Coastal features include sea stacks which are tall rock columns near the shore, rock platforms formed by wave action at the base of sea cliffs, and beaches deposited by waves. Other coastal features are bays surrounded by land, lagoons separated from the sea by barriers, tidal inlets connecting rivers and streams to the open ocean, sand dunes formed by wind, sea caves formed by wave erosion, rock arches with openings underneath, and blowholes which are vertical shafts connecting sea caves to the surface.
