constraints, while the other side needs to be monitored for
some time, until they start making the right calls. However, in other cultures, some believe that
human nature is considered as bad, needing to be corrected and monitored as much as one can. This
is clearly seen when governments observe their citizens daily, ensuring they remain on track, if not,
then they could pass new regulations to help correct their citizen's behavior. Depending what culture

Lucy In A Room With A View
In A Room with a View by E. M. Forster, the restrictive and intricate social classes of English
society serve as an obstacle for Lucy to overcome in her search for fulfillment. Rather than being a
vehicle by which she can advance and gain her independence, the distinctions between the upper
and lower crusts of English society work against Lucy and undermine her development into an
independent and satisfied individual. As Ms. Honeychurch grows throughout the novel, she slowly
begins to push against social expectation, doing radical things such as traveling solo in Italy (where,
significantly, she encounters the less–rigid Emersons) and breaking off her engagement with Cecil.
These instances pit Lucy directly against the might of English cultural ... Show more content on

essayist) on the evolution of England from feudalism to renaissance–era values. As with Lucy,
England's modern lifestyle was greatly influenced by Italian values of freedom and pursuit of basic
desires such as love, regardless of the cost. And like Lucy, England struggled to break free of the
oppressive weight of its own social hierarchy. But Lucy is not only a placeholder for great countries
and races of people– she additionally mimics the journey each person must make from childhood
immaturity to adult independence. Forster demonstrates in this 172–page extended allegorical essay
that codified oppression as sanctioned by traditional culture will ultimately collapse when set
against a determined individual, and via Lucy Honeychurch Emerson imparts a strong warning
against blind conformity at the expense of

Essay on A Room With A View by Edward Morgan Forster
The Subtle Heroine
A Room with a View, by Edward Morgan Forster, presents the story of Lucy Honeychurch, a young
woman belonging to English "high society.'; Foster places this young maiden in a state of conflict
between the snobbery of her class, the "suitable and traditional'; views and advice offered by various
family members and friends, and her true heart's desire. This conflict "forces Lucy Honeychurch to
choose between convention and passion (Bantam Intro–back cover),'; and throws her into a state of
internal struggle, as she must sift through the elements of her "social conditioning'; and discern them
from her true emotions and desires. Foster develops and utilizes Lucy's internal struggle as a means
of transforming her from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, Foster brilliantly introduces the character of Cecil Vyse, a "medieval'; and high standing
Englishman who, while is an acceptable suitor, really only sees Lucy as another pretty possession by
his side. Cecil's most important function ironically enough, is to serve as a "mirror'; for Lucy. For by
seeing his snobbish and downright crude mannerisms, Lucy receives a likely image of what she
herself could become if she were to marry Cecil for convention and not for passion. Becoming
disgusted with Cecil's behavior, she breaks off her engagement with him, yet still cannot distinguish
whether she is doing it because of his crude and snobbish nature or because of her love for George,
which she has still yet to admit.
Finally, in a heated, tearful, and heart–warming debate, Mr. Emerson (George's father) gives Lucy
the last ounce of strength that she needs to complete her transformation from a petty young woman
to a subtle heroine. Mr. Emerson sees right through her false excuses for breaking off with Cecil and
forces her to realize her genuine feelings of love for George. Lucy succumbs to her passion and
overcomes the confining condition of her social class. She tells her family and friends of her love for
George Emerson, refusing to hold on to her "distinguished and proper'; behavior, giving into her true
desire, and transforming from a petty young woman to a subtle heroine.

Biblical Worldview Research Paper
A biblical worldview has many characteristics. It mainly differs from the other worldviews in its
view of a creator and what happens to us when we die. According to Romans 1:20 since the creation
of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made
even His eternal power and Godhead. This worldview centers on a loving protecting creator who is
here to guide us in our daily lives. God showed himself to us through his own written word.
Prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the
Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:21) this scripture shows us that the bible writers wrote not their own words
but those of God.
Most major worldviews say that it is impossible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a similar worldview as existentialism because it is based in evolution also. It trusts science to
explain and investigate things. It doesn't believe in a creator as a maker of the universe. It does not
believe in a spirit realm. According to naturalism we are animals who have developed a higher level
of reason self consciousness and our own conscious. They believed we have not tapped our full
potential. Also they derive meaning form developing. They think that we can always improve. That's
why science is useful to them. The hope for the future is bleak also. When you die according this
worldview your personality and soul is forever terminated at death. There will be total extinction.
Naturalism is the understanding that there is a solitary, regular world as appeared by science, and
that we are totally incorporated into it. Naturalism holds that all that we are and do is associated
with whatever is left of the world and gotten from conditions that go before us and encompass us.
Each of us is an unfurling normal process, and each part of that procedure is created, and is a cause
itself. So we are completely brought about animals, and seeing exactly how we are created gives us
power and control, while empowering empathy and modesty. Naturalism demonstrates our full
association with the world and others, it prompts morals of empathy, and it gives us far more
noteworthy control over our circumstances. By

The Errors And Its Effects On The New Way Of View Life
The errors I am most guilty of committing frequently would be, filtering out the positive, unreal
ideal, and labeling. I never know the terminology for these habits until now. When reading the
article, I could picture scenarios when I committed these errors.
I have tendency of labeling everything! When I first moved to America, labeling/grouping items,
people and so on really helped to simplify this new journey. Over the years I am realizing that that 's
a poor way of view life. I tend to label people, places, and etc. with little or no interacting. The last
year there has been a lot in the media about police brutality and unfair treated for African American
and minorities in general. When watching the news, I would make a state like "these police officers
are evil and out of control.", "these officers are all racist" and so on. Stating comments like these are
completely unfair. Putting all officers in the same category is small minded and doesn 't solve the
problem facing us today. On top of that am implanting those false beliefs onto my little brother.
Filtering out the positive was my second one. It doesn 't matter how much I accomplish or do, all I
focus on is what I could of them better. The first week of the semester I had to give a speech in a
communication class. I was really nervous and shy, but the speech went really well until the end. For
some reason I looked and froze, I then started to stutter on some of the words. Although the overall
of the speech went well

