"The hands that rocks the cradle rules the world”. Write about
particular issue concerning the position of women in today's society.

The woman, later a mother after marriage plays an important role in
ensuring the continuity of the human race on earth. "The hand that rocks
the cradle rules the world" is a line of a poem written by the American
poet, William Ross Wallace, summarizing in nine words a dignified
thought which cannot be so forcefully expressed even by a volume of
many pages.
Women constitute half of the population of the world. Hence,
they deserve half of total empowerment in all fields- political, social,
economic, judicial etc. But the reality is that only a small percentage of
women have a just share in all these fields as even in business, trade,
services etc. It is true that at higher levels, women are there in all
fields such as politics, educational institutes ( as students, teachers,
etc.), in hospitals and dispensaries (as doctor, nurses, etc.), offices (as
clerks, receptionists, officers, managers, administrators, etc), singers,
dancers, painters, architects, lawyers, drivers and even pilots, police,
army personal and officers. But the number is limited. Some women have
proved good business enterpreners. Even their number is limited.
On the other hand, female foeticide, dowry deaths and domestic
abuse provide a macabre background of primitive barbarism. However
well a democracy may work, recurring social injustice and violence
against women continue to centre on poverty. ‘Feminisation of poverty’ is
now an undeniable reality of India.
Violence and abuse affect women from all kind of backgrounds
every day. Sometimes, women are attacked by strangers, but most often
they are hurt by people who are close to them. Nowadays we daily heard
about rape cases, burning bride for dowry, punishing a mother for giving
birth to baby girl. Is this right? Is this is their status? From everywhere
women are humiliated. Eve teasing, rapes, dowry deaths, female foeticide
are so common violence against women. Violence and abuse can cause
terrible physical and emotional pain.
The status of women in not very much improved or why this happens to
girls only and only because
1. India is male dominated society: - Boys are preferred to daughter. Men
are superior to women. Man governs unquestioned. The son is always
honoured. But why? He will bring us rich dowry. He will give shelter to his
aged parents. He will carry on his father's generation.
2. Daughters are curse: - parents have to arrange large dowry for them.
They are raped and humiliated in public.
I think if we change our thinking towards girls then the status of girls
and women in our society will definitely improve.
Everyone should respect them, they are also human beings. If every male
start thinking that women are not only for giving birth to babies or are
not only for keeping house or are not only for providing satisfaction to
their lust. They are like us, who have equal rights as we have. They also
have their self respect. They are most beautiful creatures created by
God.
A man and woman are like two wheels of a cart. The cart can move
fast and safely too, when both of them pull it in the same direction and
with equal strength. Hence no developing country or society can effort to
ignore the role of women, if they have to progress.
