Fourteen Things Bloggers and Broadcasters can Learn from Each OtherMatt Baume
The document discusses things that bloggers and broadcasters can learn from each other to improve their work. For broadcasters, bloggers demonstrate the value of being personal, having opinions, marketing stories, correcting transparently, participating in comments, and linking to other sources. For bloggers, broadcasters exemplify owning exclusive stories, calling sources, documenting work, and having a larger project structure. Ultimately, both can improve by prioritizing speed, exclusives, transparency, and building a dedicated audience.

The greatest thing in the world is to have a student and family fully involved and connected before they arrive on campus. This workshop will build on much of your pre-matriculation outreach (from the admission process up to orientation). We will look at ways you can employ social media to make your relationship building even stronger.
We'll examine how you can build tighter bonds among incoming students so that by the time they arrive on campus, everyone is "plugged" into the community.

Participating Isnt Leading: Facebook, Twitter, and the Rise of TribesMichael Vaughn
This document discusses the impacts and consequences of social media and constant connectivity. It notes that social media has created the fifth major media revolution by enabling both groups and conversations at the same time. However, the constant connectivity created by social media also has unintended consequences. It has blurred the line between public and private as the camera is always on, and past actions or statements can now have unforeseen impacts on things like jobs and reputations. It has also created a culture of constant availability that can be distracting and prevent true disconnecting from technology.
The document discusses the evolution of the web and learning in the participation age. It outlines the progression from Web 1.0, which consisted mainly of static HTML pages and hyperlinks, to Web 2.0's user-generated content on platforms like Flickr, YouTube, and Wikipedia. Web 3.0 is proposed to involve linking documents and data through semantic technologies. The document also notes how open online learning through platforms like iTunes U and MIT's OpenCourseWare represent learning in the participation age, where people are more engaged through reading and writing online.
This is the final presentation I did in Madrid in April 2010. It's about doing.
Basically it contains an argument against distilling rich conversations down into simple, light messages; that you can bring people into the richer story simply by getting them to do one, simple thing.
The document provides information about using Facebook pages for businesses. It discusses why businesses should create a Facebook page rather than a personal profile, how to give people a reason to like the page, and how to get people to engage with the page initially. It then goes into details about the anatomy of a Facebook page and how to create, secure a URL for, edit, and promote a business page on Facebook.
The document discusses how to use WordPress to integrate social media into a website. It recommends setting up the website as the central hub and reposting website content out to social media networks to drive traffic back. This allows for automated sharing of all new website content and consolidates updates while tracking results. Tools like TwitterFeed, Dlvr.it and plugins can help automate social sharing to save time. Mobile compatibility is also important for social integration.
What all that beta talk means for brandsAndy Whitlock
This is the second of four presentations I gave in Madrid in April 2010.
I was asked specifically to talk about "beta ideas". With that starting point, I decided to recap on where the language came from but to quickly move to how organisations need to think about releasing 'ideas' into an environment that is so unpredictable.
I talk about evolution and Andromedans. Apologies if any of it doesn't make total sense without my verbal narrative.
This document discusses how social media can be leveraged for a dealership or organization. It outlines opportunities for social media use, including managing online reputation, customer service, public relations, building brand communities, inbound marketing, and becoming a thought leader. Specific tactics are proposed, such as listening tools, direct customer service, guest posting, promotions, and personal branding of employees. Measurement of social media efforts is also addressed.

Webinar: Designing a schema for a Data WarehouseFederico Razzoli
Are you new to data warehouses (DWH)? Do you need to check whether your data warehouse follows the best practices for a good design? In both cases, this webinar is for you.
A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.
We will discuss these topics:
- How to gather information about a business;
- Understanding dictionaries and how to identify business entities;
- Dimensions and facts;
- Setting a table granularity;
- Types of facts;
- Types of dimensions;
- Snowflakes and how to avoid them;
- Expanding existing dimensions and facts.
