Intranet managers are for ever looking to get more structure, more governance and more standards introduced into intranet management. The reason for this is of course that most organizations would benefit from having more structure around their intranet management, no doubt about that. However, as to where the ownership of the intranet should reside we lack a decisive answer. But intranets are cross organizational and (ideally) always changing so we should stop asking for someone to take ownership. Instead we have to change the stake that management has in the intranets performance and make sure that the conversations we have about it is always relevant.

The process of designing one of the biggest, European intranets — a project which was realized for an energy company called TAURON. The presentation is more than a typical case study – a complex and interesting story about the UCD process in the context of a huge organisation. What you will learn:
- How to use the UCD process in designing huge systems (eg. intranets)
- How to conduct research to better understand the context of the organisation
- The typical obstacles organizations could meet on their path, and how to avoid them.
- Difficulties in designing for the energy industry
- How to manage these types of projects
Volvo Cars is rethinking its workplace to be more flexible and activity-based. It conducted research and benchmarking to inform a new "Designed Around You@Work" approach. This involves converting 80% of traditional individual workspaces into collaboration areas, providing various space options. Early results show improved employee satisfaction scores after implementing this new workspace model across several sites from 2012-2015. Volvo plans continued worldwide rollout to remain an attractive employer in the future.
