Your respective essays continue to need work. I have
no idea what your main points of emphasis are
supposed to be in your first essay, on The Development
of Modern Asia and Africa, for this 3rd Research
Module.
I highly recommend that you go back and review the
guidelines for the assignment. Then, choose some of the
websites for this topic, truly read them over in a careful
manner, and use that information to offer solid general
historical content coverage and insight.
You should also use the brainstorming questions in the
assignment handout to step by step guide your essay
writing process points of emphasis:
Does the historical topic seem transformative and if so
or not what is your explanation for why or why not?
Who are some of the key historical figures of the
historical topic's time period and what were their major
impacts?
What were the biggest events of the historical topic's
era of time and how would you explain the significance
of them?
Would this be a historical topic that you would have
liked to experience in person and what is your basis for
1
why or why not?
What are great positives and or negatives that
developed during this historical topic's era and what is
your basis for these choices?
You also need to continue to improve your grammar
and editorial quality and this stuff needs to be improved
in your 1st and 2nd essay.
However, your 2nd essay also needs to be revised from
a content standpoint. As with the first essay, I honestly
do not see a coherrent set of observations of the main
events, key figures, and themes from the historical
period of the American Revolution.
I have placed, in the bottom portion of this feedback, a
past sample essay from another topic, that of a brief
research on Ancient Egypt, that demonstrates the
proper type of approach you should take on these
research essays. You can use this as a model to better
shape your own essays on these and other upcoming
topics.

Ancient Egyptian society was very much like our
society today. They had a person that was above all else,
called a Pharaoh. The Pharaoh was the ruler of all, and
the Egyptians believed their Pharaoh's to be holy. Then
you had those who worked closely in the government, as
well as the soldiers who fought in war. Society trickled
down all the way to those enslaved and those who were
servants. The people who were enslaved were at the
bottom of the barrel. They were poor and treated
inadequately, as they were often subject to working on
building structures such as the pyramids. A surprising
fact about Ancient Egyptian history is that women were
treated equally. They had the same basic rights as men
did, and you did not see this often in other cultures in
history. They could own property, be in the company of
men, and even divorce an.

Peer Review Journal Paper Overview of assignment due 17 April 2014
I want you to find a peer review article that falls into our time frame: world history from the
emergence of humanity to 1500 CE. I want you to present the thesis [argument] the author is
putting forward. I want you then to find two other sources on the same subject and determine if
those sources agree or disagree with your original source. The theme here is peer review and the
notion of historiography; whether or not how we look at an event or theme of history changes
over time? The choice of topic is up to you but please let me know what you are doing by email
and let me know what your peer review source is so I can be sure it is appropriate for the course.

Reading Journal for World History
Your journal includes reflections and observations on the reading. This is an opportunity to share your perspective on the topics you find most interesting. You may also want to share your insights on the type of questions historians address and how we attempt to understand societies.
Starting with Chapter 2 you will notice a particular feature called “Sources from the Past”. Please use two or more of these sections each time you turn in your journal. Put the title of the document in bold so I will know which documents you read. For example, you might have read selections from the
Epic of Gilgamesh
or
Hammurabi's Laws
. Relate the document to the events in the chapter.
I also encourage you to write about pictures, maps, or other features you find in the reading.
You do not have to write about every chapter. Usually you get the best results if you take on one or two topics each time you turn in the journal. It helps if you label the topics. You may use any style, but please divide your writing into paragraphs.
You can earn 50 points for two and a half solid pages (double spaced) of quality writing. You are welcome to write more and you can earn up to 60 points for each time it is assigned. I mainly consider how much you have thought about topics in the reading and how you use the documents or other evidence available in the chapters.
Suggested Journal Prompts
Here are some prompts that you might want to use:
1.
What did you find most interesting or surprising (in a particular section)? How does the material relate to what you learned earlier, perhaps in other classes?
2.
What trends do you seen in this chapter that have shaped the world we live in today?
3.
If you did a movie set in the time period of this chapter, what would be the key elements in your movie? Tell how you imagine some of the characters, and what challenges they would face.
4.
Describe the time span covered in this chapter. How does the span relate to key events? Why do you think the authors chose this span of time? Would you arrange it differently?
5.
How might we understand the history differently from someone living in the time period? Do you think people will react to this chapter differently, depending on their cultural background?
6.
When examining a document: What is the historical context? What do we know about the source? How can the document help us understand the society in that time and place?

