1. WHAT HAVE YOU
LEARNED FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
EVALUATION QUESTION 3 Sofia Howarth
2. TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience of my products are massively influence when to comes to the success and
popularity of my work as without their support and recombination of my products, this would result in
no sales therefore no purpose or awareness for my products. Whilst working on my research and
planning, the development and changes of my own products I depended on my audience and their
feedback in order to make further improvements with their guidance and contributions. Their
comments and feedback has been reflected into my work in order to try and improve my initial product
and target more towards my audience. All feedback was recorded either verbally or written, although
feedback was optional I found it very helpful in order to shape my products to suit my audience. I asked
for constructive criticism from my peers and teachers as well as a few positives in which they like about
my products and don’t need any improvements. Referring audience feedback allowed my
understanding and knowledge to grow, therefore I have been able to gain a greater idea of the interests
of my target audience and what space there is in the magazine industry for my products.
3. STARTING AUDIENCE RESEARCH
My first target audience research task started when I explored into making initial ideas of who
I wanted to target my products at and which stereotypical group they would fit into,
depending on their general interests and hobbies etc. This information and research was first
presented in my Magazine pitch which I clearly indicated my target audience including their
age, gender and common interests. In addition to my target audience my pitch also included
potential ideas on pricing, colour scheme and plan for my products. Although these were
very brief ideas that task allowed me to start creating a plan of how I wanted my products to
look and how I would personally aim at my audience. In addition to this I presented my
magazine pitch to my peers and teacher in my A2 media class all of which apart from my
teacher were within my target audience group. After presenting my pitch I asked for all
viewers to write a feedback sheet and comment on what they thought I did well and how
they think I should improve certain initial ideas to benefit my products. This task allowed me
to gather some more insight into what my target audience are looking or in my products.
4. RESEARCH TASKS
Then I started to design my own target audience research
tasks to give me a further insight to how I should be
approaching certain ideas. After completing a group
activity of watching a interview, I used my notes taken
during the video and created a storyboard of the
interview and what was happening in the shot. After this I
went on to interview a 19 year old female Sunderland
university student who fits within my target audience age
range, gender and region location. I believe this task was
very beneficial as it allowed for me to hear options on my
products and what my guests likes as well as what they
would improve.
5. METHODS
In addition to this another example relevant to this was my research into my Primary and
Secondary Target Audience, This task was very beneficial to me as I was able to gain a greater
understanding to what characteristics my audience shared, looking at both my primary and
secondary audience. However mainly my primary audience as my secondary is seen as the less
important audience. Therefore I put more focus on identify the interests of my
primary audience and what they could possibly like.
6. METHODS
Another method in which revealed further information into my audience was my surveys I
created in my research and planning activity. Creating my own surveys from scratch granted me
with the ability of ask very personal and targeted questions to gather elaborate and qualitative
information which helped me to develop to my products to my target audiences request. The
results from my surveys allowed me to find out my audience's major influences, one being social
media. Social media is a massive platform used by the majority of my target audience allowing
people to interact, post and share their feelings and views to a
greater audience which may inspire others or be relevant to them etc. This allowed me to aim
own products specifically at my audience's interests whether this was done throughout the text I
used or the layout etc.
7. AUDIENCE AND READER PROFILES
Here is my readers profile I have created using Microsoft Powerpoint as I
feel extremely confident with the programme therefore I knew no or very little
problems would occur that I couldn't fix. I screenshot my work into a picture
form so It was easily to upload and view on my blog. In my reader profiles I
have included essential information on my target audience such facts on the
population of my target, such as the gender of my audience
and further information on their lifestyle and interest. This task allowed me to
become even more familiar with the interests of my audience making it easier
for me to link my products back to the initial interest of my audience as I have
greater understand.
8. AUDIENCE AND READER PROFILES 2
Here I have created a prezi slideshow which includes the profiles of some potential readers of
my regional product. I have explored what they find appealing and their age groups and
location etc allowing me to learn the interests of a similar age group of my own target
audience. This has helped me develop my initial ideas to target my audience
more specifically. In addition I have learned that the age group generally like free/cheap
things for example student discount within Music, Film and Fashion.
