1. Test 1
Test 1- Writing. Question 1 of 2 (reading(advantages) and listening(disadvantages) of the rewarded
work)
First of all, I've noticed that the speaker is against the rewarded work. He thinks that it´s not a good
idea because of several points. Mainly he thinks that a reward can not be always percieved as a
recompense for his work by the worker. That is: if someone thinks that he is working hard but his work
is not rewarded, can start thinking that maybe his work is not enough good for his supervisors and even
that he is being observed or going to be punished. That's one reason why rewarded work can be
contraproductive. This point contradicts what is said in the text in the second paragraph. Here we can
assume that the writer thinks that rewarded work is good because it can increase the employee
attitudes, motivation...But that's a contradicted point between the two points of view.
Furthermore, employees might not only develop that negative attitude towards rewarded work but also
other negatives. For instance, maybe the given reward is not the expected. That can be a problem
because the employee can think that his work and him is not appreciated enough. This point is in
contradiction with all the text, not with a especific part of this but with the whole text.
Test 1- Writing. Question 2 of 2
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Chilhood is the happiest time of a person’s life.
First of all, I want to say that this is an interesting question tough it might seem the opposite. I think
that most of people that I know enjoyed their childhood. But if you asked to those persons who have
suffered in their childhood because they haven't had food enough or maybe to those who have lost their
parents because of a civil war like in many contries of Africa, maybe you won't hear the same answer.
In fact, if you really asked them, perhaps they would answer you that no moment in their life was so
good as any in yours. That's sad but true.
Besides those who have suffered a lot in their childhood or in their adult life I agree with the topic
stated. I remember that when I was a child (many adults are still a child, you can infered this from their
behaviour) things were amazing for me, even those that now I consider as usual an unimportant. For
example I enjoyed trucks a lot and when I saw one I got very excited. I also remember that one of the
thinks that I liked the most was playing with my friends in the street. We played to many games: hide
and seek, soccer, basketball...I enjoyed it a lot I didn't want the days to finish because I wanted to spend
all the time with my friends. Unfortunately, when you grow and you become an adult you aren't so
lucky. You realise that you have responsabilities and you must find a work if you want to support your
family.
That's an important point: the family. It changes your way of life. It increases your responsabilities and
more when you have a son or a daughter. I think that's one of the most important moments in a person's
life. I'm not saying it's a bad moment, not at all. It's a beautiful moment (at least it would be for me).
All these additional elements of the adult life with regard to child life make diferent each age. These
deferences are necesary and due to them an adult misses his or her childhood.
2. Test 3
Test 3- Writing. Question 1 of 2 (reading and listening about the asthma)
First of all, in the writting section we can read some of the symptons experienced by those who
suffered asthma. The writer exposes his point of view based, I think, in those principles embraced
traditionally between the medical comunity. Those principles were assumed to be right but nowadays,
recent studies have found contradictive conclussions.
At this point, wich is discussed in the listening passage, the speaker thinks that some evidences have
been found (maybe due to the develop or certain studies or research projects) and these evidences don't
agree with the main points exposed in the lecture and that had been assumed or suposed to be true.
There are two terms where the speaking and reading passages disagree. On one hand, from de speaking
passage we can inferred that it was belief that between two episodes of asthma attack the bronchioles
recupered their height and they became narrow only just when the attack happened. However, the
speaker argue that this narrowing keeps even between attacks. On the other hand, the speaker mentions
a term called "remodelling" (I think). This term is introduced to explain the narrowing is not a
conclusion of the illness but a consequence.
Test 3- Writing. Question 2 of 2
The widespread use of internet has given people information on a level never experienced before. How
does this increase in the aviability of information influence life in today’s world?
This is a interesting question because I think that Internet has changed the way of life of many people.
Particullary, it has changed the way of studying and working of lot of persons. For example, when I
was at the High School, Internet wasn't spreaded in my country. Nobody used it for nothing and when
we had to look for information to make an essay we just looked for books at the library. Obviosly,
sometimes we didn't find what we we're seeking and eventualy we gave up looking for that book and
started to try to find other.
However, at the begining of my degree, internet was more spreaded in my country so I started to used
it. Since the begining I thought that it was great because it made my study easier. I could find all the
books, articles, examples, explanations...whatever I wanted I could find it in Internet. So I think it's an
important tool (maybe the most important) to get information for students.
Years later, when I started working as a industrial engineer I continued keeping in contact with internet.
Since that moment, I have been using this tool every day in my work. I'm working in a computer aided
analisys of structures firm so we must look for information related to this field. The best way to do this
is seeking the needed information in articles of prestigious scientist journals. Of course, through
Internet.
In addition to these advantages, through Internet you can also communicate with your friends by
sending emails. For example, if I want to meet with a group of friends I can send them an email instead
of phoning each one. This is an easy way to communicate and it has become very popular in the whole
world.
3. In conclussion, Internet is very useful for me and for millions of persons who have to work and study
and it has become a powerful tool of information and communication.