Part 1Globalization is the motivating force behind the busines.docxdanhaley45372
Part 1
Globalization is the motivating force behind the business environment in the 21st century.
Debate the following the veracity of the following statement:
Globalization only significantly affects the CEOs of multinational corporations and high-net-worth individuals.
If your last name begins with A-M you are to argue that the statement is true. If your last name begins with N-Z you are to argue that the statement is false. Reference your reading material. Remember that any debate requires that you try to persuade the reader to your point of view. Here are a few hints for your success:
· Make sure to end your discussion with your best argument.
· Use stronger definitive word choice for your best arguments.
· Open your argument with you second best supporting point.
· Put your weakest point in the middle and choose words which are descriptive to make it more interesting.
· NEVER USE “I think”, “I believe,” “I feel” or personal pronouns of any kind. Unfortunately unless you are an expert your opinions are not very convincing.
· Be creative with your ideas to keep the reader interested in your point of view.
· Do not make this a presentation, report or quotes.
· USE YOUR OWN WORDS AND SELECT THEM PURPOSEFULLY.
The category for the argument is to be true in nature for the last name begins with A-M

Remember our up and coming leader in the multinational organization from last week?
What advice would “you” give “you” about how globalization affects your job? What skills and characteristics do you need to know to continue your success?
FYI:Organization Situation
A North America division (approximately 400 employees) of an international company is experiencing rapid growth through it success strategies and through a series of acquisitions. The leadership team has doubled and the next level of management has tripled with further increases expected to support overall growth of the company. You have

HIST102 – United States History since 1877

Writing Assignment 1 and 2
This document contains important information regarding the Writing Assignment 1 and
Writing Assignment 2. The papers will be submitted through the “Assignments” area of
the classroom (upload the paper as a Word document and submit). Please contact me
immediately if you are unclear about these requirements.
The purpose of this assignment is to choose three important people or events in American
history through the readings of weeks 1-4 (writing assignment 1) or weeks 5-8 (writing
assignment 2.) You have some flexibility with this assignment. For example, you can
write about three important acts that the British imposed which caused the colonists to
seek independence against the mother country. Or, you could write about three important
events during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson. Contact your instructor if you need
guidance regarding a topic.
The assignment asks you to find a minimum of two academically credible sources (one
may be your textbook), develop a clear, focused thesis statement, and to support your
thesis with clear, insightful, consistent writing. This assignment will enhance your
research and writing skills, both of which are applicable not only to this course but to
many different careers.
You may include your own opinions and ideas as long as they reflect a solid
understanding of the reading material. For example, if you write about the presidency of
Thomas Jefferson, feel free to include your opinion as to how his ideas made the country
stronger, freer, or more prosperous, but your primary focus should be an analysis of the
factual information that you have utilized to support your thesis and main ideas.
Your ideas must be supported by information from your sources since you are using these
sources to prove your thesis. After all, the purpose of a research paper is to make a case
and to convince the reader that your writing and research supports your thesis. Whether
you quote information directly from your sources, or paraphrase, you must cite your
sources generously to give credit to the sources and to avoid plagiarism.
You may utilize one of two citation methods in your essay (depending on which method
you are most familiar): MLA or Chicago/Turabian. Your instructor will post links to web
sites that contain more specific information about utilizing these methods.
Your paper must contain a cover page, an introduction paragraph, three body paragraphs
(one paragraph for each of your three people/events) and a conclusion paragraph. The
paper length is about 3 pages, double-spaced. A separate document in the Resources

Women Studies
There has been a steady, progressive and constant increase in scholarship of women's studies ever since its introduction decades ago. It was established as an independent rubric in the 1960s and since stirred much insight into it nad further ealuations.1 It may also be referred to as gender studies or feminism studies wherevtypo factors such as politics, history, mediand society are explored into, as per the feministic perspective. Until this academic revolution, only men’s experiences and ideologies were seriously studied, this being of the privileged in most cases. This was due to the assumption and misled perception that understanding them was to understand all that was worth knowing.2
Scholars in various filedsSpl have now deemed it essential, crucial and necessary to consider gender as a factor of analysis. Modermtypo women movements have also raised issues that have greatly changed public disourse. Primarily, the purpose and intention of women studies is to portray and treat women as subjectives and not objectives3,run on this is to help an individual to look at the world through a woman’s eye. The very basis of knowledge in our universaties has been affected due to rethinking the world through a woman’s eye.
This brief essay4 gains insight on the issue of women studies, though from a rather narrowed and summarized view. It looks into an article written on the topic at hand and further elaborations into it. The first aspect to be evaluated in the article is the event being analzed. This is to form a basis of what the entire paper is to entail. The sides taken by he debate will then be clarified and the reader given a chance to know what opposing points wil be discussed. The ideas about women being highlighted will then be the proceeding point of focus before finalizing the essay with an insight on attitude of the article’s author. This determines whether the light shade on the discussed are portrayed negatively or positively.
The author’s article deals in women studies as a whole. The question she poses to the readeris; what is women’s studies? This is broad and diverse topic that entails almost everyhthingtypo would wish to know about women studies. At the very same time, it is a topic that may restrict one to the simple pros and cons of involved in women studies; the topic’s unique juxtaposition generally makes it a tricky and rather slippery topic. As explained by the author, women studies is not the simple study of women, but rather, the study of women that puts power at the center of the process. This is because it entails the examination of the entire world as it is, together with the humans in it, through question, analyses and theories that have been built directly on women’s experiences. according to the author, women’s studies is about difference in various aspects of life just as the lived experiences of women are not the same. This diff.

