“Writing is not a pre-planned recitation of
what you know; writing is thinking.”

It helps you think more clearly, which in turn helps you learn more
effectively.
“The two most engaging powers of an
author are to make new things familiar and
familiar things new.”
- Dr. Samuel Johnson
It helps you form new understandings or make new connections.
OBJECTIVE
- to express oneself
- to provide information
- to persuade or to create a literary work.
In college, we mostly rely on two purposes for
composition style writing , and those are to
inform or to persuade the audience.
1. Expressive Writing
- Used to express our opinions
- Email, Facebook, Twitter, blogs
or other social networking sites
Its main purpose is to
make connections to other
and to contribute to
human thought and culture
and to establish and
deepen human contact.
1. Persuasive Writing
- More serious form of writing on
a debatable topic
- Essay, Research papers,
presentations
The writer’s goal is to
change the minds of the
readers or at least to get
the readers to question
their position on a debate
and consider the writer’s
point of view.
1. Informative Writing
- Used to educate or explain
something to the audience
- Essay, Research papers,
presentations
This kind of writing is
clear, accurate, organized,
thorough and above all
fair.
1. Literary Work
- A form of creative writing as in
fiction or nonfiction
- Novels, Plays, poems
The main purpose of this
writing is more than to
entertain than to inform.
Thank You 
