4. HALF-DAY PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
Tuesday 3rd March 2015
13.00 – 17.00
Holiday Inn Regents Park Hotel, London, UK
Advanced Distributed Missile Defence
with Spatial Grasp Technology
Workshop Leader:
Dr Peter Sapaty, Chief Scientist,
Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems,
Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences
Overview of Workshop:
The workshop will provide history and current state of
distributed missile defence systems needing strong
supervision to timely react on unpredictable and
asymmetric situations. The Spatial Grasp Technology,
already tested on various networked tasks, will be
interactively presented for advanced missile defence
applications. The related scenarios will be described in a
special high-level language suitable for both manned
and unmanned components, paving the way for unified
transition to fully unmanned solutions of critical missions.
Invited are command and control personnel, missile
defence operatives, system scientists, software engineers.
The workshop will provide presentations of advanced
ideas and existing works in the field of missile defence,
also interactive and collective training of how to grasp
and comprehend (usually counterintuitive) large
distributed systems of different orientations and solve
complex integral problems in them.
Programme:
13.00 Registration & Coffee
13.30 Welcome & Introductions
13.40 History of space-based missile defence projects,
their strong and weak points
14.20 Providing high integrity, agility, and global goal
orientation of large distributed systems
15.00 Afternoon Tea
15.20 Distributed missile defence operations in Spatial
Grasp language (SGL) and their parallel
implementation
16.10 Simulation and analysis of possible nuclear
conflicts
16.50 Discussion Session
17.00 Close of Workshop
About the Workshop Leader
Dr Peter Sapaty Chief Research Scientist, Director of
Distributed Simulation and Control, Ukrainian Academy of
Sciences, is with networking for 45 years. Except Ukraine,
worked in Germany, UK, Canada and Japan as
Alexander von Humboldt awardee, project leader,
research professor and invited professor, created and
chaired special interest group on Mobile Cooperative
Technologies within Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)
project in the US. Invented high-level distributed control
technology used in different countries and resulted in a
European Patent and two John Wiley books, with the third
one in progress. Published more than 170 scientific papers
worldwide on distributed system organizations. Current
areas of interest: models and languages for coordination
and simulation of distributed dynamic systems with
application in cooperative robotics, emergency
management, command and control, and infrastructure
protection. Peter regularly served as workshop organizer,
sessions chair, keynote and invited speaker at scientific
and defence conferences in the UK, US, Japan, Portugal,
Spain, Germany, Singapore, India, and Turkey. His bio is in
