Zhenbeibao Western Studios, located in Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui
Autonomous Region, is a national AAAAA-class tourist attraction
integrating sightseeing, entertainment, leisure, catering and
shopping. Founded by writer Zhang Xianliang on September 21, 1993.
The town of Zhenbeibao Western Studios is characterized by its
simplicity, primitiveness, roughness, desolateness and folklore. The
main attractions are Mingcheng, Qingcheng, Laoyinchuan Street and
other extras.
In April 2007, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was named “China’s most
popular tourist destination” and is one of China’s top ten film and
television bases. The film “Westward Journey”, “New Longmen Inn”,
“Red Sorghum” and so on. At the 2018 China Yellow River Tourism
Conference, it was rated as “50 Scenes of the Yellow River in China”.
Historical evolution
During the Ming Dynasty (AD 1500), Zhenbei Fort Western Studio was
built. It was called “Zhenbei Fort” and was the frontier fortress in the
Ming and Qing Dynasties.
In the five years of Qing Emperor Qianlong (AD 1740), a major
earthquake occurred in Ningxia, and the town of Beibei was
destroyed. It was built in the place not far from Zhenbei Fort, and it
was built as “Zhennan Fort”.

In 1969, Zhang Xianliang, who was still working on the farm,
discovered Zhenbei Fort.
In 1980, Zhang Xianliang transferred to Ningxia Federation of
Literary and Art Circles and introduced Zhenbei Fort to the “One and
Eight” film crew. Since then, the film and television crew have come
to this scene.
In 1982, according to Zhang Xianliang’s novel “Ling and Meat”, the
film “Wrangler” directed by Xie Jin came here to capture the film and
won the Manila International Film Festival Award.
On September 21, 1993, Zhang Xianliang founded the Western Studios
in Zhenbei Fort.
In 1998, 22 herders living in the western studio of Zhenbeibao were
relocated.
In 2012, Zhenbeibao Western Studios built the “Old Yinchuan Street”
in 97 days.
In 2014, Zhenbeibao Western Studios opened a dedicated channel for
online ticket sales.
Beginning in July 2016, Zhenbeibao Western Studios launched a
scenic night tour project.

4. Building pattern
Zhenbei Fort Western Studio City is located at the northern end of
Xixia District, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It
covers an area of 0.7 square kilometers and has a construction area of
500,000 square meters. There are two ancient castles in the western
studio of Zhenbeibao. The two castles are one south and one north.
They are called Zhenbei Fort and Zhennan Fort. They all sit west to
the east. The town of Zhenbei Fort Western Studios features a
primitive, primitive, rough and desolate folk. In the Western Studios
of Zhenbei Fort, the scenes and props that have taken part of the film
have been preserved and restored for visitors to watch. The scenes on
display are the Chengmen Building and the Shing Mun Cave in the
“Westward Journey”, and a series of scenes such as the “Avalanche of
the Earth” when Sun Wukong and the Bull Devil fight. The
“Blacksmith Camp” in the “Yellow River” is a real scene. In the “Red

the large bowls of the wine. There are also film and television service
facilities such as the Film Archives Auditorium.

5. Main Attractions
Qingcheng
Qingcheng, located at the northern end of the Western Studios in
Zhenbei Fort (the main entrance of the scenic spot), was built in the
Qing Emperor Qianlong five years (AD 1740). It was another barracks
built by the Emperor Qianlong after the Ming Dynasty was destroyed
by the earthquake, hence the name “Qingcheng”. . The two barracks
are similar, showing the military value of Helan Mountain. Qingcheng
looks like a big turtle, taking the meaning of “spiritual tortoise down
the mountain, good luck”. The interior of Qingcheng is mainly
performed by various folk and folk crafts. The main attractions are
Yucheng, Lucky Gate, Mysterious Cave, Baihuatang, Film and TV
Street, Ancient Castle Turtle, Dudufu, Niu Dewang Palace, Guanyin
Pavilion, Exhibition Hall, and Star. Kennels, bulletin kiosks, etc. The
second gate of the Qing Castle is known as the “gate of luck.” It is
called “the gate of luck”, because it is located in the middle section of
Helan Mountain, there is the potential of Wolong. The “Zhu

6. Mingcheng
Mingcheng, located at the southwestern end of the western studio of
Zhenbeibao (the south side of Qingcheng), was built in the Ming
Dynasty (1500 AD) and was one of the many military fortresses built
along the northwest line of the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty. “. In
the third year of Qing Emperor Qianlong (AD 1738), the Zhenbei Fort
Brigade was destroyed by the earthquake. Mingcheng reflects the
original, rough, simple and desolate natural features. It is the main
shooting scene of the film and television city. The main attractions
are cornucopia, Wrangler, Cultural Revolution Courtyard, Moon Gate,
Guanzhong Gate, Chai Caodian, Pansidong, Dingzhou General
Manager. House, wine workshop, nine children’s room, blacksmith
camp, ruins gallery, Zhaoqintai, Longmen Inn, etc. After the collapse
of the North Fortress built in the Ming Dynasty, the Qing government
rebuilt the barracks. There is a two-legged barracks in Zhenbeibao,
which is a unique phenomenon in China, forming a “taiji map.”
Old Yinchuan Street
The old Yinchuan Street is located at the southeastern end of the
western studio of Zhenbei Fort (east side of Mingcheng). In 2012, the
“Old Yinchuan Street” was built in 97 days. The scenic spot is built on

7. the central axis of the original “Ningxia Provincial National
Government” (namely “Ma Hongyu Bureau”) and is based on the most
prosperous “Lishuxiang” in Yinchuan City. Reproduced the old shops
and old streets of the year. The street is 120 meters long, and the
shops on both sides of the street are divided into six 400-500 square
meters halls. There are Yinchuan Historical Exhibition, Fire Science
Education Exhibition, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea

In 1985, Zhenbei Fort Western Studios (currently known as “Zhenbei
Fort”) was declared a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit
by the Yinchuan Municipal Government.
In April 2006, Zhenbeibao Western Studios won the “Silver Award” in
50 places that China is most worthy of foreigners.
In July 2006, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was rated as “2006 China
Top Ten Film and Television (Base)”.
On February 25, 2006, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was named
“China’s Best Tourism Scenic Spot”.
On March 15, 2007, Zhenbeibao Western Studios won the
representative unit of China Quality Miles.
On December 26, 2007, Zhang Xianliang, the chairman of Zhenbeibao
Western Studios, was selected as one of the top ten collectors in

On August 8, 2007, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was awarded the
title of “The Most Popular Destination for Travel” by the China
Tourism Boutique Promotion Conference.
In March 2008, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was awarded the

Development Comprehensive Experimental Base”.
In December 2009, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was rated as
“National Film and Television Designated Shooting Scene” by China
Radio and Television Association and TV Production Committee.
On December 9, 2010, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was awarded the
“National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base” by the Ministry of
Culture.
In January 2011, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was rated as a national
AAAAA tourist area.
In 2016, Zhenbeibao Western Studios was rated as “the top ten
ancient towns in 2016 with the attention of the Chinese newspaper
industry”.
In June 2018, Zhenbei Fort Western Film was selected for the second
time to find a high-quality popular tourist destination in China.

Ticket
Tickets for the North Castle Studios in Zhenbei Fort are 100 yuan
(including visits to all attractions and program appreciation,
including explanation services). Half-price tickets for undergraduate
and below students, free of charge for disabled and active military
personnel, and free of charge for senior citizens over 60 years old.