A Christian Worldview
Every person on earth has a mental reality, which we call worldview. It is what a person finds in
his/her world and it could be true or not. In other words' it is putting together of all the things we
believe whether they are or not. It could be through education, observation, experience or just
because those we trust also believe. Every decision we make is based on the worldview we have
developed.
A worldview, weather religious or non–religious, has personal insight about reality and meaning,
often termed a "life understanding". We all have worldviews which is our own discernment which
develops because we have sought some understanding of our own significance. The overall
perspective from which one sees and interprets the world could be collection beliefs about life and
the universe held by an individual or group. Human nature:
If we have survived adolescence, we understand the importance of the question "who am I?"
Because we are conscious of our existence, we naturally ask such questions. What does it mean to
be a human being? We form beliefs about whether or not there is a spiritual aspect to our nature.

We make judgments constantly about our preferences, and our approval or disapproval of things.
The word "good" is the most broadly used expression in the English language. All of us have beliefs
about the nature of goodness. Are there any standards of judgment that are true whether the
individual cares to accept them or not? Are there standards for living that apply to everyone, or are
values dependent on individual choice alone? We also form beliefs about the nature of moral
responsibility. When, if ever, are we morally guilty? And finally, we form beliefs in the area of
values that direct the goals we pursue in life. We embody our basic convictions about "the good life"

Tortilla Sun Character Analysis
Many people today have their own ideas and thoughts, these thoughts and ideas produce multiple
points of view. These points of view can clash and lead people to disagree with each other. This is
shown in the fictional passages Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez, and Tortilla Sun by Jennifer
Cervantes. The main character in Confetti Girl disagree with her father on multiple topics. From her
english class, to her misunderstanding her father's main intentions. However, Izzy from Tortilla Sun

herself, but however her mother is leaving so she could be able to finish her studies and research.
Which could of course lead her to better job opportunities for Izzy's mother and a more successful
future for Izzy. Because of Izzy's misunderstanding, there is tension created between the both of
them. This is shown in paragraph 34. Izzy replies with "Opportunity? For me? Or for you?". This
shows that Izzy is unclear of the opportunities they both will receive if her mother goes out to finish
her research. This of course leads to tension created between both of the characters. Another way
this is shown is in paragraph 45. The text shows " I think you're going to like the village." Her voice
became muffled now, like her mouth was pressed right up the against the door," (Paragraph 45).
This part of paragraph 45 show how the tension between the 2 characters lead to them having
conflicts that are draining and saddening. The difference in the point of view from Izzy and her
mother create this tension. This shows that Izzy misunderstands her mother and because of this,
tension is created between the both of them. These misunderstanding leads to both of the characters
not seeing eye to an eye. Which leads to many conflicts throughout both

A World Of Difference In James Sire's The Universe Next Door
A World of Difference (Introduction): In the book The Universe Next Door written by James Sire
begins with a brief explanation of what a Worldview is. As stated in the book by Sire, "The essence
of a worldview lies deep in the inner recesses of the human self. A Worldview involves the mind,
but it is first of all a commitment, a matter of the soul. It is spiritual orientation more than it is a
matter of mind alone" (pg.20, Sire). The author states that it is from the heart that all one's thoughts
and actions proceed. The basis of the introduction of Sire's book is answering the seven basic
questions of worldview, including "what is prime reality– the really real? what is the nature of
external reality, that is, the world around us? what is a human being? what happens to a person after
death? Why is it possible to know anything at all? And finally, how do we know what is right and
wrong?" (pg.22). Also, the author asserts that by being able to answer some or many of the seven
worldview questions that an individual has, then people can form their own worldviews for
themselves. Sire discusses nine different worldviews by answering those seven questions,
explaining them and depicting what each worldview system believes and does not. Thus, Sire closes
the introduction of the book with two questions, "Which is your universe? And Which are the
universes next door?" (pg. 24 Sire). A Universe Charged with The Grandeur of God (Christian
Theism): Sire begins chapter one discussing

360 Degree Photography Affordances and Constraints
Media has changed vastly over the decades. We have different styles of media, different ways to
view media, and so many different options when it comes to creating media. A recent technology
that has started to gain traction is 360–degree photography. This new technology allows people to
view more than traditional 2–D perspective. With this new way of being able to capture a scene
comes many affordances and constraints.
Being able to capture everything around you, then allow another person to experience entirely the

Having devices that allow us to put on a headpiece and be put into another reality is a huge step for
media.
With these devices, unfortunately, come many constraints. The content creator has more options for
what the viewer can see, but at the same time it may not be what they want the viewer to see. In
most forms of media today there is a main point that the viewer is observing. 2–D perspective video
creators are able to change perspectives of how the viewer sees the media, but with 360 degrees the
viewer may not see it in the same way the original creator intended. The viewer may even miss main
points entirely because they were looking around and the main point of a video was behind them.
On top of this the viewer may not even be able to watch the video. Many people report nausea when
watching videos in 360 degrees. If there is not a way to ensure people do not feel sick while
watching the videos, that means that this media will be limited by the number of people who are
able to tolerate it. Being able to create the quality of content that is currently available on 2–D
platforms may be difficult could also be an issue. Movie shoots require a lot of people and
equipment, which is all behind the camera when only shooting one perspective. In a 360–movie you
have to make sure you are capturing the things you want and nothing more. There is most likely

I feel this is the case for many people and is a human condition that can be suppressed if a person
realizes the bias has developed into a negative prejudice. Prejudices are rooted in a person's sense of
justice, which is most likely why I have a prejudice against negative and unkind people. Because I
have such a strong value of kindness I have developed a slight prejudice towards those who do not
share this value though I try my best to not act upon this prejudice. The contrasting aspect of the
prejudices contained in my worldview are my loves. What a person loves is such a broad subject it
can mean anything from a person to a meal to a color. Some of my loves include my family, friends,
food, my cat, myself, and hope that can be found when you least expect it. Each one of these things
are large parts of my life that have influenced my life in a positive way and this positive influence is
most likely why I have come to love them so much. Of course I love other things like books I have
read like: Harry Potter, Les Miserables, and Stephen Hawking's Brief History. Or shows I watch
like: Supernatural, Sherlock, Criminal Minds, and Merlin.
Or even my sweatpants, the color blue, and my soccer cleats.
But all of these things have a lesser impact on my life even though I love them. In this way a
person's loves shape their core values and yet are also shaped by those values. Based on your love

