The first major standard describing a structured cabling system was released in 1995.
Balance is an issue in UTP cables because the signal over the wire pairs needs to be symmetrical to minimize unwanted leakage of the signal. TCL, or Transverse Conversion Loss, measures this balance by applying a common mode signal to the input and measuring the differential signal level on the output. A low TCL indicates good cable balance.

CARNIMUN 2011
CARNIMUN was held on the 19th of October at SZABIST 100 as a fund raiser to
cover various costs for the ZABMUN 2011 conference.
After weeks and weeks of preparations: making posters, spamming Facebook,
making phone calls, bookings, and sending emails, CARNIMUN happened.
The morning was hectic, some of the stalls that had to be set up were not being let
through SZABIST security, the EB and all the teams were running around trying
to sort out technical issues, place the stalls, help them set up, and after all the
crazy-ness we were ready to entertain!
With stalls like Karachi tips, ZAB Souvenirs, Delfrio, Bun Kebab, Pie In The Sky,
Pizza Hut, Subway, Biryani of the Seas, Cotton Candy and Pani Puri; and music
playing in the 100 garden, it didn’t take long to gather a crowd.
From the beginning till the very end, 100 garden was occupied with people
enjoying the music, talking, chilling, eating, and of course, taking pictures.
ZABMUN Publications interviewed a few of the event attendees. We asked them
what they thought of CARNIMUN and the idea behind it, how well they think it
had been advertised, where they think we need to improve, and how it has
improved from last year’s CARNIMUN.
Osman Ansari (Ex-President ZABMUN 2010-2011):
Much better than what we had last year because last year was like a
spur of the moment thing. They’ve actually put in a lot of effort. I
think it’s just testament to the fact that whatever ZABMUN put’s
their mind to they can actually pull off spectacular events.

Last time around, we had very ambitious plans and we did not have
resources to fulfill the plans, so we put this (CARNIMUN) together
at the last moment because we needed financial support to pull
through. But, carrying forward that very plan this year around
shows that the current EB takes this whole thing very seriously and
it is something that should be taken seriously. We were the 1st
flagship conference Karachi had ever seen and we need to continue
that and in order to do that in this era, spiraled in cost, we need to
do this.

Abbas Jaffery: I think the (advertisement) was good; I’ve been
wanting to come.I think it’s a really good incentive; people are out
here putting up their stalls. Especially like Sanya’s stall (Artel by
Bina Ali) has gotten a lot of exposure.
Anushe Khan: I don’t love it as much as Abbas. However, it’s a good
initiative. I don’t remember last year’s CARNIMUN at all but this is
not bad.
Shaan Alam: ticket nai hona chaye, kyunke hum ander waisey hee
pay ker rahe hain.
Isabell: I’m enjoying the food. I don’t remember the CARNIMUN
last year but I think this is a good idea to raise funds.
Haider Naqvi: I think it’s really good. In the sense that there are a
lot of stalls, there’s actually one weird stall which is selling boxers,
which is quite fascinating, that was the highlight of this event for
me.
Muhammad Shah: I think it’s pretty cool, there’s a lot of random
stuff to do and good stuff to buy. You have to make money
somehow, pretty good way to do it.
Waleed Rashid: Decoration needed improvement.
Samina Wahid: I thought it was great. Much better than last year.
Hayat Khan (Ex-Member Social Events): CARNIMUN was a good
experience. It was a mixture of events according to me, there were a
variety of foods to have; there were hotdogs, puris, pizzas, ice-
cream, it was basically a mixture of culture via food. As for the
arrangement, it was a good event itself and was at a bigger scale
compared to last year.
Last year it was a start up, this time it was a trend setter. I hope to
see CARNIMUN go to the next level in its third year InshAllah
Bemisal Iqbal (Ex-Director Social Events 2009-2011): The best
feeling in the world is when you look back at the past and you see
what you had initiated as a mere function to raise a few thousands
and have some fun, has now become a tradition by ZABMUN and
has come this far.

It was truly exhilarating to see my little ones running around and
working just like we used to and I must say these guys pulled it off
very very well. This certainly was the best all day event this
semester. Looking forward to seeing absolute awesome-ness in the
coming events now. Dil khush kar ditta.
In the end, ZABMUN publications would like to leave you with some food for
thought: if CARNIMUN was such a hit, imagine how awesome the rest of the
social events will be. Book your tickets now, you know you want to!

