This document provides information on potential practicum sites for SIT graduate students in Service, Leadership, and Management. It lists over 30 organizations that have previously hosted SIT practicum students or interns. These organizations cover a wide range of fields including health services, peacebuilding, human rights, international development, education, and the environment. The document emphasizes that the list is not exhaustive and that students have completed practicums in many other settings not mentioned. It encourages students to consider the wide range of opportunities available to them.

4. The AIDS Project of Southern Vermont is a regional AIDS service
organization that provides direct services to people living with
HIV/AIDS, and HIV prevention services to those at most risk in
Windham, Bennington, and southern Windsor counties.

5. The Alliance for Peacebuilding initiates, develops and supports collaborative action
among nongovernmental, governmental, and intergovernmental organizations.
We also build understanding of and support for peacebuilding policies and programs
among leaders in government, business, media, philanthropy, religion, and other
sectors of civil society.
In addition, we help increase the effectiveness of the peacebuilding field by
developing networks, disseminating best practices, and enhancing organizational
capacities and professional skills.

6. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee is a grassroots civil
rights organization which welcomes people of all backgrounds, faiths
and ethnicities as members.
The ADC was founded in Washington, DC by U.S. Senator Jim
Abourezk in 1980 Advisory Board members include: Muhammad Ali,
Her Majesty Queen Noor, several U.S. Congressmen, & Casey Kasem
among others ADC has members in all 50 states - and it is the largest
Arab American organization of its kind.

7. The American Friends Service Committee carries out service,
development, social justice, and peace programs throughout the
world. Founded by Quakers in 1917 to provide conscientious
objectors with an opportunity to aid civilian war victims, AFSC's
work attracts the support and partnership of people of many races,
religions, and cultures.

8. Ashoka
Ashoka is currently looking for highly entrepreneurial
students and candidates with a strong commitment to social
change. Associates to work in our global headquarters in
Arlington, Virginia. Those looking to work in our international
offices should apply directly to the appropriate country
representative.

9. The Atlas Service Corps (Atlas Corps) facilitates international
fellowships for rising citizen sector leaders who volunteer
overseas for at least one year. These Fellows then commit to
work an additional year in the citizen sector of their home
country, sharing new skills, best practices, and valuable
experience.

10. BorderLinks is a bi-national, nonprofit educational organization at the
U.S./Mexico border dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring action
around global political economics. Our programs focus on cross-border
relationship building opportunities, issues of immigration, community
formation and development, and social justice in the borderlands
between Mexico, the U.S., and beyond.
BorderLinks has hosted several SIT interns and employed SIT alumni.

11. BRAC believes that poverty must be tackled from a holistic viewpoint,
transitioning individuals from being aid recipients to becoming
empowered citizens in control of their own destinies. Over the years,
BRAC has organized the isolated poor, learned to understand their
needs, piloted, refined and scaled up practical ways to increase their
access to resources, support their entrepreneurship, and empower them
to become active agents of change. BRAC Website

12. The Brattleboro Community Justice Center
is a partnership of the Town of Brattleboro, the Vermont
Department of Corrections, and the citizens of the
community. A Justice Center is a community organization
where citizens can work together to find ways to resolve
conflict peacefully, using primarily Restorative Justice
principles and practices. Justice Centers support this work
by providing various spaces to victims, offenders, and
other affected individuals or groups.

13. Council on International Education Exchange
The CIEE mission is one shared by many of us in international education: "to
help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for
living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.”
To fulfill that mission, CIEE provides both outbound international education
experiences for university students, faculty, and administrators, and study,
work, and internship opportunities for people coming into the U.S.
CIEE has hosted numerous SIT interns.

14. Praxis, an educational concept developed by Paulo Freire, is the moment when
theory and practice - reflection and action - fuse. Educational Praxis, Inc. provides
the learning experiences in which learning can be translated into action.
Educational Praxis believes there is a vital need for broader and deeper knowledge
of issues involving world cultures and people. In a time of globalization there are
few people-to-people encounters where new ways of human interaction
emerge. Praxis works to change this by forging new people-to-people links, and
by promoting critical thinking and creative action.
Educational Praxis has a long history with SIT and has several former students and
faculty its Board of Directors.

