PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the project is to divert rail traffic from Alhambra Subdivision to the Los
Angeles Subdivision of the Union Pacific Railroad to eliminate railroad through freight
traffic across Temple Avenue and Pomona Boulevard at-grade railroad crossings. The
diversion tracks were constructed on new alignments through the Cal Poly University in
Pomona. Scope of work included the construction of 3 new railroad bridges (Cal Poly
University Spadra Farm, San Jose Creek and State Street), the widening of 3 existing
railroad bridges (Bridge 28.22, Bridge 29.12 and Bridge 29.38), grading for new track
beds, construction of new underground utilities, retaining walls, pier protection walls,
sound walls, culverts, roads, and the relocation of existing underground utilities (fiber
optics, gas, electrical, sewer and water).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provided as-requested consultation pertaining to geotechnical construction issues
and materials testing and special inspection
Provided quality control and documentation of geotechnical construction materials
including on site soils, import backfill, aggregate base and asphalt concrete
Review of field inspection reports
Budget management and technical oversight of materials testing and special dep-
uty inspection services pertaining to concrete and rebar placement, shotcrete, tie-
back testing and acceptance, pile driving, structural steel welding and non-
destructive testing
