A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

9. Finance and Fundraising Subcommittee
9
The Fundraising and Finance Subcommittee aims to secure funding for
ZYNA's significant goals and help write the ZYNA AGM reports for
FEZANA. As our community members are geographically dispersed,
traditional in-person fundraising can be challenging. Therefore, we
prioritize major religious holidays and events to maximize fundraising
efforts. We collaborate closely with the Social Events and other
subcommittees for our annual Nowruz Concert to defray costs, such as
the Youth Congress for North American Zoroastrians.
Moreover, we focus on enhancing member engagement through
initiatives like donation drives for Giving Tuesday and youth discussion
groups on financial independence and well-being in our Z Wealth
WhatsApp group and biweekly Zoom meetings. These efforts encourage
youth to contribute to community-focused initiatives.
Our Subcommittee remains committed to securing resources and
empowering our community's future.
10. Outreach & Communications Subcommittee
10
The Outreach & Communications Subcommittee is dedicated to
promoting and showcasing the remarkable initiatives and
accomplishments of ZYNA across its various subcommittees. We strive to
raise awareness among youth, highlighting the vast array of talented
individuals from diverse fields who make up our vibrant community.
We focus on creating captivating graphics and promotional materials for
ZYNA's flagship events, including Nowruz Concert & Nowruz
Countdown, Weekly Zoom Hangouts, Monthly Game Nights, Movie
Nights, and the Student Success Series. Additionally, we will feature
ZYNA members and Zoroastrian businesses through spotlights on our
social media platforms. Furthermore, we will foster collaborations with
other Zoroastrian groups, ensuring maximum value for Zoroastrian
youth.
Through our efforts, we aim to amplify the visibility of ZYNA's
exceptional work and provide a platform for young Zoroastrians to
connect, engage, and excel.
11. Professional Development Subcommittee
11
The Professional Development Subcommittee is dedicated to equipping
students with the skills and resources necessary for success in the
collegiate and professional realms. We provide valuable support
throughout their academic journey, from high school to post-college
careers, by offering college prep sessions, professional networking
opportunities, and career talks.
The Student Success Series has covered a diverse range of topics,
including time management, teamwork, goal setting, and career
planning. Our sessions will focus on stress management, securing
internships, effective networking, and job interview strategies. As part of
our future initiatives, we plan to conduct Resume Writing workshops and
explore potential collaborations with WZCC to showcase young
Zoroastrian entrepreneurs.
We are committed to empowering students and fostering their personal
and professional growth.
12. Religion and Culture Subcommittee
12
ZYNA’s Religion & Culture Subcommittee is dedicated to educating the
North American community about Zoroastrianism; particularly the
influence the religion continues to have on members in and out of our
community. Going beyond basic Sunday school, we discuss much more
than just good thoughts, words, and deeds.
The R&C team currently holds ZOOM sessions every 2 months, where
qualified speakers share their expertise on various topics to foster
respectful discourse during Q&A sessions. In addition, we collaborate
with the Outreach and Communication subcommittee so we can find and
use modern ways to teach North American youth about Zoroastrianism.
Current projects in the works include, but are not limited to:
● Publishing concise Zoroastrian content on social media
● Utilizing AI to create art related to the Gathas, Avesta, and
Shahnameh.
● Creating free, virtual resources that both parents and youth can
enjoy together.
13. Service and Advocacy Subcommittee
13
The Service and Advocacy Subcommittee is currently engaged in the
ongoing "Attitude for Gratitude" program, a donation drive spanning
across North America. Collaborating with prominent Zoroastrian
organizations such as the Zoroastrian Association of Metropolitan
Washington Inc (ZAMWI), the Zoroastrian Society of British Columbia
(ZSBC), and the Zoroastrian Society of Ontario (ZSO), our efforts have
resulted in significant contributions of clothing, household items, and
food to support those in need.
Furthermore, our Subcommittee is diligently working on establishing a
two-week Zoroastrian Exchange Program catered to youth aged between
14-19. This ambitious endeavor aims to create an enriching experience
that can potentially evolve into an annual tradition. The program holds
particular significance for younger individuals seeking to forge
connections with their Zoroastrian identity in a novel and meaningful
way.
The Service and Advocacy Subcommittee remains committed to fostering
positive change and providing transformative opportunities for
Zoroastrian youth.
14. Social Events Subcommittee
14
The Social Events Subcommittee aims to create engaging events that
foster a sense of community among Zoroastrian youth. Our successful
Nowruz Concert (attended by over 300 individuals) has become an
annual tradition showcasing the exceptional talent of Zoroastrians and
Nowruz Countdown on Zoom which creates an inclusive and festive
atmosphere across the globe.
To further bring Zoroastrian youth together, we arrange Weekly Zoom
Hangouts, Monthly Game Nights, and Movie Nights, providing enjoyable
and interactive opportunities for connection. Additionally, our Z Fitness
WhatsApp group chat and Strava platform offer weekly fitness challenges,
fostering a supportive community of young Zoroastrians.
Our active WhatsApp groups for Z Wordle and Z Recipes provide avenues
for engagement and shared interests. We have organized exciting events
such as a Halloween Pumpkin & Dress Up Contest and a Holiday Gift
Exchange, creating memorable experiences and strengthening
connections among young Zoroastrians.
The Social Events Subcommittee is committed to fostering unity and
creating lasting memories for Zoroastrian youth.
