The document provides casting details for the roles in a music video called "Bears Den Elysium". Ashley and Kieran are cast as the two main older brothers. Wilf and Albert are cast as the younger versions for a 30 second scene. Details are given for each actor regarding their experience, suitability for the physical roles, and ease of working with them. Costuming details are then outlined to distinguish the brothers' styles and ages through clothing. Finally, props needed are listed to help tell the story visually, including skateboards, a baseball cap, moving boxes, beers, and toys from their childhood.
2. MAIN ACTOR - ASHLEY
I have cast Ashley as the role of one of the
Brothers, though the role doesn't require
much in terms of acting, the role has
requirements which Ashely meets. Firstly I
have worked with Ashley before on films,
and in School productions, and this has filled
me with confidence that he can create a
believable and realistic performance. I know
his limitations, and can make sure that he is
comfortable in the role. But also by having
previous experience with him, I know his
strengths, and I can therefore play to them
to create the best performance possible. He
is an experienced actor because he has
taken Drama GCSE and A-Level, and he has
been in countless school performances. He
is a good friend of mine, so he is
responsible, reliable and patient. He is also
brothers with the other main actor, and so he
has a natural relationship with him,
subsequently bringing a more believable
performance. He is taller than his brother,
defining a clear age gap between the two.
3. MAIN ACTOR - KIERAN
I have cast Kieran as my second main actor
because once again he is an excellent actor
with a lot of experience. Through my
previous work with him I know he will excel
within this role as he will bring a lot of
energy and enthusiasm for the role. He
attends a local Ballet group, giving him
experience with performing. The role
requires a lot of energy and physical
endurance, for example when he smashes a
skateboard, skates down a road, and runs
after a car. Therefore Kieran is perfect for
this role because he is physically fit and
young, which means he has the ability to do
all of the physical tasks that I direct him to
do. He lives locally, in the same house as
Ashley, making it easy to contact and bring
them to the shoot. He looks considerably
younger and shorter than his brother, so is
perfect for the role of the ‘’younger
brother’’.
4. ACTOR - WILF
I have cast Wilf as one of the two younger
brothers that will star in the very beginning
of the video. They will act as the younger
version of the two older brothers (Ashley
and Kieran). He will only be used for about
30 seconds of the song, but his performance
still needs to be believable and natural. For
this reason I chose Wilf because he has a
passion for acting and a positive presence
around people. His role requires him to be as
energetic as possible, and along with Albert,
they will bounce off each other and create an
energetic ‘’brotherly’’ bond. He lives local to
me, and all the other actors, making it easy
to get him to and from the locations. He is
also considerably smaller than the older
brothers (because he is younger) and
therefore aids the understanding of the story
from the audiences perspective. In terms of
costume Wilf will be wearing shorts and a t-
shirt, and depending on the weather
conditions he may be wearing a jumper.
5. ACTOR - ALBERT
I have cast Albert as one of the two younger
brothers that will star in the very beginning
of the video. They will act as the younger
version of the two older brothers (Ashley
and Kieran). He will only be used for about
30 seconds of the song, but his performance
still needs to be believable and natural.
Albert has had previous acting experience,
and I am good friends with him, therefore
making it easy to work with him when
shooting. This will make shooting the video
more efficient. His role requires him to be as
energetic as possible, and along with Wilf,
they will bounce off each other and create an
energetic ‘’brotherly’’ bond. He lives local to
me, and all the other actors, making it easy
to get him to and from the locations. He is
also considerably smaller than the older
brothers (because he is younger) and
therefore aids the understanding of the story
from the audiences perspective. In terms of
costume Albert will be wearing shorts and a
t-shirt, and depending on the weather
conditions he may be wearing a jumper.
6. KIERAN’S COSTUME
The costume I have chosen to use on Kieran
will include black skinny jeans, a white t-shirt,
and a colourful over shirt with black shoes. I
am attempting to achieve a ‘’skater’’ look
with this costume choice, making him fit the
into the role of a young teenager who skates
around. I want his costume to contrast the
older brother who will be wearing mostly
black, to make sure their is a clear difference
between the two, allowing the audience to
understand the story better. The coloured
shirt has connotations of youth and
playfulness, two characteristics I am hoping
to get across with Kieran’s role.
The reason I am also using these clothes is
because Kieran already owns them, and
means there is no extra costs of having to go
out and buy them.
7. ASHLEY’S COSTUME
The costume I have chosen to use on Ashley
contrasts Kieran’s because it uses a mainly
black colour scheme. This is because it is
much more of a mature/older teenager style,
so i’m using it to my advantage to make a
visual/visible age gap between the brothers.
Also this clothing style has connotations of a
‘careless’ but ‘trendy’ teenager who tends to
follow social trends such as drinking, having
tattoos, skating. The costume also matches
Ashley’s body type (tall and slim) and what
he would normally wear, making his
performance more natural and comfortable,
because he wont be worrying about whether
the costume suits him, or the fit of the
clothes. The red cap will also be used as a
prop, and becomes a reoccurring item
throughout the music video.
The reason I am also using these clothes is
because Ashley already owns them, and
means there is no extra costs of having to go
out and buy them.
8. PROPS
SKATEBOARDS
I will be using skateboards to act as
the younger brothers way to connect
to the older brother. He uses it to
take out his upset and anger (literally
by smashing it on the ground). And
this creates more upset because he
will have broken an object that
meant a lot to the brothers when
they were younger. I will need two of
them, because they will go skating
together.
9. PROPS
BASEBALL CAP
The baseball cap will be used as a
‘symbol’ that will re-occur throughout
the video; it will act as an object to
aid the understanding that they are
brothers. In the end it will be used to
create sadness, when the old brother
leaves it behind, and the younger
brother picks it up, almost as a
metaphor for growing up and moving
on. It is red in colour because it
needs to stand out on screen, so that
the audience recognise the symbol.
10. PROPS
MOVING BOXES
I will need moving boxes to use as an
aid to help the audience understand
that the older brother is moving out
to go to college/university. Because
this is a music video there will be no
dialogue to tell the story and move
the narrative forward. So I am
depending on as many visual aids as
possible to help the audience
understand the story. I will need
about 3 large boxes to store his
clothes, and personal belongings.
11. PROPS
OTHERS
These props will al be used once in
the music video. I need the beers,
fishing line and fake tattoo pen, in
the second to last scene where the
brothers spend their last day
together. And I need the frisbee for
the very first scene with the two
young brothers (Wilf and Albert). I
will need two kids bikes and I will
also use the two skateboards that
the older brothers will use to get
some shots of the two kids having
fun together ‘In their youth’.