What follows is a set of ideas on writing papers in sociology. The objective is to provide you with guidelines to consider.
COMPOSING AN OUTLINE
It should be strictly adhered to. For example:
I. Introduction
II. Literature Review and Methods for the Collection of Data
III. Discussion and Analysis
IV. Conclusion
V. Bibliography
CAREFULLY CHOOSE YOUR TOPIC
First seek out journal articles or books on your chosen subject to get some sense of style and outline. Read critically and make notes.
DATA COLLECTION
Decide what methods you will use to collect data to inform your work.
COMPOSING THE PAPER
1. State as precisely as possible, the question you intent to pursue.
2. Sketch the main line of your argument or the major elements of your explanation.
3. Note any significant source material.
4. Footnotes are used for the following purposes:
d. to indicate the exact source of every question used;
d. to acknowledge indebtedness to others for opinions or ideas;
d. to give the authority for a fact that the reader might be inclined to doubt because it is outside his/her ordinary experience, e.g. history
CITING SOURCES/REFERENCES
Citing references refers to the acknowledgment in your paper of the sources of words, information, ideas, or interpretations other than your own. These may be in terms of paraphrases or direct quotation of others. In either case, documentation is mandatory.
HINTS ON PRESENTATION
One issue about which students worry , is the thought of being accused of writing only 'their own opinion'. Opinion is involved in everything that is written. However, the following practices help avoid essays which are unbalanced, or opinionated.
1. Present conflicting ideas. It is often useful to say that 'one explanation is...' but 'some contrary views are expressed by... ', or 'one way of understanding this is...' Try to entertain alternative explanations or interpretations.
2. Present supporting evidence. Often you can choose between different explanations by showing that evidence supports one position and not others.
3. Make use of quotations. Quoting the 'experts' can often be an effective strategy (although experts can be wrong.)
4. Structuring information in sequence. Your ideas should build on one another. Once you have established a point (either through quotation or evidence, or both), it can be used effectively to argue against other interpretations.
EVALUATING A PAPER
General criteria of evaluation are spelled out below but they have, of course, been central to everything said above. They are loosely arranged in order of importance.
1. Statement of clear purpose in the introduction.
2. Clear, precise, specification of an important sociological question (puzzle, topic).
3. Logical development of a well-rounded argument.
4. Evidence that the nature of the topic under consideration is understood (for example: awareness and appreciation of alternative views).
5. Evidence that available information has been consulted (relevant quotes, publicity ava.

HIS 200 Project 2 Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
History is for human self-knowledge . . . the only clue to what man can do is what man has done. The value of history, then, is that it teaches us what man has
done and thus what man is.
—R. G. Collingwood
Historical awareness informs various aspects of our lives. We live in a time of rapid change, and we often think more about the future than the past. However,
studying history can help us better understand our own lives in the context of the places we live and society in general. In America, specifically, the government is
informed by its citizens. If the ideals of society shift, that shift will eventually move throughout the different levels of government, effecting widespread change.
For the projects in this course, you will select a historical event that has impacted American society in some way. You may select an event that was discussed in
the course, or you may select your own event, with instructor approval. You may consider using the event you chose to work on in your Perspectives in History
class, if that event is something you wish to investigate further through this assessment.
In Project 1, you will develop a plan for an essay on this historical event. The plan will include a brief description of the selected historical event and the resources
you will use in your research. In addition, you will identify an audience for your essay and decide how to communicate your information to this audience. In
Project 2, you will write an essay analyzing the historical event you selected, examining its impact on society as well as its impact on you personally.
Project 2 addresses the following course outcomes:
Illustrate the impact of historical thinking on personal and professional experiences
Select appropriate and relevant primary and secondary sources in investigating foundational historic events
Communicate effectively to specific audiences in examining fundamental aspects of human history
Utilize historical evidence in drawing conclusions about the impact of historic events on American society
Apply key approaches to studying history in addressing critical questions related to historical narratives and perspectives
2
Prompt
Your historical analysis essay should answer the following prompt: Analyze the historical event you selected, using your writing plan as the basis for your
analysis. The following critical elements will be assessed in a 4- to 6-page word processing document.
I. Introduction: In this section of your essay, you will introduce your readers to the historical event you selected. Specifically, you should:
A. Provide a brief overview of your historical event. For instance, what background information or context does the reader of your essay need?
B. Based on your research question, develop a thesis statement that states your claim about the historical event you selected. Your thesis

