OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVE
To commission and repair machinery as directed by Cryostar management. This will include but
not be limited to cryogenic pumps air expansion turbines, compressors and the installation of new
machinery, as appropriate, on customer sites. To be available for travel (globally or vessel) at
short notice as directed by the site manager or Cryostar France.
MAIN DUTIES
• Rapid response to any equipment breakdown on customer sites to ensure that lost production
is minimized.
• To ensure at all times that work is completed in a safe manner, to high engineering standards,
in compliance with customer standards and procedures and external procedures where
appropriate.
• To ensure that any customer contact is dealt with professionally and promptly in dealing with
queries or incidents.
• Preparing for maintenance and inspection as required by executing physical isolations and
electrical isolations. Responsible for testing and re-starting equipment once maintenance is
completed.
• Resolving problems by rectifying defects and identifying opportunities that will enhance
reliability.
• Inspect and check machinery and related equipment as required. Diagnose faults on plant and
machinery and provide customer feedback.
• To make own travel arrangements including hotel, flight and hire car bookings.
• To make reports, time sheets, mechanical and site checklist signed by the customer before
leaving the site.
STATISTICS
• The Service Technician is responsible for commissioning, servicing and maintenance of a
diverse range of product both in-house and on customer sites.
3. ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF WORK
• Responsible to the operations manager for all aspects of work on site, but often works under
own initiative and direction.
• Routine work is assigned by the operations manager. The Service Technician often identifies
work activities and completes service without direct supervision. After completion of work
quality is self-certified.
• The incumbent will be self-motivating and is expected to work with a minimum of
supervision when undertaking off-site repairs.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY
• The Service Technician will often, without referring to a higher authority, decide the extent
and method of any repairs that are necessary and will utilize replacement components as he
sees fit. He is responsible for the completion of work to agreed and approved standards in
compliance with Cryostar procedures. All decisions must be submitted to Cryostar for
approval before to be applied on site.
REPORT PREPARATION
• The Service Technician is required to maintain the Cryostar Product on CRM database. This
is accessible by all Cryostar staff and used to identify specific unit issues.
• Verbal and written job reports are to be provided each week to customers and to Cryostar.
• Where a more in-depth report is required for specific jobs, the Service Technician is
responsible for production and delivery.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS
• Often required to attend meetings on customer sites, contact can range from foremen to
branch manager level.
Currently working in Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering
