Over the past several years, a number of youth leadership and youth development; government and private human
development organizations have expressed a need for the community to come together to share best practices to discuss
the needs, gaps, and challenges faced in the field of Youth Empowerment, and to discover ways to work together.
We believed this assembling of a community of young prospects is a necessary step in discovering, improving, and
innovating ways to advance the ideologies in this area; all with the intention of reaching more youth and increasing their
competencies.
The possibility of convening a youth leadership summit to discuss and assess the field of youth leadership development
and to create a vision for bringing together youngsters with a shared commitment is an initiative of 3WGE as a
responsibility towards youth of Sri Lanka.
INTRODUCTION
Youth leadership can take many forms: Youth Voice, Youth empowerment etc. The Youth
Leadership Summit is aimed to support and develop young leaders who are aspiring
decision makers of civic mandate.
Young leaders can bring in different strengths, and new perspectives for critical decision
making. An appropriate platform will enable youngsters to experience and cultivate their
own appropriate styles of leadership practice.
Objectives of a leadership forum would be to capitalize on youth engagement and
shifting conventional thinking paradigms of its younger generation. Youth are valued and
have the opportunity to be productive and connected citizens who make meaningful
contributions now and throughout their adult lives.
“The
foundation of
every state is
the education
of its youth.”
YOUTH & LEADERSHIP
• Enhancing key leadership competencies of the youth
• Brainstorming new perceptions and ideas of youth leadership space
• Providing a platform to young significant leaders to voice out
• Communicating the importance of empowerment
• Forming a platform for young students to grasp the importance of proper education
• Preparing the youth of Sri Lanka to embrace and overcome challenges they face transforming into an adult
OBJECTIVES
“All citizens should have the opportunity to be active, but all
will not respond.
Those who do respond carry the burden of our free society.”
“I call them the Responsibles.”
– John W. Gardner American Leadership Forum

EVENT OUTLINE
“ Most of us have potentialities that have never been developed simply because
the circumstances of our lives never called them forth. Exploration of the full
range of our own potentialities is not something that we can safely leave to the
chances of life. It is something to be pursued systematically, or at least avidly, to
the end of our days.
“And by potentialities I mean not just skills but the full range of our capacities for
sensing, wondering, learning, understanding, loving, and aspiring.”
~John W. Gardner, Self-