WRITING ADVICEPromptIn 6-8 pages develop an argument.docxtroutmanboris
WRITING ADVICE
Prompt
In 6-8 pages develop an argument about the key
factors determining successful presidential
leadership in the modern era (FDR forward).
Your argument should be deeply rooted in the
scholarly literature on the presidency. Develop
your argument in more detail by exploring two
cases where a president attempted to provide
leadership in some way. The cases that you
select should be narrow (e.g. FDR and the
passage of the Social Security Act rather than
FDR and the New Deal).
Prompt (cont.)
You only have a few short pages to discuss each
case and it is better to be an inch wide and a
mile deep than a mile wide and an inch deep. I
think that the easiest way to do this would be to
choose a policy or action widely viewed as a
historical success and another that is widely
viewed as a historical failure (e.g. Truman’s
Marshall Plan and Nixon’s invasion of Cambodia).
However, you do not need to follow this mold.
You could also compare two successes or two
failures.
Prompt (cont.)
In the development of your mini-case studies, you
should draw heavily from the Green Library’s
large collection of newspapers (available online).
For each case, you should be citing from The New
York Times and other online newspaper databases
from the week surrounding the event. This will help
give your cases much more depth. I also
encourage you to find other supplemental
sources like presidential biographies, journal
articles, academic books, primary documents,
and oral histories about the actual event to bolster
What do you need?
A theory of presidential leadership
developed from the scholarly literature
• Two interesting cases that you’ll analyze in
light of that theory
Developing a theory
Look for books and articles about presidential
leadership
• Look for useful references in the “suggested
readings” section of your textbook
• Where do you start? http://library.fiu.edu
• Search books for “presidential leadership” or other
important key terms that you might be interested in

• Go to “Find > A-Z List > G > Google Scholar” to make
your way to Google Scholar from off campus
What about the cases?
Explore the appendix in Greenstein (233-274)
• Read newspapers from the time
• Produce copies or directly transcribe into a Word
document with the information that you will need for
citations and references
• “Blah, blah, blah... Marshall Plan...” (Greg A. Halpriggs,
“The Marshall Plan,” NY Times, March 27th, 1948, Section
A-11, Paragraph 4). Not an actual citation or reference
(just the info you will eventually need)
• Look for scholarly works on the cases in the
same way that you did for your theory
Organization
Write a strong thesis statement that clearly
elaborates your main argument and organizes
your paper:

Assignment 1 Whos picking up the puffed riceFor this assignm.docxdeanmtaylor1545
Assignment 1: Whos picking up the puffed rice?
For this assignment, visit your local grocery store to observe and record behaviors in the various aisles. Your visit should be long enough to observe several behaviors and situations. Read the assignment thoroughly before your observational visit in order to watch for specific behaviors.
Write a five (5) page paper in which you:
1. Identify the store and the day and time you made your observation.
2. Analyze the behaviors you observed to determine how consumers progressed through the consumer behavior process while in different aisles.
3. Assess how consumers determine value for their various purchases. This can be addressed with at least two (2) specific consumer examples or by combining all the consumers you observed.
4. Pick two specific consumers that seemed to be very different from each other. Contrast how these two (2) consumers progressed through the consumer perception process.
5. Analyze how different manufacturers motivated consumers to pick their specific brands. Articulate thoroughly the behaviors displayed and tactics used by the store or manufacturer to motivate the purchase.
6. Record all your observations in a table placed in an Appendix.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
· Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA.
· Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
For several months now you’ve been analyzing primary sources for your weekly discussion posts and your papers. I’ve described them for you as the building blocks of the historian’s craft. All of our arguments have to be based upon evidence left to us from the people at the time.
But while they are vitally important to our understanding of the past, primary sources can often be desperately flawed. Every primary source document comes filled with all sorts of bias. Authors of diaries, for example, usually tell us events only as they saw them or, worse, as they want us to see them. Diarists usually write with an audience in mind, telling the story as they want to tell it. Likewise, the authors of newspaper articles, private letters, and court depositions all bring the prejudices of their own lives to their documents. Finally, for many periods, places, and people in human history we have remarkably few sources to rely upon. And those sources we do have are skewed to being from the people with the most power and education in the society.
It is the job of the historian take all those issues into consideration and to produce an analysis of the primary source evidence that helps us use it to better understand the past. A book or journal article by a historian, therefore, isn’t a simple statement of facts. It is that his.