Because, it's how we do.
This year, our Conference aims to instill in its participants a force of
diplomacy, an art of negotiation and the power to exercise tolerance
towards other nations. This four day Conference based on intense
discussion on global issues at various UN Committee(s), will redesign
your state of mind to that of an Ambassador, only so that one day when
you speak for yourself, you feel for the nation. –Mina Kidwai
(President ZABMUN 2011-2012)
With the applications rolling in, ZABMUN is officially back and ready to roll.
The publications team is delighted to be back as well!
Watch what you say, think before you do, don’t withdraw yourselves a night before
the conference, because we know, we see, and we write-all.
See you in November!
p.s. don't forget to send in an email at zabmun@gmail.com to schedule your Training
Sessions.

Where is Nixor, where did they
hide? :O
ZABMUN 2010 started off with a bang and proceeded to amaze the delegates
that took part in its glorious Opening Ceremony. However, amongst all the
festivities there was one, or rather four, delegations that were not present. Who
had canceled. The very night before. And not informed any of the ZABMUN
officials until they were called at 12 o’clock at night for a final confirmation.
The delegations from Nixor College disappeared from the MUN scene and were
a noshow even after paying up a hefty sum of money that went up to a 5 digit
number. The reason for their absence? Supposedly a test week came out of the
blue which completely engulfed the 18 delegates who could not turn up. And
these 18 had not even informed any of the ZABMUN team of their socalled
cancellation. Maybe ZABMUN would not have felt the loss of these delegates had
they not been assigned major countries due to their affiliation with a prestigious
Alevel college of Pakistan.
Apparently, the Nixor delegates believed that the MUN could proceed without key
countries, namely United States of America, Palestine and Israel. That would
have indeed been quite a New World Order. Or they perceived that they could be
replaced quite easily when the Opening Ceremony was simply 12 hours away.
But, while the rest of the delegates, both canceling and attending delegates slept,
the ZABMUN Team, along with their President tried to frantically resolve the
crisis. And behold, their awesomeness made them quite successful. And
ZABMUN is yet again a miracle worker.
Since the Nixor administration is blissfully unaware of their bloopers and have not
yet given any comment on the sudden cancellation, we still remain in the dark
regarding the true reason for Nixor not being able to MUN. While ZABMUN rolls
on, the Nixor MUNers will have to wait to implement their New World Order
strategies, perhaps in the future you guys! For now lets just stick to the prevailing
United Nation structure, wishful thinking can wait. Cheers!

From, the Former Madam President
All the crazy frenzy activities take me back a year, oh what a year I had, or
rather 6 months.
Everything in life was put on hold to give priority to make ZABMUN 2009
a possibility and ensure that the ZABMUN conference wasn’t just a
onetime fluke event. Pressure? Nah, not at all!
I have to admit, when a conference is about to happen and there are still a
couple of weeks left, very few people work and it is very annoying for
those who are working. These 810 people always get stuck doing
EVERYTHING. It happens every year and I see it happening this year too.

But what I love is that regardless, ZABMUN is such a team effort and in
some way or another, everyone is of value in making ZABMUN happen.
Today, when I see everyone working so hard, so tensed, I remember the
good times. I remember the conference ending. I remember us reaching our
required amount of delegates. I remember the fun and none of the tension.
And believe me, that is all you will want to remember.
So to all of you coming to ZABMUN for the first time WELCOME. Do
your best. MUN away. The executive council has worked day & night to
bring you one of the best ZABMUN conferences ever!
So, have fun ;)
To those who have been here before, it will be a pleasure to meet you again.

.. ZABMUN 2008 Memoirs
I’m lucky enough to be one of the founding members of ZABMUN, and as part of
the Executive Body back then, saw the craziest of times! From convincing the
administration to understand how the society would actually develop their
students.. To convincing ourselves that we can actually pull off a whole
conference.. A conference Karachi had never before seen, and what a
conference it was!
I’m allowed to gloat in its success As are the rest of my fellow ZABMUN
members, because we know how scared we were.. Of the responsibility we had
taken upon us.. And how selflessly we worked our days and nights.
A team effort it was, and a team effort it has always been. The best thing about
our members has always been how tirelessly all of them work for that one goal:
the success of ZABMUN.
ZABMUN I am.. ZABMUN I will be.
See you all in a few days :)