Christian Worldview Chapter 1 Summary
Chapter one discusses what a worldview is and more specifically a Christian worldview. A Christian
worldview involves believing in God and that he created the universe which has laws. It also
includes finding the ultimate truth in the Bible. God has written his truth in the Bible for us to read
about. Not only does the Bible tell us truth, it also shows us what ethics we should have. The
character of God shows the moral laws we should believing. Lastly, the Christian worldview states
that God created humans in his image, but due to sin it has been temporarily ruined. Since Jesus died
on the cross, though, humans can be reconciled to God again. Although, this basic break down of a
Christian worldview is helpful, it does not give all the answers. ... Show more content on

This is another controversial topic that many people have different ideas about. Spontaneous
generation was believed to be the origin of life, but Louis Pasteur proved that theory to be wrong
with his experiments of microbes. During this time Darwin proposed his theory of evolution. Many
people were convinced by this theory and since spontaneous generation was disproved the only
choice that was left was that God created life which then evolved. Wright goes on to discuss the
properties, from astronomer Hugh Ross, that had to be just perfect for life to be attainable on Earth.
There are too many stipulations for life that would just randomly form. One big theory for how life
came about is chemical evolution. There is not sufficient data to prove this

Christian Worldview Research Paper
A Christian worldview is defined as a point of view that is seen in a Christian perspective. We see
life in the view of Christianity and live a Christ–like life with Jesus at the center of it. In the lecture
notes, we described a Christian worldview as, "a body of assumption that deals with the nature of
reality, the organization of the universe, the ends and purpose of human life, values, norms, and
differentiation between good and evil, right and wrong" (Casarez). It helps, Christians, understand
the rights and wrongs of the world we live in, and allows us to have a path that should be walked as

There has been talks about new media and how they need to portray both sides of the stories because
most media outlets portray their side of things to make it look like they are right in the sense of
religious and secular people. Most people accept the theory of evolution while the Bible denies any
sense of evolution. Evolutionist believe that forms of life was created through the process of natural
selection, while Christians believe that life was formed through God. In the book, Keller lists
different models that people believe and partake in including: conflict model, independence model,
and central model. People who think the conflict model is true, believe that Genesis chapter 1
teaches that God created all forms of life within twenty–four hours thousands of years ago.
Independent model says that God was the main creator in the beginning world and after that, natural
causes took over which created earth. Lastly, the central model says that God created some life and
then directed natural selection to develop the more complex of life. Keller says, "his miracles are not
just proof that he has power but also wonderful foretastes of what he is going to do with that power.
Jesus's miracles are not just a challenge to our minds, but a promise to our hearts, that the world we
want is coming" (Keller, 99). I believe in the Bible and that God created the world within His own
hands. I believe in the Bible and the way that everything happened. Through this scripture, it has
been said that heavens and earth were created exactly the way God intended it to be, and it was not

My View Of A New House Sat
Max
My heart thundered under my breast. I was sure my parents could hear me, asleep in their beds
inside the two story, gray–siding clad house on Sunnyvale Court.
Rain puddled at my feet, soaking the dirt of a thousand walks into my off–brand tennis shoes. I
usually enjoyed the rain. I liked the feel of walking barefoot in puddles in the grass and the smell of
rain mixed with pine trees. Tonight, the air was cool and the rain was crisp against my skin for an
early August in South Carolina. I would be out all night, though, so this was completely bad timing.
With my toes pointed out to the street, I stood at the edge of the long driveway. A cool wind split
through my dark poncho. I wanted to shiver, but I steeled myself and ignored the cold.
This is it, I told myself. If you're going to leave, you need to do it now.
A new house sat half–finished around the bend of Sunnyvale. I explored it yesterday while on a
walk and discovered the back door was unlocked.
My hand gripped the straps of my overloaded backpack. One night, I told myself. One night where
I'm not sleeping under the same roof as my parents. I'm not going to die like my mother seems to
think would happen if I did. I knew that normal people, everyone else in the world, they weren't all
murdered and raped the moment they went outside.
Thoughts of my bedroom in the house behind me flooded my mind; the soft green comforter, the

A worldview is how others look at the world from your own point of view. When looking at the
worldview you can also use a lens to see things. Worldview can affect the way you look at thing in
your own eyes. There are several types of worldviews such as theism, naturalism, and pantheism.
People that has the religion of theism believe that there is a god. People that has a naturalism

god is everything in their life. There are many ways the worldview becomes biblical. There are

of god is affected by doctrine in sense that if god exist it is always a higher person to be accountable

documentation to provide to new employees to reduce the time required to understand the data flow.
New tables and fields to support new application functionality or enhancements are requested by
developers and added to the oracle databases. Duplicate fields are created for the same data element
in the database as a result of developers working on similar subject areas. A new field is created
because there is no central repository documenting existing data elements. The same data element
exists in duplicate fields and updated by multiple applications. Materialized views created from one
database to another include logic to modify data due to an application requirement. Developers must
review the code in the views due to the lack of documentation in a central repository. In some cases,
a new materialized view is created for the same data set. A major challenge in loading the new data

country with different worldview and culture, known as academic; they typically have common
issue in communicating and studying with the other people, who have academic worldviews. As a

could not see the world clearly because everyone has different ways of seeing the world, due to the

