 Guggulu kalpaas are one among the popular preparations
which acts as effective in disease as well as binding agents .
 Guggulu types – mahishaksha, mahaneela ,kanaka ,kumuda
,padma
 Naveena - vrishya
purana – apakarshana (s.u.)
 It has tiktha,katu,madhura,kashaya as rasa
 Laghu ,teekshna,snigdha,sukshma guna
 Veerya – ushna ,katu-vipaka
 Charaka , vaghbhata- medohara ,vatahara
 Has essential oil ,gum resin ,steroids as
chemical constituents

 Guggulu has 2 fractions one as insoluble gum fraction
which is toxic & and the other soluble hypolipedemic and
anti-inflamatory properties.
 The hypolipidemic portion is neutral while anti
inflammatory portion is acidic.
 योगराज गुग्गुलु is called as KING of all yogas because it is
indicated in all shrotas .
 It has reference in bhaishajya ratnavali , saharsa yoga ,
sharanghadara samhitha
 It has effect of analgesic ,anti-inflammatory,
Strengthens muscular skeletons, nervous system, it is anti-
spasmodic ,and is muscle relaxant

 Contains prakshepaka as vangha,roupya etc
The veerya avdhi is infinite.
 It is considered as rasayana in vata vyadhi