For History 105: Dr. Stansbury’s classes (7 pages here)
Due Week 3 and worth 120 points. The formal deadline is on Monday morning at 9am Eastern Time; this is the next day after Week 3 ends. Watch announcements, emails, and postings for exact dates and any holiday notes that sometimes arise.
[NOTE ON ECREE: The university is adopting a tool called ecree for helping and doing writing assignments in many classes. In our History 105 class, we will be using the ecree program only for EXTRA CREDIT as a tool for doing work on your rough draft of the paper. We hope this approach encourages more rough drafting and revision work by students as well as makes students familiar with this useful new tool. For Assignment 1, in the Week 3 unit, you will see the link “EXTRA CREDIT: ROUGH DRAFT….”—that is where you can get up to 5 points of extra credit. Instructions will be posted there in the early days of the summer course. If you try this option, you will be able to use the file developed in ecree as a rough draft; you will then download that draft and edit it further. Then, once your paper is fully polished and finished as you see fit, you will then submit it at the next link in the Week 3 unit, which says “ASSIGNMENT 1: DEALING WITH DIVERSITY….”. ]
BACKGROUND FOR THE PAPER: This is a 5-paragraph paper based on research in designated sources. It is a position paper in which you support a thesis statement by reason and historical examples. After the Civil War, the United States had to recover from war, handle western expansion, and grapple with very new economic forms. However, its greatest issues would revolve around the legacies of slavery and increasing diversity in the decades after the Civil War. In the South, former slaves now had freedom and new opportunities but, despite the Reconstruction period, faced old prejudices and rapidly forming new barriers. Immigrants from Europe and Asia came in large numbers but then faced political and social restrictions. Women continued to seek rights. Yet, on the whole, America became increasingly diverse by the 1920s. Consider developments, policies, and laws in that period from 1865 to the 1920s. Examine the two statements below and drawing from provided sources, present a paper with specific examples and arguments to demonstrate the validity of your position. [Don’t use this background paragraph in your paper]
Topic and Thesis Statement—choose one of the following as your Thesis Statement:
· THESIS STATEMENT 1: Political policies in the period from 1865 to the 1920s generally tried to promote diversity and “the melting pot” despite the strong prejudices of a few.
· THESIS STATEMENT 2: Political policies in the period from 1865 to the 1920s generally tried to hinder or restrict diversity and “the melting pot”, in part because of widespread prejudices.
· Plan to make that thesis statement the last s ...
Introduction Your introduction should include the following· .docxmariuse18nolet
Introduction
Your introduction should include the following:
· Background information on the topic of your essay. This includes introducing key figures or concepts, as well as providing dates and locations to place your topic in an historical context. Do not assume that your reader knows the topic or the sources that you are using. Always fully introduce your sources, historical figures, and topics.
· A thesis statement. A thesis statement is the argument that you will be proving in your paper. For example, do not make general statements such as, "Phillip II and Henry IV had many similarities and differences." A thesis is a very focused argument. A better thesis statement would be, "Henry IV and Phillip II both faced challenges to the stability of their kingdoms that developed from religious conflicts. While Henry IV was primarily concerned with domestic unrest, Phillip II faced these challenges in outlying regions of his kingdom." You can see that one is much more focused and specific in the points that it will prove in your essay. The following link provides some great information and demonstrates how to create a thesis statement:
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/545/01/
1. Body of Paper:
The body of your essay should include the following:
· Historical analysis. Do not simply provide a timeline of events or a list of facts. An historical essays analyzes these events and facts to create a strong argument that proves your thesis.
· The most relevant and important information that you will use to prove your argument. Stay focused on the most important information and try to avoid including random facts that, while interesting, might not connect to, or be relevant to, your argument.
· Historical details and examples. These are the building-blocks of your argument. You should include relevant dates, events, people, and examples to prove your thesis.
· Sources. Your writing should include references to your sources and properly formatted footnotes or in-text citations. Avoid using lengthy quotes to insert historical information the majority of your writing should be your own, not quotes. General historical information can be related in your own words. Reserve direct quotes for examples that prove your point or to briefly relate the ideas of a source. Find a way to transition between your own writing and the quote to fluidly connect the statements.
2. Conclusion
Your conclusion of your essay should do the following:
· Draw together the points that you have raised in the essay.
· Connect your points to a larger revelation about the topic that proves your thesis.
· Avoid using overly general statements or making connections to our current time, unless the essay instructions specifically ask you to make this connection. For example, if you are writing an essay on women regents in Ancient Egypt, you would not end your essay with the statements, “Women have played major political roles throughout time. The position of female regents in .