Assess Functionalsu and New Right View of the Family
Assess functionalist and the New Right views on the family
Functionalists believe that the family have specific or traditional functions within the family. One
function of the family would be reproduction or having children as this is imperative for the world
as they will be the future workforce. For example family businesses will need to pass down the
factories/shops to the next generation in the family for the continuing of the ancestors business.
Other functions include economic maintenance this is where the family provides necessities for all
the family members for example shelter, food and clothing. Another is that the family helps teach
children how to socialise with others and also educate them with the correct norms. An ... Show

Halsey and Dennis who agrees with what Murray argues saying that single parenthood and absent
fathers is one of the key issues with the decrease in nuclear family lives. Due to the lack of jobs and
rise in unemployment men are starting to struggle to maintain their title of bread winners and the
industries are changing from heavy workloads so women are more likely to find a job in modern
times. As a result men may be reject by the women as they can't financially depend on them so
would rather be given benefits than struggle to keep a roof over them and their children's heads.
Halsey debates that being in a one parent family with the factors of unemployment and poverty
being high could inevitably lead to crime and vandalism by the younger members of the family.
Against a nuclear family with a stable income and stable household would again lead to any crimes
and vandalism by the offspring in the family.
Abbott and Wallace's critically judge the new right about how women are being exploited in the
families and how a lot of frustration and unhappiness is able to be experienced by living in this
environment. The new right also disagrees to acknowledge the violence that can be cause in a
nuclear family life and the abuse a family can actually suffer from being forced to stay and live with
them as it isn't socially acceptable to be a one parent family. Some of the ideas that Abbott and
Wallace criticised are that the new right are opposed to