15. FSD blends the fields of International Education and
Sustainable Development. FSD regularly recruits
Fellows to lead sustainable development interns in
various locations around the world. Their position
openings are listed throughout the year and are

16. THE FUND FOR PEACE
PROM OTI NG SUSTAI NABLE SECURI TY
The Fund for Peace is an independent, nonpartisan research and
educational organization that works to prevent war and alleviate
the conditions that cause conflict.
We promote sustainable security through research, training and
education, engagement of civil society, bridging bridges across
diverse sectors, and developing innovative technologies and tools
for policy makers.

17. Global Visionaries (GV) empowers youth from diverse socio-economic,
ethnic, racial, and geographic backgrounds to become active leaders and
global citizens who promote justice. Through socially conscious and
environmentally focused education and community service in Seattle and
abroad, and recognizing that youth need to work together to be the change
for the future, GV encourages youth to seek alternative and innovative
approaches to the problems facing their generation.

18. Hunt Alternatives Fund advances innovative and inclusive approaches to social change at
the local, national, and global levels.
The Fund is focused on strengthening youth arts organizations in Eastern Massachusetts,
supporting leaders of social movements across the country, advocating for the full
inclusion of all stakeholders in peace and security processes around the world,
combating the demand for modern-day slavery, and inspiring women to political
leadership.

19. Ibdaa, which in Arabic means "to create
something out of nothing," is a grassroots
organization that provides educational, social,
and cultural programs for the children, youth,
and women of Dheisheh refugee camp.
Ibdaa strives to empower these children,
youth, and women, instilling in them
confidence and strength while also educating
the international community about Palestinian
refugees.
In 2007, a group of SIT students across a
range of degrees completed practica with
IBDAA.

20. The Center has begun conciliation initiatives in a variety of settings
and circumstances – in Israel, in India, in Western Europe,
Cambodia and Vietnam, in North and South Korea. Our approach is
built around ensuring that each adversary hears the 'other' and
acknowledges their differing views of the complex pasts they share.

21. The International Rescue Committee is a critical global network of first responders,
humanitarian relief workers, healthcare providers, educators, community leaders,
activists, and volunteers. Working together, we provide access to safety, sanctuary,
and sustainable change for millions of people whose lives have been shattered by
violence and oppression.

22. Iracambi, an organization dedicated to rainforest
preservation, annually recruits SIT students for
internships in Brazil.

23. Peace Boat is a Japan-based international non-governmental and non-profit
organization that works to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable
development and respect for the environment.
Peace Boat seeks to create awareness and action based on effecting positive
social and political change in the world. We pursue this through the organization
of global educational programs, responsible travel, cooperative projects and
advocacy activities. These activities are carried out on a partnership basis with
other civil society organizations and communities in Japan, Northeast Asia, and
around the world.

24. PEACE GAMES imagines a world where every child has the skills,
knowledge, supportive relationships, and opportunities to prevent violence
and build safer communities. A world where individuals and institutions
believe in the power of young people and that violence – in all of its forms
– can be prevented. Peace Games believes that this goal is best achieved by
building the capacity of schools and community groups to implement
holistic, peace and justice education programs.

25. POST OIL SOLUTIONS seeks to empower the
people of the Central Connecticut River Valley
bioregion to develop sustainable, collaborative,
and socially just communities leading to a self-
sufficient post petroleum society.

26. Presbyterian College annually recruits SIT students for
one position in their Office of International Programs
and one position in their Semester in Cuba program.

27. ProWorld’s mission is to empower communities, promote social and
economic development, conserve the environment, and cultivate educated
compassionate global citizens.
Last Spring ProWorld offered 10 internships for SIT students in various
locations around the world. These internships were separate from the
internships for high school and undergraduate students listed on ProWorld’s
website. ProWorld also offered a modest stipend for SIT Interns.

