The science and philosophy of ‘Consciousness’ have references about idea of Zombies; the
undead bodies coming out of graves. However, concept of zombies surely does not seem a
creation of scientific mind. It is more a literary fiction and eventuality of imaginative minds.

2. The important thing is to go deep down in the idea of zombies and its popularity in human
minds, especially where it sells well. The Americans seem to buy this ‘fiction’ very well in
the supermart of populist bazaar. It is only natural that modern day science fictions and
science based Hollywood movies have loads of Zombie stuffs.
Zombies realism amid masses apart, related abstractions have already been there and
doing good business. Even before the advent of zombies overtaking popular minds in
America, angels were quite in vogue. Surveys say, 77% Americans believe in angels, even
though it is said that only 40 Americans believe in global warming.
The fact remains that, it may be intelligence for average person to see and accept that at
present, Ist century BC is thousands of years apart and away. But, in reality, all time
remains in close proximity, just a hand-swing away. Still, 25% Americans believe that Sun
revolves round the Earth. Overwhelming 97% scientists may accept evolution but average
Americans have more ‘rewarding’ notions about humans on earth…!
Zombies and angels are not 14th century ideas; they exist today and are doing great.
Surveys show, 14% Americans believes in the possibility of a Zombie Apocalypse. Not only
that; 45% Americans feels that their politicians are close something like Zombies. Also,
30% Americans say the same about reality TV stars.
The modern science and study of Consciousness has found it interesting. It has taken a leaf
out of this Zombie notion and its acceptance among humans. While studying the idea of
consciousness, it is widely being accepted among scientists that humans alone cannot claim
to have exclusivity of consciousness. Many complex organisms like dogs, cats, elephants,
whales, dolphins and many mammals may have varying degree of consciousness. Inversely,
many humans may also have consciousness of dogs, cats and computers.
If that is to be accepted, if consciousness is accepted in widest and lengthiest perspectives,
then it is rightly being termed that even among humans, consciousness is not a singular and
uniform entity. It has shades and the lowest shade may be a zombie of oneself. If a segment
of science insists that even a thermostat, a computer or worse, your smart phone may have
some shade of consciousness, like a zombie…

3. This zombie analogy is about a consciousness, which is ‘mechanical’, somehow working but
looks only a programmed one, like a robot and as it does not have a ‘meta-cognitive’ ability,
it can be programmed or tunes up, like a thermostat or smart phone to act and behave in a
‘fixated’ format.
Interestingly, one must ask, what has led so many Americans to believe and accept that
zombies are not fictitious but can be real. May be, because, in American society, growingly,
there are people, who have lost the usual higher consciousness, or the meta-cognition
about right and wrong. They have lost this usual human discretion to stop, reflect and
analyze a decision. They are more like robots or zombies…
Why blame America and poor Americans. If zombie consciousness is a parameter, there are
billions of people all over the globe, who qualify for this ‘zombie consciousness’. The
internet has probably extended them life enhancing ‘blood’ to draw power and energy.
Psychologists accept that billions of profiles on social networking sites and dating sites can
qualify as ‘Zombie Consciousness’, as they act and behave like ‘undead’ corpses, having
little or no higher consciousness or meta-cognitive elements, which are hallmark of
humans. They like you, follow you, troll you and hate you like zombies, as if programmed to
do so, without any assigned reason or logic.
Outside the world of internet too, there are billions of people, who are actually living
corpses. Their bodies are living in 2017 and mind consciousness date back to before Christ
era. Bring up the talk of religion, ethnicity, nationalism, war and love’ you shall see so many
zombies rising from their graves and hitting you to smithereens…