Personal Cultural Reflection &Amp; Philosophy Paper – Michael

  • 1. Personal Cultural Reflection & Philosophy Paper – Michael Personal Cultural Reflection & Philosophy Paper – Michael Travis i. Introduction: ii. Exploration: I would describe myself as someone with a deep understanding of self, someone who can recognize and yield meaning from all of the life's experiences, both the good and the bad. Viktor Frankl said, "if there is a meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering." From my experiences of personal and family tragedies, I know that suffering is part of life and is unavoidable, it is as certain as death and completes our journey here on earth; however, we should not let this suffering go to waste but let it contribute to a deeper meaning to our lives. Through this process my life has been enriched, it has enabled me to decipher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having experienced firsthand multiculturalism and diversity know I will be empathic to those who feel that do not fit in or belong. My interpretation of counseling from my limited experiences would use the past to establish foundations, discover where personal or culture beliefs. I believe our past does not determine our future but can predict where we are headed if we do not allow change to happen or correct our course. Traumatic ordeals from our past need to be given attention for change and growth to occur, but, must not be dwelt on. I believe people are inherently good or come from goodness. iii. • 3. Hip Hop : A Whole New View Daniel Thomsen English Professor O'Shaughnessy May 14, 2015 Hip Hop: A Whole New View There are a lot of trends in today's generation that are new and have never been seen before. Social media is a huge one. However, there is a specific aspect of our generation that started from the generation before us. This is a huge part of the culture of young adults today and means a lot to many teens. That part of the culture is music. Music has this weird way of bringing together people from all walks of life. Music sensation, Rihanna, has her own song titled "Please Don't Stop the Music", which talks about how music gets people grooving. Within the music category, the focus will be hip hop and the culture of hip hop. Many people believe that hip ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, it is found that eighty percent of the rap music that is currently on the top ten lists around the world contains violence. They glorify the acts of beating up another person, or even worse shooting them. Looking like someone who just got released from prison in their eyes is a good thing. However, what these people do not realize, is that this is the best way these artists know how to express themselves. "Although rap music and hip hop are often used interchangeably, rap is only one of (at least) four elements of hip hop" (Moore, 2008). The other three components of hip hop culture are: DJ–ing, breakdancing, and visual/graffiti art, however the aspect most people focus on is the musical aspect. It really is just like any other form of music, where an artist uses that style of music to express themselves. The common notion is that hip–hop music also seems to glorify is that what matters most when looking for a good woman is what her body looks like. This is why there are so many teenagers who have eating disorders or other emotional problems. But today, there are many artists of this genre that care about what women are like deeper than just a physical attraction. For example, Tupac Shakur's song "Keep Ya Head Up" is a song telling women how important they are to our society, telling men to treat women with respect, and most importantly, keep your head up. • 5. Ideology And Ideology 1. In this essay I will be discussing the difference between world views and ideologies and I will also elaborate between the South African motto and the different worldviews. I will then explain the influence of this motto for myself as a student–teacher and citizen of South Africa. Knowledge production is a highly political and politicized practice (Morrell, 2014). 2. A worldview is a philosophy of life or concept of the world: 'a Christian world view revolves around the battle of good and evil' (University, 1884). A person's worldview can be affected by many factors in life – it can be affected by their inherited characteristics, by their life situations and their background experiences, by their values in life, by their attitudes and lastly their habits that they developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. What is the difference between 'world view' and 'ideology'? These two terms have a slightly difference nuances in their meaning and in their connotation. Both these terms have a close meaning. A way to distinguish between the two meanings is to take note that ideology is more proactive. The ideology will dictate what your actions or policies are where a worldview is more of a perspective or an explanation of the way that things are, for example a common worldview is that all humans' life is valuable. 4. Diverse people unite is our South African Motto. We strive to get all the different races to be valued the same and to have the same opportunities. We strive to get racism out of the way so that we can live in peace. In other countries they don't have a problem with racism. One worldview that everyone in South Africa differs about is Christianity. Not all the different cultures have the same beliefs, some belief in other gods and some believe in Jesus Christ. We as South African citizens have to accept the fact that not all people have the same views and then move ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Christian Worldview Book Review Philip G. Ryken's book, Christian Worldview a Student's Guide, gives a basic understanding of what a worldview is and what the Christian worldview presents, along with its importance. According to Ryken, a worldview is "a fundamental perspective on the world that shapes the way we live" (Ryken, 2013, p. 17). It is the structure of our understanding, the way we look at life, the framework of beliefs and convictions, and the meaning of human existence. (pp. 19–20). A worldview has so much culture–shaping influence because it is not merely a private perspective but more communal (p. 21). This is especially true for the Christian worldview because it connects all believers everywhere. Ryken explains that a properly Christian view of the world engages the whole person, the body, heart, mind, and soul, and is directed to the glory of God (p. 28). Ryken presents the Christian worldview in four categories or four distinct stories that are used to explain the human experience. When we apply a Christian worldview we "gain God's perspective on why any particular thing was made in the first place," which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I work in politics and government, which more often than not rejects, not out of choice but out of made up obligation, a Christian worldview. So to choose one area is very difficult. However, I will use the same story of "the fall." Here is the total depravity in full swing. Anything that God may have to say "must" be offensive and is rejected by many. Others may hold a Christian worldview in theory but actions speak more loyalty to human authority than God's supreme power. I see, as Ryken described, sin corrupting hearts so that the affections and pursuits are on unholy desires (p. 66). If my work place was transformed by this story, the effects could be country wide. • 9. Learning New Concepts And Points Of View For my flexibility, it says that I take a highly flexible approach to life and are likely very open to new and changing ideas and circumstances. I agree with this point a lot, because throughout my life so far I have had to change things that I have done last minute to accomplish something else that was going on. Also, it says that I tend to embrace change in school, work and life in general. I agree with this too, because during school I always got excited when I got a new class because it was something different. Lastly, it says that flexibility allows me to be open to learning new concepts and exploring differing points of view. This one is a little harder for me to completely agree to, because yes I am open to new ideas but not all the time when exploring new concepts and points of view. One example is when I was suppose to tutor a girl in my high school and she was having problems finding a time that would work for both of us. I came up with a time during school that we could meet and I told her that she could come up with any day Monday through Friday at the time that we had determined would work best for both of us. My social responsibility is very accurate. It states that I have a strong concern and compassion for society and act act as a champion for making a difference. The other one says that I likely gain deeper connection to the welfare of others and as a result, gain a broad perspective of others struggles. I have always felt that I have had a strong ... It caused such controversy because it was an indirect attack on the Catholic Church with a viewpoint that was not of the 'status quo'. This essay will thoroughly analyse this document. It will analyse the context behind what was happening in 17th century with regards to science and religion. Secondly it will critically explain and analyse the grounds behind why this document actually holds significance. This will make the argument that Galileo wanted to make the distinction between science and religion. He argues that Galileo liked to create controversy . This could set a precedent that Galileo wanted to cause uproar by going so far to the extreme that the nobles and the Church would take a serious look into his findings, when he may have