This document discusses invasive Asian carp species in the Great Lakes region. It notes the population overgrowth of silver carp and bighead carp between 1997 and 2006, and their threat to native fish species through competition for food and habitat. The document also outlines some efforts to control Asian carp populations, including laws and public involvement campaigns. Overall, the document provides an overview of the Asian carp issue, the risks they pose to the Great Lakes ecosystem, and ongoing response efforts.

This research report analyzes the decline of Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM) following the launch of the iPhone in 2007. It discusses how RIM became complacent in its early success and failed to innovate, while competitors like Apple and Google surpassed it with continuous improvements and a focus on customer experience. Internal problems at RIM like bureaucracy and lack of communication also hindered its ability to pivot strategies in response to market changes. By 2012, RIM had lost most of its smartphone market share and many executives and clients.
BlackBerry was founded in 1984 and released its first smartphone device in 1999. It gained popularity for its secure email services but has struggled recently against competitors like Android and Apple. It launched a new BlackBerry 10 operating system and devices in 2013 but sales have continued to decline, with questions around its ability to survive as an independent company. Key strengths included security and focus on business users but weaknesses included inability to market the brand, dependence on corporate contracts, and poor presence in tablets.
RIM faced several intellectual property challenges including patent infringement lawsuits from NTP, Motorola, Nokia, and Hunter Point Ventures regarding technologies related to wireless email, mobile devices, and music playlists. RIM settled the NTP lawsuit in 2006 for $612.5 million. These lawsuits and increased competition from Apple and Android hurt RIM's business revenue. However, RIM's Blackberry was once highly innovative as the premier smartphone providing secure email access and integration with corporate systems. RIM must continue innovating new blockbuster products and leverage its intellectual property portfolio to regain market share.

The document describes the Emilia-Romagna High Technology Network in Italy. It discusses the regional research system, which includes 5 universities across 11 sites with over 150,000 students and 6,000 researchers. It then summarizes the evolution of the Network over three steps from 2000 to the present/future. Finally, it provides details about two tech poles in Modena and Reggio Emilia that bring together university, industry and government collaborations across various technology platforms.
The nanochemistry group at ISOF works on the production of graphene by chemical exfoliation, its chemical functionalization through covalent or supramolecular interactions, and its characterization at the nanometric scale. They produce graphene oxide which can be produced in large scale and is highly soluble in water and some organic solvents. The group also works on controlling the size of graphene oxide sheets from 1 um to 100 um and depositing them uniformly on substrates over large areas.
This document discusses design management and how design can be used as a strategic tool for enterprises. It provides an overview of how design can play a role in innovation, business strategy, and corporate reputation. Additionally, it outlines some approaches and tools that can be used to measure design awareness in companies and help establish design as a key part of a company's culture. These include things like workshops, surveys, and educational activities to build design leadership skills.

13. Double click patent
18:30 03 June 2004 by Celeste Biever
Microsoft has successfully patented using short,
long or double clicks to launch different applications
on "limited resource computing devices" -
presumably PDAs and mobile phones. The US
patent was granted on 27 April.
Now any US company using a variety of clicks to
launch different software functions from the same
button will have to change their product, pay
licensing fees to Microsoft or give Microsoft access
to its intellectual property in return.
British company Symbian, which makes operating
systems for mobile phones that employ double
clicks and has offices in the US could be affected,
as could PalmOne in California, which supplies
PDA software.
