This factsheet provides demographic data about ethnic minorities in the Yorkshire and Humber region of the UK. It shows that: 1) After London, Yorkshire and Humber has the third largest ethnic minority population in the UK, concentrated primarily in West Yorkshire. 2) The largest ethnic minority group is Asian, making up 2.9% of the population. 3) Bradford has a particularly large South Asian population, comprising over 25% of the city's residents.

More than 10% of the UK workforce is from an ethnic minority
background and over 20% of the emerging workforce (children
in primary and secondary school education), are from an ethnic
minority background. In addition to this, 16% of UK-domiciled
students at university in the UK are from an ethnic minority
background. Britain’s current and future talent pool is racially
diverse and progressive employers understand that it makes
good business sense to utilise and grow this pool of talent.

In 2001, 46% of the total Pakistani population in Yorkshire and the
Humber, and 40% of the total Bangladeshi population in Yorkshire and
the Humber resided in Bradford.

compared to only 8% for Yorkshire &

shows. The White population of Bradford
is projected to be in the region of 62%,
compared to 88% in the rest of the region.
The other ethnic minority populations will
however remain small, though higher than
in Yorkshire and Humber.