exaggerated certain points. One of Galileo's main issues was the purpose of scripture with regards to interpretation. Galileo makes the argument that Scripture cannot be wrong but it is up to the interpretation of it. For example, he stated, "Though the scripture cannot err, nevertheless some of its interpreters and expositors can sometimes err in various ways" . Furthermore he states that if we were to take the literal meaning of what the scripture states – we would be personifying God by giving him human characteristics of a body and emotions. In essence the literal interpretation would give God the right to make mistakes, which of course would not be accepted by anyone in the church. Galileo did have a basis for his argument on the relation of the interpretation of scripture with regards to science. Copernicus, in his letter to Pope Paul III, stated that there are many differing interpretations within the scientists focused on astronomy. One of the main points he makes is that astronomers cannot agree on how to accurately measure the tropical year . Copernicus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My main goal for this investigation and report was to be able to inform people in our school and those who read our newspaper about the impact of technology, specifically the impact of newly and highly developed items. Ultimately, the New Deal started a new type of conservatism that was strongly against this new way of government. The New Deal allowed Americans to rely on government for things such as Social Security and several other government funded programs. Citizens such as blah were more in favor of a laissez faire type of government where regulation and government assistance is to a minimum. In some cases, government programs are beneficial yet can lead to problems down the road. Many people can learn to abuse the system or rely soley on the government to bail them out of hard times. • 19. News On Foreign News And Its Impact On Society 's View On... Thinking of a question related to news was difficult because I am a journalism major and news is a hot topic within my major. "News" is a very broad statement and can mean many different things. It also brings all kinds of questions to mind. Originally I went with a broad question that later turned into a very specific topic making the research much easier. My first question was, "How does news based in the United States effect societies views on other countries? How does foreign news affect their societies' view on the United States?" By trying to find simple research on this through the MU Library, I was quick to find that in order to write a successful research paper it is vital to have a more specific question to get the answers you want. I was not finding specific research that included specific information on foreign news and its societal affects. After some struggles, one article popped out to me about news on foreign countries and their economy so I decided to look at how the positive and negative news written about a foreign country later effects that economy. My question then became, "How does an article written in a specific country affect the economy of a foreign nation?" For example, if a news program based in the United States were to write an article about China, how would that article truly affect the economy of China. It has been seen that news can change the perspective of the way people see the world and all that goes on among the economic leaders. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Philosophy incorporates an immense range of topics and every person, place, thing, and idea has its roots implanted in it. Everybody has their own beliefs in life whether it's from religion, morals, or in essence everything in general. Philosophers try to answer the unknown questions in life that everyone is wanting to examine and have the answers to. My empiricist epistemological view point is that nothing in the mind was put there without the help of the senses. Everything we know is based on learning from different people, or on our own. Rule books are not just zapped into our heads about how to do things. Every daily task we have in life goes back in time to the first person who thought of the idea. The person who created the first car would not know the long hours it takes to walk somewhere far away because they would not be able to feel the pain of soreness the day after. They would have never been able to experiment ways to create machinery that would make everyone's lives easier someday. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Worldview Analysis Worldview created in the novel One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest The story One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey describes a 1950's Oregon mental hospital that is administered by a cruel and abusive nurse named Miss. Ratched was inspired by Kesey's own experience observing patients in a mental hospital. The 1950's were a time of increasing social change and development culminating in movements such as the civil rights and sexual revolution movements of the 60's. The novel ties sexual liberation to personal freedoms and shows that being able to manage one's behavior and choices is a sign of independence. In One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest Ken Kesey persuades us to share the same worldview through use of language and perspective, showing us the importance of freedom and the impact of society on what freedoms we allow ourselves to have. The use of perspective in showing Kesey's worldview is prominent in the descriptions of conflicts between McMurphy and the other patients. The large differences between McMurphy's view on behavioral freedoms vs the rigid structure are seen on page 54 when McMurphy gets into an argument with another patient about the suppression of the men's speech by Nurse Ratched. McMurphy states that Nurse Ratched is a "ball cutter" and that she is trying to get the men to fight each other and place themselves in her control, the other man, Harding asserts that he is wrong and that Nurse Ratched is an "angel of mercy". I connected to this album better than his other albums that were produced because this album had more diversity. Views were the fourth studio album by Drake and were also supported by five billboard singles: "Hotline Bling", "One Dance", "Pop Style", "Controlla" and "Too Good", which are some my favorite tracks from this album. I absolutely love this album because it shows the struggles that Drake has faced emotionally and it gives us the ability to connect to it. First off, this album was exceptional because it was different from any other album I have heard. I especially like the way drake articulated this album and he is actually one of my favorite artists. He is one of my favorite artists because when Drake raps or sings, he shows everyone basically how he is feeling inside and he has a deeper meaning to it than just words. For instance, people can relate to what he is saying because they can put themselves in his shoes, or they are going through what he is singing about, which is why it makes it easier for his album to be liked. For this reason, this makes him a different rapper, because instead of rapping or singing about what the usual rappers rap about such as getting money, partying, and getting girls, he actually expresses his real emotions instead of covering them up and acting as if he doesn 't care. Literacy And Ethnographic Research Since the 1980s, Scholars have continued to argue that there is more to 'LITERACY' than just the ability to read and write they pushed that there is also a cultural and social approach to literacy. The most prevalent understanding of literacy to all is that, it is a set of tangible skills of reading and writing that are independent of the context in which they are acquired and the background of the person who acquires them. This essay explains in detail the critique of the Traditional view of literacy by Scholars, the merits and downfalls of redefining the traditional view of literacy and why LITERACY is indeed more than just the ability to read and write. Scholars argued that the ways in which literacy is practiced vary by social and cultural context (Barton, 1994). Ethnographic research into literacy practices in particular settings was particularly instrumental in the development of this approach, typically known as 'New Literacy Studies' (NLS) (Gee, 1999; Heath, 1993; Street, 1998). Rather than see literacy as a technical skill independent of context, the NLS approach argues it is a social practice, embedded in social settings and, further, that even a presumably 'objective' skill such as numeracy can be socially situated. He says that under certain conditions human consciousness influences this energy, as we aren't simple watchers, and that our expectations and beliefs about what we watch change our feelings and thoughts about it and we become a part of it. As everything we experience is linked to what we believe, the author believes that shifting the way we use belief can change our lives. In 1944, Max Planck said that there is a "matrix" of energy that provides the blueprint for our physical world. Some simply call it the "field", others the "mind of God". This is the missing link that bridges our spiritual experiences of belief, imagination, and prayer with the miracles that we see in the world around us. Thinking about the Universe as a consciousness computer and how the right atoms bump into the right other atoms, we conclude that we are the product of energy, movement, and matter touching matter, says Gregg Braden. He also declares that, as in a computer program, nature uses a few simple, self–similar, and repeating patterns – fractals – to build atoms into the familiar patterns of everything, from elements and