28. Religions for Peace
Religions for Peace is the largest international coalition
of representatives from the world’s great religions
dedicated to promoting peace.
Respecting religious differences while celebrating our
common humanity, Religions for Peace is active on
every continent and in some of the most troubled areas
of the world, creating multi-religious partnerships to
confront our most dire issues: stopping war, ending
poverty, and protecting the earth.

29. For more than 75 years, Save the Children has
been an independent force for change in the
lives of children in need, making it possible for
them to grow up healthy, safe and prepared for
a better future. By working hand-in-hand with
families and communities in rural America and
in more than 50 countries around the world, we
have nurtured the seed of hope for millions of
children.

30. Founded in 1982, Search for Common Ground works to transform the
way the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches
and towards collaborative problem solving. We work with local
partners to find culturally appropriate means to strengthen societies'
capacity to deal with conflicts constructively: to understand the
differences and act on the commonalities.

31. SEMESTER AT SEA
Operated by the nonprofit Institute for Shipboard Education, Semester at Sea's
worldwide itineraries integrate rigorous coursework with field assignments and
service learning in 8-12 international destinations, providing the skills necessary
to compete in today's rapidly globalizing world.
SAS offers two internships per year
exclusively to SIT students. Interns
sail on the Spring or Fall voyages
and work in the Academic Fields
Programs office.

32. Showa Boston and Colleges of the Fenway’s
Global Education Opportunities (GEO) center
offers a combined practicum each year for an
SIT student. The incumbent serves as a resident
advisor for Showa’s residence hall and also
works in GEO’s main office.

33. The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience is
a worldwide network of “Sites of Conscience” –
historic sites specifically dedicated to remembering
past struggles for justice and addressing their
contemporary legacies.
The Coalition is currently made up of 17 Accredited
Sites of Conscience and more than 100 Individual
and Institutional Members from around the world.

34. student conservation association
For college and graduate students, as well as other qualified individuals,
SCA internships provide the opportunity to learn from resource
management professionals, gain tangible skills and experience, and make a
substantial contribution to our natural and cultural treasures. SCA
Internships are available throughout the year, in all conservation
disciplines, and range in length from 12 to 52 weeks. All positions are
expense-paid and most offer insurance and education awards.

35. Sustainable Cambodia
Our mission is to help the Cambodian villages in which we work become
self-sustaining communities where people want to live, with healthy water
and facilities, good food, health care and education for the residents, where
there is environmental and social responsibility, and employment that
allows them to sustain and continually improve their quality of life.

36. Our mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity
by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort.
We recruit outstanding recent college graduates from all backgrounds
and career interests to commit to teach for two years in urban and rural
public schools. We provide the training and ongoing support necessary
to ensure their success as teachers in low-income communities.

37. Tostan has hosted several SIT interns in the past
few years. Tostan has committed to prioritizing SIT
applications for internship opportunities.

38. The Vermont Partnership
for Fairness and Diversity
For the people of Vermont we work to strengthen fairness and diversity in our
communities by eliminating prejudice and discrimination of all kinds.
We help community members understand and advocate for their rights;
educate communities on the realities and challenges of living in a world of
differences; and we teach the skills people need in order to thrive.
We provide information and recommendations to policy makers
on issues that impact the quality of life for those who are most disenfranchised.
SIT has had a long relationship with the Vermont Partnership. Several students
have completed practica here.

39. University of Arkansas at Fayetteville
International Living Learning Community (ILLC)
The mission of the ILLC is to "create an environment that
fosters cultural awareness, develop a broader world
outlook, and build strong, lasting bonds among citizens of
the world." This is accomplished by living and learning
with people of different cultures, perspectives and values,
as well as by participating in exciting social events ,
language tables, cooking competitions, and much more.
The ILLC annually recruits an SIT student intern.

40. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is
mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect
refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is
to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure
that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge
in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate
locally or to resettle in a third country. It also has a mandate to help
stateless people.
