The document discusses several existing youth development indicators from sources like the UN Population Division. It provides data on indicators like youth population size, health metrics like life expectancy at age 15, gender gaps, and probabilities of dying before age 25. It also shares data on gender indicators from Demographic and Health Surveys, including young women's participation in family budgets and decision making about durable goods. Finally, it presents data on HIV/AIDS knowledge and condom use among 15-24 year olds in various countries.
The document summarizes the Philippine Development Plan 2011-2016 which aims to promote inclusive growth in the Philippines. It finds that growth has been low, lagging, and uneven compared to other Asian economies. Poverty and inequality remain high due to factors such as inadequate investment, labor market issues, and insufficient human development. The plan seeks to address these constraints through boosting infrastructure, improving governance, strengthening education and health services, and gaining more from trade.

The document summarizes ICT education and job market trends in New Zealand. It finds that female participation in ICT diplomas and computer science degrees is around 23-28% in New Zealand and rising slightly in the US. ICT job advertisements on Seek were down 8% nationally in August compared to the previous year while Trademe ads were down 9%. The highest paying ICT roles include sales, project management, and architecture. Java, PHP, and C# are the most commonly advertised programming languages.
The document analyzes the determinants of employment decisions among the elderly in Thailand using survey data from 1990-2007. A probit regression model was used to identify factors that influence whether elderly persons remain in the labor force. The analysis found that age, education level, gender, marital status and health significantly impact labor force participation. Living arrangements also have an effect, with those living alone or in multi-generational households more likely to work. The likelihood of employment decreases with pension income, household size and number of dependents.

This document discusses production functions and their properties. It begins by defining a production function as relating the maximum output that can be produced from a given set of inputs. It then discusses short-run and long-run production functions, the properties of average and marginal product, diminishing returns, and how to determine the optimal input mix by equalizing marginal products per dollar spent on each input. It also introduces Cobb-Douglas production functions and the concept of returns to scale.
Operations management is a core function of any organization that transforms inputs into outputs. It involves planning, coordinating, and controlling resources to produce goods and services. The goal is to add value through efficient transformations. Operations can be categorized as manufacturing or service-based. Manufacturing operations produce tangible goods while service operations provide intangible activities and require customer participation. Operations management is one of the three primary business functions along with finance and marketing, and it plays a significant role in an organization's success.
The document discusses the history and evolution of car manufacturing systems. It begins with the invention of the automobile in the 1880s by Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler. It then describes Henry Ford's mass production system using assembly lines in the early 1900s. Finally, it outlines how the Toyota Production System developed as a leaner alternative to mass production, focusing on just-in-time production and continuous flow. Key figures in developing the Toyota system include Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo.
The document summarizes Toyota's production system. The system aims to contribute to industry and the economy through technology transfer, human resource development, and competitive vehicles. It focuses on just-in-time production to reduce inventory costs by producing according to demand. Key concepts include kanban cards to signal production needs, jidoka for quality control, and eliminating waste (muda) to improve efficiency.
Production/operations management (POM) involves planning, organizing, and controlling the production process. As part of management, the key functions of POM are to optimize resource utilization, make decisions about production, and ensure goals are aligned with the overall organization's strategy. The POM manager seeks to effectively plan, organize, control, and model human behavior during the conversion of raw materials into finished goods.

Students, Computers and Learning: Making the Connection (Andreas Schleiche...EduSkills OECD
Are there computers in the classroom? Does it matter? Students, Computers and Learning: Making the Connection examines how students’ access to and use of information and communication technology (ICT) devices has evolved in recent years, and explores how education systems and schools are integrating ICT into students’ learning experiences. Based on results from PISA 2012, the report discusses differences in access to and use of ICT – what are collectively known as the “digital divide” – that are related to students’ socio-economic status, gender, geographic location, and the school a child attends. The report highlights the importance of bolstering students’ ability to navigate through digital texts. It also examines the relationship among computer access in schools, computer use in classrooms, and performance in the PISA assessment. As the report makes clear, all students first need to be equipped with basic literacy and numeracy skills so that they can participate fully in the hyper-connected, digitised societies of the 21st century.