molecules to rocks, trees, and us. According to his theory, when we think of the Universe as a computer, consciousness itself becomes the operating system. And to transform reality, we must alter the programs themselves, what we call "beliefs". Belief becomes the software. He says that the first step in awakening the force of belief in our lives is to understand precisely what it is and how it works. This book takes place in two different settings, it opens in Italy where Lucy Honeychurch and her cousin Charlotte Bartlett are vacationing. Lucy is a talented Pianist whose passion can be observed by simply watching her play. Lucy is originally from Windy Corner, England where her family owns much real estate. The Honeychurch's are rather wealthy, and enjoy the luxuries of upper class lifestyle. Charlotte Bartlett is Lucy's older, poorer cousin. She has never married, and has very old fashioned views for life and people. For Lucy Italy is a chance to gain independence from her boring life in England. Lucy is a product of Upper Class societal constrictions, and as a woman coming to age she wants to free herself from societal expectations. This feeling is expanded upon when she meets George Emerson. George is a quiet, yet thoughtful person. He is melancholy, and struggles to find meaning in daily life. His father, Mr. Emerson, is a kind, yet misunderstood man. He is seen as rude and loud; however, has a great passion for art and beauty. Lucy's first encounter with the Emerson's is at the Bertolini pension where her and her cousin are staying. Charlotte, at dinner, complains about the poor view she has in her room. Charles Dickens And Alexander Mackay's Views On New York City In the early 19th Century, authors Charles Dickens and Alexander Mackay traveled to New York City to learn about the people and their growing infrastructure. Through Mackay's writing, he told us about what made Americans and residents proud to be apart of New York City. Opposite to Mackay, Dickens wrote about the negatives of New York City and the areas that had less attention. His work was very critical of New York City, including the comparison to other cities such as Boston. Both Mackay and Dickens focused mostly on the "everyday" American who travels down Broadway and Wall Street. Dickens views on New York was originally created by comparing it to Boston. Even though there were many similar characteristics, New York was a "less polished city". One of his observations was that of the bricks used. He noticed New York had not quite so red bricks and stone that was not quite so white. On the other hand, Mackay's first impression of New York came after seeing numerous steamboats in the area. He mentions a story of how excited the people were to partake in celebrations like the Fourth of July and how the scenery was very patriotic. Overall, he seemed to be very impressed with New York, unlike Dickens. Both Dickens and Mackay wrote about New Yorker's lives before the Civil War. Dickens, for instance, told a more dark story about New York City. He provided information on the prisons and the poor areas of the city. Or, some cultures believe that we should have mastery over nature, and not the other way around, so we may keep advancing in certain fields. Forster, the restrictive and intricate social classes of English society serve as an obstacle for Lucy to overcome in her search for fulfillment. Rather than being a vehicle by which she can advance and gain her independence, the distinctions between the upper and lower crusts of English society work against Lucy and undermine her development into an independent and satisfied individual. As Ms. Honeychurch grows throughout the novel, she slowly begins to push against social expectation, doing radical things such as traveling solo in Italy (where, significantly, she encounters the less–rigid Emersons) and breaking off her engagement with Cecil. These instances pit Lucy directly against the might of English cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although at times the obstacle in her path was so seemingly insurmountable as to make Lucy despondent, she is able to conquer the challenges of social pressure by pursuing her suppressed desires. As with Lucy, England's modern lifestyle was greatly influenced by Italian values of freedom and pursuit of basic desires such as love, regardless of the cost. And like Lucy, England struggled to break free of the oppressive weight of its own social hierarchy. But Lucy is not only a placeholder for great countries and races of people– she additionally mimics the journey each person must make from childhood immaturity to adult independence. Next, Foster brilliantly introduces the character of Cecil Vyse, a "medieval'; and high standing Englishman who, while is an acceptable suitor, really only sees Lucy as another pretty possession by his side. Cecil's most important function ironically enough, is to serve as a "mirror'; for Lucy. For by seeing his snobbish and downright crude mannerisms, Lucy receives a likely image of what she herself could become if she were to marry Cecil for convention and not for passion. Becoming disgusted with Cecil's behavior, she breaks off her engagement with him, yet still cannot distinguish whether she is doing it because of his crude and snobbish nature or because of her love for George, which she has still yet to admit. Finally, in a heated, tearful, and heart–warming debate, Mr. Emerson (George's father) gives Lucy the last ounce of strength that she needs to complete her transformation from a petty young woman to a subtle heroine. Mr. Emerson sees right through her false excuses for breaking off with Cecil and forces her to realize her genuine feelings of love for George. Lucy succumbs to her passion and overcomes the confining condition of her social class. She tells her family and friends of her love for George Emerson, refusing to hold on to her "distinguished and proper'; behavior, giving into her true desire, and transforming from a petty young woman to a subtle heroine. I never know the terminology for these habits until now. When reading the article, I could picture scenarios when I committed these errors. I have tendency of labeling everything! When I first moved to America, labeling/grouping items, people and so on really helped to simplify this new journey. Over the years I am realizing that that 's a poor way of view life. I tend to label people, places, and etc. with little or no interacting. When watching the news, I would make a state like "these police officers are evil and out of control.", "these officers are all racist" and so on. Stating comments like these are completely unfair. Putting all officers in the same category is small minded and doesn 't solve the problem facing us today. On top of that am implanting those false beliefs onto my little brother. Filtering out the positive was my second one. It doesn 't matter how much I accomplish or do, all I focus on is what I could of them better. The first week of the semester I had to give a speech in a communication class. I was really nervous and shy, but the speech went really well until the end. A World Of Difference In James Sire's The Universe Next Door A World of Difference (Introduction): In the book The Universe Next Door written by James Sire begins with a brief explanation of what a Worldview is. As stated in the book by Sire, "The essence of a worldview lies deep in the inner recesses of the human self. A Worldview involves the mind, but it is first of all a commitment, a matter of the soul. It is spiritual orientation more than it is a matter of mind alone" (pg.20, Sire). The author states that it is from the heart that all one's thoughts and actions proceed. The basis of the introduction of Sire's book is answering the seven basic questions of worldview, including "what is prime reality– the really real? what is the nature of external reality, that is, the world around us? what is a human being? what happens to a person after death? Why is it possible to know anything at all? And finally, how do we know what is right and wrong?" (pg.22). Also, the author asserts that by being able to answer some or many of the seven worldview questions that an individual has, then people can form their own worldviews for themselves. Sire discusses nine different worldviews by answering those seven questions, explaining them and depicting what each worldview system believes and does not. Thus, Sire closes the introduction of the book with two questions, "Which is your universe? And Which are the universes next door?" (pg. 24 Sire). In most forms of media today there is a main point that the viewer is observing. 