There is no doubt that
since dawn of the history
women had been denied
their due. They have
always been treated as
inferior to men. In India
their
status has been particularly low. During the post-Vedic era,
they were
denied the right to participate in any religious ceremonies
and now the
only change is that now-a-days they are not accepted to be
of equal status
as men. During the course of the centuries her slavery and
further
degradation increased by many social evils like Sati Pratha,
Parda pratha,
Child marriage, Polygamy,
dowry system, and even the
laws were unjust to
her as she has no right of
inheritance and no right of
remarriage.
They became more or less, a
domestic servant whose duty is to perform household
chores and rear her children and husband.
Now rocking the cradle is one thing but what if they are not
accepted by
their own family itself? The present scenario in our country
particularly
offers a grim
situation for the one to rear the world. India's gender
imbalance has
worsened in the recent years and the females today in India
are
unfortunately the least valued member of a family unit.
Female foeticide
and female infanticide are rampant. In spite of stringent
measures taken by
the government, the evils continue unabated. Advancement
in medical science
is yoked to elimination of the gender to which Marie Curie
belonged. The
girls who somehow survive death in embryos are thrown in
to dustbins. Today
we have an alarming gender ratio particularly in states like
Punjab,
Haryana, and Rajasthan where men are paid for their wicked
practices. They
are unable to find brides for themselves.
With the rise of the democracy, the movement for the
emancipation of women
has gained grounds all over the world. But still everywhere,
even in the
most advanced countries of the world women are suffering
from a number of
disabilities and are regarded as social inferiors and men
continue to
dominate and exploit women some fields as in the field of
distribution of
powers and status in the society which they deserve equally.
Someone said that "when man started hating himself, when
his relations
broken into pieces, then after seeing this God created
WOMEN." Now in our
21st century in our fast moving mechanical life we might see
protests on
many issues such as crimes against women and reservation
for women and they
are some of the most heated discussion in our country today.
We daily come
across rallies, strikes, and violent agitation in which men and
women both
participated but"Are they able to bring any change in the minds of the people
or even in
the society"?
No, the answer is no. But why no? Because by all of these we
are not able
to change the way of thinking of the people living in our
surrounding. We
may do protest, go on strikes but what is the use if the
psychological way
of treating things and the behavior towards it remains the
same? All of
these go in vain as the impact on the mind is again the least
or negligible.
We may say that "we want this change that changes!" but
what about the
biggest change and which is for welfare
of the whole mankind and that is the upliftment of the status
of the women
in the society.
Now-a-days in our society's mental frame is less stereotyped
and
discriminated than earlier but at times the symphonious
attitude of the
people has led to deprivation of availability of resources and
this is one
of the leading cause of increased criminal offences against
women.
Not just this much every day hundreds of crimes against
women are reported
but these reports are also becoming history day by day.
Now coming to positive side we may see in our society there
are many NGO's
working as a ray of hope for the unprivileged not only this
our government
is also coming up with many schemes for female education
and even our young
generation is getting aware of its necessity and new ways of
resolving
problems like discussion with the involvement of women are
held and even we
as a responsible citizen of our country must come up with a
psychological
overhaul that would not only changes our thinking and action
but also us as
it is said that- "if you
want to change, change your mind and mind can positively
change everything
as it never too late." It is said right that everything in this
world has
come here for some purpose but some people think that the
women are only
meant for suffrage and it is some or the other way leading to
increased
mishap against women and this could orthodox could only be
changed if we
wish to do so. There are numerous examples in this world in
the women has
been a great achiever in the society like Kalpana Chawala,
Indira Gandhi,
Marie Curie, and Kiran Bedi etc., and there are also much
examples in which
women had been the greatest sufferers like the acid attacks
which have left
a lifelong spot in the lives of many. It can also be said that a
female=
'far more, "efficient" than male'. So we should encourage
them.
Proving a given chance is one thing and giving a chance is
another thing
and if the chance is not given then no one can say that the
women are less
than anyone, and if the chance is given then one day will
soon come when
men and women will both rule the world together in peace.
Fighting the bias against women is not an easy task, as most
of the
countries are steeped into tradition and culture. But the bias
must be
corrected as it vital for the
perpetuation of the human race as a girl is like diamond
which rises in
dark but shines out the sky and beyond.as it even said that"You were loved for the little girl you were, the special
daughter you are
now................ and a precious women you will always be......"