A separate document in the Resources
section of the classroom is a sample student essay. Please refer to this document to get a
visual representation of what your essay should look like.

4. Footnotes are used for the following purposes:
d. to indicate the exact source of every question used;
d. to acknowledge indebtedness to others for opinions or ideas;
d. to give the authority for a fact that the reader might be inclined to doubt because it is outside his/her ordinary experience, e.g.

• Search books for “presidential leadership” or other
important key terms that you might be interested in
• Sign in from off campus to have access to articles (“Log

• Go to “Find > A-Z List > G > Google Scholar” to make
your way to Google Scholar from off campus
What about the cases?
Explore the appendix in Greenstein (233-274)
• Read newspapers from the time
• Produce copies or directly transcribe into a Word
document with the information that you will need for
citations and references
• “Blah, blah, blah... Marshall Plan...” (Greg A. Halpriggs,
“The Marshall Plan,” NY Times, March 27th, 1948, Section
A-11, Paragraph 4). Not an actual citation or reference

• Look for scholarly works on the cases in the
same way that you did for your theory

Assignment 1: Dealing with Diversity in America from Reconstruction through the 1920s

A Short Paper Assignment allows you, early in the course, to demonstrate your research skills to your instructor and to receive feedback that will benefit you when you write research papers for future courses. With this assignment, you will learn how to do proper research and write a short paper.
You are allowed to choose your own topic, as long as it pertains to the subject of this course. If you have any questions on subject matter, please contact your instructor. This is your opportunity to look a little deeper at a subject that interests you.
This short paper is at least three double-spaced pages of text (Times New Roman, font size 12) and you must consult a minimum of two academically credible sources.
Your bibliography and citations may be in APA, MLA, or Chicago Style format. Students majoring in history must use Chicago Style format.
The short paper needs to be turned in through the assignment section for grading. If you use any of the information from your sources word-for-word, you must cite the source by using endnotes, footnotes, or parenthetical citations. If you read the information and write it in your own words and it is not common knowledge, then you must cite the source because you are paraphrasing someone's information.
The short paper must include a cover page with your name, course number and course title, instructor's name, and date. You must also include a bibliography at the end of your paper. While composing your paper, use proper English. Do not use abbreviations, contractions, passive voice, or first/ second person (I, you, we, our, etc). Before submitting your paper, check your grammar and use spell check. Remember, the way you talk is not the way you write a paper. Please label your paper as follows: lastnamefirstnameHIST102ShortPaper.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Who are some of the key historical figures of the
historical topic's time period and what were their major
impacts?
What were the biggest events of the historical topic's
era of time and how would you explain the significance
of them?
Would this be a historical topic that you would have
liked to experience in person and what is your basis for
1
2. why or why not?

They had the same basic rights as men
did, and you did not see this often in other cultures in
history. They could own property, be in the company of
men, and even divorce and remarry if they chose to do
so. There were several rulers of Egypt who were
women, including Nefertiti and Hatshepsut. A practice
of Pharaohs was that they often chose their spouses
within the royal family, which means that they were
3
often related to one another. If you look back in history,
you will see that Hatshepsut's spouse was actually her
half brother. Cleopatra is the most famous of female
Egyptian rulers. She became ruler as a teen, battled
many assassination attempts, as well as having several
children. She regained her throne with the help of
Julius Cesar. Ancient Egyptian society was advanced
for the time period in which it existed. Not only did they
4. build elaborate tombs and structures, but there are also
depictions of simple things like partaking in board
games. These board games would not be anything like
what we see today, however, board games were popular
among all social classes in Ancient Egyptian society.