2–D perspective video creators are able to change perspectives of how the viewer sees the media, but with 360 degrees the viewer may not see it in the same way the original creator intended. The viewer may even miss main points entirely because they were looking around and the main point of a video was behind them. On top of this the viewer may not even be able to watch the video. Many people report nausea when watching videos in 360 degrees. If there is not a way to ensure people do not feel sick while watching the videos, that means that this media will be limited by the number of people who are able to tolerate it. Being able to create the quality of content that is currently available on 2–D platforms may be difficult could also be an issue. Movie shoots require a lot of people and equipment, which is all behind the camera when only shooting one perspective. In a 360–movie you have to make sure you are capturing the things you want and nothing more. There is most likely going to be more work creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Worldviews differ for every individual, shaped by their values, biases, prejudices, loves, commitments, and fears as mine is. Developed through experience worldviews shift, as I expect mine will many times. A large component of your worldviews are the values you hold, something that event affect other things that shape your worldview. Over the past 8 ½ months my world view has changed similarly to our Earth's rotation, we do not feel it but we know it is happening and given time we can see of the stages that occurred. I feel this is the case for many people and is a human condition that can be suppressed if a person realizes the bias has developed into a negative prejudice. Prejudices are rooted in a person's sense of justice, which is most likely why I have a prejudice against negative and unkind people. Because I have such a strong value of kindness I have developed a slight prejudice towards those who do not share this value though I try my best to not act upon this prejudice. The contrasting aspect of the prejudices contained in my worldview are my loves. What a person loves is such a broad subject it can mean anything from a person to a meal to a color. Some of my loves include my family, friends, food, my cat, myself, and hope that can be found when you least expect it. Each one of these things are large parts of my life that have influenced my life in a positive way and this positive influence is most likely why I have come to love them so much. Of course I love other things like books I have read like: Harry Potter, Les Miserables, and Stephen Hawking's Brief History. Or shows I watch like: Supernatural, Sherlock, Criminal Minds, and Merlin. Or even my sweatpants, the color blue, and my soccer cleats. But all of these things have a lesser impact on my life even though I love them. In this way a person's loves shape their core values and yet are also shaped by those values. Based on your love you can begin to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Christian Worldview Chapter 1 Summary Chapter one discusses what a worldview is and more specifically a Christian worldview. A Christian worldview involves believing in God and that he created the universe which has laws. It also includes finding the ultimate truth in the Bible. God has written his truth in the Bible for us to read about. Not only does the Bible tell us truth, it also shows us what ethics we should have. The character of God shows the moral laws we should believing. Lastly, the Christian worldview states that God created humans in his image, but due to sin it has been temporarily ruined. Since Jesus died on the cross, though, humans can be reconciled to God again. Although, this basic break down of a Christian worldview is helpful, it does not give all the answers. ... Spontaneous generation was believed to be the origin of life, but Louis Pasteur proved that theory to be wrong with his experiments of microbes. During this time Darwin proposed his theory of evolution. Many people were convinced by this theory and since spontaneous generation was disproved the only choice that was left was that God created life which then evolved. Wright goes on to discuss the properties, from astronomer Hugh Ross, that had to be just perfect for life to be attainable on Earth. There are too many stipulations for life that would just randomly form. One big theory for how life came about is chemical evolution. There is not sufficient data to prove this ... In the BNW they don't let people get as old as the man from the reservation "That's because we don't allow them to be like that. We preserve them from diseases. We keep their internal secretions artificially balanced at a youthful equilibrium. We don't permit their magnesium–calcium ratio to fall below what it was at thirty. We give them transfusion of young blood. We keep their metabolism permanently stimulated. SO, of course, they don't look like that. • 63. Christian Worldview Research Paper A Christian worldview is defined as a point of view that is seen in a Christian perspective. We see life in the view of Christianity and live a Christ–like life with Jesus at the center of it. In the lecture notes, we described a Christian worldview as, "a body of assumption that deals with the nature of reality, the organization of the universe, the ends and purpose of human life, values, norms, and differentiation between good and evil, right and wrong" (Casarez). It helps, Christians, understand the rights and wrongs of the world we live in, and allows us to have a path that should be walked as Jesus walked his path. There has been talks about new media and how they need to portray both sides of the stories because most media outlets portray their side of things to make it look like they are right in the sense of religious and secular people. Most people accept the theory of evolution while the Bible denies any sense of evolution. Evolutionist believe that forms of life was created through the process of natural selection, while Christians believe that life was formed through God. In the book, Keller lists different models that people believe and partake in including: conflict model, independence model, and central model. People who think the conflict model is true, believe that Genesis chapter 1 teaches that God created all forms of life within twenty–four hours thousands of years ago. Independent model says that God was the main creator in the beginning world and after that, natural causes took over which created earth. Lastly, the central model says that God created some life and then directed natural selection to develop the more complex of life. Keller says, "his miracles are not just proof that he has power but also wonderful foretastes of what he is going to do with that power. Jesus's miracles are not just a challenge to our minds, but a promise to our hearts, that the world we want is coming" (Keller, 99). • 65. My View Of A New House Sat Max My heart thundered under my breast. I was sure my parents could hear me, asleep in their beds inside the two story, gray–siding clad house on Sunnyvale Court. Rain puddled at my feet, soaking the dirt of a thousand walks into my off–brand tennis shoes. I usually enjoyed the rain. I liked the feel of walking barefoot in puddles in the grass and the smell of rain mixed with pine trees. Tonight, the air was cool and the rain was crisp against my skin for an early August in South Carolina. I would be out all night, though, so this was completely bad timing. With my toes pointed out to the street, I stood at the edge of the long driveway. A cool wind split through my dark poncho. I wanted to shiver, but I steeled myself and ignored the cold. This is it, I told myself. If you're going to leave, you need to do it now. A new house sat half–finished around the bend of Sunnyvale. I explored it yesterday while on a walk and discovered the back door was unlocked. My hand gripped the straps of my overloaded backpack. One night, I told myself. One night where I'm not sleeping under the same roof as my parents. I'm not going to die like my mother seems to think would happen if I did. I knew that normal people, everyone else in the world, they weren't all murdered and raped the moment they went outside. Thoughts of my bedroom in the house behind me flooded my mind; the soft green comforter, the mauve pink carpet, the warmth of the cotton sheets, a quiet symphony playing from the ... How the jobs work is known by some of the senior developers. There is minimal documentation to provide to new employees to reduce the time required to understand the data flow. New tables and fields to support new application functionality or enhancements are requested by developers and added to the oracle databases. Duplicate fields are created for the same data element in the database as a result of developers working on similar subject areas. A new field is created because there is no central repository documenting existing data elements. The same data element exists in duplicate fields and updated by multiple applications. Materialized views created from one database to another include logic to modify data due to an application requirement. Developers must review the code in the views due to the lack of documentation in a central repository. In some cases, a new materialized view is created for the same data set. She explains that the way people see the world do not mean that we can see the other way of the world. As a result, we often could not see the world clearly because everyone has different ways of seeing the world, due to the cross–cultural interaction and changes (Thiele, 2010). She also describes her experiences in teaching some Japanese students who faced the cross–cultural differences studying at university. One function of the family would be reproduction or having children as this is imperative for the world as they will be the future workforce. For example family businesses will need to pass down the factories/shops to the next generation in the family for the continuing of the ancestors business. Other functions include economic maintenance this is where the family provides necessities for all the family members for example shelter, food and clothing. Due to the lack of jobs and rise in unemployment men are starting to struggle to maintain their title of bread winners and the industries are changing from heavy workloads so women are more likely to find a job in modern times. As a result men may be reject by the women as they can't financially depend on them so would rather be given benefits than struggle to keep a roof over them and their children's heads. Halsey debates that being in a one parent family with the factors of unemployment and poverty being high could inevitably lead to crime and vandalism by the younger members of the family. Against a nuclear family with a stable income and stable household would again lead to any crimes and vandalism by the offspring in the family.
