  1. 1. The pressure group I wanted you to learn about is shelter they try to house homeless people all over Britain. SHELTER
  2. 2. WHAT THEY DO <ul><li>As a part of there work to tackle homelessness, Shelter runs many different projects across Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. These projects are developed to address local needs. </li></ul>
  3. 3. WHAT ARE THESE PROJECTS Family advice projects were set up in December 1998 to prevent families becoming homeless. TOYS AT THE SOUTH LANRIKSHIRE FAMILY PROJECT

VOLUNTEERS <ul><li>A key part of this service is the contribution made by trained volunteers, who can assist families by helping decorate a new tenancy, access services in a new area and build confidence by befriending families who are in transition. </li></ul>Volunteer in a Shelter shop Volunteer at a Shelter project
  5. 5. FUNDING <ul><li>The project was initially funded through the National Lottery Charities Board. Now through funding from Glasgow, Edinburgh and South Lanarkshire Councils, along with the Community Fund and BBC Children in Need amongst others, They have been able to extend the much-needed service for homeless families in Scotland. </li></ul>

CAMPAIGNING <ul><li>Last year Shelter campaigned heavily for more money for housing; in September with the help of the people of Scotland us collect 30,000 postcards from the public to deliver to Finance Secretary John Swinney asking him to commit enough money to build 30,000 new affordable homes for rent. They called the project its time to get a move in. </li></ul>
