Alexander Bell invented the telephone in 1876 when he uttered the famous phrase "Mr. Watson - come here - I want to see you" during an experimental demonstration on March 10th. The first telephone exchange was established in 1878 allowing subscribers to connect through operators. Since its invention, the telephone has evolved from manually operated phones that required connecting to exchanges, to automatic phones with dials, to today's variety of cellular, satellite, internet, and other wireless technologies that allow for remote communication.
