Report writing requires more than effective writing skill.
You must
Analyze your audience – so you know what they expect from your report and tailor your report style, tone, order / arrangement of idea, etc. accordingly
Use coherence plan -- so your report appears to be a coherent unit with a clear message, instead of a random collection of sentences and paragraphs
Explain results in meaningful context -- we don’t “just present the facts” we must first make sense of or understand the meaning of the findings ourselves, then tell our readers what the numbers or figures mean!

In the course project, you will analyse the corporate strategy of multibusiness organizations. Every
week, you will analyze particular elements of a corporate strategy, culminating in an analysis of the
strategy by the end of the course. This is where you put together all the work you have researched and
completed in your assignments and the organizations mentioned in the course. Pay close attention to
your final assignment and how you will wrap it up.
The three overarching questions for this project are:
What is the business logic and rationale behind the corporate strategy?
How well do organizational decisions about formulating and implementing corporate strategy
fit with that logic and rationale?
What recommendations would you make to the top management with respect to the decisions
made in executing the corporate strategy?
Be mindful of these questions as you complete each week’s project tasks. Having an idea of how you
will answer these questions will make writing your final integrated analysis much easier.
Tips for Writing
Both style and substance are important in written communication. Below are a few tips on style and
substance. View these tips as examples of writing found in a high-quality, comprehensive report that
still permits a great deal of freedom in terms of style and scope.
Your report will be complex and your conclusions derived from many hours of research, thinking, and
writing. Your objective is to communicate your learning to the reader concisely. Imagine that you're
writing for a group of potential investors interested in learning about your chosen organization. You
want to be complete, accurate, and objective in your observations and analysis. All your conclusions
should be clear and well supported.
Inability to write effective business reports is one of the biggest weaknesses of managers. A well-
organized report helps simplify complex subjects and shows clear thinking. To do well in this area, just
recall the basics of good writing that you learned in high school and college.
As your paper will cover many different subjects, you should use section and subsection headings to
mark transitions from one topic to another. Transitions between paragraphs make for easy reading.
Each paragraph should begin with a clear topic sentence and should stick to that topic. The complexity
of your subject calls for simple sentence structure and the avoidance of jargon and unusual phrasing.
Tables, charts, and figures that illustrate especially complex points or support conclusions may be
included in an appendix at the end of the report. Do not use an exhibit unless you refer to it in your
paper. The source of the information in an exhibit must be shown in the exhibit.

Students will login to FierceEMR and FierceHealthIT using the link provided in the reading assignment module for Week 5 and select a “current/popular” topic of the week that may impact their practice. Students, in a professionally developed paper, will discuss the rationale for choosing the topic, how it will impact practice in a positive or negative manner, citing pros and cons. Include a discussion of how informatics skills and knowledge were used in the process relevance to developing the assignment. In the conclusion, provide recommendations for the future. An appropriately chosen topic and its well treatment should result in a paper about 3,500-4,500 words. Note that it is the quality of the contents that counts, not the length. In the course project, you will analyse the corporate strategy of multibusiness organizations. Every
week, you will analyze particular elements of a corporate strategy, culminating in an analysis of the
strategy by the end of the course. This is where you put together all the work you have researched and
completed in your assignments and the organizations mentioned in the course. Pay close attention to
your final assignment and how you will wrap it up.
The three overarching questions for this project are:
What is the business logic and rationale behind the corporate strategy?
How well do organizational decisions about formulating and implementing corporate strategy
fit with that logic and rationale?
What recommendations would you make to the top management with respect to the decisions
made in executing the corporate strategy?
Be mindful of these questions as you complete each week’s project tasks. Having an idea of how you
will answer these questions will make writing your final integrated analysis much easier.
Tips for Writing
Both style and substance are important in written communication. Below are a few tips on style and
substance. View these tips as examples of writing found in a high-quality, comprehensive report that
still permits a great deal of freedom in terms of style and scope.
Your report will be complex and your conclusions derived from many hours of research, thinking, and
writing. Your objective is to communicate your learning to the reader concisely. Imagine that you're
writing for a group of potential investors interested in learning about your chosen organization. You
want to be complete, accurate, and objective in your observations and analysis. All your conclusions
should be clear and well supported.
Inability to write effective business reports is one of the biggest weaknesses of managers. A well-
organized report helps simplify complex subjects and shows clear thinking. To do well in this area, just
recall the basics of good writing that you learned in high school and college.
As your paper will cover many different subjects, you should use section and subsection headings to
mark transitions from one topic to another. Transitions between paragraphs make for easy reading.
Each paragraph should begin with a clear topic sentence and should stick to that topic. The complexity
of your subject calls for simple sentence structure and the avoidance of jargon and unusual phrasing.
Tables, charts, and figures that illustrate especially complex points or support conclusions may be
included in an appendix at the end of the report. Do not use an exhibit unless you refer to it in your
paper. The source of the information in an exhibit must be shown in the exhibit.

The report on a city is an analytical report. You will be drawing a conclusion about whether a specific city would be a good location for someone in your career field, based on the specific criteria noted in the report.
One goal of the report is for you to practice coming up with reasonable criteria and applying them in order to draw a well-defended conclusion. Another goal is to practice research skills, including finding, using, and documenting secondary research.
Context
You have received an internship in department of the college where you will receive your degree. You've learned that many students in your field receive job offers that require them to move to another state. As a service, the department wants to prepare reports that give an overview of some of the more popular cities, to help students in their decision of whether to accept the offers when they graduate. You have been assigned a specific city to investigate.
Requirements
I will assign your city, and your report must be on this city. (I am going to assign different cities to each student in class.)
The report must use at least four sources for the information. At least three of these must be secondary sources. If you know someone who has lived in your assigned city, you may interview that person as the fourth source. Give credit to all sources used.
The report must contain at least five criteria that a person would reasonably use in determining whether that city is a good choice for them. It may, of course, contain more than this. We will discuss possible criteria in the discussion this week, but you may use criteria that are not mentioned in the discussion.

Develop an appreciation for informatics, basic skills and knowledge required in practice settings. Students will select a “hot” or popular topic of particular interest to their practice to discuss. The topic will be selected from the website using the link provided in the course Assignments section.
Due Date: Sunday 11:59 p.m. MT at the end of Week 5.

Requirements
Students will login to FierceEMR and FierceHealthIT using the link provided in the reading assignment module for Week 5 and select a “current/popular” topic of the week that may impact their practice. Students, in a professionally developed paper, will discuss the rationale for choosing the topic, how it will impact practice in a positive or negative manner, citing pros and cons. Include a discussion of how informatics skills and knowledge were used in the process relevance to developing the assignment. In the conclusion, provide recommendations for the future. Submit completed FierceHealthIT Topic paper for Wk. 5 to dropbox by end of Week 5. Preparing the paper
1. The FierceEMR and FierceHealthIT Current/Popular Topic of the Week assignment must be a professional, scholarly prepared paper. See the guidelines for writing a professional, scholarly paper in the Course Resources. The professional paper will have an introduction, body of paper to explain what you are doing, summary/conclusion, and at least three scholarly references.
2. Required texts may be used as references, but a minimum of three sources must be from outside of course readings.
3. All aspects of the paper must be in APA format as expressed in the 6th edition.
4. The paper (excluding the title page, introduction and reference page) is 4-6 pages in length.

Specific Formatting Requirements
An appropriately chosen topic and its well treatment should result in a paper about 3,500-4,500 words. Note that it is the quality of the contents that counts, not the length. If your paper is slightly smaller or larger, it will be OK provided that its contents are acceptable. Please do not take advantage of line spacing, font size and margin size options to force a perceived smaller or larger paper. It will not work!
Organization:
Organize your paper in terms of sequentially numbered sections, subsections, and subsubsections, each with an appropriate title. The paper organization may be as follows:

The purpose of this question is to know how many of the participants drink coffee. The answers show that 64% of the participants drink coffee and 25% does not. The rest of 11% of them do not drink coffee usually.

The purpose of this question is to know how much coffee shops or venders crowded and busy in Yanbu. 79% of the participants said that coffee shops are always busy and crowded, other 14% agreed but in sometimes only. The rest of 7% does not see that.

- 2. • What’s an overview? An overview is a summary of the main points or general trends of a diagram or graph. • What is the process of selecting key information to form the basis of an overview? See the process in the next slide

Activity: look at the overview in step 3 and answer questions 1-4 below for more understanding. 1 Which words / phrases show that these are general trends (instead of details)? 2 Can you think of any other words / phrases like this? 3 Does the candidate give any specific percentages in the overview? 4 Which words / phrases does the candidate use to refer to ‘percentage of the population who travelled abroad’? 2) write notes about the key points the graph is showing: 1) look at the information in the vertical and horizontal axes and different elements of the diagram/chart to get the main idea. 3) transform your notes into an overview as in the example below.
